  • You know when Apple doesn't let you change a setting for your own good? Or when it doesn't let you do something on an old phone because they... want you to buy the new one? Well this setting got me fuming because it's so typically Apple.

Today's iOS 17.1 Developer Beta 2 gives users this choice now.
"Apple added a new "Display" section to the StandBy section of the Settings app, which houses some new customization options. The display can be set to turn off automatically (current behavior), after 20 seconds, or never."

I'm going to choose to believe that Tim Cook watched my video and added that two days ago.

They do have true Always-On for the Pro iPhones with 120Hz screens, as the variable refresh rate means it can also go down to 1Hz for Always-On. Non-pros stay at 60Hz which can cause screen burn and use up a lot of battery. And Apple would never show a clock that is not in the center of the screen.

I showed in the video, the always on display turns off when you go to sleep. My phone is a pro and I'll wake up and glance over and it'll be off. Looks like Standby is getting an always on option in the next iOS version so that's good! But it's only available to pro phones, which makes no sense. Very Apple.
