Further conclusions: if you are prone to drinking and using drugs, as I believe the three of them were, just buy some steaks at Safeway and grill them 30 feet from the house.
@@disciple2742 yeah he is the one who is not intelligent. It’s not the dumb asses drinking with shotguns, they are the smartest people in human history, right? I have many friends that drink and hunt but never at the same time. Especially on a pac hunt in Montana mountains for elk.
Sad. While SAR is out there putting in hard work, committed to finding and saving Aaron's life, his hunting partners were busy trying to cover their tracks so they wouldn't be issued a citation...
My father in law is a retired NPS Ranger. He told me that among the people who get themselves in trouble outdoors, by far the most common factor is drinking. Ask anyone who does law enforcement or search and rescue in parks and wilderness areas, and I think they'll tell you the same thing.
I agree, but i think you have to add mental illness or temporary physcosis to alcohol consumption. Those two things alone account for a big percentage of missing individuals.
Just want to say thank you for providing a more complete story. I get really aggravated with the Missing 411 stories because it seems like there's almost always something left out or misrepresented. So, thanks again for doing this justice. My heart goes out to Aaron and his family and friends.
He intentionally leaves out spicy details at least for the couple he used in the movies. Some of his stories he finds are fairly strange it is a bad look tho
Does he really leave information out? I wonder why. I find his videos difficult to listen to because he wastes so much time talking about audience letters, or gifts audience members have sent him, or stories about his personal life, and his videos often play ads every 5 minutes. He also complains that RUclips is restricting his audience and unsubscribing people. I just want to hear the stories.
As someone who's had to deal with an abusive family member who's an alcoholic/suffered bouts of DT, sometimes you WISH they were dead, and Greg and Joe probably had the same thoughts on their mind about Aaron. Joe's thought process probably went like this: he was weary of the idea of letting Aaron come along at first, got tired of Aaron's shit, didn't care if he got lost, and eventually felt guilt after going through the whole SAR situation. I'm not excusing the two friend's behavior, for all I know they really were just scummy people to begin with, but their seemingly willful abandonment of Aaron is explainable.
This is like a completely different story than the one in the 411 movie, Greg and Joe seem incredibly sus. None of this extra info about Aaron's personal issues was in the movie, along with so many important details.
Paulides is an egotistical, greedy, hack. I used to like him, but then he started to grate on me with his constant condescending tone. All the facts left out of this case just confirm some of my feelings. I should have know he wasn't trustworthy from the beginning. He IS an ex-cop, after all. Lying is their lifeblood. (Edit: I'm not going to delete it, but I realize my cop statement was harsh and unfair. Sorry, folks.)
I agree with you, OP. I'm kind of pissed that Paulides left out the alcoholism, the inexperience, the two friends abandoning him and other important information about what happened. Someone else mentioned in the comments that Paulides purposely steered this tragedy into a paranormal event. Think about it...These two guys go with a friend into a mountain range that has a reputation of being haunted. The friend is an alcoholic that is taking medication to help stop his drinking. He brings a lot of alcohol with him on the trip. They get into an argument with him. They let him go off on his own. He never returns to camp. The friends leave and go home then ask his wife a strange question. I think there is a lot more to the story than what we know or are being told. What really happened? That's the $64,000.00 question.
Maybe he went into withdrawls his friends didnt want to deal with it left him amd decided to go back to check the stash thinking he might have went there
I think the whole lying thing makes it worst, a person is lost and they didny provide accurate info to help the S&R people. Nothing matter till the person is found
I've been camping and backpacking, you don't let people leave the group like that, even people you may not like, you always pair up because its so easy getting separated without reliable service or comms. Especially with alcohol in the mix you never want someone separated from the group.
I don't see that at all. If his wife and his brother were also saying he was drinking heavily and on a new prescription I'm not seeing how what they're saying is incorrect
I have been in SAR for almost twenty years, mostly K9 SAR and I cannot count how many times people ended up outside the search zone, going much further than the missing person statistics say as far as average distance traveled, even old folks and kids.
Yea but also in the most missing person's cases, they are outside the SAR zones by impossible lengths so it doesn't add up, how would they get there when it's not humanly possible?
As a Montana bowhunter myself who spends 3 weeks every year in the backcountry in September, I have this to offer: The Crazy Mountains have limited public access and as mentioned in the video, much of that area is a checkerboard of one mile square public and private land sections. The large private ranches that surround the interior public land are known as a haven for elk. These factors invite hunters to hike into the interior of the Crazy mountains and then hunt the boundaries of these private areas. In many cases that I am aware of, the hunters' intent from the start is to use a public trail to access the more remote, private areas of these ranches. Its very possible, if not likely, that Aaron's group intended to hunt private land.. and camped on it or near it and were then reluctant to disclose their actual campsites, fearing legal retribution. Wounded elk too often travel long distances, sometimes even miles, after being hit by an arrow. Because of the patchwork of small public/private land sections in the Crazies it is very possible that they did shoot the elk on public Forest Service and then trailed it to where it died on private. Legally, they should have attained permission to retreive the elk but in September the hours if not days required to contact the owner guarantees the elk meat would be spoiled by the time they attained permission. Most hunters in that situation, especially due to the remoteness of the location, would choose to save the meat and retrieve the elk. Either way, I think this, not a coverup of Aaron's murder explains their behavior. In regards to leaving Aaron without a search; by the time they butchered and packed up the 700 lb elk and moved camp and hiked a lot of mountain miles they would have been tired and would prioritize getting the elk out before it spoiled. They were probably miffed at Aaron for taking off (his decision) and had a day of departure planned that needed to be met. Like most people, they probably had work or other upcoming activities that required their departure on Wednesday. It is also very possible that Aaron HAD hiked out past them while they retrieved the elk. I have been in their boots and its is very frustrating when you have someone in your party that doesnt make a planned rendevouz on time, or spends the night out there because they shot an elk and it was too late to return to camp.. etc etc. Decisions have to be made and 99.9% of the time the person is fine and shows up or hike out to a ranch and catches a ride back to the car. The Crazies arent that big and you will eventually walk out onto a ranch or cabin. The backpack and bow leaning against a tree is perplexing but its possible that Aaron was trailing a wounded elk and set them down temporarily while he looked for a blood trail. That happens a lot when an elk is not badly hit and drops of blood can be hundreds of feet apart. Its easy to keep following the blood trail and suddenly find yourself a half mile from your gear. A storm comes up and your disoriented and cant find your way back. The fact that a bear buried the body also adds the possibility that Aaron was killed by a bear. He may have been following a blood trail, or taking a bathroom break and been attacked. The bear also may have just been scavenging the body but the fact that it covered the bdy with dirt implies that the body was fresh and the bear planned on returning to resume eating it. Black bears (common in the Crazies) do not usually attack humans but there are many known cases of black bears killing people. There have also been rare reports that some Grizzly bears may now inhabit the Crazy mountains. Finally, when hypothermia sets in, prople do strange things. I was hiking on Mt Ranier in WA at about 10,000 feet when a freak storm blew in. I was prepared and hunkered down for a couple of hours until it blew through. A couple of days later I read that two men had died of exposure just a few hundred yards from where I had sat. They were dressed in shorts and T shirts. But they found their packs with tents and sleeping bags nearby the bodies. All they had to do was set up the tent and climb into their bags. No one knows what they must have been thinking or not thinking. A man, whose family was stuck in the winter in a car in the Oregon forest , left on foot for help. They found him naked and dead in a stream. As the body begins to fail, blood leaves the core and floods the frozen extremeties creating a painful burning sensation. Lack of mental facilities also is a common side effect of hypothermia. As the sheriff stated, many mistakes were made by this group that resulted in a tragic death. I dont think Aaron was attempting suicide. I think he missed the cutoff trail to the lake.. kept going expecting to find it at any time and found himself too far down the trail to return. The next morning he might have saw an elk or likely heard an elk bugle (common in September during the rut) in the distance and went after it.. leaving his boots by the trail.. intending to return that way eventually. He might have followed the elk too far , or shot it and was following a blood trail and ended up near the ranch. If following a wounded elk onto private land he may have chosen to set down his bow and backpack ( I would have) before crossing the fence so as to not give the owner the impression that he was still actively "hunting" if seen .. just "searching"for a wounded elk. Now without his pack and bow, he may have become disoriented and got caught in the storm or attacked by the bear. Just my 2 cents but I think the story is probably closer to this scenario than something nefarious. As for the two buddies returning to the camp.. I'm sure they felt guilty and were just trying to make sure Aaron didnt make it back there after the storm. I probably would have done the same thing if I was in their shoes.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences. It was very helpful to hear from a fellow bowhunter who is familiar with the area that this tragedy transpired.
Me and my brother like to hike in the Mountains, but it’s no joke. I don’t get why they let him go off by himself if they knew he wasn’t in good shape. Always stick together in the wilderness especially if you’re not fit and or experienced.
My friend and I split up numerous times in these 411 hotspots. It baffles me as to how we never became missing 411 cases. I guess the difference is we go with the intent of getting lost.
Always carry a weapon - force multiplier out in the wild , I learned the hard way , crony & I got flanked about 1/2 mike from parking grounds and had minimum of 2-3 “ THINGS “ on our 6 and 12 , possibly our 3- 9 ? Coulda been our nervous boots steppin it up , we had 4 hunting blades and a machete only .. about 200 yards to safe ground, we went full sprint to the lot and whoever/ whatever looked back for 10 minutes straight, just staring in disbelief .
I've said it before. This youtuber follows the facts without trying to substantiate bigfoot, green men or other distorted conspiracy theories. He also does not try to spin a story that he can cash in on. You have my full respect and are glad that someone is looking at these disappearances with respect for the facts and the relatives. @@macbeavers6938 Believing in God doesn’t necessarily disqualify Bigfoot or UFO encounters. They could all be demonic. @@ClickKlack43 Thanks for the input 43. I don't know if you believe in "channeling" or not, but "Ra" in The Law of One says that there are three types of Bigfoot. One of those three species is here on earth in case we on earth nuke ourselves "again". Apparently, Bigfoot can survive much better than humans after being exposed to radioactivity?? Who knows? I am just guessing like everyone else, but interdimensionality, if there is such a word, make the most sense to me.
This is a clear example of actual research and reporting based on what is available to the public. Many of the Missing 411 stories either lack deeper research or are intentionally left vague only to promote a mystery factor. This was very well done, calling the Sheriff to get further details, awesome. It's unfortunate people rather promote sensationalism vs actual research. This guy also has great story telling voice as well. What a solid piece of work!
@@zorazorazorzzora8333 OMG. 🙄 Why don't you talk about your opinion instead of bashing another channel & creator? Claiming, 411 leaves out things and sensationalizes others, is your opinion; but, it's extremely lame. So, not cool.
This fellows videos has changed my mind on 411..I was starting to question it as the same descriptions were nearly always played out..I.E,the missing are normally described as ‘super nice and intelligent with no personnel or mental problems, that know the outdoors so well’..Some cases I really think the police need to question witnesses more..Also I just do not believe in Bigfoot or U.F.O’s and when I’ve commented on David’s channel the amount of really weird and nasty comments I’ve got back..This is from a channel that asks followers to take account of all and everyone’s opinion..But David himself though claiming he doesn’t know, steers some paranormal reason to every case..But if there is some crime involvement in some of those cases,as I come to believe..Then this could cloud investigation. What this channel does is with intense research and no fear of 411 is find its own conclusions..Conclusions that don’t need spaceships and Bigfoot…
@@lolitagrant6751 what they said makes sense in the context of this video, why would such key details be left out the 411 covering of this case? This person was sharing their opinion, just because you dont agree does not make it hate.
Exactly this. I used to listen to all of Paulides radio interviews and was very interested in this topic. What flipped it all for me was Geraldine the inch worm that got lost on the Appalachian trail. He made her sound like this expert hiker that just vanished. Well it was left out that the woman that was with her that had to leave early said she was terrible on the trails and had a terrible sense of direction. Turns out she left to trail to use the restroom and got lost, then made a campsite where she eventually died around a month later. She and her site were found a few years later where she kept a journal that said what happened. I’m sure a couple of them are truly mysterious cases, but the majority of them are just people that got lost in the woods and were unprepared. He does tell a great story though I’ll give him that.
@@lolitagrant6751 did you watch this video? It’s not an opinion it’s a fact stuff was left out of this case. He said nothing about the friend stating she was awful on the trail and shouldn’t have gone it alone.
Thank you for sharing this narrative as a way of clearing up the circumstance of Aarons disappearance. I spent a few weeks as the grandparent of a child on the soccer team he coached. And many Saturday mornings watching how he had fun teaching the kids how to play. His wife and family deserve to know how his life came to an end as it did. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
As a “dry” alcoholic I can say without doubt that Aaron needed hospitalization before the trip. Alcohol withdrawals are deadly. I’m a retired Marine and have seen my fair share of remote fire bases from the US to SE Asia in various weather conditions and cannot imagine being alone and going through withdrawals without succumbing to a combination of the mental and physical effects, as well as the weather. We called victims like Aaron “UDOs”, Unidentified Dying Objects. I believe he never stood a chance.
Wow. I'm also a dry alcoholic. Somehow, by the grace of our creators, I didn't have any withdrawals when I quit. I've seen them though and I agree with you. He should have been hospitalized. People die from withdrawal even with good care. I wish his friends hadn't let their anger and frustration get the best of them. He needed them and they just couldn't/wouldn't see it.
@@MT-if1jr Exactly. Alcohol withdrawal is one of the most dangerous detoxification you can do. It's worse than Heroin ffs. You can't go cold turkey off alcohol, especially if you're a MASSIVE alcoholic. Going out into the wilderness was the worst thing they could have done for this guy.
@@roryslaine7896 And his "friends" knew about his alcohol issues and withdrawals and still brought him along, and repeatedly saying negative things about him. It's almost like they let him go along so that exactly this scenario would happen.
Yeah I feel like people are unfairly targeting the friends is if they killed him, it's pretty clear that the guy have major problems and going on a hunting trip to detox was a very very bad idea. I imagine he felt like he didn't have a lot of options
This was so professional and well done, thank you for this highly interesting update and analysis to this case. Many thanks and looking forward to more videos!
I agree. Your research and investigation is very evident and much appreciated. This is from a 20 year LE veteran. Well done. Keep up the great work. God bless you.
Thank you for providing a completely new perspective on this case, really does change everything. There was never any mention of what a troubled soul Aaron was,or just how misleading his friends stories were, this video was a real eye opener. A mystery perhaps, but no longer sounds like a paranormal mystery, great work.
I appreciate all the effort you go to bring extra content to these stories! Contacting police and actually going to areas where people are found, it brings A Lot to the story! Excellent job.👍✅
I really appreciate the detail of your investigations. I've seen this story a couple times from different creators and yours is by far the most thorough. Puts a lot of the mystery to rest.
The equipment Aaron had and they found does not represent a guy strung out on Alcohol, pills. The year Aaron went missing the Badlands pack , Bow tech Patriot bow, badlands Binocular case, the 44 mag. These items were among the best available or best item the Manufacture made. Hearing the guy say Aaron was not prepared because he could not hit a target on hay bale at 10 yd while at campsite? First of all if Aaron had the Patriot bow by Bow tech and it was sighted in he would have had to work hard when shooting to miss entire bale of hay. 2nd why in the hell did these idiots pack a hay bale into the camp? NO, not for the animals to eat, it would have spent more energy hauling in that received eating, You don't do that packing in hay bales. Those 2 buddies are worthless, said they all were drinking and so-called buddies knows Aaron's drinking issue so they drink around him, let him walk off drunk? Piles of shit they are.
It definitely seems like they killed him to me. This is not how you do things when your friend disappears and may be going in to DTs in the wilderness. This is exactly how people behave after a murder. I would have a lot of trouble believing anything else.
I first heard this 'crazy' case when it was covered by David Paulides. And a very sad and strange case it is. Thanks for yet another great video! Rest in peace, Aaron.
@@vikingsilverspikes5286 I just don’t understand why DP left out so many important facts in his presentation of this case. It really makes me question his motives.
So suspicious that the “friends” just left and never searched for him.Telling the wife that she should call the police and file a missing persons report when they were the ones who were last with Aaron when he disappeared is weird. Who just doesn't look for there missing friend?! They we're cold and callous towards the wife. Plus the fact that they went back when they were told not to is strange. If they were normal friends and were so worried he was dead they would of searched high and low for there friend. Lying and giving wrong coordinates is another reason I think they know more than their saying. I also find it disturbing and a red flag when the surviving family/person/friends start badmouthing or speaking ill of the missing or dead individual. Expecially since no one asked that. It's like they went out of there way to shape it into "oh he's just a drunk" and made him seem like a complete asshole. It's a way to deflect from themselves and to try and lean detectives towards him being drunk and possibly falling, getting lost, or something. They said Aaron was being combative and acted pissed off but this is only coming from there word of mouth. We don't know if that's actually what happened. Why bring alcohol and drink while camping when you know your friend has a serious problem with drinking!? That is just stupid and cruel to do to a supposed "friend". Who's first response to a wife of a missing friend is asking if "Aaron is still alive!?" These are more than just bad friends or negligence. Aaron had a pistol and bow with him yet he still didn't make it back? He didnt try to fire his gun? If it was a animal or him falling I would think he would of used his pistol to either kill the animal if it was attacking him or to fire his gun to draw attention to his plight. Idk this doesn't seem like a 411 case to me, it sounds more like homicide. This is just my opinion.
In The Cask of Amontillado another "friend" takes revenge for a minor or imagined slight by entrapping their friend and leaving them to die. And I find these two and their callousness towards the wife unnerving; it might have been intended as a joke but if I'm concerned that my friend is in danger or dead I wouldn't be joking. I feel like this might have been a successful cover-up, it makes me sick..
The public report doesn't share it, but they only casually mentioned Aaron's disappearance in a bar a couple days after it happened. And they were jerks to the ranch owner who let them search on his property.
I have never heard of this case until last night when I watched Missing 411. Then this video popped up on my RUclips channel. I think you presented this case in a very professional and thorough manner. You answered some of the questions I had after watching the movie. Some of this should have been addressed in Missing 411, but for whatever reason was left out. Nicely done.

It just takes a sincere effort to dig into the nuts and bolts of the case to get a realistic picture. Thank you for this interesting case study!
Paulides leaves a lot out of these cases. The case of Bobby Bizzup is another. David limelight's this case in two books and his documentary but failed to state that all three councilors at the camp Bobby went missing from were later (all 3) convicted if sex crimes against children. In fact, the councilor who found Bobby's remains is the same councilor Bobby was last seen with. There is absolutely no way David "missed" this info as it's literally in the majority of articles out there about the case. So messed up.
Because it wouldn't make it fit with the Missing 411 stories. There are some stories from the 411 series that when you read into them, a LOT of information has been left out. Or it's been spun completely in a different way.
@@danielschuber4194 well they are at a campground. Perhaps Bobby was going to say something about being assaulted and the coucilor killed him. It would be easy for one or three of the councilors to dispose of the boy and then bring him to a already searched spot. It wouldnt be the first time the Catholic church protected child predators. You know? I find it highly suspect that the same councilor Bobby was last seen with also discovered his partial remains a year later. In a area that had been searched nonetheless.
@@MyLadyPanda you are absolutely right! The messed up thing is Paulides has a scape goat. Because he doesn't site his sources he could easily say that the articles he got his info from were at a local library on film and are no longer there. Or the website he used for the info is no longer available. I could see those being two options he uses to defend his work.
I really like that this channel takes a fact and evidence based view of these missing cases. I watch other missing channels where it is all scary music and innuendo. It's refreshing to have the facts presented and analyzed objectively and then clearly articulated as such. Great job!

I always wondered what was Aaron's mental state and home life issues and if that had something to do with him leaving his hunting group. It sounds like his friends weren't helpful at all. In addition, Missing 411 never mentioned his drinking problem and the texts during the trip. Interesting. That filled in a lot of the missing puzzle pieces. Thanks!

Despite the suspicion surrounding the actions of the two friends, I'm really more inclined to believe the fabricated elements of their side of the story are due to them having illegally hunted an elk, rather than any foul play. Hunting infractions can carry some hefty fines, and both wildlife officials and other hunters can take such matters very seriously. With everything that was happening on this trip, from the poaching, to the drug and alcohol abuse, I can see how things could have gone pretty wrong without the two friends having killed him (accidentally or otherwise).
It would have been easy to convince them they simply looked at the map wrong, or even blame the lost friend (since they blame him anyway) for looking at the map wrong. They obviously participated in illegally killing the animal and then they abandon their friend and lie to police some more. Why didn’t they just lie and say they looked at the map wrong instead of lying about all that other stuff? They got found out anyway. They had to have known they’d get found out eventually, why not make up an excuse and save your friend?
Absolutely, it’s very clear why they lied, and what they said about Aaron’s state is corroborated by his family and physician. It’s not being disrespectful to Aaron it’s being truthful, and entirely relevant to his disappearance. It’s actually really disgusting and unethical how DP conveniently left out those facts and pushed a false narrative. As someone who had a husband who lost his life to due to addiction as well, I’d be incredibly furious if I was Aaron’s wife and family. I can only imagine their thoughts on that
I hope Aarons soul is at peace, it sounds like he was battling a lot. It seems that the friends lied to cover the fact that they poached the Elk on private property, and they knew it, so they tried to avoid punishment. It was irresponsible of them to have continued the trip once it was obvious Aaron was in a bad way. But they were all adults and Aaron’s behavior made everyone uncomfortable. They have to live with the knowledge that they didn’t do enough, including Aarons wife and family that knew he was going on this trip while experiencing a physical crisis.
I promise I will listen to it in a second, but thank you very much for sharing this and managing to reach such a large audience. And then obviously trying to further your knowledge on the case and watching my video. I was a part of the party who found the skull and I am so grateful for people who keep bringing the case up and informing more on the mysteries within it.
It’s a long shot but could still be a murder , it would be a unknown why they would go at such lengths to distance themselves from him knowing that he could die , and they lied once they could be again
could be that he pissed them off with his behavior so they just left him out there and lied to the cops about it for obvious reasons. whether that counts as murder idk.
Yeah, I just have a feeling that his "friends" really didn't give a shit about him at all. Or they had just had enough of his ridiculous, drunken behavior, told him to leave and then gave up on him? I'm not saying it's justified at all, but it is VERY hard to continue watching someone you know or love throw their entire life away by slowly killing themselves by using drugs or alcohol. Again, not saying it's justified, but maybe they were just sick and tired of his shit and just left him to fend for himself.
Great coverage of this case. My biggest critique of 411 type videos is that people often use the lack of evidence as evidence of the paranormal or foul play. Even if these are possible, not knowing what happened doesn't tell us anything.
Just saying this video was awesome! I loved Missing 911 the Hunted, but don’t recall such emphasis & possibly even mention of the alcoholism, medication and possible suicidal mental state of Aaron. Your details and way you laid it out was very informative & well done!
I watched the movie too and loved it but this video has so much more information and leads me to believe that Aaron's story is not so much of a Missing 411 but instead just one of those stories in which stupid choices got a person killed.
This video is amazing, especially after watching the account of the case in David Paulides' video. I think you do a superb job of clarifying what happened here.

I'm fascinated by the unfrortunate tragic mystery of people seemingly vanishing. I've watched this story twice and I won't mention by who. Obviously the first one is Pauladies. Despite hearing it twice from two different sources, I was ecstatic to click on the link to learn your angle on the mystery. I wasn't disappointed. You have added amazing details not covered in the first two. You're officially my sole source of learning about these mysteries. I recommend that to others too. Keep up the great work!
Keep up the great work! One of the few reliable unbiased channels of this genre. A little halfway decent research sheds new light on this sensationalized case. Most people (one with very questionable credentials) twist / leave out major facts for clickbait to peddle their cheesy overpriced books, DVDs etc.
Thank You, Thank You Thank You, I'm a retired Detective and this case has bothered me from the first time I heard it. I knew there had to be far more details than what was reported on 411, but then again, it wouldn't meet the narrative. I remember telling one of my colleagues while talking about this case was, He appeared to have had a psychotic break (the fact that he made no attempt to be found while within eyesight of civilization) and that the two others needed to be more thoroughly interviewed, and their statements reviewed by a statement analysis expert. I have my own story about Mr.411 and a case I was brought in on before I retired. I agree this is not a Missing 411, but I still have questions as to what all really happened between the three of them. I appreciate the effort you put into your work, very few real professionals out there.
Wow I just suggested this on your channel a couple hours ago. Very well done once again. I have followed Paulides from the beginning a decade ago and find that he is leaving out certain facts. Not sure why maybe to sell books. You always bring this topic back down to Earth which I appreciate very much.
@@RadagastBrown420 No. He's NOT! Mr. Paulides and his son (now deceased) dedicated their lives to investigating missing persons. And, he's the first person to look into the commonalities and trends between cases, locations, and the details of the cases. He's the ONLY person, actually investigating; travels to the sites where the people went missing, is able to speak with law enforcement and read their Case Files (due to his being a retired officer - something the rest of us can't do), and compares that to the media reports. He also interviews family, friends, witnesses, when possible. It's important for the victims (and their families), to have their stories re-told, to reignite interest, and prompt park officials and hikers to keep an eye out for evidence or clues. As for any conflicting information between reports by RUclipsrs, as a 25 year, retired policeman and professional investigator, with a degree, and years of experience, I'd trust his ability to investigate and report the details of a case, over story tellers, who watch CanAm Missing 411 Project to make their videos! [No disrespect to Brian. He seems like a very caring person, who is also passionate about cases, and tells the stories, eloquently and respectfully. However, he doesn't have the same professional experience, qualifications, or access to the same level of information, and that's just a fact.]

So glad you were able to give a much more balanced retelling of this tragic event. I have become less convinced about Paulides and his mysteries. While I cannot discount the inexplicable in many cases, he has been shown to be manipulating the narrative far too many times. The simplest solution is often the most likely and I find too many sweeping generalisations or assumptive statements to credit. As you pointed out, sometimes hunters have more than one pair of shoes, sometimes they get disoriented, sometimes the friends are lying, sometimes people who are lost do really bizarre things. Just because you can't imagine reacting in such a way doesn't mean it didn't happen. I can't imagine ever wanting to bow hunt elk, for example. Anyway, thank you for providing factual retellings with sensationalism minimised! Also, your illustrations are greatly appreciated!
I don't think Paulides is a conman, but rather he's often in a state of confirmation bias. He often says "very strange" about things that don't seem strange to me. I heard him relate the Dennis Martin case, and (as with this one) it was much more "2+2 is 5" than how it's approached on this channel.

I am a recent subscriber. The research and effort that you put into all of the vids you produce is very, very impressive. Exposing the 'missing pieces'...that were in plain site to the A Hedges case was a real eye opener for me regarding the 'missing 411' genre in particular. Your outstanding vocal delivery of the narrative that generally lacks personal opinions, as well as the excellent, original supporting artwork make this channel particularly worthwhile.
This isn't an inexplicable disappearance. Everything about how this guy died is explainable. This is a simple case of culpability. Who is responsible and why?
Ultimately, it’s Aaron’s fault for heading out there while going through addiction/withdrawal. He should’ve stayed on his couch and got clean. I suppose his friends should’ve told him not to come, but that’s tough with an alcoholic friend. You want to help him, you just don’t know what’ll be better for him: tough love or your company.
@@Special_Tactics_Force_Unit if you are the type of guy to bring people with you to the woods, I hope that you are the type to leave with them. It's a sin not to and completely void of any humanity. So it's maybe not a fault that I'm looking for, if you catch my drift. But there is fault in this case. And neglect. It even seems like down right intent to leave a person who they knew wasn't well ...in a position that would result in death. That right there might not be murder, but negligent homicide. So to answer your question...yes. it's entirely possible to die in the woods alone and it be someone else's fault. You don't take animals in the woods and leave them. You don't do it to humans either. They left him alone end he ended up dying. They didn't even go back to look until the authorities started to. And when they did it was most likely to cover the holes in their fake stories. For all we know dude didn't like the fact that those 2 assholes killed an elk on private property and was going to turn them in? The fact of him being a raging drunk would certainly make it easier to convince people that he was incapable. Well...I'm a raging drunk and I never once died hunting elk and deer with my bow. So, I find these two and their lies a little bit suspect. I want to know their hunting history as a group. I don't just hunt with nobody's. That's not how hunting parties work. You don't just hop in with a bow and say you are going hunting with a group of hunters.
There are many cases of disappearances that are genuinely mysterious. This one seems easily explainable by alcoholism and mental illness. Aaron should never have been invited along for a hunt, given his unstable condition. Alcohol and guns are a terrible combination.
Are you saying David presents factual inaccuracies? I have found that he will not include any information that he can’t verify as factual..sometimes he will mention them, but always with the proviso that he could not confirm the veracity or accuracy of the information.

So glad to see you having covered this case. I, like many others I imagine, first found out about it through 411 when the film came out, and the Hedges case was a really interesting one to me. Little did I know just how much Paulides completely left out and basically twisted the story into something completely different. I did kinda get suspicious of him though when he started talking about like... invisible monsters in trees and found out apparently he funded the hell out of a Bigfoot study or something. Absolute hack, it's disgusting how he basically used the tragedy of this clearly distressed person to sell more books about more half-truths. But it's a huge relief to see this case covered in a much more proper and informative manner, and I think to bring it to a pretty believable resolution.
The friends focusing on him "Still being alive" which they made the point of saying twice, in two recorded texts involving two different convo's is really suspect. I don't recall Hunters being so hyperbolic. They're aware of the dangers but why are they so convinced he could be dead? And if the journey was that perilous why did they allow him to go alone if he wasn't capable? And why does his 'intoxicated state' only come up at this point in the story? "We didn't go looking for a friend because he was acting out of character.. he was mixing alcohol with drugs, which we condoned, and decided to hold it against him as if it was a personal flaw of is. He was an asshole so we ditched him, even if he was in an altered state of mind and probably in need of an intervention and assistance." ... WTF??? My squiggly lines based on the details shared is telling me something went down with 3 friends and the two still alive are trying to cover it up. We don't know for sure that he indeed left for the other site to retrieve the gear, that fact is based solely on their testimony. And they disobeyed police orders and went conveniently to the spot where the cache is supposed to be found RIGHT before investigators arrived to confirm the existence of said cache? Seriously?? How was he at Sunlight when his arrows were found on the Private Ranch near to where the Elk was killed? The "Sunlight" excuse was a cover up and they went there against Police orders to plant the cache, because it was their only alibi.
P.D. S ~ U nailed it ! Especially ur second paragraph. They knew he was drinking yet they ask him to go hunting w/ them. WTF? There r red flags everywhere in their stories. Thanks for breaking it down even more.
You are spot on everything that you said. One of his so called friends convinced the other one to just piss on him and left him to fend for himself or either helped his demise along. Another thing that I don't get is who goes out in the wilderness without a way to make fire and stay warm if the need arose. I've never went hunting without the means to survive if an accident occurred. His two friends should be held accountable for neglect if nothing else.
@@dyamano no problem. Red flags everywhere, indeed. Thanks for the positive feedback. I’m just glad the police are keen to these factors, instead of being oblivious. It’s as if his community we’re indifferent and brought him out there to die.
I think it's important to note that based on the file, Aaron was prescribed Librium, which is prescribed for alcohol withdrawal, not for alcohol cravings. Typically Librium is given in an inpatient environment where a patient does not have access to alcohol, since mixing Librium and alcohol creates a synergistic effect. which amplifies the depressant effects on the central nervous system. It is not uncommon to lose consciousness or black out entirely while under the influence of both. I've worked in a CD program for about ten years and not once has one of our doctors prescribed Librium to an outpatient. Knowing this, Aaron's mental state doesn't surprise me at all. I swear, the more you actually dig into these cases, the more it becomes obvious that certain details are either minimized or omitted entirely by a certain exalted author in order to create more mystery and increase book sales. By the way, "don't buy them on Amazon" lol.
Very insightful. Thanks for offering a professional perspective. Lol exalted! Spot on. Say not his name lest his followers hunt you down and add you to the list of the mysteriously (but not really, cause they all agree it's bigfoot) missing.

So Joe and Greg cared more about getting caught on private property with the elk then finding their friend's body. Everything about this is fishy. Going through withdrawals in the middle of the forest alone ? Really? His so called friends abandoned him knowing his condition, they lied to the police multiple times, and blamed Aaron. Cold hearted and very sketchy to me.
Great job on this. Love the fact that you were able to explain away the very logical items that viewers who have no backwoods experience point out as red flags (bow hunters changing from hiking boots to soft shoes). It is very easy to look at these cases of unprepared or impaired people going into the wilderness and disappearing as something sinister but when you really understand the environment, climate and human behavior when under duress most of these cases come down to unprepared folk underestimating the "Wild" in Wilderness.
It's so nice to see that you're dealing with these cases rationally. I hope you continue to look into these mysteries as you aren't swayed by superstition or the supernatural. I actually contacted Paulides, just merely forwarding some ideas with no intention of getting a response. Or if I did get a response it would just be something like "thank you but as we are inundated with emails of this type others have mentioned similar ideas, etc..." What I got instead was that he tried to predict how I felt when reading the email and that I was in no way qualified to have any meaningful ideas for them. Had a sour taste in my mouth after that and gave away a little bit of his motives.
I lived there for many years. Actually I was living there when this took place but had never heard the story. I know the hunting dynamics of that area. There's a lot of elk up there, but also a lot of private land where the elk stay because it's safer for them. These three Einsteins went in there skirting around private property fully intending to dip into those private properties, unseen, get an elk, and get back out to Forest Service land hopefully without being seen. I believe that's why Aaron headed down to a lower elevation where it's private property, possibly following a group of elk, to where they found him. He most likely chased a group of elk for many miles not thinking about his well being because of his mental state and got caught out in the weather and died. All three of these guys were up to no good as far as hunting laws go, they were basically poaching.
Most plausible explanation of most of what happened, in fact it might of been Aaron who was determined to go where elk were Private property or not ...
So they leave their friend behind because of poaching an animal? No i dont buy it, plus the friends had their airplane mode on so their gps wouldn't pick up plus they went BACK there after being told not too, they know something they're not telling
Fascinating. I've now seen three different version of this story, and you have provided the most transparency and truth to this story. I had a theory about Hedges being most likely mental ill or had some condition base on the bits and pieces I gathered from the other videos, and my guess was correct about him. I enjoy the context and look forward to seeing more. I agree about providing theoretical scenarios, but if fans are curious about your content--I think it's fine to do so.
Great coverage of this event! I have heard/watched this story covered by many. Unfortunately, none in this great detail. The first time I heard this story was on a podcast and my first impression was he was murdered by his companions. After I watched the movie '411...hunted' I still felt he was murdered by his companions and that his belongings were staged long after the search was discontinued. Currently I am binging and digging your channel. Thanks for the great detail!
Fantastic deep investigation of this case. I believe a lot of these mysterious missing people have sad but explainable reasons for their disappearances. Love your work.
The friends likely didn't wanna be interviewed. At least not on camera. And Dave doesn't say much about this other than it's a very strange case. And it is.
I think they split up, because the 2 men told Aaron they were going to go onto someones private land to try and bag an Elk, and Aaron said screw you guys, im heading to the spot we were at last year, where we left that cash. The 2 men got an illegal elk, and bagged it up, and headed back to the truck and left, so as to not get caught poaching. Thats why they let him leave in the state he was in, because he was pissed at them, and they wanted an elk.
Thank you for this episode. I did watch Missing 411, The Hunted, otherwise I'd know nothing about this. Man oh man, he left out a bunch of information. I guess he really wanted it to seem like more of a mystery than it otherwise was. Makes me wonder what he left out about the other missing people. Any chance you'll do your own investigation into those other stories? I hope so.
Absolutely...I grew up in an area where everyone hunted. They literally closed school for a week at the opening of deer season because nobody showed up anyway. Very few of those people even knew how to properly handle a gun, let alone know how to navigate rugged and sketchy terrain or how to survive in situations where the weather suddenly turns bad or when they're lost and it gets dark. Most of the people I knew didn't even take any extra food or survival blanket for a worst case scenario. So qualifying as a hunter simply means you own a gun and know how to shoot it. That creates a lot of potential messes for people who don't know how to survive/navigate in isolated areas they're unfamiliar with (as is often the case, particularly when tracking.)
So much detail and great research on this case, the best telling of it on here for sure! I think his fellow hunters sound rather sketchy but seems the odds were against Aaron from the very beginning with the mule. Hard to believe they could not find his gear. Great drawings again and thanks for your fantastic work.
They tried to reason with him. He wouldn’t listen. He communicated that he was 7 miles past a point - and evidence supported the was where he thought he was. Aaron was not helpless. He was obstinate. They didn’t leave him. He left them. That’s two very different things. Were they supposed to tie him up, or slug him unconscious, and drag him out?
@@markmajka1877 He said he was about 7 miles away from where he wanted to be - and evidence supported that. He was not clueless or helpless, just stubborn and unfortunate.
With so called "friends" like this who needs enemies. They seem unbothered and annoyed he went missing. They may have killed him and went back to cover their tracks.
Aaron's "friends" are human garbage. They let him go on the trip, and were perfectly fine with letting him walk off alone. Then ask his wife "hey is he alive" what the hell? Thats not a normal response to have when a friend goes missing. Plus they lied about where exactly they were camping, they know more then they let on.
I don't think it's quite as insidious as you seem to think it is. I think it has little to do with them trying to hide something having to do with their friend's death. I get the impression that they were trying to mitigate and avoid anything that would lead to authorities discovering that they had bagged an unauthorized elk kill on private property. They would likely be facing hefty fines and possibly even some kind of charges from the property owners or jail time. For that purpose, it makes sense that they would keep things vague and lie about camping spots, so as to make sure they distance. themselves from the unlawful elk kill and trespassing. At the end of the day, it seems like they were still more concerned with not getting in trouble for that, more than trying to find their friend. You're correct that they're human garbage though, because at the end of the day, they looked to cover their asses for trespassing to kill an elk and ended up leaving out details that might've been useful to finding the guy sooner.
@@donnydogpiss4533 then how do they all the sudden get a conscience and go back and look for AAron, after the search had started and they were told not to? I think that was to plant the cache so their (now revised) story seemed true. They lied about the coordinates to the cache the first time? Why?... because they had some evidence to get rid of and a cache to plant. Its the only thing that makes plausible sense.

Alcohol withdrawal is deadly as is Benzo withdrawal.

Thank you for providing a completely new perspective on this case, really does change everything. There was never any mention of what a troubled soul Aaron was,or just how misleading his friends stories were, this video was a real eye opener. A mystery perhaps, but no longer sounds like a paranormal mystery, great work.
This story isn't any less chilling than before. It's just chilling for different reasons.
Same thoughts. Wouldn't be surprised if they had something to do with the disappearance

"Why didn't you look for your friend"
*Immediately attacks his character*
Red flag.
They killed him most likely. Probably banging his old lady.

Im wondering why Paulides never brought up his mental state/alcoholism. That seems like a huge thing to leave out.
@@MissingPersonsMysteries Bizup one does point me towards abuse probably, but why would they leave the boys body on a hill?
@@danielschuber4194 well they are at a campground. Perhaps Bobby was going to say something about being assaulted and the coucilor killed him. It would be easy for one or three of the councilors to dispose of the boy and then bring him to a already searched spot. It wouldnt be the first time the Catholic church protected child predators. You know? I find it highly suspect that the same councilor Bobby was last seen with also discovered his partial remains a year later. In a area that had been searched nonetheless.
@@MyLadyPanda you are absolutely right! The messed up thing is Paulides has a scape goat.
I can only imagine their thoughts on that
They probably didn't want to reveal their illegal activity, but also may not want to own up to their negligence regarding their friend.

I'm not saying it's justified at all, but it is VERY hard to continue watching someone you know or love throw their entire life away by slowly killing themselves by using drugs or alcohol. Again, not saying it's justified, but maybe they were just sick and tired of his shit and just left him to fend for himself.

No. He's NOT! So many more details! I agree that this case does not fit the 411 criteria.
I just want to say I’m so glad you’re demystifying this story. Kudos on some really awesome videos. This might be my favorite so far!
I really enjoy this format. You have a great way of putting these together.
Paulides is a conman.
@@RadagastBrown420 You know you love him really🤣
I don't think Paulides is a conman, but rather he's often in a state of confirmation bias. He often says "very strange" about things that don't seem strange to me. I heard him relate the Dennis Martin case, and (as with this one) it was much more "2+2 is 5" than how it's approached on this channel.
This video is why I love your channel! The facts surrounding this case makes so much more sense with this wealth of knowledge

Exposing the 'missing pieces'...that were in plain site to the A Hedges case was a real eye opener for me regarding
the 'missing 411' genre in particular. Your outstanding vocal delivery of the narrative that generally lacks personal opinions, as well as the excellent, original supporting artwork
make this channel particularly worthwhile.
The documentary it’s self leaves out sooo much detail , thanks for putting this up and giving more detail on this case
So glad people are talking about these cases, they shouldn't be forgotten. Not while the circumstances around their deaths remain unsolved.
This isn't an inexplicable disappearance. Everything about how this guy died is explainable. This is a simple case of culpability. Who is responsible and why?
They most likely knew how he died
If you die alone in the woods is it anyones fault but your own?
I really appreciate that you didn't just regurgitate this case from Missing 411. That series has been proven to have factual inaccuracies.
He's a bloviating conman , he talks and talks and says almost nothing.

He was an asshole so we ditched him, even if he was in an altered state of mind and probably in need of an intervention and assistance."
Yeah, no doubt, I'm glad I don't have any hunting buddy's like this, they definitely aren't the kind of folks I want to go hunting with!

Man, how the heck have I not seen this RUclips channel til today been watching these stories one after another and I love this!
Love thi# channel! Thank you for your hard work and dedication!
I've stopped listening to DP's vids.
I'll take "stuff that probably didn't happen on the Internet" for 500, Jim
This is the one that won the sub. Thank you for your truthful, respectful presentation of a very sad case.
Whatever problems this guy had it didn’t help that his “friends” didn’t seem to care much about him.
Do you like being around a drunken asshole?
Thanks so much for the video and info

Thank you, your videos really have put David in a new light. Honestly started raising my eyebrows when when he started bringing up politics.
I hope so.
Thank you for actually telling the truth about his case. Paulides always talks like hunters are so skilled and smart. I believe the complete opposite.

He is a conman.
They didn't feel he was prepared or in his right mind, but they left him on his own even though Aaron said he was lost.
He was experienced, he had no compass or know how to read the direction the sun was going.

With so called "friends" like this who needs enemies. They seem unbothered and annoyed he went missing. They may have killed him and went back to cover their tracks.
@@TheAshMcG that’s what I was thinking. It sure sounded like they might have helped him disappear.
It really seems like his friends set this whole thing up... They were aware that he was unstable, but they still let him go on his own.....
I was involved with this case. I agree with your conclusion and believe you are in the ballpark .
You were eh?
They are definitely irresponsible. That is for sure
Seemed weird the guy was mad at Aaron for not helping with the elk instead of being worried about him
@@donnydogpiss4533 then how do they all the sudden get a conscience and go back and look for AAron, after the search had started and they were told not to? I think that was to plant the cache so their (now revised) story seemed true. They lied about the coordinates to the cache the first time? Why?... because they had some evidence to get rid of and a cache to plant. Its the only thing that makes plausible sense.
