Ive been in this mall back in 96, i was so happy to be where my fav movie was filmed. Awesome day
2003, back in 2000 the mall was still original look with the old lighting fixtures and stuff and the handrails. I wish the mall was left alone though
Although to you it is special because of the movie, times change and so do tastes and design. If the mall was still exactly the same today as it was in 1978, could you imagine what it would look like? The same could be said about a person's house, could you imagine not doing any upgrades or changes in furniture or general look for 40 years? People say all this about Friday the 13th locations as well, times change and so do people and technology. The world would be pretty shitty if things never changed.
I imagine they considered the legacy of the classic Dawn Of The Dead film (probably not !!). Same with the mall used in Logan's Run. Still, it does look much the same as it was back then and if it had been a set, that would have been long gone. Quite often I've imagined my hometown shopping centre if it could have been used for the set of such an iconic film, though that has changed a lot since the 70s
Can't beat going to something like that, so iconic. That would be high on my list if I was anywhere near Monroeville. Loved this recording - though reading the other comments, sounds like it has had a radical refit
Damn I wish I was there!!! They even go into the boiler room.
R.I.P. Clayton Hill.
Ive seen DOTD prolly 100X over the years now... it hooks you in! lol
Die hard fans of Dawn of the Dead know the lines of the movie and the scene sequence better than the people who acted in the movie :) Great post.. Thanks for sharing..
Jack Chesnut yes & that's a fact I am From Pakistan virtually know every line and scene of the movie
Wake up sucker, we're thieves and we're bad guys that's exactly what we are...we gotta find our own way...
You're not just playing with your life, you're playing with mine.
Raider looting TV 📺 Second raider " What the hell are you even gonna watch on that thing man" Raider smashes TV with sledgehammer 😅
I guess it is a bit much for an actor to remember every single position and angle and store from a film recorded back in the 70s, unless he sits watching it regularly (as many fans probably do), this did look a fun tour to be on though ! Dawn Of The Dead, just one of the best and one of the easiest to put into the DVD / Blu Ray player
I went in 2014 and its nothing like the movie now, very little is left was bummed but still was amazing to be there.
same, i wish i could have attended this one. The bridges and koi ponds are gone now, JC Penny's too
I caught a Matlock rerun recently where Ken Foree plays a disgraced boxer who becomes one of Andy Griffith's clients...
Greg such a fanboy here. Awesome video
wow I saw the movie when I was 8 years old. my folks took us to the drive in in 1978 or 79. my sister was 1 and my brother was 6 years old. I remember the movie ticket guy telling my dad not to take us in. I remember droping juicey fruits down my moms back because I was in shock because of the gore. My mom would not take the trash out for weeks because she thought the dawn of the dead guys were going to get her, lol
I will be there Saturday. There's a zombie walk in downtown PGH.
I live in Maryland, I just might come to this place.
WOW, thank you so much for this! =)
Sadly JCPenney is now closed here now relocated
the old store was demolished, now a movie theater.
I would be there every day.
🇮🇹ARRIVO IN RITARDO! MA BELLISSIMO DOCUMENTO SUL FILM KEN FOREE GRANDE INTRATTENITORE! COMPLIMENTI E GRAZIE DI AVERLO CARICATO!👍👍👍
I found this video plus a tour of the small airport where they gased up the helicopter at a flea market in North Carolina for 5 bucks. Definitely a great find for those who thought the video included on the ultimate edtition DVD was too short and because the security is so tight at the Monroeville Mall. I am going soon.
I'm late but could you upload the tour of the airport? Would love to see that footage.
Awesome
cool video!!!
God! I would fight through an army of zombies to attend this tour ;)
DOTD is my favorite zombie movie.
I live in Penn Hills. At least 10 mins away from this mall. ive been going here every weekend. Its not going to close for a while so if you wanna come shop go ahead. and the mall cops dont care who you are and what you do.
The horror version of Disneyland, I need to visit there at least once. Bonus if it's a tour by Ken or Scott.
I love that movie.
I NEED to visit this mall at least once before I die!
Remember: this mall is so important to people's lives they continue to go there AFTER they die!
Or after...LOL
@@l.salisbury1253 ha, yes, if I was a zombie ... that would be my go to shopping mall.
Suncoast video, used to love that store and National Record Mart. :(
shit men this is awesome KEN RULES!!!!
How long ago was this video taken because it seems like back in 2000 or something like that?
I live near Monoreville and that Suncoast and that entrance is no longer there anymore.
Love the retroness of those camcorders!
im assuming greg is behind the camera? cause i havent seen him at ll...also this is the first and only footage ive seen of original castmates and walkers/set people comming back to the mall this is amazing thanks for uploading
Yep that’s his voice.
Visiting this mall is on my bucket list!

How about the piercing pagoda that is not there. Is the exchard drug store the arcade and how about the Gun Shop that's gone to or the giant ice skating rink?????
The gun store scene was filmed in a different location.
I dream to see this place
Ken reminds me of a Samuel Jackson almost. That booming voice, just great!
Love escalator guy
they are totally different dear
lol I just went shopping here yesterday!
Nope its still open and awesome :)
thats cool
03:59 -- It is forbidden to go there?
This is the original Epic film perfect in Monroeville mall, whats sad is the remake was horrible, this is the true mall horror film
I am proud to call this pieace of history i live litterly 20 mins away
Pre-smartphone era, guessing mid to late 90's
sapher2020
yeah.. JC Peney in this video was still in business there.. nowadays no more JC Peney at monroeville mall
I remember going there in the early/mid 80s before the internet made it easier to find. It was something I had to find after seeing the movie in theaters just a few years before. The one memory I'll never forget when I saw Dawn in a theater was a kid about 10 or 11 laughing during the gory parts. I often wonder what kind of a person he grew up to be.
02:20 Eckerd Pharmacy in 2010. 06:50 Waldenbooks in 2010. Amazing.
@ObVReboot This mall isnt gunna close i live 10 mins away i go evryweekend.
2:55 Gadzook's! Clearview Mall in Butler had a Gadzook's. I think Monroeville Mall is on the rebound. Same with Clearview.
DID THEY CLOSE THE MALL OH MY GOD I HOPE THEY DIDNT
BearPaw ThunderKing they’ve did
No
That's weird I never posted this comment or watched this video. Hmm it's funny how it's all caps
What year is this??
@ManlnCognito not that I know of, this mall seems to be in good condition, unlike century III mall also in the Pittsburgh area, is 40% vacant.
Sad how badly that comment aged.... to 100% vacant.
How do some men, usually African American seem to age in reverse. Ken Foree looks like a younger man than he is . Lionel Ritchie is also like this.
Genes, exercise, diet - all 3 make a good combination... I think I'd better take my own advice. :)
He does tours in the mall for tourists? That's kinda sad...
It's not sad he is loved and respected person he had a part in the 2004 film as the preacher on tv before the networks went off air.
I doubt if that is full time job though, is it any different from some of the TV stars turning up at various comic cons and chatting about their time on a show from 40 or so years ago. At least it looked a great laugh and opportunity for fans of a great film to meet him and hear some of the tales in the place it happened (mostly)
