I saw Ladybeard/ Dead Lift Lolita live in 2019 and they were incredible. One part wrestling show, one part concert.
My quick understanding. One of the largest stores in Japan (that sells a lot of the stuff you see in the video) wanted to create a band and this is the results. There are English subs so the context is easier to understand, it is basically a promo for visiting Japan and all the things you can buy. Ladybeard had to leave Japan for a while on a visa problem so the band broke up. The two girls, Rei and Rie were idols before this and since the band disbanded both started new bands. Ladybaby was reformed with Rie and three other girls, one a growler, they are more metal. They are now (since 2020) officially on a break (not sure if they will come back). The other girl Rei started a new band, Brats, with her sister playing bass, this band is more hard rock/metal/punk and pretty good and still releasing songs. Ladybeard also started a new band (Deadlift Lolita) with a female pro wrestler and did a PSA video about getting more exercise.
Pretty sure most bands were/are on a forced break in 2020/2021. But, yeah, hard to say if they'll be around after the quarantines lifts. Bunch of people had to move on because of finances.
may i also add lady beard is currently performing with the band babybeard.
The guy started another band with a well known Japanese female body builder called Dead Lift Lolita. The Dark hair girl is called Rei and she has a great band called BRATS who recently released a new album and several film clips to go with it. She has a great voice. She's still only 18yo as far as I know and she has been releasing music for years infact as a child she did a Scandle cover (shojo s I think) so she's pretty talented. Please check out Brats.
May I suggest the latest episode of the Trash Taste Podcast here in youtube, where Ladybeard himself is the guest and actually explains the beginnings of Ladybaby and also his wrestling/crossdressing/singing/voiceacting/each career.

Ladybaby is part of Kawaii Metal sub genre but had a provocative angle starting with having an older cross dresser male as his gimmick for wrestling with these two 13 year old girls. The story goes beyond that especially with the girls being photo models where there was some questionable pics taken at a young age to the two girls, Rie and Rei becoming supposedly in a sort of relationship. The groups story is very interesting up until the “group” stopped their activities after the third iteration of the group. There’s live performances of how emotional the original member was affected, Rie by the loss of Ladybeard and Rei leaving on a song called Hard Knock Generation. You can also see the connections the two original girls in the mv of songs when it was “The Idol Formerly Known as Ladybaby” such as Easter Bunny, Ladybaby Blue and Pinky Pinky and others and have had solo songs from both as well as a couple songs from Rei on her now group “Brats”!
In case you don't know, Ladybeard formed another 3 member group called BABYBEARD. Since the original LADYBABY is gone, maybe if you want to hear a newer stuff with similar style with this, check them out.

This "project" was shortlived in this form. The 3 members go to others projects. Rie Kaneko is with "The Idol Formerly Known as Ladybaby". Ladybeard with "Deadlift Lolita" (you must check out SIX PACK TWINS!). And Rei Kuromiya with "BRATS" (you definitely must check out 14-sai-byou PV!!!).
Six Pack Twins is friggin' awesome.
Also! Ladybeard has a new band, Babybeard, with the same concept as Ladybaby and including the same musicians. Apparently they were ready to debut in 2020, but we know how that year went.

Awesome reaction. I'm a metal head myself, I listen to American, European and now also Japanese metal. You got to react to bandmaid, lovebites. You won't be disappointed.

Thank you for giving Kawaii Metal a serious look. A lot of metal heads dismiss it outright. I love Black Metal as much as the next girl, but sometimes you just want to feel cute!
I really think the people who hate kawaii metal are a very small group. Most people don't know it exists and most metal fans who know of it at least like it. I think the problem is that it's introduced as a metal genre when really it isn't. It's a fusion of Japanese Idol music and metal. That was how i was introduced to it. Babymetal is not and never was a metal band.
They get accepted as a Metal band because they're awesome and popular. But that doesn't make it true. There are punk-rock fans who try to claim Black Sabbath for punk. I feel like simply saying they're a metal band sets up unfair expectations for Babymetal. Most people are going to love them anyways because they're awesome but i feel that is why the haters are so mad.

@fuknwastd - Yes you're definitely a poser. I bet if you changed genres of music you'd have to change your entire wardrobe. You sound like one of those posers who dresses like a metal band but isn't in one and can't play any instruments.

I don't know if they were a band. Their first song was a commercial. They definitely turned into a band for a while. But i don't think that is what they were. It's definitely a humorous take on Babymetal. BABYMETAL -> LADYBABY. I think it's pretty cool and funny. I don't think music has to be super serious all the time i love bands like Bloodhound Gang who make funny songs. Or even Stephen Lynch who is a straight up singing comedian.

You should see Ladybeard's Chun Li cosplay. To stick with the Beard for reaction suggestions (Ladybaby continued on with 2 more girls replacing him) try Deadlift Lolita's Pump Up Japan. Bonus points for every member of the DDT roster you can identify other than Danshouku Dino for... dick flip reasons (ignore the other guy from those viral videos)
Babymetal is more metal than kawaii. Ladybaby was more kawaii than metal. IMHO. Also, there are three incarnations of Ladybaby. View the m/v Pinky! Pinky! for a fun example of the second incarnation w/o Ladybeard and m/v Haten Ni Raimei for an example of the third. Rest In Power, Ladybaby!
