The problem with making the “Dwight” the receptionist as opposed to the “Pam” is that now, the dynamic becomes the salesman bullying the receptionist instead of the slacker salesman pranking the hardworking but eccentric salesman. It almost feels like punching down instead of an equal push and pull.
At least now the "Dwight" character can menstruate. Which means she doesn't have to rely on idiotic calendars anymore. She can just count the says since her last cycle. Plus she can be more in tune with the moon and the tides. 😉
My biggest problem is how unnatural the acting feels. The US Office is good because they genuinely all seem like a bunch of losers working a dead end job.
Both the UK and the US version had the office location set outside of the big city. In some seldom heard of town.. Not sure why they choose Sydney either.
It's set in Rydelmere, not the Sydney CBD. As someone who lives in the Parramatta area I think it makes sense, plus it gave me a thrill to see some recognisable landmarks.
I suggest that all fans of *The Office* in Australia and the US visit the home of *The Office*, Slough in Berkshire. Book, at a minimum, three or four nights in this the total gem of the Home Counties. You will never want to leave. 😮.🫤
Feels like they'll find their footing with the next season. That's what happened to the US Office as well. It originally tried too hard to imitate the UK version but finally found it's voice during season 2!
Great video, love this style where you explain what happened in each episode instead of just breaking it down, I really appreciate it :) Looking forward to seeing more of your channel!

There are 14 versions of The Office (UK, US, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Finland, India, Czech Republic, Sweden, Israel, Chile, Canada, France, and Germany), and all of them have their own version of a Michael, a Dwight, a Jim, and a Pam. I agree that it would be nice to see some more diversity. We really don’t need so many shows with the same characters.

I think the first season was just as good as the first season of the US - I would be curious to see what future seasons will be like. I do think there are Aussie shows that hit that awkward workplace humour just as well as (if not better than) The Office - Utopia (also called Dreamland in some countries) is the office but in Government, and Fisk is The Office in a small suburban Law Firm. Might actually give it a go. There are some good lines in here and the plots actually look original and localised. The first season of the US office was so bad that people forget it exists, and the show as a whole turned out excellent. So i really hope they get a second season to see what they can do. I dont think the backlash against it would have been so bad if it was a male boss, either. Everyone is on heightened alert about female characters because of an influx of crap DEI-focused writing in our media. But this show doesn't seem to be focused on shoving morals down our throat. It just happens to have a female MC. Which is how it should be. So I think we should give this one a chance.
It sounds like the AUS Office had the same issue with US office with the first season. Trying too hard to “copy” their predecessor. 1st season of US was trying to be too much like the British until the second season where it found its roots to be different If the AUS version does get a second season, hopefully they branch out and try to be their own thing
The reason this is getting made is simply that its cost effective. Instead of buying the rights to the American office which would cost millions, you simply buy the rights to the British one which will naturally be much cheaper. You can use the name "the office" and use the four main characters (plus Lee/Roy and Keith/Kevin). You get all the brand recognition at the fraction of the cost.
As a diehard Office (US) fan, I really wanna watch it and check it out for myself because it actually really does look pretty funny but apparently it's available to stream literally everywhere *EXCEPT* the US😭
It just seems the wrong time and place. The financial crisis and small city meant the staff in US office had no choice but to put up with Michael’s shit. Now they’re in the population centre of the country where there’s ample job opportunities, they just wouldn’t put up with the bullshit and bullying.
Sometimes shoes are too big to fill, even if you got a big Johnson. “Wahhh it’s woke” yeah, the modern Australian workplace is woke. It’s an accurate representation of the modern Australian workplace.
No, Australia has this certain set of people who work the abc/sbs (our public broadcasters) who get large sums of public/corporate money to make woke terrible trash and "local" content that few people watch. This is yet another iteration of that.

You could do The Office of any freaking country existing, I honestly don’t care. It’s an amazing show, if u manage to, good for your country. BUT The Office US characters and dynamics are SO perfectly tailored and in sync the way they are, that if u try and copy it it’ll be bad, very very bad. The Office idea is so good by itself that if u just let it be naturally it’ll work smoothly. so just take that and adapt it to your choice of characters which they should be natural and made specifically for the actors. Exactly like the office is did. If u remember, there are so many good scenes that were completely unscripted and improvised and they work sooo good (smtimes even better than the scripted one that they get aired instead) exactly because the characters and the actors are two faces of the same coin. Like you say at the start of the video, u can clearly notice that they tried waaay to much giving a kind of forced and fake veil to the whole thing. Now, there are way worse shows that The Office Australia, but it def has A LOT of improvements to work on if they want to have more audiences/seasons.
No but it’s a cultural staple recognized literally all around the world. Like the original Star Wars serie is. We ended up asking for more and we fuxking ruined it. And if u still don’t, just shut up and let us be happy, thanks :) With love, from Italy (sry for English mistakes)❤
According to rumors, Ricky Gervais did not want to do the cameo in the US version because it has no relation to the original BBC series. It took a good payday, first-class flights, and five-star hotels for him and his partner.
Stevie's actor is actually transmasc/nonbinary, so the running joke of Hannah thinking he's a lesbian is really funny because that really is just part of the trans experience
I think Australian Jim is going to get with Australian Dwight... why else would a man pick on a woman? also, the actress they got to play Greta is pretty meh,
A guy picking on a girl is only good material for a romance if she picks on him back and there is actual banter involved. Otherwise its just the same as anyone picking on someone who doesn't like it--bullying.

The saying “no one asked for it” makes no sense. It’s either good or it’s bad. We asked for more Star Wars but look where that got us.
And following that, noone asked for an Andor series and yet people love it
The phrase does make sense... If no one asked for it, the demand is going to be low AND itll be scrutinized heavily for co-opting the office name.
