  • Another viewer has submitted a question about how to deal with a slideshow generated by PowerDirector that contains both portrait and landscape images. And specifically he asks if there is any way to eliminate the black bars that will appear on the portrait images.
There are several methods of eliminating the black bars. Some of them require a little work ahead of time by the user and one of them is something that Cyberlink won't like hearing about.

Brian - thanks very much for your response and suggested fixes - I did not provide you with all the information - I dont use the Slideshow Generator but use the old fashioned method of loading all the videos and images on to the Timeline and them try to massage them from there. I had the mixture of videos and landscape and portrait images all on the same track which I think made things difficult - I have since tried loading only videos on 1 track, portraits on another and landscapes on another as well as separate tracks for Titles, Overlays etc. It makes it time consuming when trying to achieve a chronological end product but an still experimenting with this. I have a large challenge in that I have around 7k-8k images and videos from a 2 year motorhome journey around Europe. Really enjoy your tutorials - they are very professionally presented and cover the topics very well - mcheers Rob

I often use the same portrait image on 3 layers moving two to either side then blur them. Or another method is to use more than 1 portrait image and use the collage facility which fills the entire 16:9 screen with multiple portrait images.

I guess my favorite is the motion template. I always love the pan & zoom when used on portrait images.

I liked the video. I used to grapple with the same issue. Then I started using colour bars as background on a lower numbered track to change the dull black. Then I graduated to using one of the slideshow pics as background. I use the blur effect on the background pic. It looks good. The degree of blur can be adjusted to your liking.

Sounds like you have worked out a good solution that keeps you happy. Glad to hear that.

Yes, I recognize that the Slide Show in DP is not ideal when you have 16:9 and 9:16 images. For this reason, I avoid 9:16 as much as I can during my photographic outings. Personally I find 9:16 ridiculous, our eyes, reality will never be in 9:16.
Personal opinion, of course. Thank you for raising this topic.

You'd be surprised at how many soccer moms didn't know that you could rotate the cell phone 90 degrees. :-)

    Hi
Any chance of doing a tutorial on Speed Ramping

Yes, good idea. I've added that subject to my list of things coming up. You'd actually be surprised just how much of this technique is used in nearly all of my posted videos. Sometimes I have to speed up the video so that the duration time gets slowed down in order to keep pace with the voice over.
