Prior to this, the only thing I knew about Tool was that there is a member named Maynard because that was my dad's middle name. Haha. Now I have another song to add to my addiction recovery repetoire. You guys are always getting me to expand my horizons!

I remember that because I posted a couple more Tool videos, Schism and Laterals!
Found your channel a while back and forgot to click subscribe. Came back again today, haven't watched the video at the time of typing this, but I recall you always saying "trying to destroy the stigma of mental health" or something along those lines. In this aspect, there's a few songs that I believe you should listen to, that directly talk about dealing with mental health issues and the struggle of trying to cut away everything in your life that brought you to the point of suicide, and trying to turn away from coping with depression via drugs. I've listened to this specific artists songs and as someone who has been struggling with mental health issues outside of the addiction portion, they really hit the feels and I would like your take on them. Rivilin is the artist name if I can remember correctly. Doubt you'll read this but worth trying to reach out anyways.
Thank you for sharing this and on a sidenote-where did you get those headphones I ask cause i really like them i think they are so cool and epic @MentalAmanda
I would suggest doing a reaction to the live Pro Shot version of the song as well from 1993. Maynard does more than just sing these lyrics, he experiences them as he performs, and it is worth seeing. May be a good way to freshen up an older upload that keeps getting blocked on you as well!
It's the best version in my opinion
I second that! Do the live version, it is truly powerful.
I like the video too but it's a deep cut. It sounds like it was recorded in a trash can because it's in mono.
Pro shot was a video software from the 90's by the way. The audio is redubbed from an old VHS tape.
It's fine. Nostalgia for nostalgia but it's not a great listen on headphones.
A much better song about addiction and recovery that MGK wrote the lyrics to is Gravity by APC.
Maynard goat 🐐 Keenan still doing it till this day while his contemporaries in the 90s died from drugs or washed away like sand on the beach. Been a fan for 30 yrs this man has saved my life more than once
Such a good song. It makes me wonder about societal addictions. Tool is so so masterful with their lyrics and music. Thank you for reposting this! Much love
11 years sober last week. It’s doable, folks. Best of luck to all who are in the midst of addiction and/or recovery
You know, I've listened to this song so many times but never took the time to really listened to the lyrics. Thank you so much for sharing your viewpoint on this song. ❤you Amanda and will continue to listen to you and the community. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
When this came out, we called him REVEREND MAYNARD 😊
Highly agree with Tattoodude8946. The live from Reading 93 is phenomenal. Seeing his performance adds so much to it. The YT title of that video is either Tool Sober Live at Reading Festival 1993 PRO-SHOT!!! or Tool - Sober Live (Pro Shot) Remastered. I believe they are the same video, but the second has slightly upgraded sound to be more surround rather than strictly front centered. Regardless, either would be a good refresher if it's been 2 years since you first tried to release this. Tool is generally good about letting people react to the videos from their YT channel. Most of their videos are just the audio with the album cover. This is one of their few songs that actually has an official video which may be why you have had trouble w/the copyright. Loads of their music is thoughtful and topical for this channel. I know you have reacted to a few of their other songs, but I hope you consider reacting to more as well.
This song is about a friend of the band who was a writer who thought he couldn’t write unless he was intoxicated. Couldn’t get sentence down without it
Good catch on the double negative many miss that
Gotta react to the live version
Great insight and feedback. Thank you. 25 months sober here. ❤❤❤
Watching g this as I’m on my second bottle of wine ❤
How are you feeling about your drinking? I suspect if you are listening to this song and leaving a comment, you might be looking for support. If that's the case, I'd be happy to help you find that support. If not, I'm here to listen. You can reply here or email me (in video description)/send me an IG message (@mentalamanda).
Finally! Tool is the bestest!! =)
this is an awesome song. first song i ever heard from them in 1994 on beavis & butthead show when they played music vids in the show.
#1, You nailed it 1000000000000000000000%💓
#2, watch the live version, Maynard 'lives' the lyrics and its insanely captivating.🤘
nice video up-load Amanda....great song as well.....
I'd love to see your reaction to ALICE IN CHAINS ⛓️, LOVE, HATE, LOVE Live at the MOORE THEATER
Or Man In A Box
Many artists believe their addiction fuels their creativity. Mitch Hedberg for one.
The Fairy Voice Mother managed to use the live video. Maybe check with her to see what it took for her to deal with copyright? Just a thought.
Always interesting to get your perspective and personal insight.
As far as dark, brooding and troubled rock songs go, this is a heavy classic. At the time of its release, the lighter fare of the ‘80s had fully given way to the much more serious material that followed. And tracks like this, with such deep lyrics and themes, became the norm. I understand how some might find music and songs like this too depressing. But I feel such topics need to be addressed at some point. And as far as that goes, this song is said to be about a friend of the band with a substance abuse and addiction struggle. I haven’t had close friends who were addicts in that way, but I’m seeing more and more of that where I live, and have heard people’s stories in group settings.
Weird note, that red ribcage thing is an actual 3D model that Adam Jones made
Ah ahh I've noticed you're all pretty in pink today and you whiched to the other side haha and the song from TOOL was good I'll check out more of this band Ryan Barron
you should listen to pink - sober. grreat song
All this us true... I live in this world... it's a tough life.. I get soooo tired of losing to it..

This Sunday May 5
It's every other Sunday (last one was yesterday the 5th). If you subscribe and turn on notifications, you will get an alert when I go live :)
You might find the Tool songs Parabol/Parabola interesting. And Reflection is heavy, but it's 13 minutes and change, so maybe not youtube friendly.
I was personally dependent on opioids for 13 years. When I quit, the withdrawal was brutal. 2-1/2 months of acute withdrawal followed by a year of extended withdrawal symptoms. If that doesn't make you want to kill yourself, I don't know what would.
Withdrawal is no joke! I'm so happy that you made it through and proud of you for fighting that beast!
To me it's the addition that's telling the story as well as the addicted. I want what I want the addition is going to get what it wants. Satin. Trust in Jesus to truly be free.
Great reaction.
Love that perspective of the addiction being the narrator!
If you like deep meaningful lyrics, dealing with a lot of introspection and views on society - may I recommend another Tool song. (Audio with lyrics for Tool may be a good choice to view). Oh, yes, most Tool songs address a variety of issues. You MAY want to ask what song to do (some of Tool’s songs are broken into 2 or 3 tracks that NEED to be enjoyed back to back to hear the full spectrum of that musical “piece”) - or you can say Tool song about (self-doubt, difficult changes, working through past pain, death of someone close, etc.)
Either way - nice reaction.
I started vaping at 13 and im still not clean. I also started smoking weed at 14.then n20 at 16. did cocaine at 17. I also started drinking heavy at 18 and im still not sober from vaping I only have alcohol at partys and n20 aswell as coca from time to time I do hope I can become sober some day I just need too focus on working out more and being in the gym too keep my mind off substances
I'm proud of you for your progress and it's proof that you can go into recovery for these other things too! Don't be afraid to get help if you're struggling to quit something!
A secret about this song If you turn the volume way up the last time you hear him say. Why can't we not be sober in the background noise You can hear a guy telling you to turn this s*** down.
And All Fuc*ed Up Amity Affliction please! Would mean a lot to me if you did as that song helped me through my darkest times!
Investing in 2a is a good way to solve a stalker , just a tip.
8:08 - common reaction to Tool videos😁
Loti Eidola please!!
I'm Addict in recovery, how do you get "Recovered"? I have 24 years clean?
I know that individuals use different language to describe their journey. Many like to say "in recovery" regardless of the time passed. I choose to say recovered because, in my personal experience, if I say "in recovery", it leaves room for my brain to say that it's still an option on the table. Some people don't like the terms "clean" and "dirty" in the recovery world, but part of my struggle was the glamourization of using. Thus for myself, I say "dirty" and "clean", but I respect others on the journey and will use the terms they prefer. For me, I started considering myself recovered when the cravings were no longer regularly having a notable impact on my life. When I knew I wasn't going to go seek it out. When I could get through terribly painful and stressful situations without using. But again, that's just my preference in terms.
@@MentalAmanda Thank you for you response. I cautioned you because, there is no cure for the disease of addiction. However it can be arrested. I warn you because ...I cant tell you how many people I know or knew with well over 20 yrs clean, who relapsed. Remember this disease is cunning and baffling. God Bless and keep doing what you need to do.
I usually say I am an addict, I just don't use anymore. IMO that's the most honest. Cause I know for a fact if I tried again, just once, I'd be right back to where I left off. Congratz on the 24 years, that's one hell of a thing to be proud of.
@@marczeitlin4165 I relapsed twice before I made a major lifestyle change. I've been clean and sober almost 22 years

This is Maynard's live 93' version of Sober. Completely different experience than listening to just this song w/o the visuals. Many others have reacted to this live...you can not go wrong even if you just check it out and don't post a reaction 😊
What are you doing a research paper? Just listen to the music and enjoy it.
This channel exists to use music to spark conversation about mental health. If that doesn't resonate with you, I hope you find creators you enjoy 😊
Oh... you're watching the actual video. That is much more disturbing than the lyrics! Band member Adam is the twisted genius mind behind most of their videos, btw. :)
Too bad this was the censored version
To me the video is a halfway house..
