I first met Micho (and Doolin, and the O'Connors) when I came to West Clare, to collect Micho, and be his travel companion when he was booked for small concert dates in the NE USA. I did not know him long enough to call him a good friend, certainly a friend, though... but in that short time, I spent a lot of time in his company. He gave me an Ireland that was quickly fading. some of the old ways of song and story. He was my personal seanchaí, as I drove him to and fro. The tales from his youth, and his parent's youth, and Doolin of long ago. He gave me an eye-level education on Irish Traditional Music. A remarkable man whose memory lives in my heart...I'll lift my glass tonight and speak his name.
Very well done, a great tribute indeed...love it! I don't think a day has passed over the past 12 months of lockdown when I have not played "Shades of Gloria" (especially love the Maura O'Connell city roots live version..but don't tell Gerry that) as I missed being in Doolin so much last year. Already booked for later this year so, here's hoping! "And I am going to the country, where Micho in his prime, Weaves a thread of melody, in his own sweet time, And you can hear him sing and whistle, anytime you care, To go running with the Shades of Gloria".
Hi B! Thanks for the comment! In this video I play one of Cilian O Brien's whistles, he tweaks them and they only cost about €30. Great whistles! I hope that helps 😊
@@user-qb6pt1fb3t Great to hear you're learning that tune :) So I just watched the video back, and that C is actually where I take my breath every time, so I don't play it 😅😅 But I do play it on the concertina though, it's the right note (C natural). If you'd like I can send you a quick recording with the C natural included, just send me an email!
I've been trying to learn this tune for many years. This is going to be a gigantic help to me. Thanks for this.

A remarkable man indeed, you are blessed to have such memories of Micho 🥰 I hope I did him justice with this little tune!

Well done Micko would have liked it very much.

@@TunesFromDoolin Hi, thanks for the reply! It's a sweet sounding whistle for sure and a cracking tune.
@@user-qb6pt1fb3t Oh yeah I love this tune! And it's very common in sessions around Doolin!
Hi, Are you playing the c natural on the first line of the tab? To me it doesn't sound right, I'm a beginner trying to learn the tune.
Thanks
