Here is a video on how to prevent paint from bleeding when painting your 3D prints.
This is a fun video, painting an Iron Man mask in the Darth Maul paint scheme.
The technique is covered in the first 7:40. But you should stick around and see the final product.

Most importantly Have Fun
Love your videos. Pretty much EVERYTHING in the prop/modeling universe benefits from auto finishing products and techniques. Best TOS Captains Chair I've ever seen was finished at an auto body shop. Tough and durable finishes guaranteed. And with 3D prints, well, any visible layer lines, IMO, equals total failure no matter the rest of the work.
Currently building an ABS printed Robby the Robot and your finishing videos will insure he will look better than he ever did on screen!
awesome, I'm so happy I could help
Same way as how I do my Nihilus stuff, highly recommend. Top tier content and videos right here!
Thank you for the support, its much appreciated.
This looks awesome! now i want a Darth Maul iron man mask.
Thanks for the video keep up the good work
Dope video and wicked darth maul paint job!
When I originally got in to car audio installation in the mid 90's, there were a series of tapes (yep...VCR. be kind & rewind lol!) that were basically instruction classes. The first of their kinds.
Your videos remind me of those sir. Which is a really good thing!
They are perfect and pertain to 3D finishing in general....not just helmets and masks.
Thank you!
thank you, this is such a satisfying hobby, I love doing it, and hopefully I can help out a community that has helped me out so many times over the years.
as a newbie to this I am beyond glad I found your page today. I just printed my first wearable piece and definitely needed all the tips from your videos. Well done sir!
I learned something I will actually use THANKS!
Thanks for the video!
Great video!
Great tutorial! Easily earned my subscription.
Incredible results mate!
Appreciate it.
Great video. Linking the products used to your description would be awesome. And if you had affiliate links I would of purchased all these tapes right now. Keep it up.
@@mrluisr I'm travailing currently, As soon as I get home I will get them posted in the next 2 days. please check back.
I've always learned to make the first layer the same as the base color, as it is that very layer of paint that will seep through. Alternativelty, a clear layer of paint.. Love your stuff, very instructional and clear. Just a little hard to find some of the products you use in Sweden ;)
You don't need to use the exact products I use. From my experience most body shop products are pretty close in performance. Most 2K high build primer should work just fine. also, 2K clear, I use the Akzo Noble because that what I have always used. There are better clears, but price really comes in to play. There are some less expensive products available also.
Please keep making more 3d helmet videos!
Iron Maul💚💙💜🖤
That looks amazing! What are you spraying on at the end?
Akzo Nobel Wanda Clear Coat, Ill add it to the description
@@TheLastLayer111 Thank you - subscribed :)
Hey just asking on your iron man suit what red and gold paint you used? I do automotive and acrylic art work ? Good job on mask !
Thank You, I used Duplicolor Inferno red and for the gold I think I just used the Duplicolor GM Gold. I can double check tomorrow.
Thanks for the reply back , i was gona try more of a automotive paint than an aerosol can ,for my iron man helmet .
Oh before i forget. Black basecoat????
Both 3M and Custom Shop have tapes in both sizes. Is there a reason that you chose one brand over the other for the particular sizes, or was it just which product you became familiar with first?
Both work real good. I first used The 3M and I really like it. Sometimes its hard to get (sold out).
@@TheLastLayer111 Thanks! I have been unhappy with the 1/8" tape I have been getting an Tamiya's stuff is too expensive.
What gloss varnish do you use in your spray gun?
Akzo Nobel Wanda clear, ill add the link to the description
13:33 So you peel the tape when the paint is dry to the touch?
yes, the timing isn't critical, but if you wait too long, like a couple days or something, sometimes the paint dries so hard, that it wont release from the edges cleanly.
How do avoid the paint pulling off the paint underneath when removing the masking tape
I always try to use and easy release masking tape, such as delicate surface Frog tape. Also, I don't sand the primer with anything finer than 400 grit sandpaper. This will give the paint something to "grip" to.
@@TheLastLayer111 thanks for your reply very appreciated, I my filler to around 420, and I’m using yellow and green frog tape I give the paint over night to cure but still happens and any tape on the chrome just leaves marks
Chrome is tough to tape over. I rarely use the chrome/gold plating type paints because they are hard to tape over and you cannot clear over them. They have a tendency to flatten out with clear
What i wanna know is why the paint gets marked by the tape when you peel it off?
if you are referring to some of the small marks where the black meets the red, that's not from the tape, its from cutting with the razor, I wasn't being overly cautious. If you wanted to completely eliminate that you could put an intercoat of clear on before the black, but that's a whole other video.
As you can see at the end, if you dab some color on the scratches before you paint, you will never notice them.
impressive! He just revealed how they created the Black Panther mask.
