"Play the game, don't try to win the game". The complete opposite of the vibe cultivated at most academies.

What I learn from your seminar on RUclips: its not the techniques you show, its what you say about the techniques you show.
Its not the techniques we use in rolling, its the who, what and when of the techniques.
Thank you Rob. This is university level teaching.

Fantastic concepts! “Random warm-up, random technique.” The bane of my jitz experiences.

I started out as a wrestler. I was pretty good at grappling and use to always haveeeee to "win"!!!! When I started jits, I got my blue belt in 3 months because I was just trying to smash everyone! Fast forward and when I started to realize I don't know sheesh about jits and I'm just using wrestling. The higher belts for the most parts knew how to nullify my aggression and I was drowning. Then I started to rethink my approach. Instead of trying to smash everyone, I said " how can I use my wrestling but incorporate jits". I started to study more and slow down. I put myself in bad position all the time and tried to use jits to get out. I became more playful and stop caring about winning. When I did that my style became a hybrid of wrestling and jits with a ton of playfulness to it. Guys started to say " I really like training with you" mostly lower rank guys because I wasn't the higher belt who was trying to kill them. This translated in getting really good and learning how to use wrestling when I needed it and jits when I needed it. It also let me hang with more experience guys because I was willing to get beat up without soley trying to use wrestling.

I think the advantage to adding the wedges and lever control is 1st is relatively unnoticeable to the regular BJJ grappling community. It fits kinda in the hidden jujitsu category. I think it allows you to move around your opponent which could give you an advantage in your transitions. I will definitely add this to my game! Thanks for sharing with the grappling community!

I love this style a lot. I've never understood the obsession with classical chest to chest crossface pressure. It seems to go against the whole ethos of BJJ, which is as I understand it...efficiency. With the frame game and wedges, you're almost using no energy at all. Just gravity, you're not having to constantly squeeze for dear life. And, if you're locking your limbs all the way out, you're barely engaging your muscles, you could sit there all day.

To be fair, this is probably the first time his room is hearing this type of activity being done. A little debriefing goes a long way to set up all future games

White belt about 6 months in- Went to a seminar of our BJJ club, we went through about 30 different things in 90 minutes... Would've preferred this instead...
