SUCH A BEAST! Sony have constantly been making statements with their XPERIA range. I remember when the first version came out and it was touted as benig a monitor for Alpha cameras....Couldn't believe it when I first saw it on Unbox Therapy. Definitely looking forward to more videos showcasing this phone from you James.
The 1iv for me. But if you really need that battery swap capability, the original Xperia Pro allows you to live stream via hdmi leaving the usb-c port available to attach a power bank
I always really enjoy your videos. Just one question. Where did you get the cable on your review?( around 2:00〜) It seems official cable by Sony But I couldn’t find it on the web.
1 hr is def too little for most professional shoots but I think it’s still useful to have as a backup. I view the Xperia lineup as a good supplement to the alpha experience.
The thing is though, the phone hardware is what enables those features. A barebones external monitor doesn't have 5G, it doesn't have the processing power to package video data for streaming. It makes more sense to use the phone especially if you already have one.
The Monitor+ app (iOS and Android) for around 20€ works great. Especially with a USB C to USB C cable on Android because you avoid all that messing around with wifi and Bluetooth.
Could you negate the problem with charging and using it as an external monitor at the same time with a splitter cable? So you can plug a charger in and the cable to be an external monitor?
You can use the Monitor+ app with USB cable and it is much more loaded with video monitor extras than this Sony app that is available only in those crazy expensive phones.
James is there a difference in versions of the external monitor app on the xperia pro and xperia 1iv or is the app recognising the hardware? You can charge the phone by using a USB C to USB Adapter with Type C Charging, 2 in 1 Type C 3.0 OTG Splitter Also you can use any hdmi to usb capture device for cameras without the uvc output My biggest issue is when you go above 720p output on the A7iv the phone switches to its internal mic rather then usb input ie the cameras mic.
How about wireless charging while using as a monitor. Sorry I dont know how that would work? If you have an old sony camera you could use this phone as a video cam pretending to be a monitor.
Hey James, great video, as always. I still use an A9ii (and an A7R4 for stills) but have just got my grubbies on a Xperia 5V. I’m not having any luck hooking it up as a monitor. Using a USB C. Any tips?
I've had the Pro i for a few months. it is outstanding. But it tends to be very real. lots of photos outside in the sun and there is an overheat warning. I can live with it, but this point could get even better.
It sucks as an "external monitor. I had to go into usb streaming mode which limits my fps options. and it basically just screen records. It doesnt control my camera at all. Ill stick to my atamos and choose my resolution and frame rates independent of what available for usb streaming.
heyyy nice video, but i am wondering what is the usb-c cable you used at 2:14 because i can't find any good quality cable that isn't straight (i'm looking for bent cables)
I have the A7C and Xperia V IV. I still can't get it to work. Literally bought the phone for this. I got the Sony monitor app on but when I connect it to the camera it says it's not connected. I bought a USB-C cable that specifically said it transfers video.
I have xperia 1 iv and zv e10. I can connect the camera and mobile phone using usb c cable and external monitor app. Xperia 1iv can act like an external monitor. But when I press the record button on the zve10 it said invalid during USB streaming. Actually the app is in the monitor mode. None of those who talked about this feature did not show how to shoot video with external monitor app. So I do not know what I am doing wrong.
I watch over and over this channel regarding about Xperia 1iv, some reviewers holding me back to get one bcz of overheating issue. And ask for today im still waiting for a fully updated software to fix the overheating issue or skip the 1iv and get a iphone 14pro. What you recommend for me, thanks by the way
Hi mate, I got the xperia 1 IV and a sony a7rIII but for some reason I cant make it work and use it as an external monitor, do you know if the a7riii is capable?

man, we are so missing your video, pls dont go away !!....we are all with u ..Love from BENGALURU-India
Which Xperia would you choose? Would definitely be the 1IV for me 👌🏻
The 1IV is the one I ended up getting. Still to do something with it though!😂
The 1iv for me. But if you really need that battery swap capability, the original Xperia Pro allows you to live stream via hdmi leaving the usb-c port available to attach a power bank
IV if you need something to warm up your food
Definitely the Pro i again
I always really enjoy your videos.

It seems official cable by Sony
But I couldn’t find it on the web.
Congratulation now you become the ambassador of new Sony Xperia 1V. Your artworks always amazing!!!!
James, I miss your content that isn't just adverts for Sony. Let's get it back to basics mate. Top lad.
1 hr is def too little for most professional shoots but I think it’s still useful to have as a backup. I view the Xperia lineup as a good supplement to the alpha experience.
Sony just needs to put out a 5" monitor so we can have these great video features without needing a phone to do it.
The thing is though, the phone hardware is what enables those features. A barebones external monitor doesn't have 5G, it doesn't have the processing power to package video data for streaming. It makes more sense to use the phone especially if you already have one.
At a cost of what?……$3000?
If you have a phone, you don't need a computer to live stream.
The Monitor+ app (iOS and Android) for around 20€ works great. Especially with a USB C to USB C cable on Android because you avoid all that messing around with wifi and Bluetooth.
It's actually better than the Sony software from most perspectives!
@@andersberner But the app is very low resolution.. FYI
link to the cable used?

Hi,
1:31 Does it only work with Sony cameras? Or can it be done with other cameras?
Does the Xperia IV work with the FX3 and/or the A7RV?
Can you tell me which cable was used to connect the smartphone to the camera?
Insane video as always Thanks James !
Does any usb c cable work? And is that phone holder same as Sony vlog monitor to kit to experia?
You can use the Monitor+ app with USB cable and it is much more loaded with video monitor extras than this Sony app that is available only in those crazy expensive phones.
Thanks for the video. Really well explained.
Wireless charge should be possible while using as monitor or live streaming while usb-c port is connected to camera
Thanks for the content. Can you see the menu or eye focus points and record the screen for tutorials?
Where is your mounting and the usb-c cable for the smartphone from?
Can use any phone?
What the name of the mount??
WOW 👑 SONY GOD FOREVER#1 ✌️ 👑

Which phone do you prefer if you could choose only one for a similar price? Pro-i or 1 iv?
Nice vid James, cheers for the work. Can I hook up to an A92?
when in USB streaming mode doesn't it force your camera out of 4K24/25 though?
when you actually showed live footage as a monitor it wsa super laggy, is that the case ?
Nice video! And I also wonder if it is possible to take photos while using the phone as an external monitor?
Do you think 6300 will get this feature ?
How about wireless charging while using as a monitor. Sorry I dont know how that would work? If you have an old sony camera you could use this phone as a video cam pretending to be a monitor.

If you're using the USB-C connection, how would you keep the A7 charged up on the go?
Buy a dummy battery and a powerbank
I've had the Pro i for a few months. it is outstanding. But it tends to be very real. lots of photos outside in the sun and there is an overheat warning. I can live with it, but this point could get even better.
James, what is that mount for the phone ontop of the camera?
That's what I'm wondering as well. Cant find it anywhere
Does this work on Fujifilm too?
Can I connect it to my older A6500 too? (Sony Xperia 1 VI)??
Do you know if these sony phones work with A7C II?
but.. can you charge it wirelessly WHILE streaming? sticking a charging dock with ductape somehow...(?)
How's the latency?
We love you Mathew. I hope you realise what a true living legend you are. You helped inspire me more shooting.
James, does the Sony phones come with the hot shoe clamp in the video? Thanks
I have tried to connect my Sony a6700 to the Xperia Pro I, but have just got a black screen. What have I done wrong?
Whats the holder attached to the camera that holds the phone?
Where do you get the mount and the cable???!
does it work on Fujifilm?
maybe using a portable bank that have qi charging will solve that? sure itd be hot tho.
Can you touch focus on either of these phones when using it as a monitor? Can you also load in LUTS when shooting in SLOG?
I use this setup with my Sony ZV-E10 and only get 1280x720 as monitor resolution. Tried all settings ... no way to go to 1920x1080
It sucks as an "external monitor. I had to go into usb streaming mode which limits my fps options. and it basically just screen records. It doesnt control my camera at all. Ill stick to my atamos and choose my resolution and frame rates independent of what available for usb streaming.
I am connecting the phone and the camera and nothing works.
What is the name of the mount????? Pahleeeasse!!
How is the brightness in direct sunlight? Not sure if i missed that. Thank you
heyyy nice video, but i am wondering what is the usb-c cable you used at 2:14 because i can't find any good quality cable that isn't straight (i'm looking for bent cables)
My Xperia 5 iv can Work as a second Monitor, but it seems it doesnt work on the a7iii...so annoying. I cant afford a new camera.
Hi! Please let me know the product name that shoe
xperia combined with alpha camera
So much value from this video...Killing it like always🙌 Thanks James😎🙏
Did you know that they have overheating problems?
So... it does not work on the flagship A1?
does it work on my xperia 5 mark iii???
Do you know what cable is needed to connect the Experia 1 iv to my Sony FX3
How about the new xperia1v,lighter screen, less overheat?longer battery light?
Do you have to use a Sony camera to use the phone as a monitor?
Can you use it with the FX3 & FX9 if you're only using it as a monitor? I want to use it for the false color features.
Does this feature only work with Sony products? Or is it universal?
Can you tell me the name of the cable used to transfer the image ?
I have the A7C and Xperia V IV. I still can't get it to work. Literally bought the phone for this. I got the Sony monitor app on but when I connect it to the camera it says it's not connected. I bought a USB-C cable that specifically said it transfers video.

I have a question, does anybody know if I can use an external mic, if so can you tell me how to do it. Thanks!!
Thanks for the topic. A bit less hands waving please (Ricky Bobby lol)
whats the name of the sony hot shoe phone mount?
Sony phones are very wonderful
Do these phones work well on non Sony DSLR as external monitors?
I watch over and over this channel regarding about Xperia 1iv, some reviewers holding me back to get one bcz of overheating issue. can you record viewfinder from the Xperia phones? for pov content
Can you use the Sony A6400?
Hi mate, I got the xperia 1 IV and a sony a7rIII but for some reason I cant make it work and use it as an external monitor, do you know if the a7riii is capable?
dang I only have the a6400. Hope they can add the a6000s to the app
Have they updated yet?? I have a a6400 as well and want to pick up a Xperia phone but won't if i can't use the app
Hey bro, what is name of the mobile's on camera mount?
That opening sequence was penggg can't believe what phones are doing these days
Those are from marketing videos which should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt.
Not bad but I want an Atomos Ninja V 👌😁
Bare interesting
First ever holy me I loveee ittt❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥
Been doing it for ages! These Sony are cool, but most android phones will work the same with a USB 3 to hdmi capture card!
Can it be done using the latest Galaxy? And can you stream to Instagram?
@@ArtKingjr yap
@@ArtKingjr dunno about Insta, but I don't see why it wouldn't work with the last galaxy
@jjmaia What app do you use? I have a usb c capture card but I couldn’t find an app with a good rating.
@@philgq otg camera, not on play store
What about a7siii??????

Be a man 😉😉
