Some advice to those of you waiting on your results. Read all of the available information under the AncestryDNA Help and Tips. This information includes detailed descriptions of how the ethnicity estimate and approximate range is derived. Make sure you understand the geographic regions, admixtures for each region, typical natives and reference panels. Basic knowledge of history and migration patterns in your particular region is also important. All of this information will help to decipher your results once you receive them. Also, remember this is an estimate and that genealogy is an evolving science so stay tuned for updates.
This is all new to me. I am so anxious for my results! As of this writing, it is in Lab Processing now. Because my Mom left my biological father a year and a half after I was born, his side is a complete mystery to me. This information will help a lot!
I'm pretty impressed with ancestry dna. It helped my husband find and connect with family he never knew. His brothers and sisters( half siblings) were trying to find him for years. And ancestry has helped build that bridge. 😊 We're definitely grateful to God for having the opportunity to get a dna test. Thanks.
I recently sent in my test, and I'm now I am awaiting my results. My family is lucky enough that about 4 members have been collecting information and I've created our tree based on that info. I have quite large family majority of which are still alive.
Thank you for all that you do. I appreciate that there are people out there that care enough to be able to bring families together. I recently found out that I have two sisters out there that I didn't even know that I had. And yes, I'm impatiently awaiting my test results. I started my family tree and am already finding out a lot about my family. I just wanted to say thank you all for what you do.
Hi Leann, thank you for being part of the Ancestry Family. We are glad to hear that you are finding out a lot about your family. We look forward to hearing about what else you discover once your AncestryDNA results are ready.
On the 21st I got the email that it is in the lab processing process. I'm so excited waiting for the results, been checking my email for the last three days. So hope the results are in soon :D
Hi Crista, thanks for all of the great videos you create, I get so much information from them! My Mom and I have been doing our genealogy for over 35 years now. We only have a couple of brick walls (with English/Irish sounding names). We are back to the late-1700s (a few mid-1700s) or early 1800s on all the other lines and all seem to be pretty Anglo sounding names. My mother's DNA came back as 50% Scandinavian from Ancestry and 20% from FTDNA. We tested 3 of her aunts with Ancestry (2 paternal, 1 maternal) and they are only 10, 11 and 14% Scandinavian, respectively. I would like to talk to someone about what we consider to be very odd results. Who could I contact at Ancestry to help me understand this?
This sounds like a case of random inheritance at work. Your aunts would only share about 50% of their DNA with their full siblings (your parents). So, it is entirely possible for your aunts to have less of a particular ethnicity than you do. You can read the entire white paper from our science team about this here: www.ancestry.com/dna/resource/whitePaper/AncestryDNA-Ethnicity-White-Paper.pdf
I hope you guys start lab processing my DNA soon!!! I waited about 14 weeks the first time before y'all started lab process and they weren't able to read it so they made me do it again. they have the simple but, they haven't started lab process so I hope it doesn't as long as the first time... I'm getting so tired of waiting!
Pretty old video… The screen doesn’t look like that anymore and in fact is so confusing that my cousin thought the test have been received but in fact after four weeks it isn’t even showing up as received yet. Perhaps a new video with a current screenshot would help people understand the new timeline they are using.
So I activated my kit and sent out the dna but it’s almost 3weeks since the status remain the same ,it hasn’t been highlighted as “sample recieve processing “
My husband has recently taken done DNA test and I've been watching as many of these educational videos as possible. What I am wondering is even though my husband is on my tree and I only have the one tree. Should I start a separate tree of his own to attach his results to as he is adopted? In my tree I have listed his parents as adoptive and biological but the lines are showing as him being of his biological mother and adoptive father? Is this the correct way to do it or she he have a separate tree that the results are attached too showing only his biological information?
No need to start a new tree. For the purposes of working with DNA, go into your husband's profile page on your family tree. Click on EDIT | Edit Relationships. Then make sure that his biological parents are listed as the "preferred" parents so that it will reflect correctly for his genetics/DNA. If his biological father is unknown, just enter an "unknown father." Hope that makes sense!
Hello your video was helpful and interesting. I just sent my results off some days ago and am anxious for my results. Thanks for all the information you gave me. ☺️☺️

In the meantime, feel free to reach our support article here while you wait for your results: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Waiting-for-DNA-Results. We wish you the best with your research!
Uh oh. Just thought of something. I ordered 5 tests today to be shipped to 5 different relatives across the country from southern California to Maine to Florida. How do I activate those tests?
Are their DNA results on your account or on their own accounts? If they are not on your account, the first thing they need to do is go into their DNA Settings and share their test results with you. They need to invite you as an Editor. Once you get their results, you can link them to the family tree on your account. Then you need to go into your Tree Settings and share your tree with them. I automatically listed the female members by maiden names. It is very hard sometimes to find their maiden names, so it's nice to display them when you find them. The further back you go the less you find on the women's information. Sad but true. Just read over careful all information you get for little tidbits like locations, jobs, education, etc. to lead to what you need. Dig, dig, and dig more. Good luck to all in their search for family.
Hi RieRie! You do not. If you activate your DNA kit in the same account that you have your Ancestry subscription, you can just use the family tree that you already have. If you have activated your kit in a different account, you can share the DNA results with the account that has the subscription and then attach it to your existing tree there. Does that make sense?
Crista I Have someone who I manage their tree. They would like to help with it,but they dont have a account.Without giving her my account information, how can she help with her tree and be a editor, since she doesnt have a account???
I have purchased several AncestryDNA kits and passed them out to grandchildren, brother, cousin. I activated each one through my Ancestry.com account and gave the submitters access to the results. They received an email from AncestryDNA acknowledging this access but the two that clicked the link think they need my logon and password to MY Ancestry.com account to see the results. (There are no results yet, if that makes a difference.) I really don't want anyone accessing my personal account to get to their results. Is that how it really works?
If they do not currently have an Ancestry account, they would need to create a free, registered guest account in order to access their DNA results that you have shared with them on their own.
She will need to go into the SETTINGS on her DNA homepage and share the results to your account. You will need to be invited as an EDITOR in order for you to attach her results to your tree.
Hi Gail, and thanks for getting in touch. We are sorry to hear of the delay in your DNA results. We would be happy to help. Did you activate the DNA kit on your Ancestry account? If so, you would of been able to see the DNA results tracker in the DNA tab, this gives you updates on the DNA test as it passes through each stage of the Lab. If there has been no update, could you kindly contact us on either our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages via direct message there. We can then investigate this for you. We look forward to hearing from you.
Wow that's interesting 😃 I'm Mexican and waiting on mine. I didn't realize Puertorriqueños have a lot of Portuguese blood very unique mix of cultures you all have.
Where is that auto race photo from? My great uncle is Lewis Henry 'Lou' Moore, famous race car driver/builder/owner. His cars won 4-5 Indianapolis 500 races.
I am getting really excited!!! - I am currently waiting for a possible 2nd cousin once removed match. Her DNA is at the lab processing stage. I have been researching a possible unknown grandfather for about three years. This DNA result will prove, I hope, that my research theories are correct. My father was born out of wedlock and I recently found that he had a brother, also born out of wedlock. He, my uncle, died age four in 1911 and was never mentioned in the family. When I got his birth certificate his forenames included 'Vivis'. On researching the 'Vivis' name as a surname, I found that my unmarried grandmother had a 'Vivis' family from Switzerland, as a neighbour. I did my DNA test and expected half Irish and half Great Britain. Guess what? I am 45% Irish ( mother's side),, 23% Europe West,, 23% Scandinavia and only 5% Great Britain. This result has lead me to believe that a 'Vivis' from Switzerland is my paternal grandfather, hence, my quest to find a living 'Vivis' descendant and finding her. My 'Vivis' family, if proven, is on my public family tree ( Taylor Bennett Cooper Vivis ). It goes back to 1340 in Switzerland and includes 50+ descendants in Johnstown, Pa, USA. Do you think I am on the right track with my research? Regards, Victor Paul Taylor.
Sounds like you have taken all the correct steps. I'm excited to hear how your cousins test results add to your body of evidence for this genealogical discovery. (~Crista)
My family always talked about how we where Native American full blooded and we had large sets of twins that started withe my 4th generation grandpa Newton and Uncle Jasper and how they fought in civil war. Fount therm after ten years of researching and these men are white males confederate military now I know why my grandma and great grandmother eyes changed colors form green to blue and hazel. Still waiting on DNA test but very highly doubt any Native American in my blood at all. If anything West Indies,British,Irish, and Asian

AncestryDNA does not mail results to you. You receive an email when your results are ready. Then you login to Ancestry (using the same email you used when you activated the kit online) and your results are available online.
Hello Angel, we're really sorry to hear about this long delay. It does normally only take 6 -8 weeks from the date of activation and when your test is in the lab to get your results.
(~Crista)
my mom said she will not do the dna test, my dad is died, i did do my dna test, will my dna test do any good?
Your DNA test will be extremely helpful! You got 50% of your dad's DNA and 50% of your mom's DNA.
I hope it gets done before my birthday in Aug.
you got it : April 11th.
I’m waiting for my results to be ready they are in progress
My family always talked about how we where Native American full blooded and we had large sets of twins that started withe my 4th generation grandpa Newton and Uncle Jasper and how they fought in civil war. Fount therm after ten years of researching and these men are white males confederate military now I know why my grandma and great grandmother eyes changed colors form green to blue and hazel. Still waiting on DNA test but very highly doubt any Native American in my blood at all. If anything West Indies,British,Irish, and Asian

It finally moved over to lab processing on April 27th. Still there. Thanks for responding.

How long does it take to get the DNA results mailed to your house?
AncestryDNA does not mail results to you. You receive an email when your results are ready. Then you login to Ancestry (using the same email you used when you activated the kit online) and your results are available online.
If both of my grandmothers parents had significant amounts of Native American ancestry, will it show up on me more than likely? Thanks Crista!
Yes. If a grandparent is more than 50% Native, it will almost certainly show up in your DNA.
Accidentally forgot put plastic is ok?
my heritage is way better they took 3 weeks to get results and great accuracy..im still waiting 8 months later for ancestry to get my results.

You can't do a tree if you are adopted and know nothing about your family. So my tree is dormant right now.
