    Here's a tip I got from my plumber - when you're taking off the old toilet, after you turn the water off and flush the toilet, there will be very little left in the tank - bit there will be the normal amount still in the bottom of the bowl. This is always there, as it is trapped by the P or S bend in the connection to your sewer pipe. You can leave it in there, or try and get it out with a towel or small bucket etc but you still probably end up with some trapped in the P/S trap of the bowl when you remove it. Here's the trick - if you have a blower (doesn't have to be a large one) just immerse that in the water still in the bowl and you will blow that water back down the pipe, through the trap, and into the outlet. You have to put the blower down into the water so it's blowing water, not just air. But it works a treat and means when you remove the bowl there won't be water sloshing out.

    Very well done and inspirational. It was nice to find a RUclips video that did not make toilet removal look like a piece of cake. I just had all the same issues that you had plus installing a Evekare raised height back to the wall toilet in my 1982 build Dalfield home in WA. The plus was the original plumber/tiler obviously damaged the base of the toilet before installation and hid it by burying the base about 2 inches below the tile level and then concreting it in and around it. I needed both the angle grinder with the diamond blade plus the demolition hammer to chip away at the concrete below the floor level before I could remove it. The concrete was above the screw heads that held it to the floor so they were corroded to the point that even an impact driver wouldn't bite on their heads and I had to drill them out. It also explained why the toilet seems so very low to the floor and was so difficult to get up from. Then I had to build up the floor with concrete and floor leveller and retile that area before installing the new loo. They also did the same thing as with yours on the floor outlet. I did buy some Oatly Liquilock Toilet Removal Water Solidifier Absorbing Crystals on ebay to minimise water spills (it worked well) and a Pick Up Stix Toilet Installation and Removal Tool on Amazon to aid with picking up the very heavy Evekare unit (this also worked well) noting I am a 70 year old with psoriatic arthritis in my back and hips and I had two toilet to do; one down one to go. At least the other one sit higher with the screw head visible and clean so hopefully it isn't concreted in below the floor level and will be a little easier to remove.

    I have actually done this before myself!! It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be...and I too watched a few RUclips videos to try and figure it out. Wow, they really wanted to make sure that toilet was sealed! Eeeeeewwwww....toilet water! 😂 I can’t believe they concreted the toilet in! 😱 I thankfully only had the wax ring to deal with. I would have given up at the concrete. Haha...it is amazing the things you get excited about when you buy a house. Great video, Jo! Enjoy that beer...you definitely deserve it!! 😂😂

Strange how none of the furry massive was on hand to "observe" on that paticular job!!. You obviously did really well to do that especially without leaks etc. Great tip to mention Diamond Tips for the grinder on masonary. Brilliant

    I can dig it, gutted our stand alone guest toilet, even chiselled out old screed (Yeah, full gut), toilet was set on concrete too, old school.
    Used the tilers SDS drill with wide chisel blade while he went and got some stuff, lot less dust. Have used my 4" grinder to do small wall chases (WA, all solid brick walls inside here), very dusty. Great stuff, though I used a garbo bag to block the waste pipe while tiler did his stuff. Wax rings, only in USA.

    • @realisticrenovating
      @realisticrenovating  3 года назад

      Sounds like A LOT of work! Those SDS drills are the goods! I bought an ozito one once and absolutely killed it gutting a whole bathroom... and bunnings just gave me a new one when I took it back 😏 I like the idea of the grinder to do the wall chases too, I'm taking note!! Thanks 😎👍💪

Got exactly the same toilet from Bunnings and scratching ,my head about parts of the installation . The vid has helped though , thanks

    • @realisticrenovating

      Hey John, thanks for the feedback and glad it helped a little bit! If you're talking about the threaded piece it's to anchor it to the wall there's the bracket bit you attach to the wall and it kinda slots in to the back of the base unit above the s-trap... i couldn't get in behind there with the go pro and it was a fiddly nightmare to get in! I was laid on the floor wedged down the side of it swearing for a good section of that bit!!
