R.I.P. David Flyboy Emge 😢😢😢 Dawn of the Dead rulez forever 💯👀🔨 greetings from Hamburg Germany 🤘👍
I can't go there very often anymore. It's too depressing. When I remember Monroeville Mall in the 80s and 90s, it was always jamming. These poor malls have had so many of their tenants merge into larger companies and then go bankrupt, and Monroeville has so much space to fill. There are so many stores stores that look kind of fly by night now that take up a lot of large store space. The only thing I like about the mall is the Macy's still has the overall feel of when it was a Horne's store. It would be so nice to go back in time and shop at the 1989 version of the Mall. I miss the smell of the cologne department at Kauffmann's and the Godiva candy counter by the escalator
Great video. I like the timing of the JCPenney sign lighting up during the intro.
I haven't been here in close to 20 years, yet spent a lot of time here in the 80s, both before and after the skating rink was there. But the mall seems far from dead to me. In the times of COVID, it actually seems pretty good. Century III on the other hand is a goner.
Yeah, Century III's long closed (and condemned). Just waiting to be torn down at this point.
I went to Monroeville last weekend, they've rebounded nicely from 2020 - new stores and recreational-type places have opened (like a pool hall and axe throwing). Still fairly vacant in spots (especially the lower level), but they seem to be trying.
That’s really a gigantic place!! Wow!! Great video John!!!
Thankyou Julie! It was the largest mall in America in the 1960s!
This mall has been having lots of problems with crime in recent years, mostly shootings happening outside or inside the mall, minors are not even allowed to shop there alone with friends anymore since a shooting happened.
Not lots. Just two shootings.
Great video John
Great vid bro awesome commentary as always and just overall great job!
Thank you bro!💯
I was at the original DAWN OF THE DEAD filming. Oh wow has that placed changed. My goodness.
Is this the mall from the remake of Dawn of the dead?
No it the original
I might get a job here, good video to get to know the place
I do like the different stores tho.
Looking forward to this!
Awesome video man. Thank you for showing us around. Sadly I think the upgrades to this mall have been downgrades :( it looks like they have covered up all the skylights? And removing all the plants, trees and water features from the centre strip is so depressing to see. And if that wasn’t enough they got rid of the fountain at the elevator. Malls are become empty bland boxes and they wonder why people stop going. They rip out every bit of character they once had :( still a few things reminiscent of dawn of the dead days though which is nice to see :)
I agree , they basically ripped the charm out of it. I was sad when I first saw it in 2017
