Recently rcv'd the AE Higgins Mill and I'm thoroughly satisfied. I wear a size 11 in Red Wing and Thorogood boots, but my measured size is 11.5. I ordered size 11.5 and the fit is literally perfect. Comfortable on day one and by day two I felt like I'd been wearing them for months. I'm a very casual (I call it lightly soiled) dresser and I expect that after some wear and tear that these boots will look more casual. Factory seconds and required bright lighting and very close inspection to discern any imperfections. Love these boots. Great review/comparison.
Finding a last that cradles your foot, the way you describe it - priceless. Hard to ever buy from another boot maker. For me it’s Carmina’s Oscar and Inka lasts. They fit like a glove and once you feel that kind of fit it’s tough to do anything else.
I know it’s not as dressy, but if I had to chose one (plain toe, leather midsole with a flattish outsole, chromexcel) within this price range, I’d chose the Nick’s Falcon, quick ship in the same chromexcel. And it’s stitchdown as well, with no cork, all leather inside.
On a whim, I bought a pair of the Higgin's Mill when I was in an Allen Edmonds store. I loved the way they looked and felt from the start. A year later, I still feel good about my purchase and they still look great. The only downside is that after a year, they are slightly different in color, one is a bit darker, but it's not glaring and I chalk it up to giving it a bit of character because it scores so well on all other counts.
Personally, I have tried the Grant Stone, but for some reason I always come back to Allen Edmonds. For some reason they fit me the best even when compared to other less prolific boot companies. Allen Edmonds have a loyal customer in me (I’m rocking their Normandies right now, and I have two more), but I’m terrified to try Alden’s now as I’m pretty sure I’ll change allegiance to them seeing the quality. Excellent video man!
I was going to go with the Alden but then I watched Rose Anvil cut them in two. Lots of corners cut and I will never buy an Alden boot after seeing that. Sad because they look great.
Hi Nick, Do you have any tips on how to break in boots? I think some people just have feet that are tougher but you probably know some good ways that result in less pain. BTW just subscribed to your channel and I really love that you have such a narrow focus. I know I can trust your opinions about boots because you are obviously an expert on this subject.
Never tried Grant Stone. But I do have a pair of Alden Indy’s. I did try to attempt to buy Higgins Mill but the quality control was a joke after 3 attempts. 3 strikes and you’re out. I always thought my Red Wings were very comfortable until I bought a pair of Alden Indy’s. My feet feel like butter in the Trubalance last. The arch support is definitely the difference too. In the Trubalance last my heel and balls of feet feel locked in with PLENTY of room in the toes. I’m pretty much sold out on the Trubalance last. However IMO Red Wing makes the best leathers out there. I’m not a huge fan of CXL. My next pair of Alden boots are going to be calfskin. I wish Alden would use leathers from SB Tanning but the leathers probably wouldn’t be a good fit with Alden’s.
Have a couple Grant Stones and 3 Alden Indy’s… Have to say I like them both but the Alden’s the most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned…. Love the Indy’s…
Stridewise haha yep! Your videos definitely helped influence me in my hunt for the perfect fall boot 😀. I didn’t love the fit of the Alden and the Higgins Mill had a few QC issues. The Grant Stone Ottawa is a tank and very high quality, so it ended up being the best for fit for me.
I really love your videos. I feel like you’re the only person who does actual research instead of just “winging it”. It’s very much appreciated, thank you! If only you could get with Rose Anvil and have him cut up boots you’ve reviewed, that would be cool. Expensive, wasteful, but cool. ✌️😁 thanks for your hard work!
Thanks Jamie! Yeah I'm a health writer during the day so I know how to do research haha. One day I'll do a collaboration with Rose Anvil for sure! Well, if they want to...
Indy's always felt best on my foot - the arch support is great and I can walk for many miles in them without any discomfort at all. They're also versatile. I have a unique 405 model with a cognac Horween calf leather that has a nice patina, and they can be dressed up for work casual or taken on a hike and beaten around.
Alden vs Allen Edmonds ! What a hard choice I love my iron rangers but I’m interested in something a little higher end . I like the Alden and the pseudo moc toe really catches my eye but it seems dishonest and Alden Indy’s prices is a bitter pill to swallow, the Allen Edmonds are more subtle and look better for my style probably and it’s $340 right now on sale and that’s a price I’m more comfortable, oh woa is me to be poor guess I’ll have to save up and get what I really want :l lmao I might just get some more iron rangers:P
Love the channel. Bought myself some RM Williams Comfort Craftsman Dark Tan about a month ago and I also find myself wearing them around the house, so comfortable. Keep it up and best wishes from New Zealand.
Haha! Right?? I knew it sounded like I was full of it when I said I sometimes lounge around my home wearing the Comfort Craftsman boots but they really are like slippers. Glad you like the videos Robbie, say hey if you're ever in NYC!
Do a comparison of the Thursday Captain or President boots against the Allen Edmonds Sullivan boot. The AE is more expensive but close in price when you account for sales and factory seconds, and the styling/purpose are nearly identical. The AE Sullivan is a criminally overlooked boot (like the Higgins), but where the Higgins is a solid dressy heritage boot, the Sullivan is a shockingly sophisticated dress boot. It has a refined, shoe-like taper pairs nicely with a suit and elevates the traditional blazer and jeans outfit.
Great review...I have the Allen Edmunds long branch which is the most comfortable boot in my collection...hope you do a review of them...I think many have been sleeping on them 🙂
I think the Diesels are the best boot from GS and much better than the Alden’s and AE’s. I have the Ottawa’s and they are made similarly like the diesels so that’s why I think the diesels are the better of the 3 although I would like to see you do a video on the Ottawa’s and the Alden Indy’s.
A sale on the Alden boot in a plain toe should put it in first place. The water resistancy was an odd thing to give or take points either way considering the quality control issues of the AE and place of manufacturer for the Grant Stone. Another point of modern shoe buying consideration is resale, of which the Alden imo definitely has the edge.
I wasn't necessarily saying water resistance is more or less important than loose grain, I was just noting pros and cons that different people might weigh differently depending on their tastes/lifestyle. Resale is a good point for the Alden!
Stridewise I might be bias, owning a pair of tobacco suede plain toe Aldens, but most buyers probably won't notice or know what loose grain is or actually test in a real way the water resistance of a good year or storm welt. I'd eventually like to get a pair of AE and GS to compare. If you could do a follow-up video if any major quality issues arise from either boot that would be great. Thanks for your time.
Thanks for yours! I appreciate receiving such a thoughtful comment. In circles I run in on r/goodyearwelt people get *really* upset about loose grain even though it doesn't actually affect the leather's durability, but people want great looking leather for their boots. Others just want boots that function well, others buy boots solely so their socks don't get wet in winter. I try to offer enough information to benefit as many people as I can, but it can be tough haha.
Stridewise the loose grain I truly didn't notice as a quality thing until you pointed it out, thought it was just the normal texture of the leather. I have a pair of Timberland Boot Co. Blake Winter 8' boots and it has the loose grain in a few spots but it's definitely a rougher looking mock toe boot. They're in a deep wine almost cordovan color so it's less noticeable. Thanks for the info and keep up the videos. Have you heard of Vivobarefoot's Gobi or Tracker boots? That might be a nice change of pace to tryout and review. They are from a minimalist shoe company.
Im deciding between two AE boots. Either Hamilton or Higgins. Which do you think will be best for someone who wears jeans and an untucked button shirt?
great review! i own both indy and higgins mill and your assessments are very accurate. my higgins mill is 1.5 years but do not have nearly as much loose grain and crease as yours, but like you said AE has QC issues and CXL is usually a hit or miss.
The comment about the boot leaking around the gap in the near the heel - I disagree with that being a problem. Cowboy boots are much similar in construction and never leak there - your toes always get wet first. Even with a gap, that’s a pretty well sealed area, much farther away from moisture compared to the toe.
Alden's site says to go down a half size from my bannock size. Do you recommend going down a size in length and width? I am a 10.5 E-EE in Allen Edmonds and Dress shoes. So I would need a 10 D or 10 E?
Nice review thanks. I would take the Alden. Best quality. Looks, Made USA. I have boots to beat, for snow, for wet weather. I do not consider any of them suitable for snow/rain or winter conditions.
9:27 You said you were an 11.5 in the Aldens then at 9:40 you said you were an 11 in the Alden’s. I’m a 10 in Red Wings so I just wanted to make sure I ordered the right size in Alden’s.
Oh my bad. Yeah I'm 11.5 in Alden. Most people who get 11s in Red Wing/Grant Stone would be an 11 in Alden but for me it didn't feel quite right at the toe break, I talk about this in my latest sizing video
Glad you liked it! One thing I didn't mention is Grant Stone has a Chromexcel version now (they didn't when I bought them) which could be a very interesting compromise between the two.
Is neo cork grippy compared to dianite? I never have experience with neo cork. I do have dianite and RM WIlliams comfort craftman. Dianite has decent grip but the comfort craftman is quite slipery.
If the Indy's were good enough for Indiana Jones, theyre good enough for me! Allen Edmond's Higgins Mill boots have substantial QC issues. i can confirm that.
Stridewise. Yeah I have always wore red wing work boots and don’t mind to pay for quality. I think thorogood and red wings heritage style boots are hard to beat for what you get compared to most of the competition. To me they offer more value for quality than a lot of their competitors. Just my opinion. I have been wanting a toe cap boot, what would you recommend in the iron ranger price range? Just stick with it? Also considered Thorogoods 1892 Dodgeville.
Halfdollar 86 I have Red Wings and Alden Indy’s. My experience is the Alden’s are considerably and noticeably more comfortable than all my Red Wings. I believe it’s because Alden’s have better arch support.
The Grant Stone seems a bit better quality compared to Allen Edmunds, comparable to Alden but you get much better welts and a significantly lower price. While I think Grant Stone should be a little cheaper, their value do justify the cost.
@@Stridewise Was actually a bit shocked when I heard you say some people think they should be cheaper. Maybe some of their standard line boots could be, but I honestly think they punch far above their price point. Recently picked up the Forest Kudu's and they punch WELL above their price point at $340. Made in China doesn't really matter when their craftsman and QA is on point (which it is after multiple pairs).
First pair of nice boots I've purchased are the Higgins Mill. I choose them based on your review. I am truly impressed. Do you have any information on the Ralph Lauren Livingstone Boot ?
Hey man interesting video! I’m wondering if you could do a video identifying and explaining all the different types of welts for shoemaking? Both my feet were crushed a few years ago and so I’m trying to design and create my own shoes/boots and potentially turn it into a company down the road. I’m trying to figure out what welt would work best to make them so making this video would help a lot! Cheers mate 🤘
Wow that's quite a story. Yeah I've wanted to do one on that but a lot of people disagree on what a Norwegian welt is and stuff so it gets tough haha, I will though I just need to consult with the right experts. Meanwhile here's an article I wrote that might help: stridewise.com/goodyear-welt-vs-blake-stitch-vs-cement/
Stridewise thanks for the link I’ll check it out! And yeah the Norwegian welt is the one that has me the most intrigued at the moment as I live in Canada and want it to be really resilient to the elements but still look good. I’ve been thinking at some point to get an engineer and a boot maker together and create some kind of new welt. That’s probably wayyy down the road though. Cheers mate 👊
You might look at Ashland Leather's You Tube video featuring Wyatt Gilmore (owner of Grant Stone) as he describes the evolution and more importantly where all the materials come from that ultimately are manufactured in China with U.S. Quality control. No argument that the pricing could be $50 less just from the impression China gives a product. No doubt some very good products are made in China while being sourced from top notch vendors.
Hi Nick, can I have your opinion on the Alden Indy 403 - what size to buy online? (we don't have an Alden shoe shop around) I wear a Cole Haan "Hamilton Grand Penny" (men size, US 9 M) and for Doc Martens 1460 boot (men size, US 10). Many thanks!
Hey man I found they fit pretty true to size? Measure your foot on a brannock device and round down to the closest half size, that's what worked for me.
As for where to buy, it's almost impossible to find Alden boots at a discount, so it doesn't really matter where you buy them. The Shoe Mart is a very popular destination as they specialize in a lot of Alden make ups. For more unique Alden make ups, you could try specialty boutiques like the Brogue Shop.
What do you think of sub-$100 boots? I love my Higgins boots, but I consistently cycle back to my $60 plastic ankle boots for a day of soft, mushy comfort, and the style holds up with jeans and a polo.
Whatever you like you like man! Price is irrelevant when being yourself. :-) I have a pair of cheap Sonoma Boots and they are super comfortable and warm. Especially in winter!
Like the looks of the Grant Stone the most. Trust the build quality and comfort long term of the Alden, and the Allen Edmonds are a good choice all around if you don't like where the Grant Stones are made.
@@Stridewise just got a new pair of Grant Stone Ottawa Boots in today. Black Chromexcel( non shiny version), rubber soles and I kept the leather laces. Their packaging is top notch, with extra laces, metal shoe horn/bottle opener, shoe bags and a hand signed card. Bought the boot to do triple duty; jeans, khakis or a casual suit. I think you'd get a lot of use out of it and it shows beautifully.
@@Stridewise Thanks man! I just ordered a pair of Grant Stone Ottawas in 10.5d. I wear an 11d in my Higgins. Can't wait to try them out. Keep up the good work. I always look forward to your vids. Cheers.
I'm looking at buying my first Allen Edmonds boots and shoes and your video here is wonderful. I agree with the viewer below who says this is the best boot review on RUclips. Cheers :)
Love Allen Edmonds shoes, but for boots, I've tried Allen Edmonds, and Alden, but I prefer Wolverine 1000 mile boots. I have to check out Grant Stone next!
So I think the best are Tyler’s from Frye!😉 only because those are the boots I own so really can’t compare! But for what it’s worth my shoe cobbler owns and wears the Alden and those are what I’m getting next. Nice review, first timer and i enjoyed the content.
Three weeks in and these are the most uncomfortable boots I have owned. I think it was a defect from the factory, the little heel insole was making it feel like there was a lump under my arch. Unfortunately on a business trip it was so bad that I had to rip it out to make them comfortable enough to wear for the rest of the week. They are probably going to end up getting donated.
Grant stone all around top to bottom a better solid built that AE , I have 3 pairs if AE and 2 pairs of grant stone , AE is better in the comfortable wear that's it , as for the alden , again it's a better built than AE also.
Dumb question but I noticed that some of the stitching on the outsole of the Allen Edmonds were worn out, can the outsole then become loose with only glue holding it together?
Honestly, the Grant Stone is not considered since it is made in China. I’d love to see a comparison between the Alden Indy 405, and the Redwing Beckman 9016.
I may have missed it but I don’t remember you mentioning if the boots are recraftable!? Possibly all 3 can and that is why you didn’t mention it. However, the reason I buy AE is because of this long term legacy aspect. Cost per wear
Grant Stone for me is the winner hands down. I will NEVER buy an Alden. I can care less Harrison Ford wore them in a movie or they’re made in the US. I buy whatever in the hell i want with my money, this is a free market AND just look around house and you’ll be surprise how many things we use everyday are made in china… Alden boots quality is horrible and for $600… Hell NO!
I got excited about the Grant Stone until I saw the price. For a Chinese made product the retail price should be at least 30% less. For basically the same price I'm going to go with the American made Allen Edmonds every time.
I think the argument is less that "made in China is bad" and more that "made in China should be cheaper than made in America." To be fair a lot of people consider Grant Stone on par with Alden, which is more like $550.
I'm literally sitting in a factory in the United States right now. You don't know anything about me or my shopping habits so you might want to avoid big dumb assumptions like that.
The China boot? Buy American, so that one is not considered. The welt stopping at the heel on the Alden is not making friends with the cobbler is a deal breaker. The faux moc toe, really? Guess the Allen Edmonds gets my vote.
Grant Stone with a real Dainite sole would cost more than the Allen Edmonds. So they saved a ton of money by using an imitation component. That's supposed to be value? If AE used an imitation Dainite sole they could sell their shoe for $350 MSRP, and sub $300 during sales, but they would NEVER hear the end of it from the critics. Double standards.
I buy what looks good and fit nice on my feet , Grant Stone is awesome , educate yourself about them , they are not Chinese owners nor do the materials come from China, China factory get all the parts from USA and there job is to put it together that's it , and of course they are trained by Americans on how they want it,, owners are American
The fake moc toe on the modern looking boots looks cheesy and fake. I like the sleekness of these modern boots but the fake moc toes have to go. I think Thursday went back to an actual moc toe which looks much better if you want a moc toe boot.
I've never been a fan of the Alden Indy. I can appreciate the history of them and the coolness of them being part of the Indiana Jones franchise and how that came about, but I don't like the fake moc toe. Do a proper moc toe or not, I do not like the in between. Call me biased, but I just cannot bring myself to appreciate things that are made in China. I understand that not everything that is made in China is shit, but the amount of shit out there is so high that it does give the good stuff a bad reputation. Also, I like and try to buy things that are made in America. I will always buy things that were made here if I can, and if I can't than I will look for things made in Europe, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and other first world countries before I consider buying things made in China or other poor countries currently dominating the manufacturing game.
Yeah I know the Indy is divisive. It stands out from the crowd of boots though, which is something! Interesting you'd rather buy from Japan or South Korea than China. I can understand concerns about keeping money in your home country but I don't know, there's some pretty high quality made in China stuff out there. It's your money though!
Not all Higgins mills are wook shank, with AE its a crap shoot. Also the mid sole in the Higgins is 3m veg tanned leather in the Alden its compressed fiberboard. The heel stack in the AE is real stacked leather, in the Aldens it is not. I own both and AE is just built better. I’m not familiar with the Chinese boot.
IMHO, The Alden is the coolest and best quality. Allen Edmonds are boring and not as good quality as Alden. I have owned many Alden and Allen Edmonds shoes. I love the Aldens and keep them because of that. Allen Edmonds, I usually don't wear as much and sell them because I am not attached to them. As far as the Grant Stones are concerned, as you mentioned they are made in China and therefore I will never buy them. Also, as with all Chinese made goods, they are usually copies of American products, and the Grant Stone's are no exception. They copied the Alden long wing blucher and their recent brass boot line is a copy of the Alden Indy boot.

A lot of people like to treat the leather with a product like Hubberts shoe grease, that can help soften and break it in a lot faster.

great review! i own both indy and higgins mill and your assessments are very accurate. my higgins mill is 1.5 years but do not have nearly as much loose grain and crease as yours, but like you said AE has QC issues and CXL is usually a hit or miss.
Right! So glad you agreed with my review. Do you feel the Indy has good arch support as well - for a boot, anyway?
It’s a shame we can’t get these in UK
Allen Edmonds - good @ $200 (1/2 retail, commonly on sale) 👉🏻
Grant Stone - fairly priced 👍🏻
Alden - over priced 👎🏻
9:27 You said you were an 11.5 in the Aldens then at 9:40 you said you were an 11 in the Alden’s. I’m a 10 in Red Wings so I just wanted to make sure I ordered the right size in Alden’s.
Oh my bad. Yeah I'm 11.5 in Alden. Most people who get 11s in Red Wing/Grant Stone would be an 11 in Alden but for me it didn't feel quite right at the toe break, I talk about this in my latest sizing video
Ah... Good to see there's shoe trees in them boots! Great vid as always mate. :)
Haha thanks K Chan! I normally took them out for videos but now I know people are looking out for them
Great video, A.E. in my opinion. But I have never owned any of them.
Glad you liked it! One thing I didn't mention is Grant Stone has a Chromexcel version now (they didn't when I bought them) which could be a very interesting compromise between the two.
After Easter I’m probably going to buy the Alden Indy boot. A little celebration reaching 100 subscribers
Is neo cork grippy compared to dianite?
I never have experience with neo cork. I do have dianite and RM WIlliams comfort craftman.
Dianite has decent grip but the comfort craftman is quite slipery.
I found the Comfort Craftsman to have really good grip! The neo cork has better grip than you'd think but Dainite is better.
Stridewise neo cork isn’t as grippy but from my experience more comfortable.
What colour are those grant stones?
A discontinued color I'm afraid! It was called castagno veg
@Stridewise that's a damn shame, not a huge fan of their current diesel boots but I'd buy those in a heartbeat if they still sold them.
Great vid and info, thank you 👍
Any chance you can do a comparison between the Allen Edmonds Higgens vs Thursday Boots Captains or President? They look very similar :)
Great detail and review. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
I know SB Foot also does some of Allen Edmonds leather. Not much but they do some orders
Hm, must be some of their non-CXL stuff.
Cory Krau IMO opinion Red Wing has the best leathers in the industry. I’m not a big fan of CXL.
If the Indy's were good enough for Indiana Jones, theyre good enough for me!
Allen Edmond's Higgins Mill boots have substantial QC issues. i can confirm that.
Glad to hear it, Donald! Always a bit worried my experience is totally unique haha
Donald Rossi yep I can conform that too after 3 pairs I gave up and bought a pair of Indy’s.
mine are fine
Wonderful review and comparison. I have the Higgins mill in that same color.
Such a great boot! Hard to imagine lumberjacks wearing them (they're meant to be reminiscent of logging boots) but very nice for a night out.
Im considering buying the Indy boot 403, should I do so?
Buy them. I also contemplated buying them. Keeping Americans working was more than a reason.
You make the best shoe reviews! Great! Thanks for sharing
Thanks a bunch, Francis!
The more I look at these style of boots I soon figured out that the Red Wing iron rangers aren’t near as expensive as I thought they were.
Haha right! Yeah they're considered mid range, but not for the average joe I guess.
Halfdollar 86 try the Thursday captain. Especially if they are more dress than work
The Grant Stone seems a bit better quality compared to Allen Edmunds, comparable to Alden but you get much better welts and a significantly lower price. While I think Grant Stone should be a little cheaper, their value do justify the cost.
Yeah Grant Stone is legit, I'm hoping to review more of their stuff. Their Chromexcel loafers are so good
@@Stridewise Was actually a bit shocked when I heard you say some people think they should be cheaper. Maybe some of their standard line boots could be, but I honestly think they punch far above their price point. Recently picked up the Forest Kudu's and they punch WELL above their price point at $340. Made in China doesn't really matter when their craftsman and QA is on point (which it is after multiple pairs).
@@japesss I fully agree. Grant Stone has proven themselves on the global stage, I'm really glad they exist
You should review some Redback boots
Hi Nick, can I have your opinion on the Alden Indy 403 - what size to buy online? (we don't have an Alden shoe shop around)
I wear a Cole Haan "Hamilton Grand Penny" (men size, US 9 M) and for Doc Martens 1460 boot (men size, US 10). Many thanks!
Hey man I found they fit pretty true to size? Measure your foot on a brannock device and round down to the closest half size, that's what worked for me.
Stridewise Many thanks Nick!
Stridewise typically the Trubalance last is a 1/2 size down from your actual Brannock size.
I always love your boots.
Do you typically have a brand of pants your buy? I like all of the chinos you have
Those are actually all J Crew!
@@Stridewise Do you have a typical fit/style? Have a similar build. 770's or 740's stretch I'm thinking but looking for some suggestions.
@@mikechivy yeah mine are 770 stretch! surprisingly good on my thick thighs.
@@mikechivy in a few videos I'm also wearing rhone commuter pants, big fan of them too
What do you think of sub-$100 boots? I love my Higgins boots, but I consistently cycle back to my $60 plastic ankle boots for a day of soft, mushy comfort, and the style holds up with jeans and a polo.
You know there are a few sub $200 boots I like but I can't say I've got any below $100. Except my beloved Chuck Taylors, of course :)
Whatever you like you like man! Price is irrelevant when being yourself. :-) I have a pair of cheap Sonoma Boots and they are super comfortable and warm. Especially in winter!
The only thing that comes to mind for me would be my Clark's Desert boots I got for like $80 on Amazon.
The Indy can be ordered with a different sole.
Like the looks of the Grant Stone the most. Trust the build quality and comfort long term of the Alden, and the Allen Edmonds are a good choice all around if you don't like where the Grant Stones are made.
Good feedback! I need to review more Grant Stone.
After seeing Rose and Anvil take apart the Alden's, no way will I spend that much on those boots.
Seems like some comments were deleted?
I don't think so? I only delete aggressive comments.
Hello there! As always, great content! Quick question, do you wear the same size for the Higgins Mill and Grant Stone? Thanks!
Apologies, I just saw your sizing explanation in the video. Thank you!
@@anthonyrago62 Haha no sweat. Yeah I'm a bigger size in AE HM
Cheers :)
Thanks a ton for the compliment, Martin! So glad you're a fan. Stick around :)
Love Allen Edmonds shoes, but for boots, I've tried Allen Edmonds, and Alden, but I prefer Wolverine 1000 mile boots. I have to check out Grant Stone next!
Glad you found a boot you love! Is it the Chromexcel 1000 Mile?
So I think the best are Tyler’s from Frye!😉 only because those are the boots I own so really can’t compare! But for what it’s worth my shoe cobbler owns and wears the Alden and those are what I’m getting next. Nice review, first timer and i enjoyed the content.
Aldens for the win. Made in the USA with great materials and craftsmanship. Buy once cry once, and then there’s cordovan!
No redwings or Wolverines???
Right here! ruclips.net/video/kYvcLK864n8/видео.html
Thanks!!
I live just outside Port Washington WI, gonna head over there tomorrow for a pair of Higgins. I see they are on sale right now.
Looove those shoes. Good luck Steve!
Went out there, found out they are a "Seconds" store. They didn't have any in chromexcel but got a pair in brown for $211.00
Brown Higgins Mill should be chromexcel I think?
Three weeks in and these are the most uncomfortable boots I have owned. I think it was a defect from the factory, the little heel insole was making it feel like there was a lump under my arch. Unfortunately on a business trip it was so bad that I had to rip it out to make them comfortable enough to wear for the rest of the week. They are probably going to end up getting donated.
@@wiadv So sorry to hear! I'd get in touch with Allen Edmonds and let them know, you might be able to get a refund or store credit or something.
Please review White's MP Service Boot!!
Actually filming that one this weekend, Lewis :)
Looking forward to it!
Grant stone all around top to bottom a better solid built that AE , I have 3 pairs if AE and 2 pairs of grant stone , AE is better in the comfortable wear that's it , as for the alden , again it's a better built than AE also.
Great review. Stay away from Truman's trash.
good video
Glad you enjoyed
Dumb question but I noticed that some of the stitching on the outsole of the Allen Edmonds were worn out, can the outsole then become loose with only glue holding it together?
No, the stitching is designed to hold, even with the bottoms worn off. Many boots are made this way.
Honestly, the Grant Stone is not considered since it is made in China. I’d love to see a comparison between the Alden Indy 405, and the Redwing Beckman 9016.
Thanks Frank, yeah I really need to do more Red Wings!
You first said that you were an 11.5 in the Alden and A. Edmonds, then you said you wore an 11 in them…???
You know I got some 11s in Alden and they fit me fine. I'm between 11.5 and 12 on a Brannock so my sizing is iffy. Get the same size in all of em
@@Stridewise Cool, thanks!
Alden Indy! :D ftw
Hey, if it's good enough for Henry Jones Jr.
Haha the Indy is so cool 😎
I may have missed it but I don’t remember you mentioning if the boots are recraftable!? Possibly all 3 can and that is why you didn’t mention it. However, the reason I buy AE is because of this long term legacy aspect. Cost per wear
Ah, yes they all have Goodyear welts so they can all be resoled :)
Sewn in inner sole is not so good for aging feet. Removable inner sole is better for us old people to put in what we feel is best for our feet.
Cmon the Indy bc Dr. Jones rocks them
I’m sure Allen Edmond would have exchanged the boots with the flaws if requested
Yeah I agree.
Stridewise perhaps they were factory seconds
too expensive for the average joe, you can get the allen edmonds for $250
Aldens are the coolest because Indiana Jones
not $550 cool
Edmonds is ON SALE at this point in time.
yeah this brand is ALWAYS on sale, it's a big advantage
I got excited about the Grant Stone until I saw the price. For a Chinese made product the retail price should be at least 30% less. For basically the same price I'm going to go with the American made Allen Edmonds every time.
An excellent point.
everything else you own is made in China. including your phone which costs many hundreds.
Exactly.
My feet are flat. Any shoe with arch support kills me. Each person will gravitate to the company that best matches their foot type.
I own a pair of Higgans and Iron Rangers but a pair of Indy 405s is on the way in the mail. Forget Chinese made. Buy American.
Allen Edmonds is the best.
S-S-S-S-SPINNIN' TV
Allen Edmonds winner!
Personnellement j’adore mes alden indy :)
Moi aussi!
You can get them with a proper hansewn moc...
