@ShoOKitssho_time I know he can't preform certain songs anymore like he used to. He wanted to give the audience the best show possible. With that being said live performances take on a whole new life. Interesting to see what he chooses and changes up on the Vegas presidency? Wishing you a happy Thanksgiving.
Mike is really saving the show in terms of the vocals. Sammy had a great range but he also used a lot of strain to sing as high as he could, those days are over clearly. Mike is gifted to singing in a high register so comfortably
@pseudotatsuya you know he's in the tequila selling business right? I don't think he's ever been a big drinker, it's probably deliberate you see him drinking for promotional purposes. In moderation it's OK, I never seen him wasted. He said his dad was an alcoholic and he's never wanted to be that too
I love Sammy Hagar and I love Van Halen. But admittedly, my favorite rock band of all times is Def Leppard. I’ve been a fan of Def Leppard since 1980! There’s one song in the Def Leppard catalog that I absolutely love, it’s a rare song and it’s a B-side song, the name, “me and my wine.” It’s a song that appeared in the re-release of their album, high and dry way back in the mid 80s. Now, I’ve watched Def Leppard in concert well over 50 times in my life. And they have never played this song. I have sent countless letters to the fan club, on the blogs to the website, begging for them to play this song one time, yet never. I sent repeated messages to them to play it when this latest tour was announced and my hometown was one of stops in the tour of this year and they never played it. Here you have Sammy Hagar with the rest of the guys doing a last-minute request they go, backstage rehearse, and do a fantastic job! This is why Sammy Hagar and his band have to be perhaps the nicest and greatest group of Rockstar performers today. God bless Sammy and all the amazing musicians in his band 👊🏼
What a fearless group of musicians! This is a harder song to pull off than it sounds on the record. This is fantastic! Keep polishing this one, guys. Edit: What a tasty lead by Joe!
Sammy doesn't have the range for the high notes any more unfortunately. They either need to tune down further or do an acoustic version that's tuned way down like the version of Dreams he does with Vic Johnson.
A lot of the performances cut short because Sammy had a terrible throat infection. Wasn’t thrilled when the show in Miami, April 23, 1995… ended early.
Notice the crowd is leaning right against the stage with no security in sight. The American shows have a barrier separating the crowd from the stage by about 4 feet. They know the Japanese wouldn’t violate the rules.
I never thought that Joe would have fit in with the Van Halen catalog because his style is way different altogether. But seeing his other shows with Sammy on RUclips I was so blown away and such a tribute to eddie. This lineup is one of the best out there age included. You could tell in the beginning Sammy had a little hiccup but given this song is tough to sing even if he was back in his 30s it’s just hard to d vocally wise. I would love to see these guys pull off their own tunes and record an album. It would be filled with explosive sounds and energy and blow the fans out there away. Such talent it’s sickening lol😅
Joe really took an academic approach to it, and it showed. He basically did the guitar equivalent of method acting, and nailed it. If they do it again maybe they’ll drop it a half step although, it’s just a tough song to sing.
I think this song was only planned for Japan (I think it charted at number 1 for VH there in 95). I noticed the chorus background changed (Mike did the oohs with a special mic, I think evh did background vocals on this too). Hard song to play live I imagine despite having tunes like 5150 and Runaround in the set as well (vocally, with the guitar tones and the drums after the guitar solo).
Kenny Aronoff. He's filling in for Jason Bonham because Jason's mom had a medical emergency and wasn't doing well so Jason went to be with her. Kenny filled in for Chad Smith on a Chickenfoot tour over a decade ago.
Joe did an interview where he said Sammy wanted to try it. Joe said he’d need a couple weeks between shows to work out the tone because its so different to other VH stuff. So that probably pushed rehearsals to between this leg and the last leg of the tour. They clearly rehearsed a bit. They nailed it. Joe especially. Sammy probably exaggerated with the “1 hour notice”. Just like he did with “never played”. He did say one tour which is true Unfortunately crowd’s don’t get excited by “first time we played this… except this time…. And that time… oh and one other time there”
