Its been years that I have woken up feeling good and refreshed. I always wake up feeling like crap. Even if I have a great nights sleep. And it takes me hours to shake off the groggyness. It makes living crap, I could care less if I wake up anymore.
I don't have narcolepsy or anything like that. I'm just so tired. And nothing I look up fits my description. I need at least 12 hours- that's half the day!- or more to wake up feeling decent and even when I get twelve hours straight, many times I'm STILL tired, groggy, feel awful, feels like my body is filled with cement, no energy, have to take a nap. It's been like this for years. And I'm missing so much in life, it's robbing me of a life. And I get so angry and jealous of all the normal people around me that get to do whatever they want with all their abundant time they have and energy to do stuff. And of course they don't understand me and judge tf out of me. I'm so angry.
I am the same,i even can sleep 18-20 hours but that is not that often. Had to write this to,i am maybe on something. There is two weeks know that i dont eat bread and processed sugar(sweets, coca cola etc).and know i am not so tired, and sleep less.really hope that that is the “cure”,but similar thing hapened when i reduced coffee to a one cup a day, before that i drinked arround 10. And yea, sorry for spelling.english is not my first language
I can sleep for 24hrs straight. I won't feel hungry. Even after sleeping that long, am still tired and want to take a nap again. I memory is so bad, i forget everything. I even forget the neighbor I stayed with for 3 yrs after like 2or3 yrs.
Honestly same my sleep patterns will be fine for a few days-months then I just randomly can't go to sleep at night (I take melatonin but that hasn't been working anymore) It sucks and I don't know what to do anymore My mom just thinks I am staying up on my phone but I am literally just laying in the dark on my bed listening to instrumental music trying to sleep for like hours. Or I'll wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to fall back asleep, It really messes with my life I am wasting the day away sleeping because I didn't get sleep at night.
I've had sleep problems my entire life. But within these past few years it's become more obvious that there is something ligitimitaly wrong with me. I can literally sleep for 2 days and still be exhausted the day I go back in for work. Even then I need to take some sort of nap. I fall asleep while I'm sitting down on the computer for 10min On some days. It literally hurts me sometimes how tired I am. It doesn't ever matter how much sleep. I don't have the energy to do anything when I get home or take my girlfriend out places. My entire body constantly feels drained. I feel some moments after I have just woken up where I feel great and energetic and happy. But then that all goes away within about an hour or less. It is so depressing. I wish I had some answers. This video description sounds very much like what I go through.
Have you gotten tested for sleepapnea? May be a cause. Some irregular breathing patterns may also cause issues. Look into "The Breathing Cure". Something as simple as taping your mouth when you go to bed may help.
I have sleeping problems and it ruins me entirely. My mental health is not good, and I just cry because I can’t go to sleep. I’m worried about my health and it takes 45m to 3h.
Hello, we're sorry to hear about your circumstances. If you feel that anxiety and stress could be causing you not to sleep, it could be an option to talk with somebody who can help you improve your mental health, like a counsellor or psychologist. It would also be recommended to visit your GP for a medical check-up also, to rule out any underlying causes for your lack of sleep. Best of luck.
Never try to fight with your anxiety just accept your feelings like...it's ok if you are nervous it's ok if you're fearing or anything just accept it. If possible talk to someone at that time about what you feel. Try to be focused n positive all the time. If you aren't sleeping it's okay you're also alike others don't think you're diseased. Always try to focus your mind on what you are doing at that time.also try not to talk to yourself or over thinking. Stay Blessed

i am kind of like you on that like few years ago i started having trouble falling asleep at night even being on psych drugs of course extended release so while i am more tired during the day i am not even getting enough rest while i sleep i already have OSA. i haven't been able to find good cpap method hope newer options. i am sick of the added depression and missing out on good things and oh the headaches. i don't even drink a lot of coffee no energy drinks. i mostly drink G2's or water. at night i sometimes take a melatonin sometimes help me fall asleep faster but depends on how much actual rest and oxygen to brain i am getting. i had been on few sleep aids before but hallucinations are crazy and since i live alone no clue if had been sleepwalking which possible side effect like no thanks that could be dangerous. sometimes i have last second things i need to do so when i take melatonin well anytime i take it not sure i have 8hrs of sleep i have tried going bed earlier but i just lay there restles toss and turn my legs bother me. i am def due for a sleep study consult to set up a sleep study i gotta call this monday been so busy but to reschedule the appointment i had for dec 11 due to snowstorm i have to rely on others mainly my mom for rides. i actually have been disabled since i was 24. i am 37 now. i legit though have my mom witness and a friend this was noticed more then when it was my friend i started to wonder so end of march i went down to florida to visit my dad after 2 days long story ended up thank god my friend lived so close to spend rest of my trip at her place which was more peaceful. so day of when i was to head back to airport to go home to massachusetts, i was just chillin with my friend and her son i was tired but weird for few minues i must have like zoned out because i swear i had just been talking with her and then i hear her saying are you ok i was like uhm what i think so. she said i had been staring off in like a trance and she kept trying get my attention i asked her how long and she said a couple of minutes like usually would zone back. afterwords i was like that was weird told my mom she said could have just been circumstance i was in why i stayed rest of my trip at my friend's but then when i started falling asleep sitting up while talking to my mom and her shaking me awake which still dozed right back off and i tell you i swear i could hear her talking. so freaky. i do need a sleep schedule but i need better therapy for my mental health and maybe some med tweaking still need find a psych had one he left and place i went to just up and closed down not long after. and i need cpap therapy if possible probably. i think my migraines would be less occurance. speaking of headaches ugh it's my med time anyway. also doesn't seem to matter when i take my meds on getting to sleep for bedtime.
Nah that's just fucked up sleep schedule. Keep aside the phone by 10 pm and try to sleep. Continue this for 28 days n then it'll become a habit. Easier said than done i know. But hey anything good is not easy to do.
i find myself sleeping from 9am to 6pm and then starting my day and i feel very energized for a few hours and then i’m dead tired again and i don’t understand
I was happy, and I had a normal life until 4 days ago. I felt sleepy about 2 hours before my nap time so I gave in and took a nap. The naps last about 15 minutes, but I wake up feeling extremely sleepy. Yesterday I decided to fight my sleep. It gave me the worst headache I ever had, and a nosebleed last night that I slept through. I can only stay awake long enough to get 1 or 2 things done. I was playing the piano for 4 to 8 hours a day. Now I'm too sleepy to do what I enjoy the most. If I get depressed, then it will be from sleeping too much. I'm already yawning again.
I used to got to bed at 10pm than at time sleep until 5pm the next afternoon. Most of the time I would have trouble falling asleep. The first time I sleep longer than 15 hours I was 17

Being sleepy is ruining my life! I get an euphoric feeling when the sleepiness comes on between 2-4 pm - It’s the same effect as taking a Xanax. I HATE feeling like this daily! I’ve always been like this since my teen years, now I’m 44 and it’s only gotten worse. The euphoria started happening within the past 5 years. I can sleep 19 hours.
I have same thing. I read there is a molecule discovered in the spine thats common with us hypersomniacs in that acts on GABA. This "sleep euphoria" also happens when I wake up or try to sleep and is the reason I sleep/again so much, it is like a drug but the consequences are wrecked day/night rhythm and problems attending meetings, school and work, etc. Also the strange thing is that coffee makes me so sleepy. This is not normal. 3pm fatigue is a BIG problem for me if I wake up at 9am. I can sleep between 10 to 20 hours. I am on disability, but now I try to study to become something, but I pray to God that I will do it. There is no treatment other than using heavy stimulants, even Modafinil doesn't work.
My daughter has this condition and it almost ruined her life... Thank god she saw a doctor and began treatment.... Hers caused her brain to not want to go to sleep or wake up, the transition was very difficult for her brain....i have sleep apnea and my son sleeps with open eyes...
Rawan El-Kady she was on expensive meds that put her to sleep n woke her up... A sleep med with a amphetamine to wake her but she couldn't get insurance to pay 1000 a month so she takes a sleep med and stays on a rigorous schedule which does help... Her sleep disorder is called hypersomnia which is a "cousin" to narcolepsy... Or a form of it... Her brain has trouble waking and falling to sleep or the transition... Also they tend to be.programmed for being awake at night cause the brain falls asleep with daylight... A reaction to the sun...very strange, she also has a slight sun allergy... Really strange stuff.... But it caused disruption in her life, being late for work, school or absences... Getting up to feed her son, but no matter what u did, she was like comatose, absolutely not workable... It's what prompted her to see a sleep specialist.... I hope this helps...
Dear Chanhal, if you're having problems maintaining a regular sleep pattern, book an appointment with your doctor as there are treatments to help you with this! Best wishes, The TD Team

I sleep so often, I always need naps and they last for hours. I never had this problem but it just randomly happened and now I can’t last throughout the day without sleeping, I sleep at least 12 or more hours a day. I’ve became moody and lost my appetite, because of that I get nauseous from eating the smallest bit of food- I’m not sure if I should take this serious or wait it out...

Extremely hard to live with at this point. The kids are older and resent him being present but absent. I just want to share something that might help. I suffered from hypersomnia for almost 6 years and couldn't find a solution to treat it. I read somewhere that avoiding sugar and gluten might help. I tried it, and within a few days, I started feeling better when waking up. My overall feeling improved. Just avoid sugar, gluten, and oil. Here's what I eat in a day, along with exercise: Rice Egg Fish (cooked without oil) Vegetables Fruits (avoid very sweet fruits)

I’ve been trying to seek help for years now. Absolutely miserable process along the way. Took an entire year to get sleep study and narcolepsy studies done to have them ruled out. I got a Positive diagnosis of hypersomnia over a year ago and my doctor said there’s nothing that could be done other than take stimulants from a psychiatrist. He told me “just check your mirrors while driving and try to stay awake.” I was defeated and gave up. Eventually out of desperation I saw the psych iatrist who was not a specialist. Prescribed me pills in less than 10 minutes, only worked for 1 day before returning back to excessive sleepiness. When I told the Psychiatrist she gave up and said I need to find a specialist. I’m getting bounced around like a ping pong ball, nobody seems to know how to help me.
I can't sleep at night, but as soon as sunlight hits, my eyelids become heavier, and i can sleep in like 60 seconds. I tried keeping myself awake for the whole day, just to sleep at night, but no matter how much tired or longer i've been awake, i can't sleep at night.

I feel like I am insomniac and hypersomniac at the same time. Sometimes my palms starts itching. I am nowadays being extremely sensitive to things, and have emotional burst outs. What should I do? I am just sick of it😫
I need an explanation, sometimes when i study too much, for example one day before chemistry exam i studied very thoroughly, and later when I went to my bed I was unconscious and conscious at the same time? I was using my pillow as a book and uttering random things related to what I had studies. It is so upsetting to find out that I have no control and I cannot sleep properly. Usually I suddenly get awakened and realise the odd issue.
What is the best time to sleep at night and wake up in the morning? Can someone help me please? I watch RUclips videos until 2-3 every night and wake up 11 or 12 🙈
I would recommend not to watch anything prior to going to sleep. Electronic devices give of blue light which can cause not being able to fall asleep. Watching videos keeps your brain active and sometimes that's also a reason for not being able to sleep. I'd suggest listening to calm music, or vibrations, meditation or a voice that you can fall asleep to, or read something before going to bed. Breathing exercises help a lot to fall asleep. The slower your breath becomes it will signals the brain to fall into a sleep state. Sometimes changing the furniture in your room, or your bed can help a lot as well. Don't drink a lot before going to sleep because you'll need to go to the toilet. Keep a bottle of water next to your bed though. They say the best time to sleep is usually around 9-10. I wouldn't suggest an alarm because the sudden disrupt of waking up by an alarm can cause even more tiredness since we usually have an automatic alarm in our brain. But if you do need to wake up at a certain time maybe a calmer sound for an alarm will help, or you can ask someone to wake you up.
I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Hypersomnia in 2017, after a lifetime of complaining to various doctors who told me nothing was wrong. I sleep approximately 10 - 12 each night, and go to bed between 6pm - 8pm every night. If I don't get a minimum of a 2 hour nap each day, I'm unable to function. My doctors won't prescribe any medication besides Vyvance, which just made my sleepiness worse. So I have to work part-time, limit my physical activity, and disappoint my kids daily because I'm so tired. It's worsened as I've aged, especially after age 30, and again after age 40.
i'm afraid to go to sleep now ive been sleeping too much lately and sometimes i dont know if im dead or alive awake or dreaming and sometimes i cant even control my thoughts and actions

I sleep anywhere from 16-22 hours a day and still sleepy. This has been going on for 15 years. NOT ONE DOCTOR has suggested a sleep study. They just say I'm depressed and give me meds, ie antidepressants, ritalin & provigil to keep me up and I drink 5 hr energy whenever I am awake. But I can still sleep through it all. My life is worthless. 😴😪
During the weekdays, I sleep at 4am then wake up at 7am for classes, then sleep at 3pm to 8pm to catch up. During the weekends, I sleep at 7am and wake up at 5pm. My sleep schedule is so messed up. But being at the final year of school, I have so much work to do, it becomes impossible to sleep at before 11pm. I don't know what to do. I'm really scared and worried.
They are spraying the skys with heavy metals like barium Alluminum and lithium. Its results in many people are a feeling of lethargy and uselessness. This is becoming more and more normal I see it in the children more so than ever. Kids usually are full of energy you cant slow them down, but recently the kids are always tired and want to stay home. It's crazy
I move and talk while sleeping.. I wake up flailing my arms.. kicking my legs.. doing the the "swiping" on a cell phone (I'm not actually holding) .. laughing.. crying.. I'm always exhausted.. like .. very unnatural exhaustion
I think that most of you are going to sleep at the wrong time. Instead of staying up late at night get in the bed early. Regulate your circadian clock with melatonin. Create a sleep pattern and your long sleep should shorten drastically. The problem is that most of you screwed up your clock by having unhealthy sleeping habits and always staying up late. There is nothing wrong with you. Get in the in the evening not at night.
Perhaps. But there are also people who are naturally morning persons and are high energy during the day which has nothing to do with self discipline nor conscious choices they made about when to go to bed. On the other hand, I worked as a late night security job and it was absolutely effortless and enjoyable for me to work those hours, while the same schedule could be very difficult for a 9 to 5 person to adjust to.
i sleep almost all day... i get sleeping attacks... i was super good in studies bt now i think my mind becomes weak... i can understand anything, cant focus on studies... its totally ruin my life... gain alot of weight... dont know wht to do... everyone make fun of me like i'm doing some kind of drama...
i think i have fatigue which is caused by me never working out (most likely) or narcolepsy, im not a self diagnoser and the only "symptom" i have is waking up tired, ive slept 3 times and each time i was still tired
if you could please tell about cause of my problem. I sleep at night for long hours and feel sleepy at daytime too and I can't control myself from sleeping now.
2 years ago I was burn out from work and during medical checkup, doctor suggested me to seek phycologist because I started sleeping excessively. Which then i learn about hypersomnia. It's killing my mental health, routine and productivity as well as my career. 2:50 exactly what I felt.
I use to regularly get 6 hours and that's all I needed. Now I can sleep 10 get up do one or two things and be ready to nap. Sometimes I'll lay down for an evening nap and wake up the next day. It's so random. I have also become more comfortable being nocturnal, and get insomnia. So I guess I'm a Hyoersomni Insomniac because my mind and body will not tune to routine anymore. Last year Covid lock down made it worsen.

My mother is 82 ,up until a year /18 months ago she would be up between 8-9 am ,but She is now sleeping through to the afternoon, something she has never done before. She started to have memory problems around the same time and we have yet to get a diagnosis of Alzheimer's etc ,a CT scan has detected small blood vessel disease and some brain .atrophy . Could this possibly be the cause? The disease destroying the internal clock in the brain . Could it be heart problems
hahahahaha ok when you said sticking socks in the fridge that was just so funny because the other day I found a sock in the fridge I think it was my mum
My roommate is 74 he is bi-polar. He sleeps 16+ hours every day. He does not seem depressed. He cannot control his sleeping, even during the day. When he is awake he is not very active but he is capable of doing normal activities. He does not sleep particularly well, he gets up to use the bathroom every 3 or 4 hours. His hips ache, I assume from sleeping so much. I feel that if he was able to stay up during the day he would sleep better at night. His doctors have no idea what is going on. His overall health is not bad, blood tests and such are relatively normal. He sees a psychiatrist occasionally and he says he does not think the sleeping is psychological. His general practitioner seems to have no clue what is going on. He retired at 60 and quickly began to sleep for very long stretches so this has been going on for years. I believe this is starting to affect his mental functioning somewhat as well as his physical health. Do you have any suggestions as to what might be going on?

I sleep 12 hours a day too.

Maybe you’re anaemic? Try taking some tablets/medicine because that’s been helping me quite lately too.
Have you gotten tested for sleepapnea? May be a cause. Some irregular breathing patterns may also cause issues. Look into "The Breathing Cure". Something as simple as taping your mouth when you go to bed may help.
Same I keep yawning all the time jeez
45 minutes to 3 hours sounds line a fantasy to me. For me it takes several hours.

i am kind of like you on that like few years ago i started having trouble falling asleep at night even being on psych drugs of course extended release so while i am more tired during the day i am not even getting enough rest while i sleep i already have OSA. i haven't been able to find good cpap method hope newer options. i am sick of the added depression and missing out on good things and oh the headaches. i don't even drink a lot of coffee no energy drinks. i mostly drink G2's or water. at night i sometimes take a melatonin sometimes help me fall asleep faster but depends on how much actual rest and oxygen to brain i am getting. i had been on few sleep aids before but hallucinations are crazy and since i live alone no clue if had been sleepwalking which possible side effect like no thanks that could be dangerous. sometimes i have last second things i need to do so when i take melatonin well anytime i take it not sure i have 8hrs of sleep i have tried going bed earlier but i just lay there restles toss and turn my legs bother me. i am def due for a sleep study consult to set up a sleep study i gotta call this monday been so busy but to reschedule the appointment i had for dec 11 due to snowstorm i have to rely on others mainly my mom for rides. i actually have been disabled since i was 24. i am 37 now. i legit though have my mom witness and a friend this was noticed more then when it was my friend i started to wonder so end of march i went down to florida to visit my dad after 2 days long story ended up thank god my friend lived so close to spend rest of my trip at her place which was more peaceful. so day of when i was to head back to airport to go home to massachusetts, i was just chillin with my friend and her son i was tired but weird for few minues i must have like zoned out because i swear i had just been talking with her and then i hear her saying are you ok i was like uhm what i think so. she said i had been staring off in like a trance and she kept trying get my attention i asked her how long and she said a couple of minutes like usually would zone back. afterwords i was like that was weird told my mom she said could have just been circumstance i was in why i stayed rest of my trip at my friend's but then when i started falling asleep sitting up while talking to my mom and her shaking me awake which still dozed right back off and i tell you i swear i could hear her talking. so freaky. i do need a sleep schedule but i need better therapy for my mental health and maybe some med tweaking still need find a psych had one he left and place i went to just up and closed down not long after. and i need cpap therapy if possible probably. i think my migraines would be less occurance. speaking of headaches ugh it's my med time anyway. also doesn't seem to matter when i take my meds on getting to sleep for bedtime.
Same dude
Nah that's just fucked up sleep schedule. Keep aside the phone by 10 pm and try to sleep. Continue this for 28 days n then it'll become a habit. Easier said than done i know. But hey anything good is not easy to do.

I feel the same and I am scared

Deanne Kleine can you tell me the treatment she took please?
Rawan El-Kady she works at home from a computer now so keeps her own schedule pretty much....

I do the exact same thing.....its normal

Have u found any proper treatment for this problem yet?

I am going to try your suggestion, btw. It can't hurt to try.
Pretty sure most of us have tried this obvious solution- it’s bigger then that. Not a willpower type thing.

music come in and suddenly i fall asleep
I use to regularly get 6 hours and that's all I needed. Now I can sleep 10 get up do one or two things and be ready to nap. Sometimes I'll lay down for an evening nap and wake up the next day. It's so random. I have also become more comfortable being nocturnal, and get insomnia. So I guess I'm a Hyoersomni Insomniac because my mind and body will not tune to routine anymore. Last year Covid lock down made it worsen.

Hi doctor . I just happened to stumble here cause I always feel sleepy and tired even when I just woke up or even at noon . Its affecting my school schedule because I feel like I'm always sick and most of the time it affects my moods . What am I going to do ? Am I sick 😭
I used to sleep a lot but things are getting out of hands during this lockdown. I slept at 4 am woke up at 11 am then again slept at 3 pm and woke up at 9:30 pm and this irregualr sleep pattern is getting out of hands, whenever i wake up from these long naps I hve no energy to do any work I'm still tired, it's so bad I'm behind a lot of schoolwork it's drastically affecting my grades and not being able to do anything just makes me feel so useless and pathetic
It's been hard to me to sleep at night, whatever it is better to find a solution to make myself really tired on the day period just to get a decent sleep at night!
I sleep early but still manage to wake up late my alarms don't work or i just wake up and go right back
Ah man I always get tired at night, I just don’t know how to not get tired at night
Dr I'm the USA can I book an appointment by phone would it help? Is urgent could you help if I'm this far? Or do I need to be physically there.
I slept for a good 8 hrs today, but still was sleepy in the day. So I took a 3hr nap. I thought it was just too much
I swear this weekend I sleep 15 hours on Friday and 16 hours on Saturday
