Excellent tip to use an automotive feeler gauge for setting at 0.011". Case trimming first for consistent depth of neck turning. Also a fired case would fit too loosely for precise neck turning. I use and full length resizing die with the expander ball removed, then I use a expander mandrel to match the neck turning mandrel. Shell holders do NOT come with Hornady neck turner and only Hornady brand shell holders will work with the Hornady neck turner. According to the Hornady manual, the case neck and mandrel should be lubed prior to turning.
Thanks for sharing Mike. After purchasing my Hornady Neck Turner about 12 months ago, I found it awkward to use. I had thought about removing the spring and now that I've seen your video, this is exactly what I'll be doing. I need to figure out your drill attachment - can you tell me what the attachment is please?
I like to put the mouth of the case on the mandrel and then tighten it up. I seem to get a more stable lock on the case that way and not have to worry about it uneven turning as much.
Lube the cutter and case neck...want to turn with brass not heating up. Also RCBS or Dillion or Redding shell holders will not work....need to purchase Hornady shell holders. Also might have purchase a neck turning mandrel 0.002" less than the bullet diameter so case fits tightly while turning.
I got mine yesterday and the first one did well. And the second. I was surprised. I may try that spring trik u talkin about
Great video and thank you for sharing. Well done and I like your set-up as well.

Nice job Mike
hey mike more vids like this
Does the shell holders have to be Hornady or will RCBS and Lee holders work?
I know RCBS ones wont work, the hole in the center is too small, so I had to buy Hornady ones.
Hornadys only. The shaft is to big for anything but Hornday's.
Are the cases sized then turned on this unit? Or are they fired cases?
I full length re-size them first then turn them, some guys use a mandrel as well
Does the neck turning tool just screw into the lock and load case trimmer?
No this came with the base as a package just what is shown in the video
Where do you see an "a" between the d and y? It's NOT Hornaday. It's a Hornady. Horn-a-dy. Pronounced horn a dee.
Hornady pronounced HORNADEE makes ammunition and components. HornaDAY is a race car driver.
Wow who the hell gives a shit
