How's it!! Hope you've been enjoying fishing lately. Watching a video from off the kona coast, I noticed how beautiful the weather was, looking in towards the island and how crisp and clear the atmosphere was!!!! Often typical for kona, especially in the mornings. The detail you can make out looking all the way up to.the 14,000 ft peaks of maunaloa and maunakea is just incredible!!!! Just wanted to mention that over the decades I lived in kona and was fishing, this included the 1982/83 eruptions of maunaloa and shortly after, kilauea and then the new Pu'u O'o vent and cinder cone and spectacular 1000 ft plus high lava fountains, which turned into a 20 year long plus erruption phase of pretty much continuous lava flowing!!!! With the normal trade winds weather, all of the volcanic haze ends up in kona including out off the ocean, and so for pretty much 20+ years we had "vog" or haze constantly! The views that are normally stunning as you can see so far off in the distance with clear weather, common to kona, we're thi k with vog, so bad, that you couldn't even see the island from sea only 5 miles or much less offshore!!! I know what it's normally like and how amazing the clarity is, but for all those years, kona was just inundated with vog!!!! Your stoked that it's not like that anymore, but whenever the volcano errupts, the vog ends up in kona w/in a day or two!!! But, the eruptions over the last 20 years have not been long lived so you enjoy beautiful weather most all the time. Those 20 years from 83, I was always really stoked to get far away from kona in the strong trade winds and breathe fresh air and see so far again!!!! Just brought me back to so many years throughout my life fishing off the big island seeing so much changes with the eruptions and of the landscape especially in Puna!!! Sounds like the magma is moving a lot under ground over the last days, indicating a potential eruption event coming again soon!! The island is alive!!!! Enjoy it!!! Thx again and tight lines and good fishing !!! Aloha D.L.
Thanks for sharing ! Yeah the last couple years we have had crazy clear sky’s it’s really nice when that vog lightens up. I guess the vog also keeps it from getting to crowded here too so I guess kinda a catch 22. Enjoyed reading your comment thanks for posting that
Pono Chris! Mahalo for the Pro tips. Hope to fish with you in Kona when i get out there. If you make it to Florida hit me up, it would be an honor. Aloha
Mahalos for the tip. I sometimes offset my through-hole on my lures(keel weighted) so that they favor port or starboard side when running. Your way is slick though since you can make any lure you want turn either way on the spot. Again, major info, so i gave you one back. 🤙
Thanks, Hopefully it was helpful. Really At the end of the day it is probably debatable if it makes a huge huge difference getting them in the clean water. I have friends who get railed and their boats have so much wash you cant see anything, so the fish definitely can see them in the whitewater however I just feel more confident when the lures are running out in that clean water and I dont think it hurts and possibly it may help them feed a little bit better being able to see a clear exit on the bite. just my 2 cents and it has worked for me. try it out and tight lines

sorry for the later reply I havent been checking comments but Im gonna start getting on that. The mirror I found on amazon i thnk its for waterskiing
Why don't you use longer riggers to get them out wide in cleaner water?
Where in Mexico? Peurto escondido?
That was interesting stuff, appreciate you sharing

What kind of line is better to steer lures?? Flouro??? Or mono???
