Scotty, what else should I do for a manual Toyota Matrix with 170k kms (105k miles) that has NO maintenance history??
Carfax only shows 7 pervious owners and nothing else! Guy I bought it from only had for 5000km.
I got an oil change, new front bearings/brakes, checked all the fluids and swapped/cleaned all the filters.

@@don2deliver These are all figures using the cruise control during my frequent trips across the highways, 80 to 76 to 70, then south to 44, and then to 40, it's about 2600 miles. 70 mph is the 'sweet spot' with this truck. 75 and the mileage drops to 17. but weridly, 80 and it only goes to 16. I wasn't able to do anything slower than 70 over the road, because the big trucks kept passing me and scaring the crap out of me when I tried to only maintain 65 on the interstates beyond Pa. Like many things, it took a while to sort out the problems with Ford's modular engine, and yes, there have been lots of people who've had problems; but considering the tens of millions of those engines out there, it seems like there are also plenty that continue to run just fine with only regular maintenance. I have to wonder how many problems were due to using cheap oil filters which fit, but didn't have the backflow prevention thingy in them, which allowed the oil to drain back into the pan, which wound up causing a dry start up condition all the time.

It's 22.5 Year's Old, I Just Drove Back And Forth From Northern California To Los Angeles And Had A Tank Average Of 30.3MPG With An Average Driving Speed Of 70MPH. I Also Used A $1.00 Octane Booster That I Purchase Regularly From The Dollar Tree.
I Just Keep The Oil Changed Regularly (20K High Mileage Mobile One With The Accompanying Filter) And Other Fluids, Tire Rotations, Etc And It Just Keeps On Running.
    I Changed The Starter In 2019 ($500.00), Radiator 2021 ($290.00), 4 Kenda 60K Steel Belted Radial Tires 2020 ($241.00/Ebay + $80.00 Installation) (I've Had A Total Of 3 Tire Changes Totaling Approx. $1,200.00), Carbon Fiber/Ceramic Brake Pads 2012 Still Going Strong ($180.00), I Had A Tune Up In 2008 ($200.00) And In 2018 ($250.00) Same Mechanic.

My Insurance Per Year Is $566.00 For Liability & Uninsured Through Progressives Drive Insurance.
Get One, Slowly Change What Needs To Be Changed And You'll Be Amazed How Well These Cars Drive And How Reliable They Are! ✌️

Since the tires were almost new I took the deal. Turns out the horrendous sound was the fan clutch bearing bracket $150 part at Auto store. Changed it out. Purred like a kitten. My favorite car, perhaps the nicest condition wise, car I ever owned was a 1992 Lexus SC300, with the rare 5 speed manual option. Bought it in 2012 with 60,000 miles on it, it was owned by one old man who bought it new in 1992, stored it in the winter. Pearl white on the light tan leather, IMO the best color combo, it was immaculate, seats showed no wear, headlights looked like new, paint/body, it was just an immaculate looking car. Drove the wheels off that car and sold it in 2018, with 100k miles on it. It still looked immaculate, leather was still nice, all the electronic crap/gauges still worked like new. Single thing that impressed me most about that car was the build quality, it didn't squeak/rattle, paint still looked like new going on 25 years, drove tight as a drum. If I had the disposable $$$$ now days I'd buy a JDM 1JZ-GTE 5 speed Toyota Soarer, in the same pearl white/tan interior just to get that same sort of nostalgia that I had with my old SC300

I think if time without miles killed timing belts, we'd have heard stories about that from "barn find" videos and so forth.
