@elysiamorris3286 I seriously wouldn't. It sucks here. Everything is stupid expensive here now, and the state and local government sucks. I can give you many more reasons, if you would like ha.
Kendall, NEVER apologize for getting emotional on camera! Youre human. Plus a mom to a little girl. These are frustrating, scary, and unbelievably sad times, indeed.❤
The fact that Armando was able to stand there in front of Miya’s worried family members and tell them he “just found out” about her going missing KNOWING what he had already done to her is so disgusting and chilling.
When I was in high school, this boy asked me out. My response to him was that it wouldn't be fair to go on a date because I did not view him in a romantic way. Needless to say, he did not take it well and then threatened to beat me up and slit my throat. When I told the principal of the school, they said they couldn't do anything because I didn't have evidence of what was said. They also said they couldn't do anything unless the boy physically did something. My mother pulled me out of school the same day.
It is so frightening that we are told that unless they actually hurt us we cannot be protected. By the time that they do hurt us there is nothing that the police can do. The system is broken and often times is the system that is victimizing us. Being a woman is terrifying. And unfortunately this was a STUNNING YOUNG WOMAN of COLOR. I am not very surprised. Disgusted but not surprised.
Good on you for saying something and your mom for seeing taking your concern seriously. I don’t understand why women’s’ concerns aren’t taken seriously. No joke, at my work, there is a homeless male who comes in a lot to use Wi-Fi and one day he perved on me (making comments about my chest). I reported him to my supervisor and unfortunately we can’t make him leave unless he disturbs customers or something. Thankfully my supervisor saw I was genuinely scared and let me leave early.
I’ve had a stalker since middle school who was saying threatening things via MySpace because I rejected him. I have years of messages that Said he only dated people that looked like me or had my name and that if he ever found out I was with someone else he would hurt them. I brought it the police and because he didn’t actually show up and try they couldn’t do anything. I just ran into him at a sporting event years later and somehow kept showing up where I was in a huge event space. I stayed with people I knew and didn’t walk anywhere alone but it ruined my time. I don’t even have my full name listed on my work places website so he can’t search and find me. It just sucks that women are helpless. Why do we have to wait? I don’t get it.
Your mom saved your life.❤🙏 It’s insanely frustrating that these things aren’t taken seriously. It happened to me several times from age 16-21 and *almost* everyone told me it was no big deal, that I wasn’t being very nice to the guys, and I should just go out with them. Most of whom were much, much older than me.
tysm for covering the case of my cousin. it has been extremely difficult to deal with her passing. it's not easy but knowing she is in a better place brings me peace ❤❤❤
I am so sorry for your loss. My uncle was kidnapped and murdered, those days were hell, not knowing if your loved one is okay, or not. May God continue to bless you and your family. Your cousin seemed like a lovely young lady.
i didn’t know miya, but this case has effected me as if i did. i remember being glued to the news updates & praying for her safety. i can’t think of miami carnival without thinking of her and how she should be able to be getting ready like the rest of us to celebrate & have fun. i’m so sorry for your loss & am praying for healing for your family 😢🙏🏾
Unfortunately no, I don’t know about the us but in my country ever 8 days a women is killed by her (ex) partner. In Russia every three hours. There’s so many stories to tell, it’s heartbreaking 💔
I still don't understand why in the US apparently maintenance guys just get to have the masterkey to get into any apartment on their own. That's insane. Last time I commented on this, I got a bunch of americans in the replies telling me 'well you don't own the apartment, it's not yours!!' as though that had anything to do with it?? The security risk of it all is crazy
@@roselynholloway7863 yes!! you schedule which time the maintenance people should come, and then you have to be home & let them in. Typically the maintenance personnel is not connected to the apartment management/landlord. Like if I need a plumber, I can choose which plumbing firm i'm going to call. As far as I understood it, this is not how it works in the US?
@@jeyyranI’m from the US and the first part of this still rings true (at least where I live) you make an appointment with the landlord and maintenance crew for them to come over. Usually you are home and you should always have another person with you but that just might be a thing my mom taught me. I think master keys are a thing in case the police need to get into an apartment with a warrant, there is a welfare check going on or the tenant hasn’t been home in a long time and maintenance. Needs to get in there to see if it’s been abandoned. It’s honestly a bunch of weird reasons.
I used to go to Valencia, and I am in my junior year at UCF. I’m also from Orlando. Whenever I pass Arden Villas on my way to school, I think about Miya. I didn’t know her personally. She is not forgotten. I always see posts about her on the anniversary of her passing. She is forever engrained in everyone’s hearts. Rest in Peace, Miya.
I’m from the Daytona Beach area, and this case still haunts me. So close to home. I felt like Miya didn’t get as much news coverage at the time. It was around the same time Gabby Petito went missing. May she Rest In Peace ❤
The family really deserves wayyy more compensation than 30k. The apartment complex company’s negligence and lack of concern for what the family was going through is truly disgusting.
Break up violence/ rejection violence needs to be talked about more. I had to get a restraining order against my ex because of how rabid amd threatening he got when i finally got the courage to leave him I also think parents need to teach their sons how to handle rejection/ a break up. Edit: the fact he unalived himself doesn't surprise me. Dudes like him either are imnenial about them being violent or they are too cowardice to face the consequences
I will never understand the mentality of people who can't take rejection. Yes it hurts, but there are so many people out there in the world. You have to experience rejection at least once to learn and grow. No means no is a basic thing you learn even before going to kindergarten.
@@KwispyZ exactly. I've been rejected multiple times by guys I was into. I never took it personal, I just kept living life. Now I'm married to a beautiful husband of 5 yrs, and we have 2 amazing boyfriends as well.
I saw another podcast on this and didn’t realize it was the same woman at first because of the lack of info at the beginning that this video provided. thank you for taking the time to tell us WHO the victims are and telling their stories.
the case is especially personal to me bc i was attending ucf when she went missing, and people were posting her everywhere to try to find her. this case is so beyond sad.
So true!! I have 2 German Shepherds and they have kept me safe on several occasions where, had I been alone, I don’t think I would still be here today. I love that all my neighbors know we (my daughter and I) have 2 big, protective dogs. I know not everyone can have a dog, but, ladies, if you can, you should!! Get a breed that is considered intimidating, and get a shelter dog, bc they remember what you saved them from.
A 27 year old shouldn’t even be looking at a 19 year old like that. Poor Miya. Edit: To all the weirdos arguing in the comments that she was over 18 and therefore they were both adults so it is okay for him to approach her romantically, you are fucking gross. A 19 year old and 27 year old have absolutely nothing in common and are in totally different places in life. Also the human brain doesn’t finish developing until the mid-to-late 20s so teenagers may not be aware enough to realise they are being taken advantage of. You don’t just magically become all knowing when you cross the line from 17 to 18. We are still practically children at 18. I am 27 right now and would never ever be interested in dating someone that still has the word TEEN in their age. I wouldn’t even date someone younger than 23. If you have lived as both a 19 year old and a 27 year old, you should know how incredibly different you were at both ages and how little you knew as a teenager. If you are still trying to argue about this, you’re the problem.
When I was like 15 or 16 I was living with my grandmother, we had this neighbor and one day i was head to the community shop and he saw me and bc he creeps me out i walked away and he shouted "where ru going don't you see i'm coming to u" then he asked me for my number. he was like 50 something at the time. and the same thing happened again with my landlord. he keeps trying to invite me to his house he's around 70 and now I'm 18 and these grown men askes me out all the time and uses the law as an excuse saying well your a grown woman now plus it's legal some won't take no for an answer. this has been happening to me since I was in middle school. So all am saying is they don't care as long as it's legal it's ok
Tell your family about it. If possible record what they say. It happened to me when I was very young also. You need to take it seriously they are deviants. ❤@Abigail-ui5yl
Kendall, I love the way you cover victims stories, you don’t tell them salaciously and don’t make these stories sound like a “true crime fix” or just straight up entertainment. You make us realize these are real people and real loves ones that experience an incredible loss. Love love your work!
I LOVE that aspect of her coverage as well. She doesn’t try ti make it funny or yeah like you said “salacious”. Or like idle gossip like another commenter said once. These are tragic real life events and we should be greatly disturbed by them because they are disturbing and not a fun story. My conscience actually began to convict me about watching creators who 1 aren’t forthcoming about any activism they are taking regarding covering these cases and 2 who cover it as if these events are any form of dark humor or salacious. Because when you think of the fact that these creators covering these horrific events are having their pockets filled by them it really drives home how important it is that they AT LEAST contribute monetarily to the investigation or any kind of outreach to the people affected by these events.
@@melaninandaura9713 Not naming names here but, yeah, there's one creator in particular who I used to watch a couple of years ago who gives me the exact opposite vibes of Kendall. I am sure she puts a lot of effort into her work as well but these are more than stories or content and people like Kendall use their platform to elevate the lives, voices, and work of the victims, survivors, advocates, and so on.
A really similar case just happened here in Argentina. Catalina Gutierrez, an architecture student, was murdered by her friend and classmate Nestor Soto, because he couldn't handle that she only saw him as a friend. It's so scary. SO sad. Thank you Kendall for covering these cases.
That deputy really just irritated me. EVERY single missing person should be treated with urgency regardless of how they went missing but especially in Miya’s case and the evidence present
I mean it doesn’t surprise me at all black and brown people go missing everywhere and normally the cops don’t care or pass them off as runaways like that cop did Miya
It’s the fact that his big moose axx stood there arguing with her family knowing what he did to that girl. It is disgusting and to leave the family with no answers is so damn disheartening.
It’s always so terrifying to me how often the people who claim to be in love with/truly enamored by someone then turn around and hurt and/or murder them so brutally. I’ll never understand it. I guess it comes down to obsession and the desire to posses someone rather than actual love. Chilling.
That's so true. I was just thinking of stories/comics/media of stories like these. I always thought they were exaggerated, and they are, but ones of obsessive love turned into murderous actions after being rejected; so many have sympathy for the psychopath or that they could be redeemed if the main character just loved them. Miya living that reality really shows how truly terrifying that reality is. So glad they got Armando and peace to her valiant loving family. This should have never happened.
former ucf student here. thank you for covering this a lot of people in the area were concerned about the lack of publicity and talk surrounding this case.
This is the dark side of “pretty privilege,” she not only was physically stunning, but her personality matched. My grannie always said there are 3 types bird watchers, The one who watches the bird from afar, marvels in its beauty, and lets it be, The one who catches and cages the bird, then grows resentful of the bird not being what it once was, discarding and searching for another, and The one who kills and stuffs the bird so draining it of all its vibrance and allowing no one else to experience it. She told me the same applies to men. She quoted someone, I just forget who. This was fkd up on so many levels and I pray her family finds some semblance of peace.
This case breaks my heart for so many reasons. When I was also 19 I had a situation at an apartment complex where a maintenance worker threatened my safety. I did everything I could beyond suing the complex and they did NOTHING to help me. I hope that Miya's story makes parents and young adults think harder about asking those important questions when deciding where to live, and I hope that other states enact these protective laws to keep people safe
This happened 20 mins away from where I live and I still always think of Miya when I drive by that apt complex. As someone who used to live alone in apts, this case was incredibly scary to me at the time…apt maintenance should never have access to people’s homes without consent.
He was a 27 year old man stalking a 19 year old!! What the heck!! I hate that the murderer stole justice from her family, but I’m glad he can’t hurt anyone anymore. What an absolutely, disgusting, vile coward. Condolences to her beautiful family 💔
Omg I thought the same thing.. also the arrogance he carried you can see in the photos how he thought of himself fully 🙄 I feel so sad for her family and she was so young 😢
But my abuser kidnaps me when I was 17 and he was 58 .. no one blinks a eye. Smfh cops even drove me back to his house, after I attempted suicide, when I was 18, white privilege I suppose 🙄
That's old for most 27 yeqr old I was 17 when with a 27 year old and 18 with a 33 year old. We mature quick and them well not so much. Plus we are fresh and clean they like the innocence we hold no one not 1 person seen it as weird that I was dating older men my mother infact encouraged it so I would get out of her house
I don't cry a lot with true crime stories but hearing that woman crying out, saying "where is Miya?" got me in tears. You can truly hear and feel her pain, it's so sad 💔
I don’t think I’ve ever seen you cry in a video. Thank you for being so raw and real. As much as I am interested in true crime and consume a lot of your content, it’s easy to forget that there are real families out there suffering loss.
More foundations need to be centred around teaching young boys and men how to treat women rather than teaching women how to protect themselves since men WILL get around those if they’re determined enough.
At the same time, not all men with follow those teaching, and if they don’t and women don’t have the ability to defend themselves then what? Evil people will be evil, whether you tell them not to be or not, it’s the sad way of the world unfortunately.
@@samantha30FAExactly what I be saying, but you and me will obviously get looked at a certain way nowadays for explaining the harsh unpleasant realities of things in general. But yeah, can't fix crazy. 🤷
“Ding, ding, ding deputy dumbass” I love you and your passion for these victims how naturally furious you become at the lack of common sense! Miya did not deserve this any of this! RIP Miya 💖
The full video of her family recording Armando with her blanket and gloves is heartbreaking because after you cut it you can hear them start to cry and panic because its all confirmation that he did this.
The disregard with which the original deputy treated this Black Caribbean American family is absolutely HORRENDOUS. So happy that beautiful Miya can rest peacefully and that her murderer be seen for the terrifying and Insecure monster that he truly was. 🙏🏾
Honestly that deputy is like "yeh women be crazy" and not taking anything seriously. He needs to be fired for incompetence. Hearing her mother screaming hit me so hard as a mother
And then unfortunately when we say these things, most of the time it’s “that doesn’t happen” or “women hurt men, too.” Like they are incapable of actually listening to care rather than listener ing to respond
This is the first video of yours I’ve ever cried over while watching. Being a woman is literally horrifying. We shouldn’t have to live like this. RIP Miya 🖤🧡
being a woman is so scary, this case & many others like this just break my heart. beautiful young women, with a beautiful future ahead, all taken away. it's so sad. they deserved better, as do all of us.
@@BlackAmericanFlagNo one is saying that men don’t have their own dangers. By speaking about women’s experiences it doesn’t negate or diminish what men go through. It’s not a threat to men’s experiences dude. Both can exist and be spoken about and both deserve to do it without people like you coming in with whataboutisms or competing on who has it worse.
That deputy’s negligence made this case start later than it should have. If he had taken his job seriously they could’ve at the very least found Mia sooner and been able to get a cause of death and an arrest.
This why I have raised both my boys to understand that "No" means "No". Not maybe !!!! not if you keep on !!! When I say "No!!" They both know that I mean it and they don't keep on or try and change my mind ,they know I mean business!!! I feel it's important that they understand that so they don't end up in trouble in the future with girls!!
Yes 🙌🏼 As a boy mom, we teach consent, and the first sign of concerning behavior, we’re off the the therapist and psychiatrist to provide necessary help. Accountability to keep one other safe.
Your tears and pain shows the community how you genuinely care about the victims and their families. Thank you so much for being an awesome person and spreading awareness about Miya. This was truly heartbreaking but I speak peace and comfort over the families💔💔💔
The care and compassion that you show for the victims just shows how amazing of a person you are. I understand you getting emotional. This story makes me angry every time I think of it. Thank you for sharing Miya's story.
also bruh when you started talking about the police entering her bedroom for the first time, and you said the room looked like a literal crime scene and the policeman still fumbled, i thought maybe it'd be like a tussle or a ton of knocked over things. i was SO unprepared for you to say a literal bookshelf underneath a doorknob like a home alone movie skit, or BLOOD just sprinkled about. like i knew you said the first policeman was an irresponsible, unprofessional, and highly incompetent dickhead, but i rlly got whiplash when you said he ignored blood and the most obvious sign of an impromptu doorstopper. like ??? huh ??? how do you see the most cartoonishly obvious signs of a break-in that led to some form of physical damage, and still look the victim's loved ones in the eyes and treat them like they're delusional?
Men are afraid women will laugh at them. Women are afraid men will kill them. And we have ever reason to be afraid. My heart breaks for Miya and her family.
If Miya were a different complexion her welfare check would’ve been a priority. Unfortunately, this is a huge problem people of color- namely Black individuals are plagued with at the hands of those who are sworn to protect and serve. RIP Miya 🙏🏽
I love the way you cuss and talk about the villains in these cases. Because it’s what we’re all thinking when we hear it. And it’s just so refreshing to hear you talk the way my brain thinks.
As a mother and as a mother of a murdered child, I had tears remembering the murder of my son who was only 18. I appreciate you covering this case and I often wonder how as a RUclipsr and also a mom, how can you not get emotional? Mya was failed by law enforcement and the apartment complex. I would think that the very first item to be covered when hiring someone, would be the background check! I’m sure it costs money but it’s the safety of the residents the top priority? My heart breaks for her family and what a wonderful and needed way to honor Mia by establishing a foundation to bring awareness to others and I agree that on a welfare check college students are just as vulnerable as the elderly, maybe even more so!
This happened while I was a student at UCF and living right down the street from Arden.... it's actually insane that you covered this case but I am so happy you did. I remember her missing posters plastered absolutely everywhere and how devastated the community was when we found out what that creep had done. Thank you for covering her case!
Kendall’s mom-love makes these harder to cover. My tears come for these cases, too. Only daughter is a capable woman in her thirties, but the thought of something like this happening to her is gut-wrenching. People, protect yourselves ❤️🩹🫂
My daughters name is Mia. Shes 6. When her mother started screaming outside the apartment wheres Miya i broke down. My thoughts and love and prayers for this family. 😭
You said about her telling those in her life about the murderer right away, “it was so crucial - it unfortunately didn’t save her life” and you’re right and it’s so very tragic, but then my next thought was the other life(ves) she DID save by doing so. 😔💖 Your coverage is so well expressed, Kendall - keep it up and taking care. 🤍
I like that you're very empathetic about the story you share and the fact that you do the narration personally instead of the now widely emerging AI narrative riddled with mistakes and some hardly make any sense. 💖
So glad this is getting coverage. Living 10 mins down the road from where this happened, I still think about this case all of the time. My heart goes out to her friends and family❤️
Yeah she never got with that pathetic lowlife in the first place, he took her away because if he couldn’t have her then no one else could. Sick coward.
Why is this deputy still working in law enforcement? Seriously?! Just a slap on the hand for obstructing justice. The person who is supposed to protect and serve!!
not only does he take her from her family, but he also kill’s himself before offering any explanation…what a coward! i hope miya’s family finds peace 🤎 rest easy miya 🕊️

I remember this case. It was heartbreaking. She has a gorgeous smile. To know the owners of the apartment complex did not do a thorough big check on him is ridiculous. Maintenance workers should not have open access to your apt..
the empathy you show for these victims is why i love watching you. this isn't just a video to watch and the facts aren't presented as shock value, you genuinely care about these people are remind your viewers that these are human beings and these are real circumstances. love your channel, kendall!
These cases happen far too often, even in South Africa, a student (Erin van Rensburg) was stalked, kidnapped from her apartment and killed by her brother's friend after she rejected him. Its so sad when kindness is mistaken for love.

Yours is the only true crime I watch anymore because of your respect for the victims and families. Thank you for this, how you tell these stories is so important and powerful. I was crying along with you at the end, thanks for being real Kendall 💜
Just have to say that you crying is never ever going to send the message that you don't care about some cases or care for others more so... to me it signals that you care very deeply for each and every person whose story you share, their surviving families and friends, and everyone involved in bringing monsters to justice. Sometimes it hits us harder than others. You are a mother, pet parent, and all around deeply beautiful and kind person, and I very much love that you bring your whole self to each case. Your genuineness, warmth, dedication, and humanism is appreciated.
You are so right, i have been watching Kendall are since i was maybe 13-14 and i am a college student now turning 19 soon, All her cases are all equally important to me but this one really made me cry because it hit really close to home.
Why is maintenance allowed to have access to their apartments at any given time? There should be some procedure they need to go through first before having access unless theres a fire or water leak. Rip Miya

The lack of care from the police is so, so frustrating and sad
The police continue to be completely useless. It really sucks that the only way is to carry a personal weapon.
And disgusting
like they just stand there and do nothing.

That's why people don't trust law enforcement people will start taking the law into their own hands if they haven't already.
It feels like Kendall could make a true crime series of just women rejecting men and their deaths and never run out of content. :(
Unfortunately no, I don’t know about the us but in my country ever 8 days a women is killed by her (ex) partner.

Does your country do it differently
@@roselynholloway7863 yes!! you schedule which time the maintenance people should come, and then you have to be home & let them in. Typically the maintenance personnel is not connected to the apartment management/landlord. Like if I need a plumber, I can choose which plumbing firm i'm going to call. As far as I understood it, this is not how it works in the US?
@@jeyyran gotcha
@@jeyyranI’m from the US and the first part of this still rings true (at least where I live) you make an appointment with the landlord and maintenance crew for them to come over. Usually you are home and you should always have another person with you but that just might be a thing my mom taught me. I think master keys are a thing in case the police need to get into an apartment with a warrant, there is a welfare check going on or the tenant hasn’t been home in a long time and maintenance. Needs to get in there to see if it’s been abandoned. It’s honestly a bunch of weird reasons.
@@jeyyranhere in switzerland too. We have to make an appointment when they should come.

The family really deserves wayyy more compensation than 30k. The apartment complex company’s negligence and lack of concern for what the family was going through is truly disgusting.
They need to own that complex. This was being egregious. A catastrophe
Them doing nothing about miya's harassment complaints really pissed me off.
Break up violence/ rejection violence needs to be talked about more. I had to get a restraining order against my ex because of how rabid amd threatening he got when i finally got the courage to leave him I also think parents need to teach their sons how to handle rejection/ a break up.

the case is especially personal to me bc i was attending ucf when she went missing, and people were posting her everywhere to try to find her. this case is so beyond sad.
being a woman is so so scary. we shouldn’t have to live this way
And they get mad at the We Chose the Bear statement. This is why!
Fr alot of women in my area have gotten stalked and assaulted its so scary
The world needs improvement for sure, but we have it better in this society than some others.
amen.

A adult shouldn’t be talking to a adult yeah that sounds smart how come I didn’t think of that
This is horseshit. 19 is an adult. Period.
I met my hubby when I was 18 and he was 26. We have been married 19 years now.
Kendall, I love the way you cover victims stories, you don’t tell them salaciously and don’t make these stories sound like a “true crime fix” or just straight up entertainment. You make us realize these are real people and real loves ones that experience an incredible loss. Love love your work!
It is so hard to find channels that don't make me feel like I'm watching a tmz episode

More foundations need to be centred around teaching young boys and men how to treat women rather than teaching women how to protect themselves since men WILL get around those if they’re determined enough.

We always say these things and it doesn’t matter. They don’t stop because they want to hurt us, it’s literally what gets them off.
