  • Fusion 360 4th and 5th Axis CAM is here! This video shows how easy it is to generate 4th axis toolpaths using the Wrap Toolpath feature!
MORE videos to come on using 4th and 5th axis toolpaths in Fusion 360!
NOTE: PLEASE USE "A AXIS TORMACH.CPS" POST AT YOUR OWN RISK! IT HAS NOT BEEN TESTED!

The giant clearance is because of where your WCS is. It's treating your X WCS as the center of rotation
Place your WCS origin in the center, right of the cylinder
You should always keep your origin at the center of your A axis rotation. Things can get very screwy if you don't.

Sweet! But I'm a smidge confused.. is this only 2D wrapping? Do all the contour bottoms need to be at the same radius? In other words: could you machine a sphere with work in the 4th axis? Or, say, a chess piece? A knight, not a rook (or pawn) :)

ThisOldTony sees all. *evil laugh* I've had a continuous 4th axis project waiting for a while now, so let's hope this gets full functionality.

It must be such an honour to have ThisOldTony toss a comment your way.
I once managed to get some simultanious 4th axis action from delcam/solidworks combo (succesfuly making a helical gear), it is a real mistery why autodesk cant implement their code already. This is just wraping, but at least it is easy peasy, and it does add some funcionality but it wont even help make a pawn..

oh i will be trying this today!!!!! YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!! nearly everything we do is 4th axis!!!!

zagmongor the 3D toolpaths already have axis substitution in HSMWorks. it's had it for years.

John I have been working with fusion360 a lot lately and if you want the part to move instead of the tool you can make a machine with machine builder including your 4th axis then it it will hold the tool stationary and rotate the work if you would like feel free to get in touch with me and I would be glad to walk you through building a machine

does the tormach postprocessor work for mach3?

It's also interesting that it's outputting Y moves in the post. In a rotary axis substitution, which is what you're doing, all Y moves should be converted to A rotation moves.
All X,Y moves should be X,A moves during 4 axis machining.

Hello and Happy Thanksgiving, I've been watching your videos for a couple months now,
There awesome and I have been bitten hard.
I want to make a cnc router and a cnc lathe.
Like most people money is tight so I went looking for parts on Craigs List, in the free section I got a huge printer with steppers and rails bushings bearings and a whole bunch of plastic, the printer is a toshiba eStudio 3510C
Now its time to get the arduino! Which one
Uno Rev 3? With the cnc controller? There is a bunch of great people here so anybody can answer and Thank you, I would like to keep the price as low as I can. The router is top priority.
    Awesome work John.

amazing are you able to do completely wavey design I want to machine a human head out of wood for moulding. would this be able to do it. you said this is still 2d wrapping and not a full 3d rotation

John, could you possibly show us how you created the wrapped pockets on the CAD side of things?

  • @artisandice
    @artisandice 7 лет назад +1

ok, just tried this. sadly the 4th axis machining is not exceedingly useful if you are not making cylindrical parts.
it's only working with 2d adaptive and 2d pocketing. if your making 3 dimensional parts like we do, you're still out in the cold. the multi axis also of limited use as it can't machine faces with tip of a ball end mill.
still, it's a step in the right direction. here's hoping next month's update add more functionality.

I could test it but I think I need Ultimate, I haven't decided if I'll get it yet. I'm sure I will

Are you guys using on the standard tier subscription, getting 3+1 axes or 3+2 indexed axes, or are you on the ultimate tier with true 4 and 5 axis CAM?
I was just talking with one of the Fusion sales guys. He said that the 3+1 and 3+2 indexed CAM is going away. 4 and 5 axis CAM is now only going to be available in the ultimate tier.
I'm curious if that is what you guys have heard as well.

HI How do you do,how setup 3d adaptive clearing toolpath in 4axis in fusaion 360, XYZ axis running & Rotary machining for statue works.thx for Responding.

i can do that part with G7.1 on 4-axis machine i not need cam do hard work generating thousants lines of code i allready know 4 points of that cylinderical pocket i need machine it. i can wrap it on loop and do depth passes on that 1 poclet less than 10 lines. that is faster than you draw that part generate it and wondering is it good path.cam is generating thousants on line allready on that pocket radius that is done by 1 line using g2/g3

sadly this great update has killed 4th axis work in the original version. you can toolpath it, but it won't post!
You now need "ultimate" even to get 3+1 indexing.... and that's $1800aud a year!

Well the way did isn't correct you must click the bottom of pocket for the wrap geometry or else your cutter path is too big... Nice Ninja Edit
