Robbie Rotten T72s have a reputation of losing turrets due to ammo being stowed pretty much anywhere, check pt. 2 of Chieftain’s T55 tour particularly when he’s in the loaders area.
You should just walk into tank museums and act like a tour guide. _Real tour guide shows up;_ "um...who tf are you?" _The_Chieftan:_ "Um, well you see," _runs away at full sprint_
I was posted to Bovington, E.T.W having spent a few weeks on Leopard 1A at PanzerLehr 93, Munster in 1966. The 'Leo 1' you point out as walk in to the 'Cold War' section is the tank we were to run trials on and it was a 'Leo 0' (prototype LS 2). There was only one hanger as the whole of the museum, TOG was a gate guard along with a WW1 APC, also when you walked in to the museum you were met with a mounted armoured knight.
As a Tank nut the view of a Panzer 2 from behind showing that it has a vision slit towards the rear from the chassis over the engine is something I never did see. Thank you so much for enlightening me.
Wish you could have done the tour without all the tourist in the background. Although it was fun watching those oh so very new British troops trying to figure out what your Calvary Stetson was, I think I could actually see gears turning in their heads.
Really looking forward to part two. I always look forward to your videos. As a scale model builder, your videos are invaluable for reference and inspiration. Thank you.
I have clear memories of watching a Scorpion plunging from around 20 feet into concrete and the crew being completely unharmed. Okay it was my action man (G.I, Joe UK version) but many happy hours were spent seeing if I could break it or my action man as a lad. My action man did in the end lose his arm but it took a large mower to do it 😊
I love our little walks together Chieftain :P I only wish you could spend more time talking about your personal thoughts and feelings surrounding the various vehicles as I always find your perspective as both a tanker and tank historian both interesting and entertaining. I do have to say though, this video only makes me want to visit the tank museum even more someday, although I suspect I'd find it too difficult to pry myself away from one vehicle and onto the next! Thanks for the video and please keep this sort of thing coming, I'd love to see a similar walk-through of Kubinka or other tank collections! :)
I reckon its past time I got back to that place. I was there with my wife back in the early 90s visiting Norfolk. It looks like night & day compared to what I remember. If I'd been there by myself I could've spent a week, just exploring back then.
very nice. please feel free to do these as you go around in your travels. frankly, even a short couple minutes of interesting displays at the archives you go to could be interesting. i have always maintained that the military has the best lawn ornaments. and some of the lawn ornaments and art displays at the archives i think would0 be interesting too.
A new Chieftain video! What a great way to start up a cold October Saturday! And the best part is yet to come - I caught a glimpse of the Tiger II just at the end. That would be an awesome choice for the next Hatch episode, wink wink ;)
I visited the museum for the first time in early August with my Dad and sister, and without a hitch my tour guide instincts kicked in. Thanks to World of Tanks I know the basics and backgrounds of most of the museum's tanks, except for the tinier details. I found the World War 1 and Afghanistan FOB exhibits particularly interesting; it was a real eye-opener seeing the Germans recoil in terror at the sight of a Mark I rumbling through their trench, but not as much as seeing the tank just metres from my head. As for the latter, it was like being in Afghanistan. I was amazed at the details put into the exhibit. Not just the vehicles, but the barracks, the shower, the latrine......it gave me an incredible sense of what life was like for the troops fighting over there. All that in the scorching sand and relentless sun must have not made it a very pleasant experience. The highlights were the Story of the Tank, the Assembly Line, World War II and without a shadow of a doubt, the live tank show and mock battle. It was my first time seeing a proper tank on the move. I've seen armoured cars and trucks moving around before, but never tanks. And what a treat it was to see the Leopard tear across the arena at 90 kmh, kicking up dust only the General Lee could dream of, if you get my meaning. I hope to go back real soon, and I mean this considering I travelled from Cork to my Dad's partner's home in Chipping Sodbury, and all the way down from there to Dorset, which was a damn long drive! Of course, next time I intend to take a more direct route. By the way, I didn't know you were Irish. That's awesome! But most importantly, thanks for the vidlog. Seeing this video brings back so many good memories it makes me wish I was back there, ogling the various tanks and fangirling over Tiger 131 and Fury, respectively. Looking forward to Part 2!
"Oh my God, is that a gap?" It is worth noting that this is a cruiser mk III with the retrofit to bring it to mk IV standard - adding the spaced armour to the turret. The dead giveaway is the cut off cornets on the turret front. The real mk IV doesn't have the gaps.
Chieftain, we really need to get you to the AAF Tank Museum in Danville, VA. It's such a fantastic place, and they're struggling just to put a roof on one of the buildings!
I think you did a video but I can't seem to find it so could you do a video on tanks camo and different markings like the triangle on a British tank and a ghost on German tanks. If you didn't already. Or some link video if they know what I'm talking about. Thanks kindly. As my name suggests I love wot and the history of tanks and anything to do with tanks.
Ridiculously late, but there is also another sherman DD in italy. It sunk during trials near Anzio and was recovered and restored in running order, it is now in the Museo di Piana delle Orme near Latina
The reason that they count the Soviet T-26's as part of the Vickers 6 tonne family - despite any deviation in the design - is that it was an official licence built version of the tank. It was one of the UK's most successful tanks for export until the advent of the Centurion, but even then beat that in numbers built.
The last time I was in the tank museum (aka Tank Mecca) 3 years ago, I know this leo quite well, we were with Equipment Trials Wing on automotive trials and demos for 5 month. It is a pity they did not fit a MTU engine simular to the Leo in to the Chieftain, I believe it was tried in the Jagd Chieftain (Chimera). Your museum trips are great when you are like myself unable visit museums which are abroad. The problem is my mind (27) writes cheques my body (72) is unable to cash.
what a coincidence, I was there just a week before :P except I got a tour guide telling us all sorts of stuff about everything aha, like that the Russians put concrete in certain parts of rivers so they could cross during the cold war, he mentioned that whilst we were at that tank with the huge snorkel, he was an absolute legend that guy :)
we were told you could flick a switch & set the outside on fire if anybody was climbing on top, for that rather strange grey armoured car like thing....
Considering your comment on the Firefly; which model is the best overall? Considering how late the A3 chassis models carried on after the war I would think it's that variety (A3E2, A3E8 e.t.c.)
Nick - re: "only surviving DD Sherman". That may be the only Sherman V DD, but there is a decently restored M4A1 DD (US version) in Italy (pulled out of Salerno Bay where the troops lost it while training for Opn Dragoon). There is also a huld of an M4A1 DD near Slapton Sands in the UK (raised tank lost from Tiger Force) and there was another one in France. The tank at Anniston is based on an M4A2E8 (Sherman IIIAY) which would have been a second generation of DD tank.
4:45 theres the moment I wanted to see The first operational tiger 131 herself She’s not the only operating tiger, the second is a king tiger numbered 233. It’s also the famous picture of a king tiger. But anyways, the superior of all tigers was 131, Germany had their best versions of their big cats ending up preserved and then used by their enemies. But none compared to what 131 had accomplished. Interesting fact, the turret of 131 is a modified turret from a Porsche tiger and mounted on a Henshel chassis.
Think you'll ever get around to covering more of the WWI tanks in Inside the Chieftain's Hatch episodes? Or the T-35 for that matter. Even though it'd take a few episodes just to get around the whole thing I'm fairly sure Kubinka has one in running condition, or at least as well as it could be expected to run.
You know, I had a Ferret at one time. Not long as I sold it for a profit. They were rather popular with civilians in the US as they were kind of entry level armored vehicles. Most people can not afford a M18 Hellcat, but most could muster up the cash for a Ferret. They have dried up though. Much harder to get a hold of one these days.
Mum always said. You know you're getting old. When soldiers look too young to be soldiers. Well. She actually said Cops and doctors. But it applies to soldiers as well.
One thing i like about these tours is getting the perspective from someone who is 6'5"
Hehe your short
Left his horse outside - hi ho silver ..
@@barnabydinosaurroadsafetyp3457 he doesn’t need a horse, he’s tall enough to see over a Bradley
It's also pretty rare to see a T72 with its turret still attached
Dieselhead ha ha ha
Dieselhead aye
Robbie Rotten T72s have a reputation of losing turrets due to ammo being stowed pretty much anywhere, check pt. 2 of Chieftain’s T55 tour particularly when he’s in the loaders area.
aqui1ifer ya and the turrets actually can fly up pretty high
lol
You should just walk into tank museums and act like a tour guide.
_Real tour guide shows up;_ "um...who tf are you?"
_The_Chieftan:_ "Um, well you see," _runs away at full sprint_
Tiger bren carrier would be sick
The Iron Armenian aka G.I. Haigs hai
"Oh look. A Tiger". So nonchalant! It's not just a Tiger. It's THE Tiger! Come on man! LOL
I thought the exact same thing 😂
Oh look a King Tiger

I would love to visit some day. It is a bit of a trip though. There is 5000 miles of water between me and the museum.
It's a great museum and if you go on the right day they do a show with all the tanks and stuff
It's worth a trip! Was there in 2013. I want to go back!
Im going to go from sydney i think it will be worth it
As a Tank nut the view of a Panzer 2 from behind showing that it has a vision slit towards the rear from the chassis over the engine is something I never did see.

Ha, that was funny. You saw them look right it. I am sure trying to figure out if they should be paying respects or just a guy with a good hat.
Indeed, the Stetson died for your sins.
PBRStreetGang More likely wondering who this yank was walking around with a camera talking to himself than a hat.
No, its diffidently the hat. Also, he's Irish.
Young squaddies, thinking: "Irish, funny hat and smells a bit like a Rupert"
Really looking forward to part two. I always look forward to your videos. As a scale model builder, your videos are invaluable for reference and inspiration. Thank you.
you need to do an unofficial high speed tour of a local hooters
For science right ?
and for scouting out a no map location 15vs15 tank battle in a upscale hooters restaurant
Time for a legit lemming train then
Hooters is so fucking stupid nowadays.
I love these tours. Thanks for this, Chief
*I love this kind of videos, I hope we will have part 2 and possibly more soon!*
*Keep on the good work.*
*_yes please!_*
I'm reassured to see the little padlock on the tank around 2:13...
Conhan D. *Hey mate!*
Theres already a part 2
11:50 "Actually I'll talk about TOG a little more later"
Inside the Chieftains Hatch TOG2 episode incoming???
Linkxsc Oh Jingles would like that
yea i love the tog 2
How about a tog 1
Linkxsc g
Please yes! The one the Challenger did was kinda boring, he didn't even go inside it, he just stood in the doorway wasn't pointed at things
wow, the museum has grown so much since i was a kid, must do a visit
I would binge watch high speed museum tours. Thanks!
Many thanks for the speed tour, one of these places that every tank enthusiast should go see!
Looks like a lot of fun. Glad you got the opportunity.
Thank you! I will never get to visit this and many other museums.
Thankyou Chief, very cool.
"TANKS" for the fast tour !
I have clear memories of watching a Scorpion plunging from around 20 feet into concrete and the crew being completely unharmed.
Okay it was my action man (G.I, Joe UK version) but many happy hours were spent seeing if I could break it or my action man as a lad.

Thanks for the video and please keep this sort of thing coming, I'd love to see a similar walk-through of Kubinka or other tank collections! :)
Maybe you could do a video for Kubinka as well.
One of the items on my bucket list is to visit Kubinka and visit the museums in the area
High speed tour video thumbnail being image of one of the slowest tanks in history is a point of amusement.
Nice tour and informative. Thanks for putting it up
Nice touch wearing your cavalry hat.
I remember trying to tell folk about Bovington and I think they told me I should wear a fox hat.
I reckon its past time I got back to that place.
I was there with my wife back in the early 90s visiting Norfolk.

Wow, I definitely need to go there some time!
Tell them your RUclips name, and they can probably fix you a spot in one of the halls.
me too
Excellent Mr.Moran & TTM. Loving the casually commenting wit abounding :) too funny yet apt too.
Whole time I'm watching the video, my inner self is yelling "NO COVERS INDOORS" at the squaddies.
They're not squaddies, they're pongoes.
And why do we call the army the pongoes? Because where ever the army goes, the pong goes.
Sigh, I haven't been there in over 20 years. Must get back to the UK for a visit sometime. Thx for the video.
Hi, thank you for your tour, for I'm not able to pay this great museum a visit...
A new Chieftain video! What a great way to start up a cold October Saturday!
And the best part is yet to come - I caught a glimpse of the Tiger II just at the end. That would be an awesome choice for the next Hatch episode, wink wink ;)
woohoo. more tanks for the people!
Thanks, this is one on my list to visit.
Ha! The side-eye at the end is gold.

Your wearing my Cavalry Stetson which was my units headgear.yep we also wore spurs that was fun with the chopper petals.
Chieftain, we really need to get you to the AAF Tank Museum in Danville, VA. It's such a fantastic place, and they're struggling just to put a roof on one of the buildings!
You know Chieftain, when you said "cute little Ferret",I instantly thought about the two "retro" toy Ferret ACs in a Hungarian auction site :)
There is also another Sherman DD in Italy at Piana delle Ombre museum in Latina. It was recovered from the sea
9:25 I still get that little bit of anger when I see a leo 1 because of War Thunder
When I saw little willie I knew this video was going to be good!
Ridiculously late, but there is also another sherman DD in italy. It sunk during trials near Anzio and was recovered and restored in running order, it is now in the Museo di Piana delle Orme near Latina

For the next Chieftain's hatch you could get WG have R.Lee Ermey as a guest star.
A snapshot of the scorpion fv101 would be awesome!

Nice job on the tour
Just to point out but it's a T-62 not Type 69.
Also interesting to hear you give such praise to the Scorpion/Scimitar. (In game pls when)
Now I look at the wheels, you're right
Kubinka next please! :)
thanks man, as things are I probably will never go there myself.
You need a gimbal for these tours.
Considering your comment on the Firefly; which model is the best overall? Considering how late the A3 chassis models carried on after the war I would think it's that variety (A3E2, A3E8 e.t.c.)
i wish i could visit the museum one day
there is another DD in italy in the museum "piana delle orme" close to Anzio, south of Rome!
A tour of the Panzermuseum Munster would be nice
He did that

you got them speed tours
Love your videos
Can you enter inside the tanks? I see you inside them in your videos. Is it just you who can or are some open to the public
Generally, no. On occasion one or two are opened, but usually they're 'look, but don't go inside'.
There's another DD Sherman in the Piana delle Orme Museum near Anzio too.
The Chieftain is the Chief!... Funny and interesting at one and the same time.
WOW Cromwell is from Polish Armor Division :) Nice :)
Can you do the Musée des Blindés (Museum of Armor) in Saumur, France? Home of the only ELC AMX in existence.
An outside the hatch vid (he wouldn't fit in it)
Yea go to the Musée des blindes it has some rare tanks
I knew he was going to mention Michael Collins when I saw that Peerless :')
in 2014 i was in France and near the gold or sword beach there was a DD Sherman on street as a monument.
4:45 theres the moment I wanted to see

Une belle plongée dans l'histoire .
2:46 "U WOT MATE"
Challengers reply: Yes, yes I do.
I love your hat!
cool,more video about tanks,please find Panther 2))
Best museum on the world😉
thx for the vid chieftain
briliant!
You should come visit the Gunfire Museum in Belgium.
Pls do the part 2 tomorrow.
You should do an episode about the Char B1...if you can find on in decent condition
Mordalfus Grea That would be fabulous and there's a running one in Saumur. There's a few tubes with it.
Think you'll ever get around to covering more of the WWI tanks in Inside the Chieftain's Hatch episodes? Or the T-35 for that matter. Actually Chieftain, the Medium Tank you mentioned is not Tier 1 but is Tier 2. Even more frustrating.
Are there any photos of the prototype DD Sherman you mentioned?
I really enjoyed it, but i did find myself wishing you'd turn the camera slower, i kept trying to look at everything.
Will there be new "inside the Cieftains Hatch" episodes from the Bovington Tank Museum?
i thought about that ages ago with the tracks look like hellmut
I wish you would do nothing but make tank videos for us everyday :)
hmm could you do a Challenger 2 video because this one seem happen to be lying around anyway
Or even a video on the Challenger.
Pretty cool!!!!-😎😎😎😎😎
Mum always said. You know you're getting old. When soldiers look too young to be soldiers. Well. She actually said Cops and doctors. But it applies to soldiers as well.
love your hat
Love the videos good sir!! How many stares did you get for wearing the cavalry hat?? :-)
My brother passed out of Bovington under Junior Leader's training.
There is a dd sherman in Italy too
Oh why didn't they give us a setter durp. Darn and the wheeled char looks cool.
