The design makes this AC a possible alternative to ductless DYI systems. It works great. The remote control could be more visual aid oriented like a backligh design. Is impossible to see the lcd at least for me. Easy install ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_hHgTlzH3uk31Fe2RVS3xEbXHGaN_z5Tation. Came on time . Great comfort around the house 5 🌟 again. Follow mfg instructions for care and all and this should be the only AC you need for those of is that don't live in new homes with central AC

+Matt, I have followed you for a few years now. My wife and I are now living in a 7,000 sf 1935ish school house in North Alabama that we have been renovating for the past two years. Most of my decisions were based on building science I picked up in your videos. I used the ZipR sheathing, metal roof with air spacing, closed cell foam insulation, wall within a wall to break thermal bridging, and whole house Mitsubishi mini splits. I have 13 heads/zones with five outdoor compressors. I am sure others would have made different decisions, but so far we are extremely happy with our electric bill averaging under $300 per month. My installer said Mitsubishi wants to feature our house in some ads. Could not have done it without your videos.

When I was in Iraq in 2004-2006 as a consultant in the US Embassy, Baghdad, we worked in locally built buildings and they all used these ductless systems. They are very quiet, with remote controls and were great. About time we get them in the US.

I installed a multi mini split system for my house this year and it cut my power consumption in half. It was a a Samsung four zone but I only used it for three rooms I installed it myself but I let the AC guys recharge it for me since I didn't have the tools. These are great systems and they are super quiet. I was a bit worried of placing the outside unit close to my bedroom window but I now know that I don't even hear it running. I would recommend these units any day. And guys if you are worried that they protrude in the inside walls, there is another option known as the Cassettes that are completely concealed from the top of the ceiling. If I can do it, you can do it too but be careful plan right and execute right...

I love mini-splits but don’t forget about the maintenance each head unit will need each year. You can diy it but it would be a major pain in the butt if you had more than one or two head units or cassettes. If you don’t clean them at least yearly expect mold problems-something not an issue with central ducted ac units. This yearly maintenance is distinguished from the minor yearly maintenance on a ducted ac system (ie coil cleaning).

I have a new ducted Mr. Slim 4 ton system on our new house with 5 zones. Thought we were getting state of the art equipment but. One day the rooms are freezing cold and the next it is hotter than hell. We never touch the thermostat. Nobody knows what is happening. It does run quite but it runs all the time.

  • @AtticFoil

Matt, Nice video! I think moving forward, all high performance construction will head this way using inverter technology with multiple zoning. I did my high performance home with three Mitsubishi Multi Port units with ten indoor units - 6 ducted and 4 ductless (including one ductless on the patio). The efficiency and the comfort are simply amazing. Quite, NO light flicker and dead-on consistent room temps since you are always moving air to eliminate stratification and matching capacity with the load along with constant dehumidification. Plus, you have the EXTRA capacity (without oversizing/short cycling) if you have a party and have 40 people standing around in your kitchen/family room.
Here are a couple of suggestions: Always use the exterior L-Bracket wall mounts for the outdoor units. This gets the outdoor units off the ground and away from leaves, pets, pests etc. Also, the refrigerant can get a little noisy running through the line set. I'd recommend running the line sets outside an exterior wall and use a gutter downspout to hide them instead of imbedding them in a wall. This keeps them quite and accessible.
My only complaint is that I have had to replace 2 of the 3 control boards in two years. No particular reason, they just died. Under warranty, but still a concern it's going to keep happening.
Al, is right, the best thing is to be able to close the master bedroom door and run it at 68º at night while keeping the rest of the house at 75º.

Right now we use a single window unit to cool the living area, not very well either! May get some issues with stratification that can be solved with a ceiling fan, but your answer is going to fall on how much power is being used inside, how hot it gets outside, and how well "well insulated" is.

My condenser coil in the attic has a drip catch tray that goes to a drain. How does this system transport condensation and lower the indoor humidity? In the absence of a drip line from the unit, a separate dehumidifier would be needed in humid areas, which basically will wipe out the efficiency savings....update, I went and 'googled' that, it will need a drain line and if you dont place in a spot close to a pipe, it will need a pump system to carry the condensate to a drain pipe.

I bought 2 MHI Non Inverter Models 2.2 and 1.6, they are great, using them since 3 years. Haven't got a since issue and no repairs. Don't expect service from ME or MHI, but you need a good AC technician to get the best out of them during installation and I don't rely on the company for warranty and service, so if you can manage this then ME/MHI is awesome. Now I am also confused too, which one to buy. Now I want to buy ME, and it has a great reputation too. If it is for a big room then MHI 2.2 is perfect, if you want R32 variant that is also energy efficient then 2.0 T ME MS-JP non Inverter will be perfect.

Unless you're familiar with pipe welding and refrigeration, then I think you should leave it to a pro. There are so many little things that you need to do correctly for it to work. Use a licensed and bonded company for everything involving HVAC. Even installing a thermostat can cause problems if you cross the wrong wires together.

The first time of being away for a few weeks, with the unit left on, we returned to a gray powdery mold on many surfaces. Some worst than others. The unit would not remove enough humidity even in the dry mode. Our issue was not the unit itself having mold in it. We had to order a dehumidifier, and that took care of the issue. We bought one with a pump, and run the drain line to the water heater pipe that drains outside. We leave it on, and when the tank fills, it automatically turns the pump on to drain the tank.

Just had my Fujitsu RLS2H (12000btu) installed on Friday.
The objective was to heat a 1300 sq.ft. unfinished open area basement.
During the Winter this area would remain in the 40's f drawing heat from the rest of the house.
As a consequence the heating system was working harder to maintain temperature on the main floors of a 2 storey house.
Even with our fireplace going all day long we could never surpass 68f throughout the house.
The Fujitsu brought the basement from 48f on Friday to 63f today Sunday.
As the basement warmed up over the last 48hrs the whole house has warmed considerably.
We are seeing temps of 75f on the first floor which were never before achievable.
The main heating system of the home, which is a central York heat pump, has not come on since installing the Fujitsu.
I am totally blow away by the performance of the 27.2 seer unit. It has a low temp cut off of -26C.
I see these mini splits taking over from the larger whole house units.
When the time comes I will certainly replace my 11 year old York with a mini split.
If you have been sitting on the fence contemplating one of these units sit no longer.
Do your research and due diligence and buy what's best for your needs and you will never regret it.

Buy the smaller units...6000 or 12,000 BTu’s. Why? They run 24/7 and the smaller units use the least amount of watts on low. Crunch the numbers and run them out for running on low for the year with the different units and you will see the what I’m talking about. The smaller units use 150 watts per hour on low that is 0.36 per day at ten cents per Kilowatt hour. Where as the larger units use 550 watts per hour on low which is $1.32 per day. Buying the smaller units save you $365 a year! They all put out 135 degree heat running on high! And when they get up to temp they all run on low! If you are in a well SEALED area this is the best unit on the market!

      Mr Slim is the best!
When I walk by it in the SUMMER or Winter... I say “ I LOVE this unit!” .... In my 66 years of living I NEVER said that before !
When I go to Florida for the winter it keeps my place at 50° for less than $1 per day on a well sealed 1200 sqft area in Canada.
The only down side is to maintain the warrenty for the 12 years I have to schedule a $150 annual inspection ...that adds another $1800 to the total bill.
Make sure you totally understand all the conditions of the 12 year warrenty before buying any Mitsubishi product.
Bottom line... YES, I recommended this product compared to all the other choices.

Only negative on a house with many zones is yearly maintenance. Each wall unit and cassette will require cleaning by a HVAC tech or other professional unless you are a solid DIY er. If you don’t, your mini split can become a mold machine.

I just don’t get why split air conditioners with variable speed compressors are not that prevalent in American homes.
These have long existed here in Asia.

,27 year A.C. & appliance. I retired 10 years ago , wish they (,"Mitsubishi) was around sooner, lol. I RESEARCHED THESE units app.10 years ago and found out in South Louisiana, with high humidity, the performance AC was weak,,( several years ago),,I was getting calls because of lack of cooling. The unit was operating as designed & efficiency was impressive.to me."Has the technology for high humidity areas ever improved?-& how well will these units move the air and reduce humidity?,,I recently noticed many have been installed in chain stores here in the south.I will be interested in a unit after my new shop is completed. Thanks,☆☆☆☆

I want to know why my unit smells like death, 8 year old dirty socks, the worst smell in the world where you cannot even stay in the room. And no one will help me. The AC people who installed it are not helping me and coming up with excuse after excuse. I paid $$$$$$$$$$$ for this unti and very upset over this entire ordeal. I need help. I would never have purchased this horrible smelling unit. And no there are no dead animals in the system. Please help me

Your drain tube is plugged... gently back flush it then spray down the coils and get the water you spray onto the coils freely flowing out the drain tube.

I always thought these couldn’t REALLY be as quiet as they say they are in the videos. I thought they’re must be some noise that I will be ever so slightly bothered by. Maybe need to raise the volume of the TV or talk a little louder to be heard. But no! Our Mistubishi mini split is less than whisper quiet. It is hard to tell it’s on when you’re five feet in front of it. And it puts out plenty of cold air. Wonderful technology!

Have had a splitter unit for less than two, years. Internal coil is leaking. Paid company in Charlottesville Virginia that installed unit $500 to find problem and will have to pay same amount or more to install new parts. Part is covered but paid $1,000 after less than two years. I would not recommend unit. Called Mitsubishi customer service. They were indifferent

When they run, they run good. Problem is when they get a little old you will not be able to get parts for them!!!! Mitsubishi sucks!! I know I own them.

Mitsubishi Air Conditioners are Inferior quality products. It’s easy to breakdown due to fragile parts.
I bought a Mitsubishi Air Conditioner MXY-3G28VA2 on Jan 2018. Now it's Cooling Fan, Control PC Board spoilt. The seller said it's natural damage.
If a human die at his 70s, 80s years old, it’s natural ; but if he die at his 7 or 8 years old, it’s not natural, it’s abnormal.
Obviously this is due to the poor quality of Mitsubishi Air Conditioners.
