I wouldn't say that the racing was better then than it is now, but for me these were the golden years of dirtbike racing just because of how I perceived this stuff when I was younger. I had a Yamaha pw80 and all I could thing about was getting that kx60 because a 2-stroke without a kickstand was like the epitome of a racing dirtbike to me! lol But man, I gotta say after riding the 250f the technology and capabilities of these bikes are pretty rad
Yeah when I did get the kx60 i took that kickstand right off.. but we rode more trials than tracks so it was less convenient. I've ridden the rm125 and rm-z250 back to back for comparison. I hated that the 2strokers are about dead in mx and sx racing, but I can see why. The rm125 was fun and felt "flickable" and i had to work the clutch more to keep the power in the sweet spot. The power of the rmz250 was just always there tho, super smooth and really stable* esp. coming out of turns. I felt less confident jumping the heavier feeling 4 stroke at first, but once you get used to it..you twist the throttle and she hops right over the doubles!
Yep, taking the kickstand off my 1980 CR80R and finding a good milk crate was a big deal. It was crucial for fantasy garage racing on school nights before bed. I even put a linen sheet over it for that "Wah Lah!" effect. Miss you, Dad.
I miss two strokes in supercross. its just not the same as it use to be. When they would come off the gate it sounded like something you will never hear anywhere else. a big pack of bees. Long life the 2 Stroke
that 2002 kawi was so slow out of the crate. Amazing how fast they made bubbas, and even more amazing how fast he was able to go on it. One of my favorite years of moto.❤️🤙🏻
I bought a new bike every year from 99 till 03.jetted it pipe and reed spacers and they where fast. Had a few mod bikes also and the stockers with a few tweaks where close.
It really wasn't, hence why it was allowed in the 125 class. The 250f nowadays would be a bit quicker, due to them being lighter, and the fact they now rev more like a 2 stroke. But the early 250f was heavy, slightly sluggish, and the power rolled on smooth, whereas the 125 2 stroke had explosive power.
James Stewart was faster than any other rider lap for lap track for track......he doesnt have more championships...but he holds way more weight in terms of speed on the bike
The two stroke were and always will be fast accelerating, they had a class called thumpers no comparison that's why they are allowed double the cc never would you see 125 four stroke or 250 . Politicians suck that is the last words on motor comparison
if you're having trouble hitting those ruts just perfect, then practice on a street bike. you'll learn where to plant the wheel, and how to run it through the groove.
there was jusr a few 250 4 strokes back then. most were 450. if u remember kawi and suski had the same bike back then. as in the same i mean, the only difference was the color. motor and all was the same. then they broke apart and made own bikes.
I raced with James Stewart, and a guy named Brandon Layton, you ever heard of him?!? Brandon Layton was even faster than James, & the "Windham Doubles" at Ponca City...which got their name when Kevin Windham cleard them on a 125, Brandond cleard them on a 60cc bike, HE would've been the next superstar of the sport, but he got killed when a guy who was riding in the wrong direction LANDED ON HIM on a CR500...Brandon was on his YZ80...
IMaDEM0N You are probably right, Brandon was the only rider that could beat James, the only one. But i want you to know something, looking at Brandons death there was another Brandon Laton, 18 years old killed by a dr driving his car on the wrong side of a divided highway, in 2003 both Brandons would be almost the same age.... very spooky...

After 1997, when Doug Henry raced the first Yamaha 4-stroke, (and won), it still took 8 years for the starting line to be all 4-stroke. RC and James held out the longest, and were still winning on their 2-strokes.
Stewart's jumping that 125 like he's on a 450
Damn stewart making 2020 450 moves on a 2002 125. Mind is blown.
First time watching his highlights? Lol

Yes is better, ride a 2 stroke demandas more skills than a 4 strokes

good ol' days
Que increíble manejo el de James Stewart por Dios!!! Que grande que es !!!
Mi piloto favorito del supercross !! 💪🏽🔥
James nailed the track on the 125..super quick
I MISS 125's!!!!
The absolute 125cc GOAT
1:49 I miss the days of Reed on a blue bike with Thor gear, and Bubba wearing pink fox gear on a Kawi.
I miss 125's, I still say the fastest bike I ever road in my life was the 1998 Yamaha YZ125...those things were SO FUCKING HOT!!!
Great bubba stewart
When 125 2-stokes were being fazed out, they raced in the "lites" class, 250 4-stoke.
Best Commentators, Art Eckman and David Bailey, 2strokes for Life 🧬
Damn, that lineup was stacked with all the 2 stroke rippers!!!
Two of the greatest.
back in the good ole days where he doesnt crash every other lap ha. but still one of the best in the sport
do we ever see races like the old days. nope.
when we actually had good commentators
Awesome vids dude! Thanks for the uploads!!

that's the real James Stewart
i wish they still raced 2-strokes in supercross :(
James Smith it's liek why can't they there's no reason they cant
