Apparently there’s a stand I missed. Disregard that from the criticisms. Overall view is the same. Enjoy your Sunday.
So some people broke the knees. In emgos review he states that the knees are designed to be bent at the upper knee joint first as there is a little slot or else you could break it...
I love the amount of accessories on this thing. I won’t be buying it for the price, let alone since I have 2 primes I am already very pleased with. If the trailer/accessories would have been sold separately I would definitely have consider that! I hope that will happen some time in the future: more play-fun with extra accessories! :)
thank god u let me know that they can keep this mack that transformation would make me not happy at all lol
It's not a proper stand and it barely supports the weight.
@@Ram_Ozymandias some copies are coming broke out the box, the lower knee joint was warped straight out the box on mine, I had even watched every video I could get my hands on to see how to make sure the knees stay ok so I didn't do anything to break them
The mess in truck mode and the backpack in bot mode really kill it for me. I waited until all were out, ms, te, mp44, and I chose te-01.
Same here. I simply can't get around that backpack. That and the price tags are major turn offs for me.
I think they made the truck kind of realistic
@@CosmicOneX yes, he has a backpack but not a lunar rover accordion folded onto his back. It's unnaturally large . A $400 masterpiece shouldn't have this sacrificial kibble.
@@CosmicOneX I'm glad it works for you. It doesn't work for me. I do like the slender stature of mp44 from the front. If TE adjusted the front silhouette to match that, and kept their engineering with the tidy backpack, plus nice paint, I think we'd have the perfect prime.
@@CosmicOneX Yes we will, dont you worry about that.
Guess whos gonna be MP-50? My guess is Powermaster Optimus Prime, since all you do is mod him slightly in truck mode and make a trailer he can combine with and presto, ANOTHER Optimus in the jungle called Masterpiece
I paid $320 but didn't get my 20% off Arby's voucher. Not going to complain :D
As for the price. Considering MP10 sells for $150 a $175 price tag would only be $25 more than that for all the additional paint, accessories, hardware, articulation etc.
I'd rather have paid $175, believe me and I do think $450 is crazy but I'd say a good price would be more around $250 than $175. $100 more than MP-10
mcart Same. I had to look up the price I paid for my Takara ($180) and Hasbro ($160) MP-10’s. So I don’t think MP-44 can possibly be $150-$175. MP-36 is $240, and BW Megatron was $320. FansToys Dinobots are $200 and have no accessories. So I think $350 is completely within reason.
Id say at most this guy should have been $250-300.
Great figure, but just too much for what it is. Feels almost like a 3p price to me.
I’d say he’s well worth the price. After breaking him down, it’s easy to see the marvels of engineering. At roughly 459 individual parts, that comes out to a dollar a part. Plus thos factory workers have to be trained to put the thing together. I’m glad I bought two.
539
@@539-s3e your breakdowns are legendary mate! Not had the time to check this latest one out yet but I will track it down. Oh yes!
mcart Yes sir. That breakdown took me a couple hours. Of course, at the end of the day, it's all about what that person values Prime at. Like I've said in the forums, I'd hate to be in a factory putting him together day in and day out.
Next breakdown will be Bumblebee when he releases.
Fancy seeing you here by the way.
539
I agree, so glad i didnt buy him. He is super poseable, but to make that happen i feel he lacks in the looks department, his back is a mess, his shoulders are messy. Not worth 450 to me, i rather buy terminus giganticus for that money
“Jesus take the wheel!” @21:40 LOL
Sunset Rider tooooo funny! 😂
I been waiting for this review,it's a beautiful piece, not to sound cheap but I can't do the price for this,I'm still good with the M.P 10,thanks for the review.
I have many official MPs, and I would much rather spend money on the official product, but this is just asking too much. If I paid $450 for it, I wouldn't be able to enjoy it as part of my collection, it would always have a stigma attached to it. I would just look at it sitting there in my display case mocking me, like hearing a heartbeat under the floorboards.
I might consider buying a KO of this at some point. The guilt I would feel from spending $450 on a somewhat unneccessary prime is much greater than the guilt I would feel from buying a KO.
Patience and wait for the reissue, or if something more interesting shows up before that. Otherwise you will be buying an expensive displaypiece that has too many acceptable flaws for that price range
Nice reference 😂
Final thoughts; You Do recommend this product but you cannot Justify the price tag.
I completely agree.
I'm a huge Optimus Prime shill so I got this figure despite the price, I went from "happy sticking with MP-10" to "I need MP-44 as the months went on. I might even pick up OP Leader someday
37:55 isn't the display stand the thing from the repair bay? You can take out that top portion and it will have a notch to put Optimus on to do a flying pose with that jet pack.
lanoche Yes I belive you are right. I think I have seen that in some promotional pictures

Okay I have to ask. What with everyone and Cookie Monster lately?
@@Pika817 Haslab tried to crowdfund a 1:1 scale cookie monster and it failed.
lanoche
Oh no. I heard about the crowdfund after it was over but didn’t know the result. I would have totally bought two of those.
They need to advertise this stuff better!!!
You forgot the first step of the transformation sequence. Pour yourself a shot and buckle up.
Definitely origami Prime. It so hard to compare to the venerable Mp10 which has been our standard for so long it's ingrained as "our Prime".
DAMNIT Bubbeh.! Just when I was about fall asleep. This should be interesting.
EDIT: The funny part to me is Bubbeh had to transform it to Vehicle mode to ship it back to the owner lol.
Takara: EXECUTE ORDER MP-44!
I knew Bobby’s verdict the fact that he got a loner. Price tag is a precedent I’m not willing to support. It also influences 3rd party to raise their prices (which they are)
Nice review. I've always liked the bulkiness of Magic Squares's Prime. I agree Takara's the best out there but I'm satisfied with MS01. All the Primes have their flaws but for the price, this guy should be almost PERFECT. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
We forget that MP-10 was $299 when imported at US MSRP. It wasn't until the Hasbro release when it was sub $200. I own this figure and am perfectly happy with it. Glad to see someone having an honest take on what value is vs worth.
Next to MS-01, MP-44 looks like he's constantly sucking in his belly for the photo to look like he's really in shape.
Thanks very much for this review Bobby, and yes, it is not worth $450, that is why I am going for the TE with the g1 style head.
Wait, there was an Arby's coupon that I missed?
As a portly, nerdy gentleman, I would love to transform him while eating a beef and cheddar sandwich. The yellow cheddar sauce and red catalina sauce that he would be covered in would compliment his already beautiful color palette.
Well, off to Arby's I go.....
It's an amazing figure and piece of toy-engineering, but what drew me to the Masterpiece line was the realistic/licenced alt-forms and the robot forms with just enough detail to make it believable while still being show-accurate and this 'toy' is really leaning against those borders.
And that price, whoo! And I was waiting for MP-10 to drop below 100, because I want to actually play with my Transformers without fear of breaking a small fortune. At MP-44's price I expected a 18 karat gold matrix and an MP Elita-One, not an over-engineered and undersized MP-01 with a big gray box.
If you break the antenna on the “NEVER!” Head then it will look even better!
Yeah!!!!! 😄
What a reasonably grounded review this is.
Great review as always. I feel just like you do except I do not feel like he is the best prime out there. I still like MP-10 as my prime. The nice thing about MP-10 is that he is a nope e combo of toon and toy and...he transforms much like the cartoon transformation. You could do stop motion transformation of MP-10 and almost mimic G1 cartoon transformation. MP-44 looks nothing like this. I also feel like new prime looks scrawny next to Megatron 2.0, with MP-10 looking a better strength match. New does have better articulation but overall not worth the upgrade to me.
Then as Bobby says...you win!
I think the reason that MP44 looks better than MS is because of three things. 1. Shape of the parts are tapered on MP44 vs blocks on Magic Square. This is much more toon accurate. 2. The overall proportions are more accurate. 3. The figure is fully painted.
Ton achieve these three things increases the cost exponentially. Look at MP44 in truck vs bot mode. There are barely any parts that are visible in one mode to the other. This increases the parts counts dramatically. This has to happen because you can’t put together tapered parts cleanly, so the figure needs to invert itself. The engineering is quite amazing.
So in regards to cost, I understand why this cost so much. However, maybe that’s not what the consumer is looking for.
So I want to talk about the upcoming Menasors...is it safe to say that all 3 3rd party versions are going to have parts forming arms that are 2 pieces per arm? Not seeing how X transbots(since they're the only ones with the arm bots out) split in two to form the arms? What do you think??
The clear adapter is for the Dinobot stand . You can also use the armature from the repair drone as another stand .
That hunchback makes this a complete no-deal.
People will probably hate you now with saying he trashes the TE. Can’t wait for the salt.
Edit: I like all 3 by the way but the defense force is ridiculous.
Really nice review overall though. The one I waited for the most.
Mp 44 is a better figure but not worth the price
Gabriele Traini I’m definitely with you on the price! Still want to get him someday.
@@gabrieletraini3849 When people say it's not worth the price, like Skullface said, it is subjective. I don't think a watch should be cost 5K, and yet those exist. It's an expensive piece without a doubt, but it is by far also the best looking version of Prime on the market. Worth is in the eye of the beholder.
@@RBrown803 watches and action figure are not the same, they have completely different consumer Base. People who buy 5k watch are in a position where 5k isn't a big deal, it's quite average for high end watch. Mp 44 is expensive even for mp collectors. And yes worth is in the eye of the beholder, and to most eyes it's expensive, if the price is reasonable to you then more power to you, but to the general fan Base, it's an uncalled price increase that promotes people to go out of their way to buy the ko
@@atlas6538 Regardless of your approach to the consumer base, I think Takara is trying to move the MP line from a toyline to that of a Hot Toys/SoC type. Those that aren't willing to look accept that change or going to be left behind unfortunately. Do they have work to do to get to that level, yes. Will they keep charging this much to make the "best" possible version of a character, yes. KO or not, if people keep buying it, they'll keep making it.
Overpriced for sure. But for me, it all comes down to the look of Prime himself and the shelf presence. And this is just one ugly Optimus Prime. I still hate the overly-simplistic, cartoony look of the Takara Masterpiece figures these days. The lack of detail and basic colors makes this figure vastly inferior to MP-10. And the Magic Square Light of Freedom has much better proportions, is WAY more reasonably priced, and looks better to me overall. Yes, this figure is beautifully engineered, the accessories are awesome and a lot of thought and effort clearly went into the engineering and design. But at the end of the day, it’s ugly. I wouldn’t get it if it was $100, much less the ridiculous price they’re charging. I don’t usually say no to a new Optimus Prime, but I’m sad to say, this is a big NO for me.
I complete agree with it not being worth $450. A Takara masterpiece at this price should be absolutely flawless, and this one has quite a few cartoon inaccuracies. Unfortunately, you have some followers on here that think the price tag is something to brag about and just goes to show that they are not real TF fans, at all.
However, as far as Te-01 and MP-44, TE-01 is the more cartoon accurate of the two. If thats all you're going to be concerned about, then TE is the right choice. The backpack of TE is far more cartoon accurate. Yes Prime has a bit a of backpack, but all you have to do is go back and watch any episode and you will see that even with the transformation, TE was able to practically copy the cartoon version perfectly both in size and style and design. The feet of MP-44 look as though he is standing on his toes at all times or that he is in heels. Cartoon Prime's feet go all the way to the ground, all the way around like big rectangle blocks. All of the panel gaps in the legs as well as too much red showing in the legs is a big mistake and is not up to par with the price tag. TE does not have any of these issues with the legs. The only thing keeping it from being 100% cartoon accurate in the legs would the slider pin seen on the sides.
The matrix chamber in TE is so accurate that it looks like it was pulled straight from Prime's death scene from the 86 movie. MP-44's matrix chamber makes a good attempt but falls short and looks like a Dollar General knock off. This is unacceptable of a $450 Takara masterpiece.
The only inaccuracies that I can see with TE-01 that keeps it from being the perfect Optimus Prime masterpiece figure, is that the grill in truck mode is split into 3 sections when the cartoon version just has two with a divide right down the center. MP-44 is the first masterpiece Prime that I have seen that does this successfully. The next issue with TE-01 is that its missing Prime's "blue thong" in the back, Instead you just get the truck mode bumper. MP-44 also does this successfully. And lastly, MP-44 does another thing that previous versions as well as TE-01 missed, the yellow indicator lights in the bumper in truck mode. The cartoon version of Prime has these two little triangle yellow indicator lights on the bumper under the headlights. No other figure has been able to match this.
With that being said, MP-44 does hit some small points that TE-01 does not as far as just the aesthetics of a cartoon accurate Optimus Prime, these points do not help it surpass TE-01 as the more cartoon accurate of the two. The robot mode as well as the truck mode just screams G1 cartoon Optimus Prime whereas MP-44 is close, but not close enough. And thats even before you consider the price tag difference. I do not care if its official or a KO or a 3rd party. My collection goes solely for aesthetics of cartoon accuracy. That is just my preference.
TE-01 for me for alt and robot mode but I’ll wait for FT to do their version until then MP10 is fine
FT probably won't do a prime now that MP44 is out.
William FansToys have said that their plan is release an entire G1 based collection. You’re right that it’s unlikely it will be right now due to MP44 but look at the past they were going to release a Soundwave and Hotrod but backed off when HasTak announced the MPs and they have now released Hoodlum and have announced Soundwave. Their Prime will likely
not be for a while but it will come eventually
The value isn't there. Takara threw in a bunch of cheap accessories to justify inflating the price. A message needs to be sent back to them. Unfortunately, there are people with too much fucking money buying multiples of this thing and consequently hurting the fandom by giving Takara a thumbs up. It's irritating.
The sculpt in autobot mode is good. However the backpack kibble kills it for me. Also the truck mode is I agree looks cartoon accurate but it’s definitely not clean whatsoever. Also transformation is dreadful.
wait , there is a display stand
Not a GOOD one.
People have probably already said this, but I'm too lazy to scroll through the comments. The reason the truck mode was so mangled in the front, and didn't stay together the best, is because the hands were improperly oriented. In truck mode you want the back of the hand in it's entirety to be visible with the side pealed off
Here's the thing...options options options, everyone to their own taste and budget. There is no wrong answer, just the answer that is for you. Even if I don't care for a certain aesthetic, I can appreciate the time spent in the production of a product and ones happiness with their purchase of said product. There are way too many stresses in life and reliving and enjoying ones childhood shouldn't be one of them, marred by people who can't appreciate anything. So transform and roll out into the sunset with whichever Optimus Prime you have.
Nope. He don't beat TE-01. Don't care for super toon accuracy, and that price nahhh. I can afford it but for plastic nahhh
Great review as always. I’m curious though why the Transform Element isn’t higher on your list though. It has the same aesthetic in many ways as MP-44 with the presence of the magic square. Plus the alt mode is the best of the lot for cartoon accuracy (IMO). Granted, I didn’t like the TE at first either, but now that it has that new head it’s just outstanding. Give it a second look if you haven’t with the new head yet.
agreed. its also built really well and is nice and heavy. very well done figure.
It’s a breath of fresh air to have someone give a straight up honest review. No beating around the bush. New sub.
Wait, there was a 20% coupon for Arby's? DAMNIT!
For the most important character in the franchise? I had to splurge. It's gorgeous and fun to pose. Any other character, no way. And not at the $400+ point - $300 was my "no more" point before I knew the price, but I couldn't pass for another $25.
Neh. It's pass for me. This is not the best optimus on the market in my opinion. Heck, I would TE then, this
Man wish mine came in looking as good as this one. Paint was chipped heavily out of the box, chrome was flaking on the chest and bumper, both the knees were non functional out of the box, the voice box wasn’t wired properly so it didn’t work at all with fresh batteries, and it even had large pieces of the skirt armor broken off. And this looks like they broke in factory because they’re painted over. I agree with you on the point that this is the best looking Prime out there, but the fact that myself and a large portion of others have had so many issues shows me that the quality isn’t there. And quite honestly, given the numerous and widespread issues that this release has had, I’m considering canceling all my Takara preorders and just going 3rd party. I got rid of my MP-44 and will be purchasing MS’s Prime. He has his issues, but at least the quality control appears to be better than Takara. I just don’t feel that I should have to play Russian Roulette with these official figures while paying an overinflated price point.
The visually boring deco turns me off. If I spent the money on him, I would then have to spend hours disassembling him, painting in details, clear coating and reassembling him. Not worth my time or money.
Doesn’t come with basketball 0/10- IGN
Personally I like the MP-10 better esthetic-wise, but I still bought MP-44. The pricetag is freakin' insane, but I can deal with it since its just that one character. The same goes for MP-45! However! If Takara decides to release new seekers at this pricepoint, I WILL tell them to go and screw themselfs, because that would be one mold with extra repaints and that is absolutely not worth this price level to me.
With all this said, I think that the MP-44 and 45 is the new price level for these figures. We will never see the prices we once used to be okey with from Takara. This is it, guys, so get used to it or jump straight onto the 3rd party train. Personally I think that Takara aren't doing themselfs any favors by demanding these prices, but they're in the business of making money and not making happy customers. These prices could very well be what sooner or later puts Takara out of business as far as the Transformers figures goes. 3rd party offerings are alot cheaper, and you still get the masterpiece level of engineering.
The Seekers probably won't be that expensive, but don't be surprised if they go for $300 or 30,000 yen. MP Hound is already going for 18,000 yen, and he's a small car bot.
I'd say that $300 is pretty damn expensive for a seeker, dude LOL! On top of that, you'll have to buy 3 of them at least, not including the potentional coneheads (which will be 3 more) that will come off that mold. Include all the diaclone repaints and you're wallet is really going to feel it LOL! And the seekers doesn't come with much accessories either, so yeah they'll become a expensive affair. $300 will be the absolute minimum for the bigger bots I think. MP-45 is at about $150 and he is a minibot, so I expect the car bot figures to end up at about $190-200 some where. Takara Tomy has already tested these "new prices" on us customers with the launch of MP-44 and 45, and this started all the way back when they released MP-36. Don't you for a second believe that Takara will ever go back to the old and more reasonable prices after their little "pricing experiement". They're thirsty for our money now, hahaha!
Ok, got my coffee. Time to settle in on the review I was waiting for.
Maybe I missed it, but what did you think of the transformation? Was it too much?
I think this reminds me of why I collect, and by I wouldn't want this. I collect figures because I find it fun. I like crazy nonsense like the coming Piranacon which is fun to mess around with and I like relatively straight laced but still fun to mess with Siege. This feels like the opposite of fun to me. It feels like it could've just been a non-transforming figure of prime and it would've cheaper and more fun, and less of a nightmare
That's the thing for me too, I think. I like transformers for the play element, and as such a great transformation is important; I personally don't really need a fully painted up one, bc. that clashes with transforming (loved the G1, and toys of that time, with the metal, then got sad when the 1st scratches showed up ...); _IF_ I'd want a display piece with shelf presence, I feel I'm better off getting a posable, non-transforming, beautifully painted one. (similar reason Fanstoys is less my deal - oh, and bc. I want that detailed toon/toy meld, not - imo - slavishly stupid cartoon uglyness w/o detail as Takara has been doing lately).
I do appreciate the engineering, like in the arms, and how it works on this one, but it is a lot of fiddling with small bits that create seams (and that red dot on the leg, leftover from the cab, brrr) to ultimately give a result that's not what I need.
Solid review. It's beautiful and impressive, but absolutely not worth the price tag.
While certainly overpriced, it's the best rendition of G1 cartoon Optimus Prime, complete with play-ability and soundbox (it contains clips by Peter Cullen!).
The chest to waist ratio is slightly off, that's what bugging you.
I'm not swapping MP 10.or the seekers to have the toon look. I rather get the Fanshobby Powermaster than this. At that Unicron price point. No way. Jose.
Thanks for reviewing this! I’ve been looking forward to this review for quite a while! You could say... I would’ve waited an eternity for this.
Respect your view Bobby, but in my opinion TE01 with the new head is the best looking prime G1 representation of prime. And that is without bringing price into it.
Great review once again. The paint and engineering looks pretty great (though that seems to ask for more consistent QC than they have seemingly been willing to spend, as knee issues, and some out of the box paint issues testify), he's poses great, and the accessoires are mostly very well done, and quite extensive. Though the end result is looking quite panel heavy for my liking, the transformation is quite clever here and there and less of a struggle than I expected. If that's what I'd want, yes, it would be a lot of money, but will probably might make quite a few people very happy to have. For me personally, the result is a lot of effort for something that seems different from what I want.
Totally agree with you there, i truly love the alt mode and i adore the bot mode, but to me Prime has been done out the wazoo too many times for me to really care for something that costs this much. That transformation to me is not using the animation model transformation scheme and i dont think thats something i would like to sacrifice, and as a collector i dont think that the transformation should feel like a chore.
Megatron gets a pass cause his alt mode is kinda useless alone and that he always flew when needing transport, so him being panely thats just something i wont see often. Thats why i got myself a P38 airgun and painted it as Megatron if i ever wanted to shoot something
27:50 - You have to raise the roof first to unlock the butterfly joints.
28:17 - You should untab the cab/crotch hook to free up room to lower the grill chunk rather than force those tabs out of it like the instructions say.
29:10 - The bumper chunk is a lot easier to lock into place after everything else and it keeps it out of the way.
29:45 - No rubbing required if you un-butterfly the shoulders first. Also, there is a tab that needs to be engaged. It is at the rear of those wheel chunks and they tab into the roof panels.
This is my method: ruclips.net/video/yVyugaCmtVI/видео.html
I know you are going to get a shiz ton of comments about the stand but I agree with you completely. They added the part for the Dinobot stand but no stand.... Beast Wars Meatron same thing... at these prices they should include the stand. I mean it even looks like they where built to be added together. Anyways.... I couldn't agree more with this review and your final opinions. Its beautiful but not 600+ beautiful... that's the price north of the boarder. I hope your day got better and thanks for taking the time to put this out.
Actually, from what I've found, you can use the arm that's holding the turret as a display stand.
I totally agree with you Bobby Skullface I think he's beautiful but nowhere near worth the price tag they are asking for AMAZING REVIEW AS ALWAYS KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK
I'll stick with mp10.
Great review Bobby! I do like this figure, best Prime to date, but Takara needs to drop the price, i am not spending 400-450 on this.
8:57 "Ion Blaster" that is. :)
I'm not a big fan. At the price point, your in Flame Toys and MP Combiner territory. Its a shame that this wasn't released as MP-44 Optimus Prime and MP-45 was the Trailer like the original 2 MPs, especially when we know 90% of collectors are throwing that trailer in the box and putting it in storage.
Aside from the price, I feel like the paint is a little too glossy and the white looks pretty cheap.
I'm definitely gonna stick to my Magic Square Light of Freedom, but I'll probably pick up one of the soon to be announced KOs just to judge for myself.
bdablader95 The Original 2 MPs were Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus. MP-01 never had an official trailer. They brought out MP-04 with the trailer, the “perfect edition”. Third party released a trailer for MP-01, it was made by FansToys.
I think that's what bothers me most about this figure is that it really does look like the best MP Prime but I just don't feel like it's worth the money...but as soon as I saw the Flametoys Optimus, I immediately pre-ordered that and I think both are the same price. Despite the fact that MP-44 comes with a ton of accessories I believe the Flametoys Optimus is more of a high-end collectible by comparison. I really do want this though...but I can ultimately do without.
Alex Ivy you can get the MP-44 for a lot less than Flametoys Optimus, but if you think that one is more “worth” than MP-44, than we definitely look for different things in a figure. Neither of us is wrong.
"I'm not having the best day so let's review this figure. First off we'll take a look at the fuckin' cab. It's great. It's Optimus. Now for the trailer: 'Fuck did you expect. Now we're gonna transform Optimus but since this figure is a flaming mother to transform, I'm gonna time lapse--and bam. Transformed. Looks like Optimus. His trailer? Opens up and shit. Roller. Some humans. A stand. Wanna use that useless repair feature that almost every MP-level Prime has? There ya'. Bim-bam-pop. Repaired. Never gonna use that feature ever again.
Overall thoughts: It's fuckin' Optimus Prime. Have a good Sunday"------- is how I would have wanted this review to go. But either way, it's great man, and I appreciate you pushing the review for us. You didn't have to but you did. Absolute champ and I hope that whatever's on your plate clears up for a better day :)
Certainly this Prime does look good and hits all the marks, no question. I honestly prefer TE Prime. In some regards MP44 looks better, but at the same time I think TE looks just as good in most areas. The elephant in the room of course, is the elephant sized price tag on MP44 here. I am more than happy (and very impressed with TE's very first figure) with having spent the 150 (I think?) on TE Prime. Never would I spend that ridiculous amount of money for something like this. I was interested to see what your take on this was, good review as always sir.
@@CosmicOneX Wow.... just wow...
Finally someone tells the truth it’s not worth the price should be 150 tops
I'd go as far to say that $275 is a fair price. Than again, I haven't dipped my toe into the master piece market yet, so my opinion is somewhat invalid.
Well said...just wondering...I recently revisited MP-39 Sunstreaker and he did have an ugly backpack as well, which had no electronics I might add, but people had no problems with that...and he was pricey as well.
Man your absolutely right about everything you said about the mp-44, the price point is definitely way too high, you can buy a 🚗 from Gettysburg PA, auto auction and have it driving for what they want for this, but hey if you’re ballin and think 🤔 it’s worth it do you big daddy. Anyway loved the review and just wanted to let you know how I felt on this issue too because I’m between a rock and hard place about MP-44, love it!, want it!, but it’s not worth the money 💵 they asking for it. At least to me...
I don't think we all know just how much the complexity could exponentially drive up the manufacturing cost. Simple designs must be dramatically easier to produce. I'd love to peek at the entire process and I think we could all understand how this got priced the way it did. I think everybody probably imagines these things are just spit out of a machine. It is a quantum leap in design but not necessarily a leap in all-around asthetics for everybody. If you think the Magic Square or TE looks good for you, I don't blame you for not thinking this model is worth it.
Nope for me shipped it will be 550 nope Takara can keep and I'm waiting for weijiang or black mamba to do it for a fraction of the cost. Maybe muricans are crazy recently a Chinese guy bought half my collection and told me this guy costs 150 in China I said wha??? He said yeah it's made in China and then confirmed its genuine
That's takara for ya. Their gonna charge too much for something like this. I personally love this set but the price indeed is overkill. I mean I didn't pay that much for any of my hot toys iron man figures.
The price on this is an issue but you want it for $170??? The magic square is $140 with no trailer. Your math seems off to me. I think $250 would have been fair for takara to ask but they seemed to be really pushing the prices higher and higher
Agree 100% I definitely would have purchased this for $175-200. Until that changes, I'll be fine with MP10 or pickup a used or on sale TE-01.
I totally agree with your assessment. And I’m not resentful because it costs $450....God knows I filled 4 Detolfs with Hot Toys this summer.... But this price is a bridge too far for me. I love my Magic Square one now and will see what Hot Toys comes up with. I happen to think that the backpack looks ridiculous on 44. Looks like what they did to the new Bumblebee’s backpack and FEEEEEET! For 450 bucks, I want magic level engineering to avoid that hunchback.
I feel this is history repeating itself, but gotten a bit out of hand on Takara part (maybe the price?). When mp-10 came FIRST (as in the original Takara release in 2011) came out it was retailed at $250 USD and it had a sour reaction with collectors, especially in comparison with mp-01. I feel people will appreciate it “if” it gets a “priced reduced” release of some sort. My take my-44 would pretty much be a copy & paste of Vangelus mp-10 review (his final say on it that is m.ruclips.net/video/YxbVZ-a1Xgo/видео.html ) only replacing mp-10 with mp-44.
Great review as always. Feels it reflects my sentiments as well. I didn't get the 3p Optimus as I'm happy with MP10. If this was around the 250usd mark I likely would have. In otherwords, for me this is close to 75% overpriced (and seems it's 100% overpriced for you.. likely because I have trouble with not splurging :-p). It does look phenomenal and that articulation! However not 450 phenomenal...
"Best Optimus Prime on the market"
"It trashes the TE , it trashes the MS"
Come on, now we all know you are just planting the seeds to get more content for your
"They love me, They love me not (Part 6) video ... "
pls add mine if you do one
"BuBbeH kisSeS teh HasTak aSs mOre THan FaaaaaaaaaNSToyyyyyyys.. HAsTAk now has h3rPes"
p/s : keep it up .... reading angry comments is a favorite past time of mine in the morning before work XD.
All the time energy and most importantly MONEY spent on the trailer and components for what is basically a 1 time use gimmick that pushes up the price of the main event prime hundreds of dollars . Like sure theres someone out there that will use the trailer and set 8n some awesome unique way but most people will leave it in the box gathering dust until they decide to sell the figure on . What a waste
lets not forget takara version mp-10 was $299 when it first came out, and had way less accessories than mp44. Maybe down the road he will get cheaper when he is reissued.................
It's definitely the best Prime out there. Unlike most people who are mostly about paintings, looks, aesthetics, etc, I'm more about QC. About everything looks great enough to me nowadays. The QC on this Prime is great and has minor flaws just like EVERY other MPs. This piece is great to have BUT this SHAT isn't worth the full price. This thing is ~$250 max at most.
MP-44 trashed TE prime? I do not think so.
Agreed. I would like to see them both next to each other in hand though.
I feel people will complain except if it's FansToys. Not trying to take pop shots ...... If FansToys would have made an Optimus Prime with trailer etc.... I have no doubt it would be around 500-600 dollars with all the features. And the community would justify for the most part the cost. If they made an Ultra Magnus it was 600.00 people would be okay. People would justify it . Hell people justify the secondary market price. So can anyone say they wouldn't buy who is a collector from FansToys? I think the Takara has gotten gripe ever since they announce it. I do feel there is a hypocrisy to a degree. If we are willing to pay 120.00 for limb bot why not. Excellent review Bobby !! Just for the record I would buy this or if it was a Fans Toys because I do wanna eat LOL.
Thanks for the thorough look at this figure. However, you left out a crucial detail, I think. By now, I suspect most MP collectors would already have at least one version of MP Optimus - either MP1, MP10, or possibly even both. You completely neglected to compare it in any real sense with either of the previous MP iterations. Somehow I doubt people would care as much about a comparison with Magic Square as opposed to MP10. I know you compared vehicle modes, but I would love to have heard your thoughts on whether this figure is good enough (rediculous pricepoint notwithstanding) to replace MP10 as a collector's mainstay MP Optimus Prime. Especially considering how clear you've made your feelings in the past on the toon-accurate design aesthetics MPs have embarked on since MP Inferno.
He's nice. But at that price. Mp 10 is my go to guy. It's like having Micheal jordan at 150.00 and he won 6 championships. And at 400.00 and you getting james harden and never won shit.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hard Pass. The transformation is bullshit, the price is ridiculous, and it's just too "panel-ey". MP-01 is my Prime, and to me nothing has beat it yet, not even MP-10(which I also have, but still think it's inferior to 01. I like certain aspects of this Prime, and I DO agree his presence is there, but it's just not worth it.
Agree as well, $225 tops for me.
I wonder - and I don't see anyone bringing it up - could the price have anything to do with the audio clips? Like, a) how much does it cost to have Peter C - arguably one of the most recognizable voices ever - to be featured on your toy? Remember, the other one had a "soundalike".
B) If they're copyrighted from the movie, Takara most likely does not own TF:TM, so it most cost to license those clips as well.
Just a thought, since I hate, hate, hate electronics and sound on my figures and find them useless as they drive up production in cost.
Unfortunately you can thank the scalpers for ruining this for people. I'll wait for the KO or Fanstoys version
The softer curved edge shoulders look feminine, smaller.
dunno what aesthetic they tried for on those soft shoulders. plush toy? It’s not toon
You might wanna look at the animation model again.
Chris Gould it’s mostly fine. soft edges just seem overdone in spots like shoulders & legs. it was a design choice
I knew that you would say it's the best Optimus, but you just wouldn't be able to accept the price.
The best price would have been $250, $150 for Optimus, and $100 for the rest.
Wish you feel better and things are under control now.
I am not going to buy KO of this, although I am not willing to buy at official price. I don't want this at all.
I wish ThreeA will make G1 Prime in their "movie line" detail and quality. Their previous attempt was too stylized. And I don't like the Bee movie version's proportion and too much exposed bits. (not their false)
this shits too complicated....MP-36 Megatron was complicated as well, but it had an excuse due to the complex shaping of the gun mode. I feel like Takara wanted MP-44 to be complicated for the sake of being fancy. The legs in particular could've been engineered a lot simpler and streamlined. MP-10 is perfectly fine, this is a pass for me dawg lol
Yeesh, that transformation… at this point I'm considering just having a non-transformable robot and a really cool truck to display together.
My only thing as far as the truck mode visual aesthetic is: did Optimus really have *THAT* BIG a gap between the cab and the trailer in the show? I always thought that the G1 toy & even MP10 (hell, even MP04) did a more accurate job of showing that.
He looks great but to steep for my pockets! LOL
On a different subject Bobby!
Sorry for bringing this up but I saw a video of how Google is basically terminating anything that has to do with kid content on RUclips as of 1-1-2020. This includes Toy reviews. Do you know anything about this Bobby? I have the vid if you care to watch. This is from another toy reviewer. This will suck if this is all coming about. This will end anyone that does any toy reviews or anything that has kids characters in it on RUclips.
LMAO.. "Yo BOBBIE" (Last O.G. ref) u should of had a glass of wine with the review or a bottle water - whew u said alot.. 1st review I felt like watchin' of MP-44 - u did 👍- with U on NOT worth the $💰
This figure looks amazing, and is definitely a frail figure in my opinion for what it has and what it can do. HOWEVER, I can’t fathom paying that much for it. I can’t fathom paying that much for any toy really. Super cool, and I’m glad to see the review, but not for me. The newest masterpiece I’ve bought was sunstreaker, and it seems it may be staying that way.
I bought it day one and agree with Bobby. Easily the best prime on the market - still grossly over priced. I got the cheapest option (the Amazon Japan option) so it stings less - but this should have been mid 200s TOPS. Still glad I have it, but I don't blame anyone for passing. But dont even TRY and say any of the other primes are better. They ain't.
I couldn't see myself spending over $100 for this. It's just so awkward and unaesthetic to me. The ugly rear, the excessive panel lines, the lanky proportions. This looks like the acne-faced puberty Prime.
Little late to the game but I wanted to throw in my 2¢. I'll try not to make this sound to defensive, we all have our one opinions after all and I'll admit that I'm not the best when it comes to words and wording things. Anyways, while I do own one and I did get the Amazon JP discount, I do agree that as a whole it's not worth the average $450 it runs for. I will say, that to me, it was worth the Amazon JP discount as, in my honest opinion, I feel like I can see where the money went.
Given how many pieces are in this Prime compared to most other TFs on market, 1st and 3rd, and how small most of them are I'm sure it's not cheap to assemble and paint him at the factory but I'm willing to be wrong. I'm sure their is definitely a brand and artificially inflated price as well but in most cases I see it all there. I'm also insure if they needed to spend extra on permission to use both of the English and Japanese voices. Like there's a lot to break down here between all the above and some I probably forgot to mentioned.
I'd like to reiterate though that I do agree that Mp-44 is not worth $450 but more like $350 and if he ever drops that low at discount that's more than fair. Each go there own though and if your happy with your Mp-1, your Mp-10, your Magic Square, or even your TF Element and KOs I'm glad for you. Sorry this was long, had a lot to type. If anyone read this, I'm also sorry for the minutes you won't get back from reading this.
