I share your enthusiasm completely. My favorite gun is my Springfield Armory GI m1911a1. I even replaced the nice wood grips it originally had with GI plastic grips. Absolutely love that gun...a real work of art.
I've owned one for about 7 years now and couldn't be happier. Loosened up over time but still good frame to slide fit. If you make ANY 1911 tight, failures will continually happen. I will be getting the commanderversion early next year. Definitely a top 5 must have.
@@usedgundude1035And my 1st 1911 ever was a R1 Govt. Model for $299 (after a Rebate) followed a year later by the R1 Enhanced Model for $349 after Rebate... Both have proven to be most reliable and very accurate!
Haha. This was my first pistol sort of. Its not quite like it was when I got mine back in the early 80s. I had to work the pistol up out of the box. The barrel bushing and barrel lug needed to be tightened and the slide had to be worn in. Other than that I installed a recoil spring and guide rod buffer kit and had the feed ramp polished. Its a great pistol. $350 I paid for it brand new. Now they are $489. I put a lot of rounds through mine before I sold it when the wonder nine craze happened. But I did later get a used Argentina stamped Colt 1911 for a competition pistol and sadly that one too got sold. Thanks for sharing.
I have yet held a "1911" from anywhere I hated. My wife ordered me a Star Super A in 9mm Largo years ago, and it was a shooter. Love the platform, thanks for the view RB M, UGD
I love my Auto Ordnance 1911A1. I can drop plates at 25 yards with it, which is good enough for me. The only thing I don't like about it is the serrated trigger face - rough on the trigger finger. Wish they made a (more comfortable) military-type trigger.
I have one of these. I personally carry a Springfield 1911 Mil- Spec Denfender. Reason why: its heavy duty-ness and three dot sights. BUT my A.O is my home defender. I think this is a great home defender pistol and to be honest I like how it feels in my hand better. The A.O is a very very cool gun
Sometimes you just gotta have a gun just because it's the right thing to do. Any self respecting gun guy has to have a parkerized 1911. Nice acquisition Dude.
I recently purchased a new AO 1911A1 BKO. Unfortunately the front sight flew off after only 218 rounds. It was disappointing, but I'm salivating at the thought of shooting it again. It's a sweet shooter. It's ready to be shipped back to me from Kahr Arms. Gr8 vid. 🔫
Only has one name... Auto Ordnance. The other names are the other companies Auto Ordnance has acquired during its time in business. The plastic grips were made exactly that way (Plastic) on purpose. The reasoning... to prevent wood rot on the pistol during the WWI and WWII conflict... however more so during the Vietnam war. Now you know. Shoot lots and stay safe.
Perfect gun for home defense! There’s a reason it’s been around over 100 years and it’s not because it’s pretty! It’s because it’s absolutely lethal! Study it’s history!
Yesterday my buddy the Bucket is adding a second gun to the bedroom. He asked me what in his collection should make it. His Colt 1911 circa 1933 was my answer. A hammer that runs. Thanks for the view, UGD
That's a beautiful 1911 that you've got there. I actually picked up one by Auto Ordnance yesterday. I think it was manufactured sometime in the 80s. It was put together in the west Hurley New York plant back in the day. I've called up Thompson or whatever the hell the company is now and question them with the serial number as far as the month and year of manufacture but not even they can tell me. So that's one thing I'm trying to find out. The only complaint I have about this one is that well it's been tricked out to look like one of the 1911 from the 2004 Punisher movie and that's all fine and grade I mean whatever it's got a lot of really nice aftermarket accessories that have given it a hair trigger... But this bullshit two-piece guide rod is seized together now in one piece and I cannot get it apart. This makes 1911 number 12 for me. You could say I have a bit of an addiction problem with them. All of them with the exception of the one I picked up yesterday and a pair of Rock Island.. All of them are the same model as the one in this video. M1911 A1 g i model world war world war era style. one of my daughters gives me shit all the time telling me I have an addiction to the 1911 that's more like an obsession and then I have to remind her about her clothes and shoes. And that ends that conversation. But what was said about John Browning not knowing that so many decades over a century later... That this firearm design would still be going as strong as it is how could he know? And you're right how could he know...? I'm not the authority on the subject by any means.. but typically a firearm comes into military and maybe a decade or two at most later and it's the next best thing according to them. And I know that the 1911 has pretty much all been phased out of the military but there are still a handful that carry them. I am not a descendant of John Moses Browning although I am a blood descendant of Christopher Colt. The father of Samuel Colt. And I am incredibly proud that my family my extended family rather.. I'm very proud that my extended family had their hands and manufacturing weaponry that has kept our country free for so long. The 1911 in my opinion... The best pistol design ever. Browning knew what the hell he was doing with this one. I mean look at the testing it went through just to be approved by the military. When it was starting to overheat they literally just dumped it in the water and then kept going with it. That's amazing I mean how many modern firearms that are not a 1911 can you do that with? And I'm not sure of the round count I want to say it was somewhere between 2,000 and 5000 cartridges. And I know that's a big window but I'm just not certain of the number. But I'd like to see anybody take a Glock and put a couple thousand rounds through it... In rapid quick succession only pausing to dunk it in water to cool it off and let's see how long it lasts. Anyway thanks for reading my ranch. This was a well thought-out well executed video. I do hope that that 1911 give you many many years of reliable service. I don't see why it won't. 🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏
Not for carry or for home defense, and it's too greasy to make a good paperweight.:) It is kinda cool to sit on the couch, twirl it around your finger, and dry fire it at the TV when some member of a certain political party is making a speech. Of course, my old lady doesn't let me do that when she's at home. But you're right, it does have cool factor, if not CDI factor. Actually, I bought an Auto Ordnance GI 1911, with no firing pin block, new for about $360 in the early 90s, just because every red-blooded American boy should own a 1911. Didn't really shoot it much, because it gave me a bad case of hammer bite, and I couldn't hit the ground with those crappy GI sights. So eventually I had a gunsmith mill the slide and install some Wilson Combat tritium sights. Added the rounded hammer and beaver tail grip safety myself. Pachmayr stocks made it fit my hand a little better. Having made it shootable, I put a few hundred rounds through it. Then the extractor stopped extracting. One of these days I'll get around to fixing that. If it were a car, it would be up on blocks right now. Aside from the cool factor, the A.O. GI 1911 has the added advantage of always giving you something to work on.
I did carry a full sized Colt 1911, then I found out about Sig P250. I'm sold on less weight for carry, but 1911 is always top on my list for range guns. Thanks for the view mwj, UGD
The ejector is a cheap cast unit and often causes a problem, which many think is the extractor. It is less than $8 from Auto Ordnance so don't let it sit any longer.

I've had my 1911 Auto-Ordnance since 1993. Never an issue, just keep it greased and oiled.
I got some - go get one, best pistol design ever made. indestructible, reliable, accurate, American.made never met a 1911 I didn't like !

It was a lucky find. Have spent some quality time with her. UGD

I'm looking to purchase one of these this week, as a companion piece to my 1928 Thompson, already have the 1911 to be companion to my Colt H-Bar...
