I use one of those plastic adjustable grippers pretty much daily. During my commute I’ll do 3-4 sets each for the the thumb flexor, the muscle between the thumb and index on the backside of the hand like you did, and the muscle on the pinky side of the palm. You just gotta be creative with them, and you can get an awesome pump with it. Already seeing strength and hand thickness gains from doing this for about a month so far.
Even if not being used for arm wrestling, they can still cause tremendous strength increases if done in specific motions. If you take a light tension in the grouper but then bend your hand 90 degrees to your forearm and then do your reps, it’s a totally different animal.
Spot on. I use grippers, finger stretchers, wrist rollers all those cheap gimmicky items for casuals but if used properly and often they do have real benefits
I just don't understand why grippers got a bad wrap by some (a lot) in the community. Thankfully it is getting better though.. If your already an armwrestler and you throw grippers into your training for the first time how can that armwrestler conclude that grippers don't work? Because they didn't beat Johnny boy at the Mike Gould classic? Or, if you have a guy who's been "only" training grippers and goes on the table for the first time ever after closing the 2.5 is he expecting to run through 5+ year veterans? Even 1 year armwrestlers will have a huge advantage..And when he gets handled he'll say "ah, grippers don't work!" . This is illogical. Hand grippers strengthen the hands and fingers plain and simple. Its can be a useful *accessory to one's training. Getting stronger anywhere on the body especially at the hands and fingers only strengthen the chain. In my opinion If you are lucky enough and trained enough to get to a high level with grippers your going to really need to be flat out strong to close 3+ 3.5+ grippers. You can't expect to beat guys with one strong link to your chain though! Even the 2.5 is a badarse gripper to close (very strong in my opinion), of course the internet would make everyone think otherwise.😅. I think armwrestlers can be intimidated by grippers at first. The last thing you want is for some 140lb kid (who has been training specifically with grippers for 2-3 years+ at this point) to close a number 2 for a few reps in front of you, hands you the gripper and you fail to get it once! Specificity at its finest. Grippers require a pretty specific set of strengths. With everything new you must practice to get better at it. You can give a gripper to a very very strong puller who is known to even have a strong hand but if they never practiced with them they will be humbled. This may have played out in various clubs through the years leaving bad tastes in the mouths of notable pullers then passing on this information. At the end of the day your closing two pieces of metal together seperated by a steel spring with your hand. This will make an aspect of your overall hand brutally strong. Thought I'd just leave a part of my opinion here. As always thanks for the tips! 💪🏼
You get it. Folks say using grippers is not good because when you close them, your wrist ends up backwards. Fine by me, I actually have handles I use for my wrist to strengthen them. My purpose of using these is to strengthen my hands and if you use them upside down the fingers, but what do I know 😉
Yes exactly even when you train handgripper normal way(bending wrist backwards)its still streghening wrist and hand. That means you have good defense against toproll so if you have strong finger grip wrist and flexor muscles in the forearm(All this is used in training with handgrippers)nobody will not able to take your fingers and toproll you...
Yep. Just look at Laletin. He is notorious for very strong grip. And match with Dave outside straps he had death grip on Dave's fingers causing lots of trouble.
My goal is to close a COC 3 by the end of 2023. I was able to close (not rep, just close) a number 2 recently, but a mild elbow injury set my training back. I'm not letting that stop me though! I'm still training, just with less weight and lighter grippers.
I have the same adjustable sprig one you have just saved me from purchasing the more expensive metal type so I'm going to try the donut rubber grips that I can carry around when I'm going for walks fits easily in the pocket thanks for sharing
Dude thats funny my wife got me those same grippers for christmas last year. They are great for the thumb thing, its cool to see you use them for the same thing. Makes me feel very validated lol!
Good video. I don't arm wrestle, but I do train grip. Captains of Crush grippers are my go-to. The best in the world in my opinion. I also do seated wrist curls and farmer's walks with dumbbells. To give me an additional grip challenge, I use Fat Gripz Pro sleeves on my dumbbells. A Facebook friend of mine is a professional arm wrestler. He's asked me for advice on grip training, and he's given me tips on some of his training. While I do not and will not arm wrestle, both disciplines (arm wrestling and grip) use the same muscles. So I do believe that cross training is beneficial. Let me put it this way. My pronator muscles are well developed, especially for a person who doesn't arm wrestle. So my advice to arm wrestlers is grip away!
@@firstforfun for my farmer's walk, I use 2 25lb dumbbells for a total of 50lbs. Though I could probably move up to 30 or 35lbs. For my wrist curls, I use a single 15lb dumbbell and a 10lb dumbbell, depending on which direction I'm curling my wrists. My advice for seated wrist curls when it comes to weight, less is more. Your flexor and extensor muscles are so small that you need to be careful not to over-train.
@@firstforfun for my COC gripper training, I do my working sets with a COC 1.5, which is rated at 167.5 lbs. For my strength sets, I use a COC 2 for 4-5 reps (1 set). The COC 2 is rated at 195lbs.
yeah sure it doesnt train your grip with bent wrist, but i have been using them for a few months now and it has improved my toproll containment sooooo much, my fingers do not break as easialy as before
Its a good gripper because you can go how lower you need to do your workout. i have one too but I'm gonna buy the Ironmind gripper which is like this and is very unique
I love em. But it's my 1st time using them seriously, went hard for awhile and then I couldn't workout for about a month. Everytime I did anything, my hands felt good and really strong, but would give out. Took a lot of time to recover. In short, carefully use them if ur a beginner like myself 😊
Greetings from Krtyiastan, in intro you says that "in armwrestling grippers are -----" what did you say. I can not understand this word. Thank yous sirs
If you want bigger thicker hands you have to work out those hand muscles same as any others. Hitting hard stuff like concrete with a heavy hammer is really good for your hand muscles, riser and hand/arm bone density as well.....
@@jodychocolatethunderwillia8957 do also try rubber bands for thumb exercises, like the super light and thin one you could rep out for 1 minute straight. It's something about the non-linear/gradual resistance of the band that makes it so much more organic than the grippers.
I noticed the banner behind you, you're from Oregon? I live in the Portland area and was hoping to find some people to train with. Know of any good gyms/groups that I could get involved with?

So hand grippers build amazing forearms regardless, now in the arm wrestling community yes they are an inferior workout compared to alot of other things you can do although it all depends on the intensity u choose
Grippers for me are only effective for thumb training, but that can easily be achieved even with elastic bands. The reason grippers dont transition very well for me is because its unrealistic strength. Even if you are able to close 350lb gripper the movement is very unidirectional and inward towards your middle palm, and we know your opponents hand will not fold to the size of a cup straw for you to be able to utilise your new strength. Armwrestling is way more about your ability to keep your muscles contracted in long matches, whether you are resisting your opponents cupping through pronation and posting with your hand held high or holding with your fingers his back pressure. Its all about these connection and their strength, and from there on you just use your body's weight. Best practice for me is just to grab a partner and go through all the little movements and changes that can happen in a real match.

All about STRONG HANDS 💪
If you curl your wrist in then do grippers it’s SO much harder and more beneficial compared to keeping your arm and wrist straight.
