Aleks, before you leave Washington, make sure you see the city once by night. The subway works late on Friday and Saturday nights, or perhaps you can get a drive-around from your hosts. When my aunt and uncle came for their first visit to the US, I took them, along with my mother, to Washington. All of them were most impressed with Washington by night: The US Capitol, the White House, the Washington, Lincoln, and Jefferson monuments. All very brightly lit. I was even impressed.

The National Gallery is one of the great art museums of the world. I've been there for a few hours...once. I barely began to see the collections. I've hoped to return to Washington one day to complete this museum, along with the Smithsonian museums, and the National Archives. When I was last in Washington, one could go to the Capitol building and just enter through any door and just wander around. You could just go to the White House without reservations most mornings. You could wander into any of the Smithsonian museums without reservations. Simpler times, 1990s and earlier.

One of my favorite museums in Washington D.C is the Museum of American History. You can spend all day in there with so many things to see for example dinosaur skeleton bones from long ago and much more things! :) Really great you are enjoying Washington D.C America's Capital :)
I haven't found any of the Smithsonian museums that could be "done" in anything less than three days (unless you just wanted to walk through without ever stopping to actually look closely at any exhibit).
I would have thought the dinosaur skeleton would have been at the museum of Natural History? But I agree that he should see the American History one too! (Would be great if he could see both)

I recommend the Smithsonian museum but it takes a full day at least to see it

The Smithsonian actually consists of 17 museums, galleries & a zoo. He has already been to 2 & has a 3rd planned so far… which one are you referring to? I would like him to also see the museum of Natural History or museum of American History… if he has time. 😊

Lemon thyme is a member of the mint family. You could use lemon thyme to make a lemony sauce for fish or ham or make tea from it. Next time brush your hand against thyme and smell it. Mint family members are usually aromatic, have square stems, and opposite leaves. Most people know about Mentha (peppermint and spearmint) and Salvia (sage) species, but there are over 230 genera and more than 7,000 species in the mint family. Look in your host family's pantry and you will find a number of these herbs in dried form in little spice jars.
