Yet another game that got me hooked just beyond the refund window on quest. Did not go back to this after I found out it essentially was a corridor waveshooter. With vents for creatures to spawn endlessly. I think I would've liked it more if the went for actual firearms instead of the creature-guns stuck on your hand. A personal preference I guess.

Looking at a game like this makes me sad for VR's future. Released 12 okt 2023 on quest now has 242 reviews. 22 feb 2024 on steam only 16 reviews... I mean PCVR is dead, but this is ridiculous. It is originally a quest 2 game, but it does not look like it. They had a core team of 8 people, 2 years of development. In the past they have made other VR games like Kittypocalypse, but nothing that would allow them to burn infinite money. Seems like a financial catastrophe (unless psvr2 version sold a lot). They did launch at a $32 price which might have been a bit steep for a Quest 2 user.

PCVR isn't 'dead' imho it has found its home in simulation titles and mods. Meta has flooded the market with good value hardware but its encouraged a factory of mostly low quality VR titles that are built for standalone which by its very nature highly limited in its capabilities. Meta doesn't want people buying software on PC its wants to force you into its own store which offers 'virtual Early Access retro' not virtual reality. Meanwhile Sony thought it would be a good idea to make the PSVR2 exclusive to PS5 and look how that worked out... Its the companies trying to monopolise and own VR that are holding it back, fortunately imho it has reached enough adoption now not to die but does risk getting ever more niche.

@@bigbangerz5856 with 'dead' I mean from a developer's point of view. If you make a game of this quality, and get 16 reviews on steam... And FPS single player is not even the worst VR genre.
You just can't justify targeting PCVR, because you won't be able to feed yourself. You can port a quest game, you can add VR mode to a 2D game, you can uevr a 2D game, but targeting PCVR looks like a financial disaster.

@@golongself yes in that case I would agree the market hasn't grown in a way to do that for 99% developers, it would take another Valve release combined with a new Index2 type device assuming they want to do that

Genotype is pretty great - it's essentially a less alien Metroid. Evidently not same quality, but given how many VR indies are barely more than tech demos or pointless arenas, this has a lot of intent and production values that make it stand out - and obviously it flopped because VR audiences for the most part are not gamers.
I suspect you won't enjoy it much for the lack of many missing VR interactions with environment and battles are not that impressive at first, tho they ramp up as your arsenal grows and enemy swarms too. But it's essentially a "flat game" with VR mode...
I find it funny your comment about analog stick motion affording anywhere from slow walk to full run - that's been the normal modus operandi of console games since Super Mario 64 showcased one of the first gamepads with analog stick affording analog motion instead of the binary input from buttons or keys from before - sad that PC gaming is still into that NES stage to this day...
glad to see you enjoyed it tho

After catching a bit of the stream, I went to check out the steam page. This game looks, as I imagine you'd say....elementary. Seriously, this looks VERY boring. While the artwork looks ok, the actually gameplay looks about as bland as Battle Talent.
