    So did our autumn ones night humidity levels have been 100% for weeks... And we used setanta that are meant to have good blight resistance... We had sarpo mira which were great last year and have the best blight resistance of all
    ... We are now saving potatoes for seed for next year so we have sarpo mira and una and other ones we want... It was impossible to get sarpo mira anywhere in June July this year... The seed potato makers patch have struggled the last 2 years... Our weather is blantently manipulated at this point

    I have that Creeping Oxalis weed with the yellow flowers all over my garden too. I keep digging it out, trying to get those tendril roots, but I too never succeed in removing it.

    Cardboard !! You have your solution for your Oxalis problem. P.S it is edible, very lemony, but none the less edible.

    I am very happy to say, how strong your new planner is. It arrived from Amazon yesterday, however they left it in the heavy rain. When I opened it I fear the worst. However it was in pristine condition, and a great read.

    I canned all of what was left of my potato crop. Just peeled them washed them really well, put raw into jars, added a half teaspoon of salt and bin bags and water bathed the jars for two hours.

    I think the weed with yellow flowers is likely to be a form of oxalis or creeping wood sorrel.
    It’s a pain and you need to get rid of the roots and prevent it from flowering to get rid of it.

    Hi Emma, I didn't get a close look at your weed but I believe it to be celandine. Hope that helps. Yes, ypu are right, birds love to tug out onion sets. Net them until the shoots start to grow and the roots should be firmly anchored in then. Happy growing 🙂

    I harvested my 2nd earlies (Charlotte) in July. Washed and stored them in woven sacks (Amazon) and I am still using them. Stored properly they keep just as well as main crop and they're still not spritting!

    That weed is oxalis (groumd sorrel) Emma, it’s widespread here in NZ. The more you pull it the more it grows and it has little bulb/corm things under the soil. I just put up with it and cover it with cardboard or weedmat if it gets too much. You can also pour boiling water over it but that might be tricky on the allotment 😂.

    • @CricketsBay
      @CricketsBay День назад +1

      Oxalis leaves and flowers are edible in small quantities. They're great added to salads.

    Hi. I know here in SA the crows love to pull out new seedlings. They walk along a line of seedlings and just pick them all. So it can be birds😂

  • @rrichards1210

    I don't know the name of that little weed, but it is a pest. I would cover that end with polythene for the winter to stop the growth. It may be best to sacrifice that end of the bed next spring and even summer and keep it covered to kill off the plant reserves. Better to get rid of it now or it will spreads and be a bigger issue in the future. Always lovely to see Einstein.

    Glad to see your sweet peas are still going strong. Mine are too & they have fragrance. Days are numbered tbh but any flowers like borage marjoram sweetpeas have a habit of lasting very well which looks great 🤩 and the pollinators benefit too My mahonia is coming into flower now which helps pollinators but that is a definite sign of autumn & a decline into winter 🤩

    At least you are getting the flowers and seedpods of the oxalis out. That will keep the quantity of the oxalis plants down.
