    Why do all GCI brake runs lean to the side

    • @flash31939
      @flash31939 3 года назад +13

      I’m no expert, but speaking from an engineering background I’d say it’s to increase the horizontal contact/frictional force between the brakes and the fins on the train to therefore increase the effective braking.

    • @buhl86
      @buhl86 3 года назад +27

      Wooden coasters run with a set gap in the width of the track and the trains are slightly narrower to allow them to go around turns without damaging the track. In recent years, GCI has begun to use magnetic breaking on their wood coasters, the only problem being that magnetic breaking requires the brake fin on the train to be in a very precise location inside the breaking magnets. If the break run was parallel to the ground, the play in the set gap of the track and the train could allow the fin to contact the magnets and therefore reducing the evocativeness of the breaking and possibly damaging the system. by leaning the track, GCI is able to keep the coasters guide wheels fixed against the rail and therefore keep the braking fins going through the eddy current braking system consistently and effectively.

    Coasterforce showed some of the new track as well and I commented on how smart of an idea this is for GCI! RMC has taken over the world of amusement rides with super high quality coasters and their ability to rebuild bad woodies into awesome monsters. They even rebuilt 2 of GCI's coasters, and obviously, GCI can't have that! What makes this such a great idea is that it gives parks an even LOWER cost alternative to retracking coasters without having to rebuild/redesign their coasters like RMC does. Sometimes people just like a simple wooden coaster ride with lots of air time without the flips, and sometimes, RMC rides are just a tad too intense.
    What a great move by GCI, because for any park that has a GCI coaster, they can just go to them instead of RMC now. Now it forces Gravity Group to make a move as well (to be fair only Hades I believe is their roughest ride), and this limits what RMC can rebuild/redesign, forcing them to make a move as well for their future.
    As a student of logistics, I love seeing stuff like this.

    It’s smart because now they can re-track existing rides with new GC I track. That’s some thing RMC can’t do or won’t do

      If your saying that rmc can't convert a gci to a hybrid,than your wrong. Joker at six flags discovery kingdom was a gci called roar. I'm pretty sure it had a similar layout to the one at six flags america.

      This was only done to patent their design so most likely no. They will be doing predator though. Not sure if its full steel retrack. They probably wont do the lift hill or brake run.

      I think Fun Spot would be more likely to add titan track to Mine Blower than add more to White Lightning, Mine Blower is a much more aggressive ride and has gotten unbearably rough.
