Smokey’s singing of our National Anthem is the most beautiful I’ve ever heard. I thought it in ‘86 and still today.
runner up's Whitney and the Dixie Chicks ? (Dixie Chicks cuz I love harmony, lol)
Whitney sang this so good. But the crown goes to smokey. He is my new number one!
I’m 60years old and have always been a Mets fan, I have thought about Smokey singing this many times over the years thank you for this it’s wonderful
Almost 40 years later and it's still the greatest
Remember watching this live on TV. All these years later, it still just blows me away. The reaction from the crowd as the realization of what is happening ripples through the people gives me chills.
Props to whoever it was at MLB back in the day having the courage to approve this brilliant version, and mad love and respect to Smokey for the the finest rendition ever.
33 years later and I still get teary eyed every time.
when I heard him sing that year gave me goose bumps still does he sang it with heart and pride a true respect for the song that's how it's done what a true american singing our national anthem.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS POSTING A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO..SMOKEY'S VERSION
TO HONOR AMERICA HAS BEEN MY FAVORITE PERFORMANCE BY ANYONE SINCE 1986!
I AM NOW A RETIRED POLICE OFFICER & ALSO SERVED IN THE NAM 20 YEARS BEFORE
THIS GREAT WORLD SERIES WHEN THE WORLD WITNESSED THE MIRACLE MET'S #2 lol!
Me too....a moment I will never forget.....brings me to tears everytime......
We were watching this in real time, and I've never forgotten what a beautiful rendition it was. So glad I finally found the video.
Still the best version ever sung, by any person!
Absolutely the best!!!!
The Very Best! Also, the close up of Calvin Scharaldi not knowing what lies ahead for him in Games 6 & 7.
Fergie, this is how it's done
As everyone else here says: Best performance of the national anthem ever. Thank you to MLB for posting this and to Smokey for permitting it. I wanted to buy a recording of this at the time and have periodically looked for it ever since.
His voice omigosh. The arrangements are perfect for him, but kind of slow-okay, wait, I’m typing as I am watching-he managed to slide in America the Beautiful in there?-I’m on the floor. That was amazing.
Probably the most underrated version of the National Anthem ever.
The GOAT !! I love Smokey 🤦♂️
This and Marvin's NBA All Star performance eclipse all other live versions.
to me this is the best its ever been done
Greatest ever... period
Boston fans, never missing a thing, give Smokey an immediate ovation upon hearing him shift to America the Beautiful. God this is great, Ted F-cking Williams and everything. The ovation afterwards went on and on, too, well beyond the end of this video.
Whitney Huston and Smokey killed it
Nobody come close to whitney the 2nd is faith hill
the best one ever period, no other bloodclaat singer can top this.
I was 15 and this was the first time the star spangled banner made me cry
Still one of the greatest renditions ever. Makes the goose bumps pop!
I was driving through Arizona with my best friend, on our way to Oregon and this came on. Even on a crappy am car radio it was a great rendition. This is just beautiful
Like nobody can! ❤️
I found this through ray romano.he said in a interview that this was his favourite rendition.
The best national anthem EVER sung at ANY sporting event. Period.
Ditto...
Best.
Rendition.
Ever.
I was 21 and sat in section 24 that night at Fenway. I still have the ticket stub too. I remember thinking right at the beginning, “wow this is something special” and it just kept getting better.
That was the most beautiful national anthem should I ever heard it was so beautiful and I am sure did I saw that performance because my father always watched baseball games and I am sure he was watching that game he never missed a baseball game ❤.
And again that was beautiful I love the way you performed 😢.
I like Smokey, but it's Whitney!
Beautiful...God bless him
Wow
Soooooo... we're just not gonna talk about Smokey just switching songs at the end huh? Ah well...it is Smokey....he csn do that.lol
It is still the best signing of the anthem ever. I Wish all would take his "ask" for brotherhood today
Smokey's first, Jose's second, Whitney's third.
The most beautiful rendition ever....and I've seen perhaps a thousand of them!
Smokey tops Whitney.
Beautiful! 🎼 🎤 He is the same age as my mother. Born 1940.
Damn I got goose bumps. Thank you Smokey!!!
I was there. And I will never get enough of it.
That's Sherm Feller with the introduction.
It's just pure genius.
no others need bother
