Lang Lang - Debussy: Children's Corner, L. 113: 1. Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum

- Lang Lang wowed tourists in the ‘City of Love’ on Valentine’s Day 2019 as he gave a unique album launch concert in Paris on a boat cruising along the Seine, performing pieces from his new album, Piano Book, such as the French classic ‘Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum’ by Claude Debussy.
With ‘Piano Book’, Lang Lang goes back to his first love - to the pieces that made him want to become a musician in the first place. “I dedicate this album to my wonderful piano students and all my friends around the world who love the piano as much as I do.” Rediscovering the most popular and accessible pieces written for learners and lovers of the piano, this album is a journey of inspiration, discovery, fantasy, and learning. ‘Piano Book’ gathers together many of the miniatures that generations of amateur pianists have grown up with. Lang Lang holds them in the highest regard, believing them to be classics in their own right. He wants to encourage piano students across the world to fully appreciate them.

This song is an enigma to me. When I play it it sounds nothing like this no matter how fast. It's all about emphasis on specific notes. It's so beautiful though.
You're comment is spot on. I have exactly the same problem. I tried so many things but it will never be this. Is frustrating because I am a above average player like fantasie and 3th part moonlight and arabesque Debussy.
@@mmdebruin I've pretty much mastered arabesque, i'm curious how the difficulty of fantasie compared?
@@Lyth the fantasie impromptu is a very hard piece with great pace and technique. A lot of 3/4 counts on the runs....but I like the middle part so much. I personally think it is much much harder then arabesque . The arabesque is just a beautiful piece. I also want to play Claire the lune .
@@mmdebruin A lot of people say im good at this piece. and arabesque was nice. but dont get me started on fantasie...
hmm probably the piano matters a lot too
the visual and audio effects make this so calming and relaxing, but yet so playful and energetic.
The scenery is so beautiful, the flowing river and clock tower with all those blinking lights by the bridge match the piece perfectly, making it more magnificent. Well done!
Lang Lang : " Il est Super Bon ! "
🙏🇨🇵 [You're the best ! ]
Fantastic performance by Lang Lang!
The movement of Lang Lang’s body is key to the passion he conveys through his playing. Thank you, Lang Lang.
I love it ❤the different pharses and dynamics😂
The best performance of doctor gradus ad parnassum..... It is colorful...Love it.
Perhaps, although it does not really follow the score unlike michalangeli - I think a performance in the middle of these two wound be the best
@@bananabanana2887 It is ok... I really enjoy his reading.
It is way to fast for me
Is it too fast for you to keep up with the melody lines? @@Cello-123
wonderful !!! a great composer !!! Debussy and Lang Lang goes back to his first love - to the pieces that made him want to become a musician in the first place.
Quel talent ce lang lang ! Il nous sort une version exceptionnelle du dr gradus ad parnassum .j adore la coda .pour moi une des meilleurs version avec celle de michelangeli.
It's the best version ever!
Wonderful! Now as I practice this I’m going to picture myself back on the boat on the Seine! What great imagery in this beautiful video.
I played this when I was 12 and won so many competitions with it. I wish I had video. I had no idea it was this fast, that's probably why I loved it, but daaang. I wish I had video back then.
Ok
@@sevi630 I played it backwards when I was 11 and won more competitions than @kittybrucknell from RUclips, I promise

You are great! I played the same thing too and still learning🙂

Lang Lang is a classical music phenomenon. I think the versatility with which he plays the piano and the way he conducts his career, Lang Lang is already a musician forever. He's making his history like the Beatles, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie... Just some of the names I can think of now. There's Ella, unforgettable! All of them, like Lang Lang have an eternal legacy. Generations will come and other musicians will quote him, say his name as an example, frequent environments where they can hear his music. Legacy is more extensive than we imagine, because we don't know where it ends.
I don!'t need to make mirabolical elucubations to discuss what Lang Lang means in the lives of people who admire him. He's the man! That's it.
Sometimes I ask myself: does Lang Lang belong to the music or does the music belong to Lang Lang? Meanwhile, I go on with Lang Lang drinking from this inexhaustible fountain of wisdom. Grateful.
WONDERFUL 💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝
I can also play this song! It’s beautiful.
All time best at it again.. Peaceful and graceful ...
太精彩了
hello fellow miracle musical fans
Hello, it seems that we all came here after they randomly shared this...
This song seems intimidating at first, but the notes are not really the main point. There are hidden passages and melodies that all need a voice. You need to put your soul into it to make it sound...amazing.
Wow that bass-like sound in 1:51
Ik
Yeah and it’s a note Lang Lang added that’s not on the score. The sheet music calls for the C one octave above what Lang Lang played
Oh yes I just listened to it 20 times in a row 🙂
The most beautiful song of all time, and I love the photography ❤❤❤

Bonjour ! Love own Experience : About the Children's Corner.. was around 13, playing it at home with all of my heart, (slowly that Lang Lang of course,) but was feeling myself in the Universe, crushed, body disapearing in the vibes of the cords like flying, just ONE within the great all. Phone rang, dad was speaking with a 1rst price of the Paris Conversatory de Paris. He heard me playing and said to dad : please shut up, let me hear her, this is so deep pure and beautiful.. Dad (great saxophonist) shut up. This moment of Pure Heart remains in me forever, thanks for the compliment of course, but i Know that True musicians have a great lil something more in their brain and heart that allows them to reach Highest Plans and this is the reward of great work. Always in Love, Awe and Respect. And thanks Lang Lang for spreading these vibes in the Air :-D music heals and the World need that so much.

I don’t get how everyone says this is a good rendition of the piece. It’s way too rough for me. Lang Lang tries to make everything sound as virtuosic as possible, when sometimes pieces need to sound gentle and small. Just my take
If you want to listen the best performance of this music, listen to Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. No facial theatrical scenes like these of Lang Lang, just pure Music.
Michelangeli's performance is so precise but damn boring... I like Lang Lang's much better.

Absolutely horrible and ridiculous. A pure show off performance. The high speed tempo completely destroys the melody, detail and nuance of Debussy `s masterpiece. The intended tempo is "moderement anime" - a moderate tempo between 112 - 126 bpm, much slower than this. Debussy would hate this - or laugh at it, in the best case.
Emotional and bland. No surprises there
Nothing special. I put on Michelangeli's version to purify me. Sorry.
Okay cool Mr. Monk

I think that everything is called special as long as the person performing the action thinks it is. If you disagree with me, I will not stop you, but I will ask you to do that privately.
