    • @MathewVsSportsMediaandGames

      @@CP-kb1du In terms of elite riders, I agree, but "GOAT"... certainly not. Your 450cc career is what really matters most, and JS7 won only 2 Supercross titles (3 if you count the 2006 World Supercross GP), and swept the 2008 450cc Motocross series. Stewart had the break-neck speed and all, but 2009 was truly the beginning of the end, and that backwards-framed Yamaha was the culprit; the WADA suspension he got in late 2014 was the final nail in his coffin.
      The numbers certainly mean something, and I emphasize that because in the end, RC had tallied 150 career AMA SX/MX wins and 15 titles (5 SX, 10 MX); Stewart had 98 wins (50 SX, 48 MX) and 3 titles. The truth is that the score is 150-98 -- with RC leading the way. Jeremy McGrath did the same thing when Ricky Carmichael rose to challenge him in 2001. Davey Coombs said it best that McGrath wanted everyone to remember the score (as of Jan. 2001) was 72-2. In the end, McGrath's still the KING with 72 wins and 7 titles while RC went on to 48 wins and 5 titles.
      How Stewart ended his career was downright disastrous; Carmichael went out on top after 2007 while Stewart "played hide-and-seek" for 2.5 years after 2016.

      @@MathewVsSportsMediaandGames you are correct, Im not going to argue with what you stated. But I would remind you he did go 24-0 in mx (2008)
      He did win arguably the most exciting season of SX I have ever seen (2009) against a prime chad reed after a DNF in round one.
      He did obtain 50sx wins, second all time.
      I do agree with what you said regarding the garbage SX only contract.
      But even in 2014 he was still waxing the young guns.
      My only argument is that... yes inconsistency and industry choices effected his over all wins and championships.
      But there is no denying stewart rode to win at all times, he had a kill or be killed mind set once the gate dropped. And it took him to a highly respectable career statistically (not MC in sx, not RC in MX) but he most likely.... love him or hate him drew more fans than any rider in the sport, and did so while winning races in ways that no other man could do. The record is not as impressive as RC's or MC's, but the highlight reels and performances blew those boys out of the water.

      @MathewVsSportsMediaandGames  3 года назад +1

      @@jhamelin119 I don't deny Stewart's win or crash mentality was one for the ages, but it did also land him in some trouble with riders and the AMA as well. It also can't be denied that James earned the moniker "The Fastest Man on the Planet" either, and while Stewart earned a lot of bad marks in my book with all his on-track incidents, I did start gaining respect for him when his on-track incidents noticeably stopped, and he started being more open to the press. However, a lot of that went away with his 2.5-year "hide-and-seek game" (as I like to call it), and I certainly felt for him after his WADA suspension because that ultimately did him in.

When McGrath was winning his titles, he did everything he could to keep his gap at 25 points or higher in case of an emergency (bike breakdown specifically). To make matters worse, the budget has considerably tightened to a point where the teams are centering around the 250cc class while a 450cc ride is virtually a luck of the draw, and the factory teams only take TWO riders under their truck (3 in the case of the Rockstar Husky team). Jason Thomas has even said that the elite guys like Roczen, Tomac, Musquin, and Webb all absorb so much of the salary that rides are SO limited, and sponsors only take interest if a rider takes 1st place only!! In addition, it's highly unlikely the 250 2-strokes will come back to Supercross, which may give some help to the premier class for more rides available. I forgot how great Denney Stephenson was on color commentary, Ricky Carmichael does it now and he is awful.

      I admit, Ricky has gotten better, but you can't beat David Bailey for sure. Denny Stephenson was good, too despite speaking so fast.

      I'll say. I liked RJ calling races, and Emig knew a lot from a psychological standpoint. Carmichael talks like he's an avid fan, but he's improved little by little.
