If you consider everything: musicianship, technique, chemistry, fanbase, talent, vocals, songwriting and the feeling during you are listening to Band-Maid is just HAPPINESS!
I think that´s the best word to describe it and they are the best band i´ve ever seen, that´s my opinion, i´ve seen a lot of bands (Rocco del Schlacko, Rock am Ring, Wacken, Rock im Park) and i had a lot of great times on festivals, great memories, but nothing made my jaw drop like they do... You talk about the first stop and the lovely shot of Miku and Kanami. The idea behind the band was Miku’s with Kanami second, after it was Kaname’s pal Akane, and through Akane MISA. It was only after a while that Miku reflected that her voice might not be rock enough, so the advert went out and they landed Saiki. They are all mates now. You also must react to Miku’s solo MV - Peace and Love; the pigeon has the most endearing smile in Japanese rock

I am not sure how Band Maid became so addictive. There isn't a weak song in there 7 or 8 years they have been going. I am an old fogey and Band Maid just make me smile and want to go and see them live. I have seen their last two live on lines and bought DVDs and.....if any Band through the years just makes me happy to be around it is this band. Japanese rock and pop and metal have such a great number of quality bands. But Band Maid are the cream. Great to see others as enthusiastic about them as me.

You can tell - after the drum solo - that the transition came together better than they even planned.... Miku was laughing, Akane was laughing and Kanami just shreds it. They work hard but a great crowd reaction can lift a planned transition to something else. And, of course, the guy running lights was really in sync with the whole thing.

Whenever I read the title 'Freedom' or hear this song, I always have a familiar film scene in my head (don't ask, I don't know why). Some may know it: "They may take our lives but they'll never take our freedom". 🤷🏻‍♂️ :)
I am realistic enough to know that it won't be like that, but I wish that these ladies could/would continue to make music forever, because with it, they also give me in a way the feeling that the title describes. Freedom. I wish I could explain it better.

The word that comes to mind is "organic unity". The sum of their combined talent is so much more, and it keeps evolving! To make a point, I remember being at a concert of Ten Years After, in the seventies. Alvin Lee, the guitarist was considered one of the fastest and most talented player of the time. But his drummer and his bass player sounded no better than stand in's. They were extra's so he wouldn't be alone on the stage, it felt like. Played great songs, but I was put off seeing this. No chemistry at all.
Well, this is the other end of the rainbow. The seamlessness of the ladies playing and giving each other the spotlight is amazing. The effortless cohesiveness of Bandmaid are a miracle to me, no less. And in the same way the uniqueness of Babymetal baffles me. Thank you, Japan!

    • @Chief322
      @Chief322  3 года назад +3

Organic unity is a wonderful way to describe it! That's absolutely perfect.
Oh, OOF.. I can imagine that would be quite an off-putting experience, the chemistry of a live show is exactly why we go to them in the first place, is it not? That and to share a room with some of your idols but lacking the chemistry you may as well listen to it at home IMO. I suppose it makes you appreciate shows like this even more, as you say, it really is effortless for them to be this good, this entertaining and this commanding of the crowd, as well as remembering to have fun and just enjoy the experience together as friends. It's a beautiful sight to behold and really drives home the desire to go and see them live as soon as possible!
I'm WITH you there. Thank you INDEED, Japan!
Have a wonderful weekend, my friend! Thank you much for this :)

There is so much to talk about with this band and this song in particular. I was happy that you picked up some of the things that I do, but very few other reactors mention. The joy of playing together shows in all of the girls' faces as they interact. And you are right about the transition from the drum solo into the guitar work. It is such a wondrous bit of musical composition flawlessly performed. Another thing about BAND-MAID, is that on many of their songs, there is a part where the instruments pull back in effect giving Saiki her own solo as she sings. One thing that I'm not sure if you caught it because you were focused on Akane, you can see the silhouettes of Kanami and Miku down front clapping and cheering her on during the solo. By the way, the Small Pigeon now has her own signature guitar. Zemaitis recently released a very limited run of beautiful Miku Kobato "Flappy Pigeon" guitars. Trogly, a dude who buys and sells guitars through his reverb store, bought 4 of them and is selling them online for about $6000 which is actually a pretty good price when you consider that Zemaitis is asking about $5000 for them in Japan and you would have to pay for the shipping and duties if you import one yourself. They are beautiful with the metal face engraved with pigeons (1 large one and about 70 or so around the outer edge) and flower inlays of abalone. I don't know if they are worth that price because you can buy the ones she plays on stage for much less.

Great reaction. "Freedom" is one their earlier songs and they've been playing it well for years, but this rendition is next level. Misa's bass really carries the song in a subtly brilliant manner. Akane's drum solo is a show stealer. The transition to Kanami's guitar solo was sublime. Band Maid is one of those elite bands where their live versions consistently surpass the studio versions. Their music literally gets my heart pumping every time I listen, and I can't say that about any other group.

This is by far their favorite song to play. I think it's the only one that's been played at every concert they've done (since it was written). They have alot of fun with it, as you were noticing. Kanami (guitar) was trolling Miku (rhythm guitar) because apparently last time they played the song she messed up some section of it so Kanami was watching her super closely to make sure she didn't again, all jokes of course. Then you get Saiki (vocals) and MISA (bass) crowding around Akane to make faces at her. They do that quite a bit in their concerts, making funny faces at each other to see if they can screw each other up. You can see Akane do a gorilla face back at them, because they call her Gorilla in the band, both for how she wails on the drums and because of her love of bananas.
I already gave alot of suggestions for future songs. I won't further add to the pile that's already there. Just enjoy the ride!

I think possibly, the most beautiful part of Band-Maid's "Solos" in songs, is that they're very often never fully solo - all the girls work so damn well together, giving each other the spotlight when appropriate, and then hanging back to support the next in turn. Its never a power play for attention, it's more of a beautiful highlight.

Jimmy Page was right mate - she is one of the world's best! But then they are all hugely talented and very comfortable together. Kinemi as composer and lead guitar is content to give everyone a share of the limelight - there are no egos on stage. Kinemi by the way says Misa has the most perfect sense of rythm and she does not use a click track.

    • @Chief322

Yes! The lack of ego really is something that leapt out at me straight away AND made me love them SO much immediately. It's the same in the interviews I've seen too, they're quick to compliment each other, they have hilarious banter and just don't take themselves too seriously. It's honestly such an appealing quality.. as you obviously know lol!
Honestly bro.. the more I watch Misa, the more I adore her, her raw talent (not to detract from her hard work) is absolutely off the scale, she comes across so humble and quiet but absolutely confident in herself, her ability and who she is as a person. It's inspirational tbh.

This video was my introduction to BAND-MAID and I’ve listened to their music nearly every day since. I’m glad you mentioned MISA here since her base line is basically carrying this song along while the others get their chance to shine. Akane doesn’t solo very often but when she does, look out. They always have so much fun on stage. Here’s a fan cam video where everyone takes a turn on the drums - Kanami of course steals the show:

Wow! What an introduction! If you hadn't carried on listening from this starting point, I'd have possibly had to question your well-being lol!! Yeah, I'm finding myself more and more amazed by Misa the more I watch. It's amazing to me to see her being so reserved and humble off the stage but shine so bright and be such a force on stage.
Loved that video btw, bro! Thank you, that was awesome haha!

B-M does the best music I've heard in my life, rock or not. It's just full of flavor, always surprising and interesting to the ear. I've never felt a thing was my thing as much as their sound.
One of the reasons I say they are the best band on Earth is because you can pick less than ten songs from other bands and that's it, but with Band-Maid you can literally make daily reactions for 1/3 of a year and don't get bored. Individually there might be better or more skilled musicians but as a whole pack they're the best, of course imo.
Now after my love letter, here are some bands and songs you might've not reacted yet: Yousei Teikoku - ~Hametuno Tategoto, Unlucky Morpheus - Black Pentagram, Uroboros - Black Swallowtail.
If you're up for a funky change Bradio - Back To The Funk/Golden Liar is a must

Thank you for this video. Now you've finally seen the way these girls feed off the energy of the crowd. They all smile and have fun. Most bands have fake smiles but you can see the pure love and enjoyment they have playing. Also, no matter how much I love this song, listen on CD is a disappointment not having the drum solo. It flows with the song and when everyone joins back in is flawless. I don't know if you've noticed yet, but MISA plays barefoot. There are times I've seen pictures with her wearing shoes and it's like seeing a unicorn...magical. 😁 If you were to do a reaction to every song, one a day, you'd have enough content for 3 months. That doesn't even include the live versions. You've done 7 reactions to these lovely ladies so far. You haven't even heard the best stuff yet. There's Real Existence, Daydreaming, YOLO, Don't you tell ME (the MV is really cute and shows their personalities, it was also the 2nd video I saw and that's when I fell in love with them), Alone, Blooming, Rock in me (Miku sings this happy little song and you get a feeling of how the band would have sounded if she remained the lead singer), Bubble, Domination (both MV and live, although the MV has terrible sound quality) and another favorite of mine Choose Me. I could go on, but anything you listen to or watch is never a bad choice. Thanks for the shout out...no longer a virgin in that area 👍🤘. Keep rocking and stay safe. It's nice, here in the US we are finally able to go out without having to mask up. Life is finally getting back to the before times. Looking forward to the next video. Have a great day, week and month.

Personally for me 'Manners' is where Akane really shines. She doesn't do any solos on that song but her drums are just so clean, tasteful, simple yet complex at the same time ... The drums are always a major part of 'the backbone' of rock songs, but I've never heard a song where the drums were so much the rhythm backbone and also almost a lead instrument ... Akane is the 'Stephane Grappelli' of drums!!!

You mentioned the bass line - Band Maid dropped a new Live video a few days ago (I'm certain the Band Maid army has already alerted you). It's their Live performance of No God (ruclips.net/video/nAdWnIRjGak/видео.html). Misa goes between picking and slapping flawlessly - you can see that when she goes to slap, she grabs her pick with her index finger (kind of wedges it between the tip of her finger and the base of her finger (for the anatomically inclined, it's between the distal phalanx and the proximal phalanx), and plucks with her middle and ring fingers. I'm not quite sure how she goes back to picking and transfers the pick back to between her index finger and thumb without dropping her pick on the stage....but good drums and great bass. Stay well and stay safe.

I am late to this party and a new subscriber. Being a musician yourself, you probably noticed many little nuances. If you listen closely after the solo after Akane's solo it is the bass that first brings in the riff coming out of the drum solo section and into the guitar solo. For me Band Maid has brought fun back into heavy music. Watching Akane smiling and laughing after the solo brings tears to my eyes. I don't know why. During the drum solo watching Kanami and Miku cheering for her, clapping their hands and pumping their fists, again, just warms my heart. It is so refreshing to see a band when the members actually look like they genuinely like and care about each other. This is outside of the obvious musicianship. What I always tell people who have never heard them is Band Maid is not a style or genre, Band Maid is a sound. I am not going to lie. They are not hard to look at either. They are also a breath of fresh air from ugly guys dressed in black who scowl and play as fast as they can and play every riff that they know in less than a minute. Great fantastic reaction. Cheers.

Well said. Well said. Your sentiments reflect every Band-Maid fan. And yeah MISA'S bass is a little low in the mix compared to other videos that are no longer available. But if you're really paying close attention, she's all over the place the whole song. Synced to Akane and the melody most of the time.

Hey Chief--welcome welcome "po", I see that you're continuing on getting more exposure to the radiance of Band Maid! I love it when Saiki yells at the crowd during the intros hyping them up, then launching into her vocals. This is one of those Kanami odes to a balls out classic rock intro and you're so right-what a groove! Along with the contagious, happy vibe that Mr. Port and Mr. Holloway wrote about so well earlier, it just makes it a pleasure to see this again! Miku and Saiki's vocals are just so tight, pretty and dynamic. Akane-OMG is indeed a QUEEN, smiling as she is just destroying us with her intensity...it's sheer alchemy on display Chief! I can't write about the overall encompassing realm of the band any better than Mr. Page-so what he said!
As Jiggle wrote, if you want to hear one of the most captivating ballads ever I suggest Daydreaming...but will also say "Play" Live is a good call as well. (Misa Misa and Akane will say hi) I also recommend watching the "Blooming" official vid---a complete tour de force song soon! Such a songwriting masterpiece, of course one of many. Kanami's solos are so melodic, soaring and breathtaking. Then so is the one in Daydreaming! Enjoy mate!

I've seen some great drummers play live - Keith Moon, John Bonham, Ginger Baker - but none of them looked as happy as Akane does in this great performance. All the videos from this 2020 concert are amazing and give different members of the band a chance to strut their stuff. Of the other four that are available - PLAY: ruclips.net/video/3LxX_t4vg7U/видео.html , CHOOSE ME: ruclips.net/video/HcqitbXgigU/видео.html , DOMINATION: ruclips.net/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/видео.html and WONDERLAND: ruclips.net/video/x4hxLeHbqZo/видео.html , I love Wonderland for the way Saiki gets to show off her vocal power, though Domination is where they all get to show off! You're going to need about 20 pauses to react to Domination - which none of us mind as we've all seen the video, so no need to keep apologising. Hell, at least you rewind every time, which makes a big difference as the run-up is an essential part of the explosion that follows! If you have a 6 year old running around, I'd recommend showing them Gimme Chocolate or Doki Doki Morning by Babymetal. They're both cuteAF and a great introduction to Metal at that age - kinda like a My Little Mosh Pit!

I liked to see you enjoy BAND-MAID, I discovered them five months ago and they still blow my mind when I listen to them (especially MISA hehehe) because the bass / drums duo seems to me the closest thing to a steamroller, but since you are a drummer, I think you will also like "The Warning", three Mexican sisters who started about 6 or 7 years ago and are about to release their 3rd album, the remarkable thing is that currently the guitarist and lead singer is 21 years old, the drummer is 19 and also the singer in several songs and the bass player is 16, you can see how old they were when they started.
Ah! all the songs on their albums have been written by themselves and Paulina, the drummer, is a spectacle, but the three of them are pure passion when they play ;)
I leave you the link of the first thing I saw of them, it's the end of their 2nd TEDx talk at the University of Nevada in January 2017, they were 17, 14 and 12 years old, performing the song "Survive", written by them, from the album they would release that same year (the 1st) and you don't expect to see some "girls" playing rock hehehehe.
    ruclips.net/video/E62SVvLw9FI/видео.html
And also from the video they released a week ago as a preview of their third album.
    ruclips.net/video/TlOy0XbFVlM/видео.html
As I know they are blocking this one from UMG :( I leave you the one of the performance they did from "The Cave", the studio they have in the basement of their house in Monterrey just the same day the video was released, without any attachments, the three of them with their instruments and without any production, what it sounds like is what they play ;)
