It is like a proper production, this is really high class and the fact that it is free is somewhat unbelievable!! Thank you for an excellent display of what RUclips can be if you put in the hard, long hours!
As someone who owns a 25 year old Disovery 2 TD5 (the best of the LR engines).and does many many remote adventures throughout Australia. You can always fix a landrover and it will always get you home. They are the very best of vehicles and I am truly loving your series brake downs n all adventure it highlights how simple they are to fix with basic bush machines 😉 trip of a life time
44:40 when blowing out filters blow from the inside out, at least at first, otherwise you may just be imbedding some dust deeper in rather than pushing it out. Great series!
lol in our defence all we covered up was Rich saying he could swap out the 300tdi sensor for the Puma one in the green landy to test, which wasn’t compatible so wasn’t ever done.
Such a good trip ! Agree with some comments to tell : it's the best travel video since a long time !!! Almost stock Defender without too much accessories. Mechanic skills & road repairs. That's all the spirit Land Rover. Can't wait the next one. Best Regards from a Swiss Defender owner.
I travelled with my folks in Southern Africa for many years in two 300 Tdi's. We went eveywhere together in them. Thank you for a great show, it made me super nostalgic. Great to see some adventurers swinging spanners in Africa. This is genuinely what its like overlanding in Old Landrovers.
This video should be number 1 on the RUclips trending list! Loved the whole video never needed to fast forward or skip a single time. Friends the view and your rovers what else could a man want for an adventure.
Ex TD5 owner too, god those engines are just total lemons if you get a bad one. The rest of the car was brilliant though, and I will own another. Just not with that motor.
You guys are awesome. There's nothing best than have your friends along the road and have fun no matter what goes wrong with the vehicle. Keep travelling wherever you are. Greetings from Kazakhstan
Nothing like traveling to a completely unfamiliar continent to drive sketchy vehicles through some terrible conditions with a group of guys to see the scenery. Well played Rich.
1:05:50 That's The storyline of any random road trip with a Landy 😂. You break the bank in the gas station and the parts store, drive through some terrain most people can't navigate on foot, pul a couple of Toyotas out of a ditch, fix 2/3 of the damn thing on the side of the road, get a sore ass from all the vibration and the nice comfy seats and still somehow you knowingly decide to do all that again 😅😅😅 and again 😂😂😂
This is a great series! I mean how much fun is it to take vehicles that half of the off-road world see as unreliable and take them cross country. You get to play with trucks, see sites, and see creatures that you may never get to see again. Good fun!
I’ve been waiting for this episode! Absolutely love this series and the landys! You guys rock. It’s awesome seeing how determined and handy you all are to keep them going. These actually are good trucks once someone who knows what they are doing fully goes through them, and you use them as intended!
Pro Tip, don't park in the middle of a dirt road with three cards spanning the entire width! Thats bad news waiting to happe :D Awesome video guys! Brings back memories of driving there as a youngster in a red G-wagon!
I noticed the same thing and wondered if anyone else did. Would recommend blowing air from the clean side of the filter to the dirty side of the filter. That way dust blows out of the filter without having to travel all the way through the filter. It’ll perform better and last longer this way.
I've always found it easiest to reverse bleed the clutch from the slave cylinder. You just use a traditional pumpy oil can filled with clutch fluid with a bit of hose connected to the bleed nipple on the slave. Turns it into a 1 person job!
Exceptional piece of film! Love able but slightly flaky vehicles, good buddies traveling through exotic countries. What an adventure?! Thank you. I know how much time and effort must have gone into making this. Not jealous at all! 😂Incredible memories for sure.
Really enjoying this, l have driven TD landys they are fantastic…. When they are working, no way known l would ever buy one. Looking forward to episode 3.
Thermostat is a separate plastic item on a TD5 not in the head - The piece they are missing for the rad fan shroud is an intermediate plastic frame the attaches to the radiator using the two holes in the rad and two clips at the bottom, and lastly if that machine is supposed to have been a "ready for sale" Land Rover the place that sold it needs to have a serious chat with themselves.....
For real man, I thought he said that it's inspected by that dealer(?) or something. It is a consignment but shouldn't they at least check it a little bit before giving it to the costumer. Problems right from the get go.
@@HPLP85 Well said. I have now 340k on mine, including a lot of towing and off-roading, without any major engine issues at all. That Trip to Brittannica Restorations would also be stuff for a really interesting video!
Im a long time follower of the channel and I cannot express how strange it is to see Rich driving a car I have seen for sale in my town, using our local shitty yellow tool sets, and drinking black label next to the road. Lol
Unfortunately you hit a common bird / raptor to that area... Pale Chanting Goshawk... They predate on other birds, snakes, rodents and small mammals. 😛
Great job guys, These two episodes can hold up with the Grand Tour any day! Love the roadside fixes. Hopefully you will have these Rovers at a car show in Dunville next year!
Little trick with Td5 cooling systems. When you need to bleed the system, you need raise the header tank above the height of the engine by 100 mm (4 inches) with the engine running and the cap removed because, believe it or not, air gets trapped in there and causes all sorts of issues.
Watching the video at the moment, not sure if your aware that the ecu controls what the temp gauge displays on the Td5 , normally when the gauge fluctuates & goes into limp mode it's a bad earth at the ecu / behind the expansion bottle on
Brilliant episodes, love it . I've ŵorked on landrovers and toyota's for 40 years and they are very good trucks and just as bad as each other. And can be fixed èasy in the bush where you modern trucks you need a tow truck and parts are very easy to get for landrovers there are 2 types of td5 10p And a 15 p engines . Keep up the great videos. Looking forward to the next episodes
I lived there on the Skeleton Coast where the Orange River, ( border to the south with South Africa )...dumps into the Atlantic. Go to the beach, walk north, look for raw diamonds on the surface of the sand. Watch for the DeBeers guard jeep with dogs and full-auto weapons. Best to look like a polite semi-lost tourist. The diamond cutters in Soweto, ( Johannesburg slum ) will give you good job and fair price. Namibian girls are indeed most beautiful.
the termite mounds that you see are basically the chimney for an air conditioning system for the rest of the nest which is underground and can be absolutely massive.
The background sounds especially on the landscape b roll is fantastic!! And Rich, your content is fire lately!!!! Oh, and that video with zip tie was awesome 👍😎
Had the same problem with my headlight switch blowing on my Defender 110 200tdi. I fixed it by putting in a lighting relay, because they didn't have any in the 200tdi and early 300tdi👍
Just found your channel & really enjoy it, and your in Dunnville I'm not far, I'm just in Guelph! Soon as I saw the Defender not starting I was saying it's the shutoff switch. Think you have about as many problems with those trucks as I do with my old GMC 6.5 diesel!! Anyway loving the videos! 👍
So, this is basically exactly like like every Land Rover "trip" I have ever tagged along on. I was usually the odd man out with my Toyota, but it was always the same. The videos and the photos afterwards were always, oh.. here is where we had to stop and fix this. Here is where it overheated. At the end of every day on the tracks, the LR guys all had their hoods up and were crawling under their rigs looking for something. I felt obligated to open my own hood to check if the engine was still there. The LRs mostly always got them to the end, but holy crap did they need a lot of maintenance. Though, it seemed to me, for the LR folks, that was most of the fun.
The main roadways between cities in Namibia are so quiet. Could be from a combination of being sparsely populated, good coming direct to ports rather than by transport truck, and the financial barriers of owning a vehicle.
An epic episode across great destinations, good video. I guess the only way a land-rover can make through such raids and distances is with the mechanics nearby 😂😂
This is in my opinion the best video I have ever seen on RUclips.....absolutely epic journey. Thanks DEBOSS you knocked it out of the park

Bad practice at 44:34. He is pushing the particles deeper in the filter media by blowing from outside toward inside.

Always add some car-oil on the rubber seal of the air-filter . . .it traps all dust and seals better.
