    Lucina's alt.colors in Super Smash Bros 4 are based off of Nowi's, Cherche's, Cordellia's, Tiki's, Lissa's, Tharja's, and Sumia's appearances in Awakening.

      Marth's white color is based off of Leif from Thracia 776.
      His second blue color in Brawl is based off of his SNES color pallet.
      In Sm4sh Marth's second blue color is a mixture of his Melee blue color and SNES colors and his purple color is based off of his Shadow Dragon colors.

    Awakening didn't sell well because it's better than the older FE games, because of Casual mode, or any of that. It sold well because it was actually marketed as if it were worth a damn.

    For all of you complaining about casual mode, here are two things you should think about.
    Number 1: It's optional! They didn't completely remove permadeath, so if you don't like the idea of permadeath being removed, just don't use it.
    Number 2: Think of the context. If casual mode hadn't been included, Awakening might not have pushed enough sales for the series to be continued.

    • @Ocsttiac
      @Ocsttiac 9 лет назад +65

      Loads of people I know (and have seen) have played Casual mode and basically have become too scared to try Classic mode, which also makes them too afraid to try another Fire Emblem game. This leads to awkward discussions where I try to talk about other Fire Emblem games and everyone just stares blankly at me.

    • @runawaysparklers622
      @runawaysparklers622 9 лет назад +19

    Gotta say...I think they made the right call on casual mode. I personally don't like the idea of losing characters forever if they die in a game based entirely around luck. Sure, there are some measures you can take to can take to lower the risk, but the risk is there all the same, and then if you don't want to lose them, you'll have to reset and try the chapter again. It's like a Nuzlocke, only less forgiving since there aren't hundreds of other units to replace fallen ones with...and pokemon is less up to chance. I guess the idea worked since Awakening sold really well, and I hope to see it again in future titles.
    I can say with no shame that no matter the difficulty, I ALWAYS play on casual.

    • @seedXzero
      @seedXzero 10 лет назад +43

      I think it's fine to include the feature, since it's not forced on you. But keep in mind, Casual mode takes all the strategy out of it. It means the only thing you need to do to win a chapter is to keep your lord from dying. You can just run through any chapter mindlessly and probably beat it, since player stats are generally higher. Fire Emblem has always been about defeating large armies with your small, elite army, so the goal is to use tactic to keep them from biting off more than they can chew. So, to me, the only justification to casual is if you're doing an insane difficulty level, or if you only care about completing the story.

      Well, to be fair, there is some luck. Like when an 80% misses or a 20% hits, etc. But the game's all about calculated risk, that's what makes it fun and interesting.

      Not saying I agree with these people, but if you frequent any Fire Emblem nut populated Areas these are generally the problem games, not high points.
      Path of Radiance is generally well received, but not considered a high point by any stretch of the imagination.
      Aside from these mentions, the literal lowest point for the series is probably the Shadow Dragon DS title with the actual highest for most players being the the first English release, Fire Emblem.

    Lol. You cant find a recent Fire Emblem video without finding people who argue over Casual/Classic mode. Then theres the seemingly select few who don't care either way. Heck. Phoenix mode is coming for Fates. Your units just come back. It really shouldnt come to insults, its just skill level. Are you a good strategist? Classic Mode. Do you make mistakes and don't wish to be punished too severely? Casual Mode. Do you lack a tactical bone in your body/do you want to enjoy the story? Phoenix mode. Sure theres obvious inferiority here but theres no need to rude and point it out. Besides. Theres difficulty on top of that. Lunatic Mode is kind to no one. Someone in Phoenix mode can help develop strategies for a particularly hard map. Cooperate on these things people. We aren't Call of Duty fans xD

      and that's every character who's death causes you to lose out on the main plot. every Fire Emblem game is made so that no character's death will cause you to lose out on the main plot, i tested this myself by allowing Sumia to die on the very chapter you recruit her in and she still slugged Chrom in the face later on.
      characters who are important to the plot don't die when they are defeated in battle, sure you can't use them in battle again (at least until your next playthrough of the game which in my opinion is a better way of bringing your characters back to life than resetting all the time) but they'll still appear in cutscenes so you won't lose out on anything that has to do with the main plot. as for support conversations they can just be looked up online (and with the GBA games some characters take so long to get the many support points they need before you can access their support conversation that unless you're super patient you're better of just looking them up online. i don't care that Roy and Thani are one of my most favorite pair in the series i'm not waiting forever for them to fall in love).
      if you don't want to play classic mode that's fine i'm not gonna force anyone to try it but when you give out your excuses for why you won't try the older games of the series just because they don't have a casual mode don't say you're worried about losing out on the story as your reason because it just isn't the case.

    • @FidensLibertas
      @FidensLibertas 8 лет назад +2

      +TheAj1028 the reason for all the criticism towards casual mode has nothing to with that mode, rather it has to do with the mindset that many fans, especially newcomers, develop after playing that mode.
      sometimes it seems that nearly the entire fan base has this mindset that 'Fire Emblem without casual mode isn't worth playing'. i've played the older games of the series and many of them are very good, despite the lack of casual mode they are well worth playing. i take it as an insult towards something i'm very passionate about that so many people have this mindset.
      i'm not saying that veteran fans who act like snobby elitists and go around being hostile towards newcomers are in the right (honestly i find those kinds of people irritating) but i don't think newcomer fans are any better when think that the older games of this series aren't worth playing just because they don't have an option to remove all semblance of a challenge.

      +Fidens Libertas The fact that you don't lose any plot besides support conversations in Awakening is actually why I made my second playthrough casual. I liked the idea of perma-death. It adds weight to the story and adds a lot more potential head-cannon (which is an important part of Waifu Simulator: Awakening). When I found Severa, I didn't know who her mother was until I remembered she had died a while back in a dumb move that almost cost both the mother's and the father's life. The father, who barley survived, I never used again. I thought it was really sad that even in the past, Severa still had a dead mother. Until I recruited her and her mother magically came back in a text scene establishing Severa was from the future, only to leave again. Kind of killed the mood.
      I kind of do wish classic mode was a bit more punishing. It adds replayability if you don't cheat and reset all the time.

    • @FidensLibertas
      @FidensLibertas 8 лет назад

      +Potius Mori if you want classic mode to be more punishing check out Mystery of the Emblem. as far as playable characters go Marth is the only one needed for the main plot, some other characters do have some roles in the main plot but it is so minor that the main plot can still be told with Marth alone. still if you want the entire main plot the characters you need to keep alive are Julian, Minerva, Sirius, Sheeda and Marrich. also, to get the good ending in Mystery of the Emblem you need to get the 5 jewels of the Shield of Seals.
      also, the thing about not resetting all the time is that you'll finish the game faster.

  • @Nougatocity6
    @Nougatocity6 10 лет назад +30

    Actually Marth's name is pronounce as "Marth" because it's an intentional corruption of the name Mars. While Marth is a great warrior and eventually conquers an entire continent, he is actually very kind, desires peace and hates fighting, and his name is supposed to signify this. It was pronounced as "Mars" in the dub of the anime because of a simple error. In Japanese there is no "th" sound, instead there's an "s" sound, and that's why his Japanese name, Marusu, is pronounced as such. Marth is the correct and intentional pronunciation.

      Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem ~Heroes of Light and Shadow~ (or FE12), with Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War (FE4) following very closely behind.

      Ocsttiac It's good to hear that New Mystery of the Emblem is that good, but it always seemed kinda odd to me since half of it is a remake of remake, and then with the previous entry Shadow Dragon for DS being a 2nd remake of that first half so it's almost like a 3rd remake and now my head hurts.

      MrPiGuy It's a remake of half of a game which the first half was a remake... yeah, it's confusing.
      But it's really good, because it took what was wrong with Shadow Dragon and fixed a lot of it. It even breathed life and personality into what were very boring and lifeless characters. Oh, and the Avatar in that game was much more fun to use.

    There's also the two brothers in Fire Emblem named Cain and Abel. Cain has a higher crit chance but lower speed. Abel has higher Movement but lower constitution. Now who here can think of two brothers, one who has displayed higher physical strength, including toward his younger brother, and one who moves faster but doesn't make it far enough to be considered important? That's right. Mario and Luigi.

    • @FidensLibertas
      @FidensLibertas 8 лет назад +9

      +Alex Leonardi Cain and Able are not brothers. stat wise Cain has higher speed while Able has higher strength, movement is the same for these 2 as they are the same class (unless you're counting Able being pre-promoted in Mystery of the Emblem which isn't a fair way to compare their movement stats) and finally constitution is never featured in any of the games that these 2 appear in unless by constitution you meant weapon level (a stat that was removed in the 4th game of the series and never returned) then you're wrong there as well since whether Able is better or not is different between book 1 and book 2 (and it's not really a stat that matters too much).

      still proud Mia could pull something like that and Nephenie tanked and saved the game for me more then once.
      at some point you should lose those training wheels. believe me the games become even more engaging this way. at least give it a try.

    About Fire Emblem 64: Shozo Kaga mentioned in an interview in January, 1999 that after Seisen No Keifu, he intended to make a third title in the Akaneia saga:
    "After Genealogy of the Holy War was completed, the theme of the next game was considered immediately. In fact, we had originally wanted to return to Archanea, the stage of Mystery of the Emblem. However, although we intended on this direction from the very beginning, during the preliminary preparations, we realized it was too ambitious and difficult to do with the Super Famicom [SNES] hardware... If possible, we'd like to do it for new hardware." - Shozo Kaga, Fire Emblem Treasure, Jan. 1999
    Due to technical problems, he abandoned such plans in favor of another Super Famicom release, Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. In addition, while Miyamoto has worked on Intelligent Systems games before, he has never been involved in the development of a Fire Emblem game, which makes his statement about its development odd. It's likely he learned this while working on Super Mario RPG 2, which later turned into Paper Mario, the game which he was a prodcuer for.
    Also, on Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance linking with the Fuuin No Tsurugi: While it is not possible to link the two in the western release, it is possible to link Fire Emblem and/or Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, which unlocks special trial maps in Path of Radiance, depending on which version you decide to link up.
    Other than that (and the slightly shortened quote regarding Advance Wars' influence in localizing Fire Emblem), this is somewhat accurate. I covered this in the past, along with more of the series history in the Fire Emblem: Western Retrospective two years ago.

Awakening introduced a lot of people, myself included, into the series, and making it so that the game didn't alienate everyone was a smart decision. But no. Some long time fans can't stand the option of something different than what they are used to, and hate the decision. HOW DARE IS GIVE AN OPTION TO PLAY A DIFFERENT WAY TO PLAY THE GAME THAN THE NORMAL WAY WHILE STILL ALLOWING THE OLD WAY TO BE PLAYABLE! You can still play the game the old way, introducing new people to the series with a new way is a good idea.

      I don't have any problem with casual mode itself, my only problem is new fans didn't actually play previous games due to afraid of permadeath, sure some of them played but most don't. Now how many games did you play from the series. From old titles I've played FE3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 11 (to some extent).

      Since falling in love with Awakening I got Shadow Dragon and am currently on my 3rd play through. I also am currently playing through Blazing Sword. Like literally this second. I'm playing it right now. I decided to read my messages while playing. I'm going to go back to playing now.
      Also, I plan to get FE14 as soon as possible and download older games when they get on the Eshop. Back to murdering people!

      I think a small part of the ire is drawn because some casual players seem to hate permadeath as much as normal players hate playing casual. I've seen a bit of a "fuck permadeath" attitude in some people, which turns me off because I've essentially identified Fire Emblem by that pretty important mechanic for years.
      The rest is just the internet and normal casual h8.

      my friend actually got me into fire emblem with awakening (still playing through my first play through), and i have been loving it overall (BUT I LET MORGAN DIE IN THE PROLOGUE I THOUGHT THEY'D COME BACK IF I JUST BEAT THE MAP I LITERALLY CRIED). if there wasn't a casual mode, i'd most likely be very afraid to try and play it, due to the fact you can create such a little bond with the characters in the game, and i was new to its genre, and a lot of my units would probably be dead by now if there wasn't. casual is able to give people who are new to the franchise a chance to poke at it and make mistakes, not being punished harshly for letting something slip.

    • @saifors
      @saifors 9 лет назад +6

      Okay I'll explain this to you, FE Veterans don't "hate casual mode", they hate what casual mode represents, basically casualizing the game way too much, there is no "old way to play" in Awakening, Normal is somehow even easier than the Sacred Stones, but now you might be thinking: "Why not play Hard mode then?", simply put the higher difficulties in Awakening rely on putting more RNG-based things in it, instead of just making better maps and having enemy formations that don't break apart like a piece of paper like in FE7s Hector Hard Mode, they give enemy unit's Gamble (a skill that exchanges hit chance for crit chance) or making Pair-up, a completely RNG-based mechanic, necessary to get through the game. To add to the simplifications: they removed the magic weapon triangle, FE11 and FE12 had the excuse of being remakes, but Awakening didn't have any excuse other than simplifying, then there's the support system and marriage, there hasn't been something this broken since the mine glitch in the GBA games, and that was a glitch, this isn't. They even brought back the marriage system from FE4 which was related to a heart wrenching moment in it's story and made it into a dating sim.
      Really for every step Awakening took forward, it took at least one step backwards.

      From what I heard (Not assuming this is the same for every single person) Japanese gamers like precision, do everything right or you lose kind of games where westerners more so like 'get such and such done then you'll find out what happens next'
      So a lot of Japanese players would enjoy having extremely punishing games where a lot of westerners would want to finish the story and if they couldn't get past chapter two they'd more than likely drop the game and never pick it back up again.

      while Fire Emblem 7 was great having a really good story and flawless gameplay other than this it didn't really do anything to wow me.
      with Fire Emblem 4 while there were a few, easily forgivable flaws, it overall had a much better story and unlike Fire Emblem 7 i feel it went the extra length to really leave an impression.
      although it's difficult to say whether Fire Emblem 4 should be compared to any other game in the series due to the many ways it is unique and different from the rest of the series.

    Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn is still my top favorite FE game of all time. Sacred Stones comes damn close, but the story and characters for Radiant Dawn were so good that I'm not sure that any other Fire Emblem game is ever going to quite measure up the same way for me.

    • @SlayersoftheGame
      @SlayersoftheGame 9 лет назад +2

      crzymn246 To be honest I think Radiant Dawn was the weakest. In my opinion of course, I am not disregarding yours.
      The way how they constantly switched armies never got you attached to their growths. Plus how the enemies grew a lot and were constantly stronger than you kept forcing you to use the "EXP sponges" as I like to call them. Sothe, Black Knight, Nailia, Volug, etc. The units that were supposed to get stronger but are weaker at first hardly have time to raise themselves so your stuck with just mediocre units at the end of it.

    • @Spectacular_Insanity
      @Spectacular_Insanity 9 лет назад +3

      ***** The story was my favorite part. I thought the switching armies was great, because it made the game not so cut-and-dry "we're good they're bad" like most of the FE games tend to be. I felt it added real tension to the game because the stats carried over and you had to carefully position your units so that when your army fought the "bad guys," your current characters didn't get killed. And because I liked the characters, I also felt conflicted about fighting them. First time I've ever felt that way about an enemy army that is usually, in most FE games, just made out of expendable cannon fodder with the exception of that level's boss.
      And the EXP sponges are only sponges if you use them all the time. Sure there are many of them, Micaiah, Sothe, and Ike just to name a few. But I see so many playthroughs that used Soren, but I literally did not use him except when the mission forced me to. For me the obvious sponges were Ike, Micaiah, Tibarn (lol Tibarn could kill an entire army on his own, archers or no archers) and Shinon. My EXP sponges changed every game because I changed the characters and support options every playthrough. One game my strongest non-main character was Jill, of all people. The next, it was Fiona. The characters that are weakest in the beginning DO have stronger stat growth if you put the time into getting them kills. It takes a lot of extra time when plotting your moves, but it's worth it.
      Not saying the game is perfect, or that it's even the best, but that's the reason I like it so much. It was thematically like most FE game, but it broke out of the standard formula without sacrificing the thematic elements that make FE games so enjoyable. (And the reason I hate FE Fates. The main storyline is terrible and I don't like how they switched away from a western high-fantasy setting.)

      i don't care if people play casual or classic mode nor do i care if people like Awakening or not but it infuriates me when people say that Awakening is better than older games of the series just because those older games don't have casual mode.
      which Fire Emblem game is better is a matter of every Fire Emblem fan's personal preferences so i have no problem with people liking Awakening more than older games of the series but people shouldn't really be saying it's better just cause it has casual mode especially when you consider the flaws that Awakening has like bland map designs (not that they're all bad but most of them are) and poorly executed game mechanics (and there are plenty of other flaws but i don't want this comment to be too long. if you want to know about the bigger flaws in Awakening check out a video by Mangz called 'What Awakening Did Wrong').
      also i generally dislike casual loving Awakening fanboys because they're complete assholes. even though i don't chastise anyone for playing casually or liking Awakening some of them have come up at me and called me an elitist anyway just cause i prefer classic mode and don't like Awakening and it's not just me i've seen this happen to others as well.
      i don't have any issues with casual mode itself but i find it deplorable to see what the fan base has become because of it.

      +Kira Smith first off let me make it clear i'm not very good at communication, in fact i struggle with it. my social life is such a confusing mess for me that i don't even know what it is or if i even have one.
      with my poor communication skills i may not have used the best of words in that old comment of mine but in the months that have passed since then i've managed to think about it and i think i've got a grasp on what words to use to better get across what i'm trying to say, also my opinion concerning casual mode has changed a bit since then. so here goes.
      i don't care if people play casual mode. i do think classic mode is better and gives a far richer gameplay experience but i won't force anyone into it. there are a few things however that bother me concerning this whole casual vs classic mode thing.
      first, some people seem to say that classic mode isn't worth playing (again i have poor communication skills so i may be misunderstanding what people are saying) or at the very least they seem to be saying stuff that implies that they think that casual mode is by default better than classic mode and that in no way whatsoever can classic mode ever be better than casual mode. some people prefer classic mode and some people prefer casual mode, neither of them are better than the other because it all comes down to personal preference. i enjoy Fire Emblem for the gameplay so naturally i prefer classic mode.
      the second reason this bothers me is that most, not all but most, of those introduced to this series through casual mode refuse to try out the older games of the series and their reason is of course lack of casual mode. the reason this bothers me is that a lot of these people seems to call themselves huge Fire Emblem fans even though they've only played Awakening and never played any of the previous games in the series (bet they can't even tell me which was the first game in the series to feature the weapon triangle, that feature hasn't been around since the first game). another reason why this bothers me is that i don't see how a lack of hand holding makes the older games of the series not worth playing, not that all those older games are good but even with the lack of casual mode many of them are great and well worth playing. not only are most of those older games great but in my opinion some of them are even better than Awakening (Awakening's many flaws is a different topic so i won't go into them here).
      the third reason why this bothers me is that going off what i said about how many who are introduced to the series through casual mode never try out the older games of the series, well this leads to another problem where a lot of people say that Awakening is the best game in the series and while which is best is a matter of personal preference they shouldn't say it's the best unless they've played most, not all, but most of the games in the series.
      the forth and final reason why this bothers me is that i've heard plenty of arguments justifying not playing the older games of the series just because they don't have casual mode and they're very stupid arguments that i have counterarguments for. let me give you all of them (please note that i'm not considering Awakening and Fates with these counterarguments).
      stupid argument: if my characters die then i won't be able to enjoy the story.
      my counterargument: characters who are important to the main plot don't die when defeated in battle. you won't be able to use them in battle again but they'll still appear in cutscenes.
      stupid argument: if my characters die then i won't be able to enjoy their support conversations.
      my counterargument: only Binding Blade, Blazing Sword, Sacred Stones and Path of Radiance features support conversations, that's less than half the games in the series and every support conversations can be looked up online. i don't know about Path of Radiance but for those other 3 games while some support conversations can be acquired rather quickly some take so ridiculously long to get that they're not really worth getting during gameplay and you're better off just looking them up online.
      stupid argument: resetting all the time sucks and makes it take forever to beat these game.
      my counterargument: then don't reset, it's less of a pain to bring your characters back to life by finishing the game and starting a new one. not to mention there's no requirement to finish the game with every characters alive. you can even look up every possible endings of every characters online and it is canon that every characters survive. if
      you're seriously making that big a deal out of trying to keep every characters alive then you're clearly taking these games more seriously than you should.
      stupid argument: the older games of the series cost too much so i can't play them.
      my counterargument: that is a good argument but only for Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. Shadow Dragon was never too popular so i doubt it would cost much. Blazing Sword and Sacred Stones cost less than 10$ each on the virtual console and the other games of the series weren't localized and regardless of your views on emulation for games that were never localized i think that's a worthy exception for emulating an English rom patch of these games because i don't see how a language barrier is a good reason to not be able to play great games.

      +Kira Smith here's 5 strategies to minimize the deaths of Fire Emblem characters.
      1. Attrition: this strategy is to play defensively and fight with counterattacks. this works best with enemies that don't move like most bosses. if the boss can kill you in 2 hits but can't double then instead of attacking only to get counterattacked then killed on the enemy's turn you can simply wait next to the boss, then on the enemy's turn the boss will attack followed by your counterattack and you'll live to see your next turn, if your second attack will kill the boss then go for it, if not then either heal or make your character fall back while another moves up to counter the boss's next attack, keep this up until the boss is weak enough that you can kill him with your next attack. a battle of attrition works well with enemies that don't move but for enemies who do move we have to resort to the following strategy.
      2. Luring: this strategy works similarly to Attrition but now we take the enemy's movement into consideration. put your characters within the attack range of a few enemies but make sure your characters doesn't take too many hits so they'll survive. once the enemy has been lured in it's time for our next strategy.
      3. Swarming: once the enemies have closed in on you you swarm them with your characters. of course we want to swarm effectively so we'll use our next strategy.
      4. Weakening: you attack enemies while taking their capabilities for counterattacking into consideration. you chip away at the enemies' HP with Archers, Mages and characters with high enough defense that they won't take too much damage from counterattacks (in fact, not being worried about your characters taking non-lethal damage is somewhat necessary for all these strategies to work). for our final strategy we'll combine Attrition with Weakening.
      5. Choking: find a gap about 1-2 spaces long and block it with characters that have high defense. use Attrition with incoming enemies and have range attackers like Archers and Mages help with killing the enemies.
      for these strategies to be as effective as possible there are 2 things that are needed, patience and precision. since you're mostly playing defensively you must be patient yet every move you make must be precise in order to achieve the desired results.
      you also need to learn the math behind these games but it's simple enough that a third grader could figure it out. damage is calculated by ATK - DEF or RES (weapon triangle adds and removes a few points, how it does so differs between games) then you have to compare at the AS (attack speed) stat to see if your character will double attack finally you have to look at the CRIT stat, high LUCK characters have less chance of taking a critical hit though it's usually better to just snipe such an enemy from a safe distance.
      i recommend practicing these strategies on the SNES version of Mystery of the Emblem since it doesn't feature the weapon triangle making other aspects of Fire Emblem strategies more significant.

    This is an old ass video, but I want to add my two cents on classic/casual mode. Casual mode makes the story more enriching than classic mode for me, but the gameplay takes an extremely huge hit. My reasoning in this can be demonstrated by FE8.
    In that game, I only had about 3-4 conversations between characters, and when even given the option, I opted out to ignore it to advance my strategy against the enemy.
    When playing in casual mode, I purposely put a few characters together even if the strategy was flat out dumb to see the skits after the game. This made me care for the characters more, which made my second run through the game on hard/classic that much better.

      You wouldn't need causal mode if you could strategize in a strategy game.

    • @FidensLibertas
      @FidensLibertas 8 лет назад

      +Red One the reason you had trouble getting support conversations in FE8 is that the entire GBA line all had poor pacing for acquiring support ranks.
      for example i want to support Roy with Thany but they take so long just to get so much as a C rank support that i'm definitely better off just looking up their support online (i mean sure Thany is recruited in chapter 2 so you do have a lot of time to build up their support ranks but it's still a pain in the ass), in contrast Roy and Lilina can get an A rank support in almost no time at all (and while not as early as many of Roy's other support she is still recruited pretty early in the game).
      while i don't like most of the supports in Awakening due to how 1 dimensional and overly gimmicky nearly every characters are i can't deny that the pacing at which you acquire support ranks is a massive improvement.

I can't believe how beautiful the GBA games are for this series, the animations, the character designs, the visuals. Also the combat and crits look cooler.

      +Greg Allan Couldn't agree more. Then again, Sacred Stones was the first one I played, so I've definitely got some bias. The combat definitely looks a lot better though. I respect that they're trying to update the graphics, but it's really not leaving much room for crazy animations, like the whirling top of death that was a warrior crit.

      +Greg Allan I completely agree. My very first game was FE7, and it still remains my die-hard favorite of the entire series. That being said, I love ALL Fire Emblem's.

Fav game was the DS game Shadow Dragon which was mainly because I was so hype for it do to Marth being the entire reason I got into Fire Emblem in the first place. Raidoton I wouldn't call it small, there's 10+ games in the Wars franchise, we probably haven't seen a character yet as the franchise doesn't really appeal to a Japanese audience, but then again we have Little Mac which has even less appeal to a Japanese audience. When the next Smash comes around or they decide to rep a new franchise as DLC, Wars should be at the top of the list in my opinion, and Andy or Sami should be the one who's included.

    • @Evello37
      @Evello37 9 лет назад

      I'm no Advance Wars expert (I've only played Days of Ruin) but I think the series definitely is big enough to warrant a SSB character. It's just really not obvious how one would fight. The main characters are just commanders who don't fight themselves (that I know of), but fighting as a generic soldier would be boring. Also, I think their use of guns makes Nintendo a little iffy around them. They could do it, since Snake got in, but it's not helping their case. It sounds like Sakurai made assist trophies specifically to provide representation for unique series like Advanced Wars, but hopefully some day AW can make the jump to a full character.

    I don't see the problem with Casual mode, it's a option AND it's great for people who are new to the series like myself when I first played Awakening so if you don't like it play classic mode, simple as that.

    • @FidensLibertas
      @FidensLibertas 8 лет назад

      +Dildo Faggins i have poor communication skills so i may be misunderstanding it but that comment sounds like you want to know why casual mode is so heavily criticized so i'll try to explain as best i can why i criticize it.
      first off let me make 1 thing clear. i don't care if people play classic or casual. some people prefer casual mode and some prefer classic mode. i like Fire Emblem for the gameplay so naturally i prefer classic mode but i won't condemn others for preferring casual mode over classic mode.
      concerning the whole casual vs classic thing my problem with it is that most (not all but most) of those introduced to the series through casual mode never get around to trying out the older games of the series. why is this a problem, well for one thing they're missing out on a great series but mostly i take issue with it because a lot of these people say Awakening is the best game in the series. i don't care if people say that Awakening is their favorite but i would appreciate it if they gave the older games of the series a chance before they say something like that (i would also appreciate it if they'd notice and acknowledge Awakening's many flaws, which are hard to notice especially for those who've never played any of the previous games in the series. if they still want to say Awakening is their favorite after all that then fine at least they gave the other games a chance and are making fair comparisons).
      another reason i take issue with the whole classic vs casual thing is that i've heard plenty of arguments justifying not playing the older games of the series just because they don't have casual mode and they're very stupid arguments that i have counterarguments for. let me give you all of them (please note that i'm not considering Awakening and Fates with these counterarguments).
      stupid argument: if my characters die then i won't be able to enjoy the story.
      my counterargument: characters who are important to the main plot don't die when defeated in battle. you won't be able to use them in battle again but they'll still appear in cutscenes.
      stupid argument: if my characters die then i won't be able to enjoy their support conversations.
      my counterargument: only Binding Blade, Blazing Sword, Sacred Stones and Path of Radiance features support conversations, that's less than half the games in the series and every support conversations can be looked up online. i don't know about Path of Radiance but for those other 3 games while some support conversations can be acquired rather quickly some take so ridiculously long to get that they're not really worth getting during gameplay and you're better off just looking them up online.
      stupid argument: resetting all the time sucks and makes it take forever to beat these game.
      my counterargument: resetting is optional and in my experience it's less of a pain to bring your characters back to life by finishing the game and starting a new one. not to mention there's no requirement to finish the game with every characters alive. you can even look up every possible endings of every characters online and it is canon that every characters survive. if you're seriously making that big a deal out of trying to keep every characters alive then you're clearly taking these games more seriously than you should.
      stupid argument: the older games of the series cost too much so i can't play them.
      my counterargument: that is a good argument but only for Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. Shadow Dragon was never too popular so i doubt it would cost much. Blazing Sword and Sacred Stones cost less than 10$ each on the virtual console and the other games of the series weren't localized and regardless of your views on emulation for games that were never localized i think that's a worthy exception for emulating an English rom patch of these games because i don't see how a language barrier is a good reason to not be able to play great games.
      stupid argument: i'm not good at Fire Emblem strategies.
      my counterargument: then instead of saying that why not try asking around for strategic advice. i myself have given strategic advice to quite a few people.
      if i were to name 1 final issue i have with the whole casual vs classic debate it would be that sometimes it seems some people are saying things that imply that they think casual mode is by default better than classic mode, almost like they're saying that it wouldn't be a problem if classic mode were removed. again i have poor communication skills so i might be misunderstanding this one but whenever i come across anyone saying something that sounds like this it pisses me off because as i said i like classic mode more than casual mode.

    I really love Awakening, but why do people complain about the addition of Casual mode. It was made there for the new fire emblem fans who are just getting into the series, once they've gotten the hang of it they can just switch into classic mode. I don't like the addition because I feel it sets a dangerous precedent. This is just speculation but I feel Nintendo may tone down the difficulty of future Fire Emblem games to appease people who play casual mode, and this may effect the regular mode. And this reason may sound stupid to some, but I feel many choices made in Awakening spit in the face of the series' long history, and I'm not only talking about the inclusion of casual mode.

    I really like the various Gameboy and console Fire Emblem games, but I really liked the Casual mode in the 3DS game. If the levels were static I wouldn't mind, but so often in FE you'll get halfway through a level and suddenly 6 enemy Wyvern Riders will spawn behind you with no warning (for example) and kill one of your characters because you were not prepared to deal with them you have to start the entire level over and it becomes very frustrating. This is particularly annoying in lengthy maps and I never understood the point of these surprise attacks in games were individual unit placement and weapon advantages (swords beat axes, etc) are so important. If those events never happened or were forecasted in the games ('Hey, I see some enemy units coming from behind us' - 4 turns later they show up) so you knew what you were up against from turn 1 I wouldn't see the point of Casual mode.

    I'm among those who chose casual mode because I did not care for the permadeaths in the previous installments of the franchise.
    I was a big fan of the characters, but in order to let all of them through the story, there was way too much arbitrary game-resetting because of a lot of cheap moves.
    In Awakening, I can enjoy all of the characters and their dialogue to their fullest extend, and the majority of my gameplay time is spent on developing their relationships. No need to pay much heed to losing them anymore, and I can play it at a relaxed pace.
    I don't really understand why people are so adamant about this topic in the first place though. It's but an optional feature, and it will probably be a feature in future installments as well. Might as well cater to as many as possible I'd say.

    • @EmporerEmblem
      @EmporerEmblem 9 лет назад +2

      I almost never lose anyone (enemies chaining crits or my units chaining misses really being cases), even on when playing on hard, it just takes a good degree of strategy.
      The big fears (at least in my case) of casual mode is that it:
      a) makes the battles themselves seem less important cos you can get away with really stupid moves.
      b) scare newer players that are afraid of perma-death away from the older FE games, and maybe even potentially newer ones that are only perma-death.
      Otherwise I can't really complain, because ultimately Awakening has allowed me to introduce more people to the series.

      Ocsttiac So you hate an option because people enjoy the option and don't like to play the way you play? I don't have the words.

      mojo873 You misunderstand. I dislike Casual mode because no one I know has had the guts to try any Fire Emblem game other than Awakening *because* of said mode.
      One can only talk about Awakening for so long before wanting to vomit (and change the subject to Genealogy of the Holy War, citing how it was far better).
      Besides if you're really hopeless at video games, FE14's got you all set with "no need to try anymore" mode.

      Ocsttiac Totally the perma-death that makes them not want to play it, and definitely not the insane price tags on the older games. Two-hundred and ten dollars for Path of Radiance? With that kind of money, I'd rather buy cheaper games.
      You mean Phoenix Mode? Which is basically the same thing as you cataloging your moves, restarting when a character dies, and doing all the moves up to that point? Seriously, that's what every "hardcore" Fire Emblem player I've met does. And then those same people complain about Casual mode. When I play through a classic Fire Emblem game, I take my losses as they come. No documentation, no restarting, if someone dies they're dead. You can't complain about a lack of perma-death and then restart the entire chapter when someone dies because "I need him for a later chapter." That's no different than Casual mode.
      And Genealogy of the Holy War is better, I'll give you that...but of course, our opinion on the matter may not be shared by your friends, even if they were to play it through.
      One of the most common complaints I hear from people about Awakening is "It's too easy."
      Play on Lunatic+, Classic mode. Beat it without losing a single unit, no resetting. Recruit everyone; child units, DLC units, and sidequest units, and beat it without grinding for hours using Reeking Boxes. THEN you can walk up to me and say to my face, "Fire Emblem Awakening is too easy."

      Rid the Looter WDS Coming straight from the mouths of my friends:
      "It doesn't have a Casual mode? Um... no thanks."
      "I can't handle no Casual mode. I need it."
      "I don't like the art style of the older games."
      [That last one was from my girlfriend... it still irritates me]
      Price isn't a factor to them... And even concerning prices, I'm not gonna talk about Path of Radiance or Radiant Dawn. Everyone knows those games require you to chop off all your limbs and sell them on the black market to make even a fraction of their prices. No, instead let's focus on the GBA titles (except for Binding Blade).
      You can get both for cheap as chips on Wii U Virtual Console, but if you don't own a Wii U, you can instead buy a GBA or a DS for about £20 on Amazon/eBay (that's assuming you don't have one), along with Blazing Sword and/or Sacred Stones for also around £20 (you'd be surprised how cheap they've become after going on the Virtual Console). That's about £40, the price for Awakening only. So money is not an issue. Same applies to Shadow Dragon, it's incredibly cheap now.
      And if for some reason you can't manage that, then you can toss your moralities away and just emulate them. Let's be real, plenty of people do it and have no qualms about doing so, especially for the Japan-only games. My friends don't either.
      In terms of Casual/Phoenix mode, I'll be honest and just say that I'm blowing up my annoyance for them more so than I actually feel. I don't "document my moves", I'm not that OCD. And in terms of restarting, it's a bigger punishment than just waltzing on as if nothing happened. Besides, I do it so that everyone gets a happy ending.
      And concerning Awakening's difficulty... Look, we're talking about default difficulties here. Any game can be made hard, but not necessarily in a good way. Awakening's Lunatic+ mode is fake difficulty, period. There's no real sense of "devious thought" when all the developers did was beef up the enemies with stats and enemy-exclusive abilities. There's no thought put into the map design or enemy layout, unlike Thracia 776 which was hard for the right reasons (and wrong too... damn you, Saias).
      So of course a game's not easy when you crank it to maximum difficulty and give yourself a bunch of restrictions.

      its only a tutorial the first time you play, once you play through her mode and eilwoods the first time you unlock lyn (hard), Eilwood(hard) and Hector modes. lyn(hard) is only slightly more difficult than the first time but it stops being a tutorial and can put you in some dangerous situations.
