First one there gets the spot, pro or not. That guy works 40 hours a week just to have a few hours on the lake. Pro should be able to find another spot
@@vladimirrienas5546well you can take your so called “pro” tournament and put it on a private lake and get off our public water and land if you wanna run a business and make a buck. We should cancel all tournaments so you hacks can get a life
Man does the guy that is on his day off have his career on the line over fishing that day?? I think not. I’m not a professional angler by the way it’s all about communication though for sure
That was exactly why so many people dislike tournaments and tournament anglers. We need to hold ourselves to a higher standard during tournaments, not a lower one. That guy didn’t owe Chris a thing and believe it or not, most weekend anglers couldn’t care less if you’re “at work” because most weekend anglers actually work for a living.
*Incredibly well said.* For decades I never had any issues with the pro’s. I ALWAYS respected them. Now, as a Floridian, I’m not only seeing how these guys carry themselves, but I’m seeing what these tournaments are doing to the lakes, themselves. And, there is an epidemic number of tournaments down here. Which means you always have a chance of dealing with this. I never thought I’d see Randy be OK with this kind of behavior, but then again, he’s done a few things lately that have me wondering if he’s the kind of person he claims to be.
@@phillamoore157 This is one of the reasons why I participate in way more kayak tournaments than bass boat tournaments (I have both types of boats). The brotherhood/sisterhood and overall humility in the kayak scene is much better than what I've seen in the bass boat tournaments.
@@cuivre2004you are tripping. Kayak anglers are just as bad or worse. Kayak anglers I see just beat down boat ramps and they roll right up on you and don’t say a word unless they asking or trying to see what I’m using. Worse thing is that kayaks beat down the local spots and the camper spots. Spots people without boats have to use. All tournaments are stuoid and shouldn’t be allowed. Get your own stadium, build your own lake. This was paid for by our taxes not so you can make a buck
@@motherlodebassin5369 I can tell you're never fished a kayak bass tournament in your life, have you? We don't crowd boatless bank trash out of anything. Anything we catch gets immediately released right back into the water, except for a picture and measurement being taken. That is "just as bad or worse" than hauling them around in a glorified washtub all day, then releasing them in some dank and polluted marina backwater?
@@cuivre2004 I don't tournament fish, but I have been kayak fishing more and more because it allows you to fish places boats can't fish, or have a no wake zone. And, most boaters (aside from entitled jacx@sses like Zaldain) respect kayakers, knowing you could really hurt someone driving like an a-hole. It's just a better way to fish all the way around if you're physically able to do so.👍
I’m a semi driver. Should all non professional drivers get out of my way because I’m working? Should I have the best parking spots given to me when I make a delivery? No that’s ridiculous! Improvise adapt and overcome. Find another place to fish. You’re the so called pro.
I get your point. but I’m gonna get out of your way if I can. 😬Randy made out like Chris eased up and politely asked the guy if he could fish his spot. I didn’t see that happen… I think it was out of character. Chris is a good guy, but he didn’t handle that well at all… about sharing the road with big trucks though. I kinda do think people should at least be aware of how much more difficult it is to drive a big truck. It doesn’t take a lot of extra effort to lay back and let you guys have extra space to merge and be extra aware about not cutting you off, etc. I don’t think it’s too much for you to ask that people respect that you’re driving for your livelihood. Everyone has had a bad day at work… Chris didn’t really approach it that way though.
I went and watched the video. Zaldain was in the wrong, period. If he would have eased up on those guys ,instead of coming in hot, and explained to them the situation and politely asked they may have agreed to just share the water with him or let him have it to himself. Instead he come in hot, dropped it off plane basically right in front of them in the direction they were likely fishing toward and just grabbed up a rod and started at it. Then he got butt hurt and made things much worse by saying he was going to come to the guy's work and disrupt him. That guy didn't come to Zaldain, Zaldain came to him. I wouldn't be defending those actions.
Agree 100%, all it takes is a simple ask,”hey you mind if I fish in front of or behind you” so easy! I deal with this more then I’d like to admit on my homebody’s of water, everyone just thinks they got the right away no matter what. Common courtesy and respect go long way on the water
When Zaldain pulled up he was pretty confrontational with that guy asking him where he works. He might be a good guy like you said but that was weak and unprofessional. Its public water and Zaldains tournament is not that guys problem. Some of ya’ll need to get over yourselves.
You assume fishermen as a whole are concerned about pros or aspire to be one when in reality we couldn’t care less.. and if I’m there first it’s my spot.. don’t care if it’s day 3 of the classic and you in the lead…. A pros money needs are not my problems.. let the pro be empathetic and leave
I love fishing and I have witnessed this before. Why do the pro fishermen get priority over the guy that might only get out 5 times a year? I watch Hackney chew out some guy fishing from the boat dock in his homes back yard. Same bull shit excuse! I’m fishing for a lot of money!!! That guy spent a lot of money on his lake home. Find another fishing hole Hackney!!! You guys don’t own the water. First come first serve
Randy as a fellow tournament fisherman, I respectfully disagree. Chris came in hot off pad on that point and I wouldn’t appreciate that. If he had shut his boat down much earlier and trolled up to the guy without a rod in his hand, it could have been handled much differently. I’m a fan of the sport and a fan of Chris and Trait, but he was in the wrong.
I agree also. My thoughts are exactly like yours. My guess about this situation is if Chris had shut down a few hundred yards away and trolled up to the locals and asked if he could fish and share the point, I bet good money the local would have been happy and even flattered to share the “public lake point” with Chris. Chris was just a bit “keyed up in the moment” and he didn’t handle it correctly. If the local had not wanted to share the point, Chris should have just motored away and come back later. I bet the local would have left in 30 minutes. I like Chris and enjoy watching his podcasts. Using social media to show this confrontation in my mind is a big negative. This confrontation and video made public was a bad decision. But no matter your age, or profession, we all learn from our mistakes on the water and in social media. Chris will be a stronger angler now in the future.
My workplace isnt a public lake.....that said if a tournament angler came up on me and asked if he could share i might let him have it...but if there was attitude id tell him to suck it...
Naw Naw Naw! He didn’t ask politely. He handled it wrong. People fish every day on every lake. Pros should know that. If someone is on a spot go somewhere else. Etiquette works both ways.
It boils down to who was there first and the other fisherman should have respect and try somewhere else!! The tournament organizers should be demanding respect from the contestants and everyone be a real professional!
No locals don't owe any "proffesional courtesy" because they aren't proffesionals. It's the other way around. The "proffesional" should defer to a person who is there already. Nobody has rights to any part of the lake just because they fished it previously and thinks they have preferential rights. And the same goes to any body. If your so good then go somewhere else and prove it.
Can I like this a million times???? My exact thoughts! If pro had fished that spot a couple days in a row the pro is NOT entitled to that spot! Surely, he has fished other spots. In my opinion if you get to a spot and someone is already there LEAVE THEM ALONE! Go somewhere else and check back later!
I don't really give a crap if you are a pro or not. Show another man some respect. You know, it seems to me that tournament fishing is a root cause of most of bass fishings problems. Maybe we should look at pro anglers as the entitled jerks that they are.
The weekend fisherman might have been trying to catch fish to feed his family. I’ve been in both situations. In a tournament I let the local that was already there have it. Like you said, there are other locations just like it.
Key word is "respect" , most today don't know what that is. You get what you give and if you come in on me like he did, you're gonna get the same in return.
There's a tournament every single weekend on the lake you (Randy) and I fish on. I'm sure it's just as bad elsewhere. The recreation fisher shouldn't be made to feel like they constantly don't have rights to fish where they want.
That Local had every right to tell Chris to beat it I feel Chris's True Colors came out.Your a "Pro" you should have plenty of spots. Not the locals problem if your struggling.
Love your content , been subscribed since the beginning keep up the good work. I respectfully disagree. I fish on Hartwell most of the time. Seems like there is a tournament there every day, and a lot of those guys act like they are fishing the classic. Sounds like you're referring to the pros. I agree with you there. But if I yield to every tournament fisherman, then I would never get to fish. No one should expect anyone to move.
I work hard I dont get to fish often if im on my home like Im sorry my time is as good as yours. Im not scouting pros to take their spots but I will be damned if im moving sorry not sorry Im a decent human being respect goes both ways
I usually do not comment on here and i normally enjoy your videos. However, I think you got it wrong on this one. When you said if the roles were reversed ? Yes they were ,Zaldain, rolled up on this guy, i do not think i heard him ask if the guy cared if he fished there? He in my opinion acted like what you called a 3rd guy situation. Not a good look at all. then he made it sound like it was the other guys fault and talked about his job! Totally wrong!
For a professional tournament angler, you gotta hold yourself to higher standards and keep your cool. I do like chris but it didn't seem very professional the way he handled it. We all gotta share the lake.
Are you sure you watched the video?because Chris didn’t ask the local politely if he could fish there,he pulled up and started fishing. If you can’t deal with the “pressure”of being a professional angler then maybe you shouldn’t do it for a living. I own a small business and it’s stressful and competitive but it’s the profession I chose and I will never play the victim card.
I normally don't disagree with you but. I only have a few hours a week to fish. If I moved Everytime a tournament was going on I would have to quit fishing.
Randy, I agree with you most of the time but not this time. Yes these "fishing space" arguments do happen a lot. There are videos of dock owners arguing with tournament fishermen. Also, I have seen a video of Scott Martin threatening and berating a fellow tournament angler for being in "his fishing space." In this case we heard the weekend angler say that he has one day off to fish, so we know that he did not know that he was violating Zaldain's "fishing space." Also in this case Chris filmed himself violating the BASS code of conduct. He threatened the guy at least twice. I'm surprised that the weekend angler didn't report him to BASS officials. You spoke previously about rules having gray areas. Well, I am here to tell you that this is not a gray area. Chris was obviously violating the BASS code of conduct. He knew it and he didn't care. The fines are appropriate, IMHO and I suspect, based on his temper, that this will not be the last time that he is fined.
It’s all about communication, if Chris had just simply had the discussion before busting up in there and throwing a line out, I typically just ask, that simple. Chris was wrong in this particular instance.
One more point. it was obvious the guy he rolled up on was a " Target Demographic" of fishing products, No way in hell is this guy or his friends going to purchase any product s that Zaldain is sponsored by let alone associated with?? People wonder why sponsors are getting scarce? Just my 2 cents. Thanks
I disagree with your take on this. It is public water and no one owns a spot. It is first come, first served. I never run up on people already on a spot no matter how bad I want it. It does not hurt to ask nicely but one must be prepared for no as the answer.
Me and a buddy were "weekend" fishing on Lake Perris about 25 years ago and having a good morning. There was a professional ABA tournament going on that we didn't know about. All of a sudden Don Iovino trolls around the corner and into the cove me and Carl were fishing in and he says "professional tournament angler coming through so get out of the way". Me and Carl pretty much told Don Iovino to go f'k himself and then he gets all pissed off at us. We almost came to blows. A few years later I attended a 3 day Bass University seminar in Irvine, California. on day 2 Don Iovino was one of the guess speakers and I walked out on him after about 15-20 minutes. The man was in love with himself.
Nobody knows the other anglers story. For Example: Maybe he was diagnosed with terminal cancer recently and that day was one of the last few days he has left to fish. Nobody knows HIS side of the story. He was there first, as I understand....and THAT RIGHT THERE should be the deciding factor of who STAYS, and who smiles, waves, and LEAVES.
That's a really good point. We have no idea of the other guy situation but it's really wrong that Chris tried to out the guys identity to public embarrass him. That could be a defamation lawsuit
Chris pulled up and started fishing. He didn't ask or say anything to the guy. Just gave him a wave. If he had asked, there probably wouldn't be an issue.
He was totally in the wrong no matter how nice of guy he is. It would have been totally different if he would have ask. But he blew in and jumped up and act liked he owned the place. Wrong is wrong boy was he wrong. They should have set him a tourney. He acted like a spoiled brat and a aragant ass. So if there are 100s of points like that he should have went and scoped another one. I really can't believe you are defending this. If my best friend who I love like I brother did this I would tell him how wrong this was. It was wrong
I think you have to look at it from the locals pov. He probably has to deal with tournaments every weekend, possibly multiple tournaments on the same weekend. When there's hundreds of boats every weekend, it would bother me too. Locals have dibbs if they're at the spot first.
It don't matter why the guy was fishing that spot, he was there first and its his right to fish it, we still live in a free country. Some pros feel like their better than everyone else and can just take over, it is good to see this happen sometimes to bring a light on these so called pros.
Fact is, Chris straight rolled up on em Randy. If you're rolling up, just casually talk to the guys there first and explain the situation. Communicate. If other guy is being a d*ck and not hearing ya, just dip to next spot. Gotta be the bigger man than what all happened that day. We know Chris is overall a good dude. But in saying that, It was a great opportunity to show his perspicacity, professionalism, and present a learning opportunity. For kids, younger boaters, and aspiring tournament anglers who might not even know the best way to handle this situation, and look up to guys like him for these scenarios just as much as fishing techniques itself. It's truly not just about catching fish, but conducting yourself on the water accordingly.
Pro entitlement is a disease. Pros have zero right to expect recreational fisherman bestow them with the right away. Chrisy would have needed a new boat wrap if he hobo-ed up on me on my day off. No it’s not professional courtesy to give in to money fisherman. It’s not jealousy Randy, it’s first come, first serve. Careers and livelihood have no bearing over fellow humans right to the pursuit of happiness.
Even not knowing him, and definitely not over reacting, he could have went about it completely different. And even the video footage he put out on his own channel, he made himself look like an asshat...I usually give up spots to anyone without question but if he gets shitty and an attitude first then screw that guy. Zaldain didn't start off nice and asking to have the space, it seemed he felt privileged and entitled to it because he was "better"....sorry but I would have told him off more than that local did
I'm a kayak angler & like to get hard to get areas, so I usually don't see many people when I'm on the water. When I do get on main lake at Murray & Clark's Hill & people do pull up on me. It does drive me crazy! I don't do that to anyone, ever! But if I was fishing a spot & someone from a tournament pulled up & talked to me respectfully, asking if it's cool if they fish that spot for their tournament. I would absolutely have zero issues letting them have that spot.
Agree 100%. I kayak fish Table Rock Lake - have done so since 2010. My wife and I both kayak fish. The tournament jerks back off when my wife is with me, but they have no reservations about trying to force me off my spot if I'm solo.
You got this whole situation backwards. Watch the clip. Chris flew up on that guy and probably ruined the spot anyway. He was not curtious to the weekend guy. I dont blame him one bit. Your biased is clouding your judgment on this.
I've been listening to Randy's vlog for awhile and I have heard him talk about how to handle somebody already fishing in a spot. Chris did not handle it the way Randy himself has said is the right way to handle it and now Randy is defending him? Pick a position Randy. Even in your example of Ken Cook, you said he explained to you that he was catching his fish there and ASKED if he could have it. I didin't see that happen here.
Too often, tournament fishermen feel they have some sort of "right of way" or greater right than members of the general public who are fishing the same water. They don't. You hold a tournament on public water and it's up to you to work around the public.
Nope. RB says he is coming from the angle of a none pro. He then goes on to say, when he runs into this situation, he says he gets out of the way and "shows them professional courtesy." A Freudian slip of the tongue. That is not to say RB is not being honest. It's that his view is skewed from being around pros all his life or participating as a tournament fishermen and that is fine. I saw the CZ vid. I'm sure if Randy says he is a good guy, I have no reason to disbelieve him. However, his handling of the situation was totally uncalled for. His follow up vid was no better. RB, I appreciate your loyalty and taking up for a friend, but in this case you have no reason to call the guys he ran up on dicks! Chris was unprofessional in his approach. He should have at least to have enough courtesy to tell the locals his situation and if they minded him fishing there and abided by what they said. End of story.
I’ve had way too many guys in tournaments roar up to my buddy and me while we’re catching fish and ruin our fishing for the day. Way too many pros think they own the water just because they’re in a tournament! The real respect comes from the fisherman, pros or not, who see someone fishing in a spot already and move on and don’t cause confrontations like this one!
Im a weekend bass fisherman/tournament fisherman. Id never expect someone to give up a spot just because I found fish there the previous day. In fact its quite common that one of your spots will have someone on it when you get there. Either fish behind them or go elsewhere, thats that. Ive fished behind others and caught fish they missed. I didnt see the video of this incident but if as you say that Chris said "there were hundreds of other points just like that one,why couldnt that guy go fish one of those?" To that id say Chris could just as easily go fish one of those hundreds of other points.
Ok I went to Chris's channel and watched his video about this. I think you might have done Chris a disservice here by not getting the story correct. Chris never asked this guy to leave, he was more than willing to share the spot. His only fault was in letting the guy get under his skin. Sadly as a pro he cant react that way without it becoming blown out of proportion. So I think Chris was in the right here, he was trying to share the spot and the other guy was being a jerk about it.
i have to disagree Randy. Have always repected your channal sir. Mark Rose came in on me hot in his tourment. I had been fishing there on a family vacation on KY LAKE. He kept pushing ME OFF the spot I was catching fish on. Finaully he said move on down the lake Triton, I m fishing for money and this is my spot. Always liked him, but not after that. Very disrepectful. Most pros know fishing on pulbic water, locals, vacationers will be there. Seems like the tOurnment folks just see it as normal. I dont agree with they own the spots and water over me.
Back in the day, we rarely had tournaments, so it was no big deal. You didn't run across that situation very often. But now, in my area you got two or three tournaments every weekend on these lakes. And very few of them are true professionals, meaning that they make their livelihood only on fishing. How do you guys think that changes things?
I’m sorry Randy but would he act the same way towards another pro angler that might be in last place or middle of the pack so he has a better chance of winning? No, that local angler has every right to fish that spot and not be harassed by a pro or any other angler.
Finally!! A video where I can actually agree with Randy!! I never thought I would see the day. 😂 Nice job Randy I 100% agree with you on the situation. It's all about respect.
Local guy was there first plain and simple , Zaldain came in full bore and started running his mouth ! Zaldain is a smart ass always has been , he should have been disqualified ! If I had been the local guy I would have went back to the ramp they were using and been waiting on him to see if he still wanted to run that fucking mouth !
Pro fishermen get to do a privileged thing. I wouldn't expect a local, who works hard all week, to give up there spot. Pro fishermen have taken something that is meant to be relaxing recreation, and turn it into a bad situation. Don't expect much sympathy.
U completely and totally are saying to give up your water to a tournament angler if u are out there on your limited weekend fishing days with your friends and family. Your words not mine. For all u Randy-Bromancers, this is the real Randy.
This is par for the course, as of late, with Randy. He’s been on a censorship kick regarding his interpretation of “misinformation and/or conspiracy theories” (which he has yet to define, and could mean a thousand things, almost none of them good), as well…even when you agree with him, and trying to support him. And, now he thinks tournament anglers can behave however they want on a lake, which has become an all-out epidemic. In places like Florida, this crap is completely out of control. And, the number of tournaments makes the problem exponentially worse. *Tournament anglers don’t own the damn lake…..PERIOD. They have the same obligation to use some common courtesy when driving their boats, as anyone else on the water. And, in what’s become typical Randy, as of late…he just did a video on this….VERY….TOPIC, not even roughly 2-3wks ago, if memory serves.* All Zaldain had to do was approach that spot like a respectful boater. Or, do what the rest of us would’ve done, which is find another spot. He pulled in swinging his “junk”, like a lot of pro anglers do, expecting everyone else near him to put up with it, because they think they own the lake. I don’t blame that guy one bit in this case.
Should be able to find another area. Pros don't own the lake, and in fact, they make the lake worse for everyone. Get over it or get another job, Chris.
Randy, right out of the gate. I want to acknowledge I'm a big Chris Z fan. Although I don't know him personally, he seems to be a very likeable professional. Unfortunately in this case he didn't act professionally. That's on him, and I believe he acknowledged that himself. The other angler had every right to to stand his ground but could have been courteous and let him have the area. It's like being at line at the check out...Let the person with one item go in front of you since you have a full cart... It's simple courtesy, which in today's world of me first entitlement just really shows how far.we have regressed as a society.
Randy you're on the wrong side of this fight. Zaldain was wrong in every aspect of how he handled this situation. You call him a "Good Guy" he certainly did not show those qualities here. You make the same absurd comment in your argument. He has his career on the line, he's fishing for his livelyhood. Zaldain chose to fish for a living. The guy sitting on that point chose to go fishing that day and has every much the right to fish as any pro does. This situation has made Zaldain look like a complete Ass, and I'm sorry anyone that defends his actions are just wrong.
If a pro comes up to me and disrespects me right off the bat there is no way im letting someone run me off , Plus stop making the other guy sound so terrible! He didnt start it
One other side of this is that with the number of tournaments now it's almost impossible for a recreational angler to be on the water without an event going on. So are recreational anglers supposed to yield their spots EVERY time they go fishing because there is always a tournament going on? If you only get on the water 1 day a month on the weekend on a highly pressured lake the likelihood there is not a tournament going on is remote ... that is a problem
I disagree completely. Chris handled it poorly. Tournament doesn’t mean shit. If you’re a pro, go find another spot. Recreational guy has just as much right. Also Trait is a loud mouth big time.
What you don’t realize there are these locals get to the spot on purpose before the pros are even blasting off. They know what time they takeoff and they get there way before.
@@randyblaukatintuitive I really don’t believe there are that many locals who do that in the grand scheme of things. (I don’t have the effort or time to screw with people on my off time. I want to catch fish) It’s probably when it’s on a good spot, that all the locals know about, and pros discover it and want to fish it. If the local(s) know the spot and beat them to it, so sad. If pros are real pros, they should be able to catch fish anywhere on a lake with all their fancy boats/electronics. They shouldn’t throw a fit and be entitled when another beats them to their spot. Another point, if fishing tournaments is their “job” then have the tournaments during the work week (M-F), then the locals and the pros never see each other/clash bc pros are traveling when the locals are fishing.
Chris could be the nicest guy in the world but when you roll up on someone and try to Jack their spot that’s a no no it’s disrespectful regardless of who it is there is no excuse for it . If the shoe was on the other foot I think Chris wouldn’t have it either.
We the people shouldn’t have to share our water with a business. Tournaments are corporations. Get off my lake. How about no tournaments or no tournaments during the weekends!! Have your tournaments on the weekday oh wait the weekdays is where you best it down all week before the tournament. Can you tell I hate tournaments? 😂
Tough Tiddy. Nobody cares about high pressure pro garbage. First come first serve. Pro angler has zero right over the local guy. Tournament fishing has turned to crap anymore.
I moved here to fish the lake. Other people live here. Many moved here to fish the lake. I worked my whole life to be able to afford to move here and fish the lake. Same for many of my fellow citizens. We are polite, but no one comes in here and tells us to get lost, I'm taking this spot. I have less than 5 years left to fish. I pay taxes for the blacktop, for that launch, for that city RV park you're staying at. You want to run me off my home waters, I'll just run circles around your boat. You've been able to intimidate too many people without blow-back. Straighten up and welcome to our community. I hope you win the tournament. This is not personally directed at Mr. Zaldain, but all visitors to our city. I will also say I have made mistakes, and no one is perfect. It's just that these waters don't belong to visitors more than they belong to locals.
Chris did not ask politely if he could fish that spot! In life, you treat others the same way you would like to be treated! Regardless, if you’re a pro or not! Chris did not act like a professional during this situation!
This is the only thing I have ever disagreed with you on. If a weekend angler is fishing a spot and a pro pulls up on it, that's tough luck for the pro, as far as I am concerned. That's the downside of fishing tournaments on public waters.
I like your perspective, Randy. Knowing that everyone makes mistakes, Chris didn’t handle it as a professional. But if I were in the shoes of the local angler, if Chris Zaldain pulled up to my spot, I’d be honored! How cool would it be to sit there with Chris fishing your spot and watch him catch a big fish, or two! Anyone who would get mad at Chris, doesn’t catch very many fish.
A pro angler's time on the water is "definitely not" more important than a recreational fisherman's. Fishing is a love and passion for most of us that do it regardless if its our job or not. Chris was wrong in his approach and how he handled it. Not what I would call being a good ambassador of the sport of bass fishing at all.
If zaldain would have asked and explained himself i probably would move but his arrogant attitude could have turned badly The way he behaved was terrible
"If someone is in a tournament then let them have it" being the concept for courtesy of a recreational weekend angler. It would not work here on the Tennessee River. Tournaments blanket the river 10 months of the year. With the best areas given to the tournament anglers it would leave the weekend angler with mediocre water or constantly getting out of the way of someone else. This may be short sighted although it may be reality.
Randy . As an 80 yr. old man I've been fishing competively since the 60s. Thats 1960s! Zaldain was in the wrong. He should have politely let the local have his spot. (First come, first served.) It would have done wonders for public relations. . I guess I'm old school but common courtesy is just that. I find that courtesy is becoming less and less common. IMHO. God Bless Sir 7:0010:158:117:417:44
My first disagreement with Randy on this one , but I agree with him on Chris, quality guy who was a little off that day . I was fishing in a Muskie tournament on Alum creek In Ohio and got ran all over by the bass tournament anglers that day , zero respect for me and what I was trying to accomplish that day . I was living on Grand lake St Mary’s and every Saturday morning I went out the bass tournament anglers ran over everybody, no respect. If we’re sharing the lake then let’s share the lake, and as usual when someone is on your spot you wait for it to clear before you come onto it , that is if we’re sharing the lake that day . Much respect to Randy though .
This is exactly why a lot of anglers have no respect for other anglers anymore. Guys, just pull right up next to you when you're fishing an area already. The pros doing it make it seem alright to do so to a lot of folks watching, and it's not. It's called respect, and no one should pull right up on you when you're already fishing an area, tournament, or not. I've been in this situation, and if a guy pulls up on me and says, "Hey brother, I'm fishing a big tournament. Do you mind if I fish. I'll let him have the spot out of courtesy to a fellow angler. An that's an individuals decision to make. But just don't run up on me and start throwing in the area I'm fishing, or yes. There's going to be a confrontation! Respect for other anglers is crucial, especially by the pros. People are watching and think anything you do is ok, even if it's not right, and that's not ok. Do better and show young and old anglers alike the respect every angler deserves. Don't teach them bad habits, and this one is at the top of the list, as it happens way too much nowadays.
Randy, I just want to add a couple other things. First off, I appreciate you making this video, I respect you for that. Secondly, we recreational fishermen buy our boats, buy our rods, buy our reels, buy our line, buy our baits and etc, etc. we work and make our money. We have no sponsorship discounting anything. We work hard, have families and children. It’s very hard to get time to do what we all love.. Chris is a good dude, I know this. He often stays neutral on his and Traits podcast as he should. I feel he probably had a very bad day preceding a bad few days. Thirdly, I’d hope the pro level guys could realize we are supporting you guys with buying everything fishing related. It’s not the only thing, non boaters aren’t wanting to share a boat with pros anymore and it’s not just FFS.. I appreciate many of your videos and will continue to view them and use your Tacklewarehouse code going forward. Take care Randy..
Since when does a tournament angler own the lake? They have to negotiate and deal with all of the elements of fishing, including weather, recreational craft, and other anglers.
I love you man and everything you do, and hopefully there's some footage I haven't seen yet, because I think you might be a lil biased on this situation...I never heard him politely ask anything, but then Chris goes to say he'll come to his work and disrupt it...if anything both guys are d-bags, but I definitely don't think k could defend zaldain...came across as privileged and spoiled to me
I just watched the whole Chris Zaldain video. and Chris was wrong in every way. There is no "other side." We all fish public lakes, and as such, no one has any special privilege to fish them, not those fishing tournaments, nor those who guide for a living. They should be very grateful that publicly provided funds have provided them with a way to make a living. Shame on their arrogance.
This poor guy just wanted to go fishing but was bullied out by some self entitled “fishing pro”. He was there first and this guy came and picked a fight with him. Honestly Randy, I have seen little kids fishing that had better etiquette than that. Remember there are people that actually live on those waters there whole life, YOU are the guest not them, if you can’t play nice with the locals, then take your stupid competition somewhere else.
so glad you’re finally talking about this homie i appreciate your history with this sort of interaction and i could 100% imagine that you would concede to the tournament angler. However i have two issues with this that would incline that disagree with you for THIS situation. First, you’re deeply involved with tournament angling and have been fishing professionally for 30 plus years, and also highly experienced fishing before that even. So you have spent every opportunity you’ve had fishing and you don’t NEED to fish any particular spot you’ve had that dirt time so it’s much easier to concede a spot and not be confident you can fish and catch them elsewhere. I highly doubt this angler has that confidence, dirt time, or experience anywhere near that level so that spot means so much more to him. In addition, he is expecting a code of ethics in fishing that he probably adheres to that is taught and ingrained amongst anglers so when that is broken he was probably extremely taken aback by it i’m sure he assumed this etiquette was universal. Secondly I love Chris and Trait so much (not that Trait had anything to do with this nor should she be harassed for defending her husband) but…Zaldain kinda rolled up chest puffed out entitled basically being a D. They way the interaction began with the “you know who i am” type stuff there was no chance for this to be civil and i feel like Zaldain started it off on that foot. In many industries we learn to get the results we want from an interaction with a certain manner of speaking that gives agency to the other person and at the same time incentivizing them to be on your side and oblige you. Like a positive rapport. Like police officers, security guards/doormen, 911 operators etc have these de escalation tactics in their speech and Zaldain did none of that and instantly put this guy on the defensive which made him mount an offense where he was going to do the complete opposite of what Zaldain wanted even going so far as to use his buddy to further impede Zaldains fishing. that was a complete break down of social interaction and Zaldain did that to himself regardless of who was right or wrong he turned an amenable situation into a blockade. also the entire “what if i went to your job and got in your way” BS come on man that was totally unnecessary and completely irrelevant to this situation there is absolutely no comparison and it also means Zaldain is acknowledging that this dude probably works a lot and doesn’t have much chance to fish and that Zaldain couldn’t give a damn which is another break down in the conversation a prideful dude in the defensive/attack mode isn’t going to respond well to. If this were a street altercation situation starting off on a foot like that would be a very bad thing regardless of winning or losing. Treat every situation the same way Zaldain is a cool ass dude he could have easily Rizzed this guy into getting the spot 100% probably coulda got this guy to give up some good information(and plugged his ears of course lol) He just started it off bad and it was only going to devolve to F bombs and attempts to collaboratively block Zaldain out of the spot at all you’re right about zaldain being willing to give that guy help and tips if he had moved but it just didn’t start off that way it wasn’t happening
Wow!!! What a brotherhood!! Sounds like you guys don’t live in the real world, find a real job!! High pressure situation? Sounds like Chris can’t handle the pressure.
When I watched Gussy leading an event one time I watched Chris hover in on him and started chipping away at his space. So since that day Chris doesn't get any respect from me. Sorry.
Sorry, regardless of the situation, I can’t see absolving Trait’s tone and delivery in that situation. She was completely condescending and disrespectful. That said, to the local anglers, why be out there when the pros are on the water!? I couldn’t do it.
Kind of sick of all the douche bags, pro or not. Bass fishermen or not. They can't even fish in Lake Erie without running over your lines or crossing your track forcing you to turn when you have Right of Way (if they even know what that means). Run in to some rude musky fisherman, too. I go out for peace and quiet, and if I'm lucky catch a few fish. or one. I try and stay away from everyone.
OMG Randy, it figures your on the wrong side of this. Unreal. I also know Zaldain and yes a great human. But is he? If he trolled up and asked politely, he would have had a better result. If your a good person, like ZalD then be a good person and ask respectfully. He didnt. Ya know Randy this stance you take here actually lets you lose a little credibility with me. Chris as a pro has to lead by example. He did not ask politely, omg randy wake up!!! Yes lesson learned, be polite, be a pro and ask like a pro.
A couple years back, I was practicing for a Toyota series event on the St. Lawrence river. I went up there a week early, and it was during a period of time when the elite series was also Fishing an event. I was fishing in goose Bay, and noticed an elite series angler fishing about 1000 yards away from me. I packed up my stuff and I left that bay completely. These guys are fishing for $100,000. They are fishing to feed their families. There needs to be more sportsmanship, ethics, and morals when it comes to competitive bass fishing.
Randy looks like everyone who is leaving a comment disagrees with you. Anyway if people want to really take care of there family is to have a real job. Instead of trying to make fishing as there job, there is fisherman that are better or just as good as a pro. Also I would never ask someone to leave a spot so I could fish it, or pull up close to them pro or no pro.
First one there gets the spot, pro or not. That guy works 40 hours a week just to have a few hours on the lake. Pro should be able to find another spot
Agree totally
How many lakes could you fish instead of the one that is having a professional fishing tournament on it
@@vladimirrienas5546well you can take your so called “pro” tournament and put it on a private lake and get off our public water and land if you wanna run a business and make a buck. We should cancel all tournaments so you hacks can get a life
@@vladimirrienas5546 I can fish whatever public lake i want. If i'm there fishing before you then you can wait or move on.
Great point
A semi driver will get paid every two weeks .
Agreed. They have to deal with all of the elements of fishing, including the pressure of local fisherman.
If a car is running i the fast lane blocking you from passing I guarantee you would be pissed off trying to do your job.
I wouldn't be defending those actions.
... 100% correct.
Agreed, he was not professional in that situation and I actually like the guy.
You didn't pay attention, both parties handled it wrong
@@mitchbennett6019 Selfish much...geez
Sadly, I think Randy is this kind of pro. SMH 😢
Absolutely right.
@@YakkinoutdoorsYou know….I NEVER used to think that about him. But, lately he’s been showing some true colors that I never thought he had.
Just because you are a pro angler you don’t own any part of the fishery.Other people like to fish also Chris was wrong the guy was there first
I disagree. The local didn’t run into Chris. Chris ran up on him and he didn’t ask the local angler either.
From what I saw there was plenty of room for both
@@mikelembke5121 PLENTY of room for certain. The local angler could have shared the point as well.
@@mikelembke5121 Not if you fish the point correctly from all angles.
My workplace isnt a public lake.....that said if a tournament angler came up on me and asked if he could share i might let him have it...but if there was attitude id tell him to suck it...
Exactly!
100%
Ditto. Hartwell is my home lake too.
Love those spotted bass!
Fishing Guides can be the same way think they own the lake.We all have to share the lake with everyone equally.
Im convinced that "professional tournaments" have outlived their usefulness for various reasons, this being one of them.
You have 7 graphs on your boat. Check some of the other 100 points that are just like this one.
Fellow kayaker here....same thoughts.
I'm this type: if someone is on a spot first, I find another one. But if I'M on a spot first, YOU go find another one!
The nerve to even ask … go find someplace else without asking or disturbing them.
Chris was wrong Randy, no matter how nice he is or how much you try to cover for him.
'professional' fisherman are nothing more than professional salesman.
Facts!
i have to disagree Randy.
Amen Brother! Actions have consequences..
Yep! Entitled manbabies!
Tournament fishing is a cancer.
Chris disrespected the guy first. Your argument holds no weight.
If a pro comes up to me and disrespects me right off the bat there is no way im letting someone run me off ,
Plus stop making the other guy sound so terrible!
First one to the spot gets it. End of discussion. I and A LOT of anglers couldn’t care less if someone is in a tournament. Find another spot.
I usually agree with ya, but you’re definitely wrong about this one, another reason why tournament bass fishing has gone to shit
Wow, that was a poor example of what NOT to do as a professional angler. It's totally Chris fault.
All he had to do is ask unbelievable!!
The hole thing could have been avoided if Chris would have kept going
This is the only thing I have ever disagreed with you on. If a weekend angler is fishing a spot and a pro pulls up on it, that's tough luck for the pro, as far as I am concerned. That's the downside of fishing tournaments on public waters.
poor sportsmanship on his part period
If zaldain would have asked and explained himself i probably would move but his arrogant attitude could have turned badly
The way he behaved was terrible
Disappointed in your thoughts oh bow down weekend angler the pro has the right away your wrong the same guy that wants co angler done
Man! I really wish you would have done lake maps earlier. Glad they are back though.
Because Chris didn’t even ask him anything he was wrong
IMHO.
God Bless Sir 7:00 10:15 8:11 7:41 7:44
There are a lot of times I don't agree with you on things Randy but you are spot on with this
Randy, I just want to add a couple other things.
Remember there are people that actually live on those waters there whole life, YOU are the guest not them, if you can’t play nice with the locals, then take your stupid competition somewhere else.
so glad you’re finally talking about this homie
i appreciate your history with this sort of interaction and i could 100% imagine that you would concede to the tournament angler.
Treat every situation the same way Zaldain is a cool ass dude he could have easily Rizzed this guy into getting the spot 100% probably coulda got this guy to give up some good information(and plugged his ears of course lol) He just started it off bad and it was only going to devolve to F bombs and attempts to collaboratively block Zaldain out of the spot at all
you’re right about zaldain being willing to give that guy help and tips if he had moved but it just didn’t start off that way it wasn’t happening
I have....never had an issue.
That was a extremely dick move from Chris. Honestly the pros this day and age is a joke….
