Where David Tenant was the one the girls fawned over, Matt Smith was the one that became the doctor of the children, much like Tom Baker before him, and Matt was magnificent with the kiddos in public appearances. Matt Smith's first couple seasons are quite amazing. He is my favorite doctor. Not my first. My first was actually Paul McGann, but Matt was "my" doctor.
The time lords aren't necesarilly bad, but they act as the "elite" of Gallifreyans. The problem with this spceific incarnation of the time lords is that they are at the period prior to the end of the biggest war of the universe (and they are loosing). They were kinda megalomaniacs before, but the idea of loosing is what, imo, pushes them over the edge. Most of them arent either like the Doctor, nor Rassilon or the Master. Just regular Gallifreyan folks that got a "nobility title" and everything that comes with it.
that last monologue before he saved wilf might be my favourite in the show, man i’ve missed tennant, but i’m glad you’re onto smith now, it’s gonna be funny to watch you guys react to how goofy he is in this after watching him in hotd 😂😂
When this first aired I think everyone was concerned on how Matt Smith would follow in Tennant’s footsteps, he had big shoes to fill. All I can say is, you won’t be disappointed. He makes the doctor his own and being his main first acting role no one knew how he would be! Enjoy lads!!
Fun Trivia..(Cause I love that stuff)... This was also the change over of production teams... With a new show runner coming in, Stephen Moffat (The guy behind Blink, The Empty Child and others). So for the regeneration, Russell T only wrote up to the point of change, and then had incoming showrunner Stephen to write the rest.
Love the ending to this episode with David Tennant's Doctor going back to say goodbye to everyone, really wraps his whole era up nicely. I fucking love Matt Smith's Doctor, and I'm sure you guys will too!
There is a Lockdown Choir of this regeneration song (Vale Decem). An international group of hundreds of people who sent in recordings and videos. Murray Gold’s music is amazing.
ive been waiting for this 🥰🥰🥰 when i first watched this and David was doing his speech after the 4 knocks i actually thought he was hamming it up... then i realized he was serious now i cry every time
I really like that you two have just accepted Matt Smith, lots of people including myself took a wile to get use to him because everyone loved Tennant but I felt re-watching the show for me Smith and Tennant are very smilier in there personalities and the way they play the doctor, I think the old woman that Wilfred is speaking to thought out the two episodes is suppose to be the doctors mum. great reaction.
Omg it's going to be so interesting to see your guys' reaction to Matt Smith as the Doctor after knowing him primarily as Daemon! All the reactions up until HOTD have been people seeing him go from the Doctor to Daemon. So this will be fun lol. I hope you guys like the 11th Doctor! He's my Doctor and also has my favorite seasons. Thanks for the reactions!
Matt Smith was my favourite for a Looooong time. He has a face that’s young but old at the same time, it was odd (but perfect), but he’s definitely grown into it now for sure. Yet another 10/10 reaction regardless. Can’t wait for your discussion video on 10.
Did you see Matt Smith Spit on the TARDIS console, as the explosions happen, and did you hear Matt say as he changed say "And Still not Ginger," this is because Billie Piper ( Rose )married Chris Evans a radio DJ who was ginger haired, it didn't last long. It's a running gag for the next regenerations. Also David Tennant said it on the Siccarac space ship in his first episode Xmas special when he comes out of the TARDIS to fight the leader with the sword..Great reaction guys.
It's well known at the time , 10th doctor comes out of the Tardis on board the space ship in the Xmas ep ,and turns to Rose and says * tell me am I ginger? And Rose looks and says * no. And 10th doctor replies "arh I wanted to be ginger" It was a joke at the time, as Billie Piper had been married to Ginger guy.
David Tennant was actually supposed to go for one more year, so they could introduce the new companion in the next episode and then have him change after that. But he left early.
Doing a two parter is different to doing a one parter. A cliffhanger is needed and Doctor Who has always loved cliffhangers. Classic Who was based on them. The Waters of Mars was standalone and could easily have been extended into a full length feature film which would have been a lot better than much that we get given today. These two episodes were really about seeing Tennant shine with a bit of bombast thrown in. It worked and James Bond turning up was a lot of fun.
Time Lords are basically the biggest jerks in space. There are many depictions of Time Lords in the classic series. Over 90 percent of the portrayals show them as great cosmic mule holes.
Yeah, 'that meme', it will never be the same when you use that, because now you know the weight it caries. But that it got so famous by non-Whovians is solely because Bernard Cribbens's acting skills. Also the fact that it was Wilf that caused the death of The Doctor, made it lesser hard, because who can hate Wilf?! But the music, though, adding with David's "I don't want to go" makes more emotional. But thank goodness Matt Smith is the ointment that soothes the wound. You boys are so ready for the next season, the next Doctor, the next companion, and I'm ready for your reactions to it.
The popularity of Wilf Mott lies entirely with Bernard Cribbens. He was one of the most famous, well-loved and popular entertainers on British television since the 1960s. How could anyone not have liked Wilf Mott?
Random fact that may not be so fun: there’s a timeline out there where the doctor lets Wilfred die here and he becomes “the timelord victorious” and basically rules the entire universe. A bit of it is seen in the comic “four doctors”
This next season is where Doctor Who ramps up. Matt Smith is definitely a fan favorite. It's where the show stops being "By Brits for Brits" and becomes the spearhead of Globalism. Meaning the show is made to appeal to a broader world audience. Looking forward to your reactions.
Yeah David Tenant really defined the modern best way we approach the Doctor, more have come, but Davids performance is exemplary, cool reaction guys hope you get to also enjoy Matt Smith from here on in, but my heart is for Tenant
Sadly, you have reached the end of the run of one of the best-loved Doctors in the history of the show. Happily, you are also at the beginning of the run of one of the best-loved Doctors in the history of the show. Yes, there's quite a bit of debate over which is better, but most of it is good-natured in spirit.

A lot of people theorize that the mysterious lady was the doctors mother but I reckon its his wife and mother of his children as we know hes a grandfather, also the way he looked/panned over to donna as a bride when Wilf asked him who she was. But it was left intentionally ambiguous by Russel. Couldve even been Romana.
In Russel T Davies book... he has said although he did deliberately keep it ambiguous... he wrote it as if it's his mother... But now... knowing what we do.... Is it possibly Tecteun?
The main thing I really didn’t like was having Martha marry Mickey. He doesn’t seem like he would be her type. Plus previously she had been engaged to the Doctor character from her last story as a regular. It is even mentioned in the Sontaran Stratagem.
This will be a controversial opinion this was one of my least favourite regenerations of the Doctor i've seen The Doctor regenerated 9 times before Tennant it was always taken as the norm because when a Time Lord dies or when their body wears out or badly injured they regenerate the way The Doctor handled this was out of character and alittle too melo-dramatic i felt he took it like a big sook blowing up the TARDIS cool special effects but it was unnessary Matt Smth was my semi-favourite but the next guy after him is my favourite and the best Doctor out of the whole of NuWho in my opinion. The goodbyes to all the companions who travelled with that Doctor kind of dragged abit all i could think of was come on get on with it insteas of doing that what they could have done was The Doctor wondering around the console and flashbacking to the companions rather than doing that then regenerated normally but i understand because they were changing production staff but still. I also find it strange when The Doctor falls off the ship from a great height all the way down to the ground with a big thud and that didn't trigger a regeneration then as what caused The Fourth Doctor to regenerate was falling off from a great height from a radio telescope. Wilfred was great i wish they made him a regular companion sadly the actor Bernard Cribbins passed away just last year. Why The Master wanted everyone to look like him well he was vain.
Series sadly went downhill from here :( But at least this episode wasn't quite the end of David Tennant in the show and we have three brand new episodes with him, Donna and even Wilf coming this year :)
Matt Smith is such a good doctor. Never stands on David's toes and is his own doctor.
Agreed, he's just so charming and adds an almost whimiscal tone, while still keeping darkness at times@@OpenMawProductions
Fun fact.
Wilfred's speech (not seen in this reaction) about his time in the military is the actor genuinely recalling his own experiences
The time lords aren't necesarilly bad, but they act as the "elite" of Gallifreyans. I love Wilfred! DT and Georgia named one of their kids after him.
This remains my favorite era of the show.
I really like David Tennant but I really really like Matt Smith as the Doctor. Enjoy. 🙂
Nope. 12 is best boy. Those eyebrows, you could take bottle tops off with them.
@@mashuu2301Matt was peak but Peter was just sublime that it’s practically so close to say who is better.
Oh yes, David and Peter for me!❤

Tennant being my favourite doctor im always sad when i have to go from this episode to the next so now im looking forward to seasons 8 and 9
Matt is my NuWho Doctor but Tennant is wonderful too. They are different, and that was a plus for me
Billie Piper is in an interview at a Comic con. Recently. Also Bernard Cribbins was in Dalek Invasion Earth 2150ad.
Time Lords are basically the biggest jerks in space. There are many depictions of Time Lords in the classic series. Over 90 percent of the portrayals show them as great cosmic mule holes.

Because he was joking about Radiation , in the hospital when they first met!
Matt Smith’s doctor story gets really convoluted, but it’s worth it. David Tennant probably had the best episodes, but I think Matt Smith is more fun.
