I've spent the last month building my trailer but I went with a steel 16', v nose, 2060 lbs empty. I wanted to be able to strap 4×8 sheet goods to a wall. I used your long shelf idea for my tracks and paint handles, levels, your adjustable dividers for all my nail guns and containers of pex, copper, kreg and I used your big 8'drawer for shovel, post hole digger and demo tools. This is going to make my life so much easier. No more loading and unloading my truck every day. I built shelves for totes and dedicated those totes for plumbing, painting, sheetrock, tile, cabinetry etc. I'm starting a new apartment building next week and it's going to be so much more efficient. THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT IDEAS.
😎🤙
Your organization is an inspiration to us all. It’s very comforting to always know exactly where stuff is and having it in its place!
LIker-Subscriber-Notifier here... I love how sturdy those drawers are - yet only made out of 1/2" plywood! Wow! ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE PASSIVE DRAWER LOCKING STOP.
Hey Ron. Please consider an anti sway bar. I just totaled my truck and trailer on black ice in eastern CO. High winds started the fish tail. Thank God we're all alive and healing. I never considered a sway bar for a small -ish trailer. But it may be a life saver.
Love the videos. Love the way you think
Thanks for all you are able to share with us!
It's Sunday and I was at at a client's home to clean-up tools & load them into my trailer...
4 hours, and that's typical at my job sites. I am looking forward to having some down time to consider what portions of SMART I'd be able to make the most use of & how I'll integrate them into the existing layout without ripping all of the existing racks & work bench out to do it!
The ladder & roof racks may be the easiest next investment in my "BFT." It's and American Hauler, 12x7x6'-6" w/ deep V nose. arrived with a 3500# axle, broke that the first winter here in northern NJ. Performance Trailers installed a 5500# axle & it's been smooth since!
I'ts a pleasure to support your efforts!
Thanks Ron!
You're impressive on your anticipation and organization skills !!!
Thank you Ron
Appreciate the time you take to share your knowledge with all of us.
The commentary makes me think of things that I would not think of until it is too late. Thank you!
I'm blown away at your dedication Ron! So motivating! Thank you
I love these videos. I don't have a genuine need for a trailer , although I would like one, but I do work out of a very small shop. I have applied many of your design principles to my shop and it has helped me enormously. It has made my space more efficient, more productive cleaner and most of all a pleasant place to work. Thank you for sharing your ideas and for the tremendous amount of work it takes to present them.
Always refer back to innovation Ron, just some awesome tips and cool tools for efficiency.
I have my custom 8 x 14 rolling toolbox starting getting built this week in time for xmas break so i have time to fit all the shelves, i cannot wait.
love your trailer video brother!
Beautiful work. Most logical setup I have ever seen.
What a wonderful video mate. I am only a hobby woodworker, but it would be awesome to have a trailer like this and to own as many tool as you do. Hopefully someday I might.
I'm going to start by building the Paulk Workbench II, its going to be much better to use than the foldup blowmould plastic tables that I have been using in the past.
Thank you for all your hard work and willingness to share your designs.
Cheers
Love your system. I don't own a trailer, but a small shed. Because of the limited space, i want to use your solutions to arrange my tools. Thank you!! JW
I wasnt expecting the tour until the build series was done - excellent surprise. Thanks for sharing and i’m looking forward to the rest of the videos!
Great video Ron! Thank you for all your videos and these awesome trailers!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and ideas Ron.
What if you extended the hole for the power cord and air hose up with a pvc pipe. No need to close the hole or bend over to put in the airhose and powercord.
Loving the new smart wood shop. Can’t wait to start building the workstation and putting your plans to work in my shop and on the job.
Ron, thank you for telling us about your thoughts on the use of resources. I tend to make resource decisions on emotion, not on economics. Great video too.
D Scott l l ,
You're making such amazing videos and tutorials. Count me in for one that wants to purchase plans for the SMART woodshop!
This video was incredibly helpful. I am considering doing some contracting work (rather than shop work), part time, and this answered a lot of questions that I would have otherwise not even asked. Thanks.
Awesome I just bought a 8x20 for my Sign Co and Definitely gonna use some of your ideas
Great job Ron! I've learned a lot about lean and working efficiently from you and your videos. Thanks for sharing how you get your materials to the job I've often wondered that.
Love your videos! I love nerding out in these deep dives.
a router is the best saw I ever made for a carpenter." -Ron Paulk 20:42
Best line in a construction video ever.
Hey Ron, I bought the plans for the smart trailer. I just bought a 14 ft enclosed used. Not a Mission trailer by far but it's my first and im gonna love it! Bought the materials list you have on the plans and have started with the bottom box today. Will see how far I can get tomorrow. Thanks for the helpful videos and info, Ron. Im in the middle of a lot of work and trying to get this trailer finished in the midst of a very busy season but it's gonna be worth it! I subscribed to your channel and look forward to learning more from you!
Looking for Bloxygen! Love the video. Great design, functional drawers and dividers, labels, labels, and more labels! Thank you Ron!
Thank you Ron for the tour ! You have been inspirational to myself as I have tried to fit my "ART" into a "SMART" sized trailer. Great job!
I'm 5 years late to the party but.... fantastic! 👏👏👏👏
Never too late. Welcome to the fam.😎🤙
Hey Ron, I am curious about how you mounted your Milwaukee 12 volt chargers to the side of a cabinet you made. Have you found that they stay in place with just the mounting screw slot on the back of it? I wasn't sure if the bouncing that a trailer goes through would allow them to stay put> also, do the batteries ever fall out? My trailer I have is a 5x8 that I have made a modified SMART trailer out of, using aluminum shelving and weatherguard boxes. Being that the trailer is so small, I wanted to save the thickness of the plywood that I felt would take up too much space. It is amazing how many tools I have in there. Thanks for inspiring me to get myself organized!
Hey Ron, Thanks for a great video and explaining the great work that your walking us through. Thank You!
Awesome work Ron! Thanks so much for the deep dive tour. I absolutely love SMART, and am modeling my 12' cutaway with underbody storage on your designs/plans. The same holds true for the trailer that will come later.
As always, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience with the world!
Great Job Ron. Thank You for showing us your experience and knowledge of wood working tips. I'm for one am a DIY'er, and I have learn some great tips and steps doing simple procedures building projects. You make awesome video's and it shows you take quality time for outstanding shots. Again, Thank You so much.... O', Have a Wonderful Merry Christmas with your family and friends and also Have a Prosperous New Year....
Love the overhead cam idea.
Love your videos. Very informative and inspiring. Great trailer!
Great video! Love the trailer set up. I used a lot of your ideas in my trailer. The day's work flows so much better!
Awesome video. I really enjoy the details, especially when you build. I learn a lot! Thanks for that and I look forward to the rest (and the new toys video)!
Nice Trailer Great Job Beautiful Garage Thou 👍
Amazing! Well done Ron.
Fantastic, inspiration to convert my wells cargo
Very inspirational cant wait to start on my new 6x12 tandem axle!
Wish I could give more than one thumbs up, great job!
Great stuff. Thanks for sharing your ideas and how you implement. Inspired!
sooooooo..... getting ready to build my own. I have emailed RON and heard nothing back, I want to buy plans, but I'm afraid to purchase plans if theres no response to emails... also the moreland company is going out of business and Ultralight plywood has been discontinued so you cant even order it.... SO, any recommendations on where to go from here? I LOVE these plans and setup because I am TERRIBLE at organizing myself and would love to have a setup like this, only bigger to also carry supplies... Is there any other options for ultralight plywood?
PMK Woodworking .... hope you are well. I ordered his plans and it is an automated 3rd party company that hosts the payment and link to download. It was incredibly easy and seamless. Plans are easy to follow and with the RUclips videos, all questions seem to be answered. Best of luck with your build. I love my SMART trailer.
@@sspencer7780 Thanks
Great Job and love all that you do. Do you know about the M. Powers CRB7 Router Jig?
I used it to cut the drawer dodos instead of making a jig… Also, one of you benches is in the January Fine Home Building Magazine I believe page 18 in a Home Depot add...
Hey im building the smart trailer right now and was really dreading making those jigs! Then I saw your comment and checked it out. Awesome tool! I will be doing the drawer sides tomorrow and unfortunately no place has the router jig locally, but I got the solution just watching the demo videos of the jig. Thanks a lot for sharing!
She's a beauty Ron. Thanks for sharing!
Part of the weight difference between ART and Smart is the trailer frame. ART is an EZ Hauler and SMART is a Mission. EZ Hauler is Mission's less expensive brother. Both are made in the same factory and both are excellent quality. From a weight perspective the Mission has a full length frame and EZ Hauler has a front subframe. This would account for about 100 pounds of the weight difference. Other differences between EZ Hauler and Mission are mission has rubber torsion springs while EZ Hauler has steel leaf springs and Mission has a deeper V-nose. For anyone who is not near a Mission dealer the same company makes Cargo Pro and Stealth trailers. Cargo Pro and Mission are almost identical. EZ Hauler and Stealth are the same. The only differences are minor cosmetic trim.
I didn't know that.
Your Mission/EZ Hauler dealer should have explained the differences between the brands.
Great deep dive tour! I know that you can't do an actual build for every vehicle type, but I sure would like to get some feedback from you regarding how you would adapt this Smart Woodshop into a work van. There are so many videos for van racking, but I haven't come across one that says, "Paulk Inspired Work Van Setup".
A video would be great - just some comments and sketches regarding the Smart Workshop features that you consider to be "Must Have". Maybe a quick sketchup tour with your ideas and thoughts for upfitting something like a high roof 159" Ford Transit Van.
In the meantime, I will be paying close attention to the "build" videos of your Smart Workshop.
Thanks!

Thanks Ron!
Great series, a lot of work and effort that is appreciated at this end.
Will there be plans available for the smart.
Excellent Overview! Always enjoy the videos...
Nice tool trailer. Very equipped. 👍
Great job Ron. Thanks for the content. What do you do with all of your sustainers. Would you be interested in selling any ?
I use them and always find a reason to buy more😎🤙🤙
Thanks for showing the drawers!
Hello Ron. Great set of videos. I am in the process of getting a trailer. You mentioned in one of your videos that you purchased trailers from a company Georgia. I was wondering if you had any recommendations. Any comments or suggestions that would be great. I was considering a company call Trojan Cargo Trailers. Any experience?
Hi Paul, so I purchased your workbench plans about one year ago and I think i'm ready to buildout the trailer. I have a question: "What is your opinion in regard to the high summer heat in the trailer on how it affects the tools?" I'm in Southern Cali. and it gets Blazzzzing hot here…upwards of 105 fahrenheit (standing in the shade). My concern is that the inside of an All aluminum trailer will be like an oven and bake everything to a crisp. Thank you in advance for any insight.
Awseome video. Thanks for sharing with us
Thanks Ron. Amazing!
Best part, the long drawer for pry bars and long tools. They can't fall if they are already laid down.
Thanks for this video. The "Day xx" videos have been a but light on content. I'm sure others have enjoyed them, but I watched your updates when you were building SMART so it was too much of a re-do. This video is great. Very informative.
wow, that is a cool set up. I was thinking "I never knew Robert Redford was so good at woodwork"
Hi Ron
Thank you for inspiration.
Here is my plumbing van in the UK, as you can see many of your wonderful ideas came into play.
If your ever in the UK be sure to look me up.

Love the efficient organized layout. 2 second leaned, continue to fix what bugs you. :)
Awesome Ron! Totally amazing. I appreciate all your videos.
This is amazing Ron! Can it be adapted to a 6x10 trailer? Also, is the a dedicated storage spot for sheet goods or do you keep those in the isle?
If you are up close to a garage door u aren't opening the ramp which is your only access... It also makes your trailer another 6.5 ft or so long along with your truck that's at least 35 ft. I have a crew cab truck with a 16ft trailer but barn doors on the back. It's still hard to squeeze into driveways but I couldn't imagine having a ramp as a contractor... There is so many flaws u didn't mention, the weather is the biggest thing. My side door is key in the winter and rain ... That's a good question what do u do in the rain? Is the ramp waterproof?
I really like your trailer set up wish I had the time to make one like it
Hi. I open the garage door first and then the ramp lays down on the garage slab. Everything stays dry as I enter the trailer from the dry garage. At the end of the day, I close the ramp and then the garage door for added security. I had barn doors on my first couple of trailers and couldn't wait to get a ramp door. All trailers since have had ramps and work flawlessly. Many of my trailers had side doors as they were bought off the lot with them. I screwed the side doors shut from the inside and built cabinets in front of them to access from the inside. On one of my trailers, I built a cabinet in front of the side door and used the door to access the cabinet, but not entry into the trailer. I know different contractors have different needs, it is just my personal experience building over 200 houses, too many remodel to count, and having multiple crews with multiple trucks and trailers, I found a system that worked for my company. Barn doors were always in the way and reduced our efficiency. Ron😎🤙
@@mcdanielbrothers If you schedule to the time to set up your work truck/trailer you will be more efficient, make more money and have more time to enjoy life. The purpose of my channel is to share my personal experience of being efficient. Not everything I do will fit the needs of everyone, but being efficient is universal and will improve every contractor's production, work quality, profitability, and quality of life. Ron
@@TheSmartWoodshop so you always have a garage door to keep your ramp door dry?
Unless I'm always back into a garage I just couldn't imagine only opening a six and a half foot by 8 foot door when it's pouring rain outside or blistering cold and if it is a "workshop" wouldnt you want it closed from the elements that big door sort of defeats that purpose a/c or heat?. I'm not trying to argue. I plan to purchase another trialer soon and your trailer builds are some of the most sought-after on the net I just can't wrap my head around why you like the ramp so much
Carpentry and Photography- my two trades of choice as well! You’re my hero dude keep it up I’m learning a lot thanks!
I want to know about that jig you have at the tongue... to move the trailer around....
Hope you have GPS Tracking on that trailer.
Have you ever considered using a big van instead of a trailer + truck?
Yes. If you look at my videos I had an F-550 with 16' box and lift gate with mobile shop. I have had 3 other box vans shops as well. Each has pro and cons. I like have the truck separate from the hauler most of the time, but I do miss the box truck's pull up plug in and work aspect for pickup work.
you are amazing Ron!! I love this ..I will share mine once its done
Ron, where can I find the bungee attachment you are using on your vacuum hoses?
Home Depot
You are big on dust control - your thoughts on air scrubbers in conjunction with the dust curtains?
We miss you Ron, where did you go?
Kind of surprised on the off the rack ladder rack rather than just having something custom and nicer made. A standoff on the rear can be so nice if you do long walk boards etc
Not sure what your are seeing. This aluminum ladder storage with walk plank down the middle is perfect and custom from Mission for this trailer. Maybe your are referring to another channel.
@@TheSmartWoodshop hmm looks alot like the standard cross bar stuff you buy. All the ones I have done I keep it low to the trailer and do structural pieces along the sides. Thats a weird way to do a custom one but to each there own I suppose. I gusse that could be semi custom too rather than a full build.
Good Job, very good explanation, Thank you.
Ron man. I like your channel & know you’re a really smart dude.
Just came across your channel for the crown vids you explained. Awesome POV content.
Keep it up, Ron.
Thanks,
Hey Ron, thanks for the great video. Can you tell me about the front trailer wheel. Can you move your trailer by hand around the shop? Thanks.
Yep! I have made a few videos demonstrating it. What a great tool and a great value: ruclips.net/video/wfrfeLtlLtw/видео.html
Thanks for the response Ron, great video, great product, Thanks, Al
Excellent job 👌
In lumber, to do build out. How much weight do you think it totals. What is the weight cap of your trialer?
Ron, great videos on SMART. I bought the plans and now getting a quote on the Mission from my local dealer. Is there a specification of your trailer that I can reference with the list of options?
Ron have you thought about putting in an electrical outlet on the side of the trailer?
Looks awesome! Why did you decide not to use the tool boxes from Costco?
What brand are those rolling storage bins that you keep your paint and tile tools in? I need a couple of those for the same reasons
How much did the trailer cost to buy?
Ron I love the videos...I am currently working on my second rolling toolbox design, both in the back of box trucks.
I do have one question... do you put any sealer on the drawers or tops to stop them from getting so dirty?
Would love to send you pictures of my first build.
Question on the drawer lockers. I have a couple of drawers that are heavier and they tend to wear down the lock blocks and rails and drawers don't stay. Any suggestions?
I haven't had any stops fail yet. I am running a few very heavy drawers, one with clamps and another with framing nails. Mine have lasted over 5 years, so if one failed, I would just replace it. Be sure to lift the draw and not just pull on it hitting the stops. Ron😎
Did the trailer come with the black paint floor? I just bought a trailer and looking to use porch floor paint enamel I believe
what incremental drawer height are you using? meaning what is the height of the shortest drawer? looks like 2 or 3" ?
Aluminum frame trailers are very nice, expensive but resale is higher and you’re not dealing with a rusty trailer. And of course they are lighter
One question: do those magnetic holders over the countertop hold the pliers/wrenches ok? I would wonder about them bouncing off while in transit.
So far they have stayed, but if they fall no big deal.
Love it brother!
The Moreland website is outdated with last news update 2015 with no obvious mention of retail sources. Lowes discontinued sales. Can you share your source to buy Moreland plywood?
Hey Ron! What are the exact external and internal dimensions of the trailer? Thank you!
How tall are you, and what height is the trailer?
Now the question is. Could you have gone shorter? the width is what it has to be but i think 2 feet shorter could have worked
amazon shop link is dead ron! love your stuff!
Ron. You have the Atlas vest. How is it holding up? I am thinking about ordering their apron but cant try it in Holland. So i have to rely on your and others opinion. Thanks. Jw
The Atlas apron has become my "goto." It works perfect and I can wear my good clothes in the shop.
Good stuff son! 🤟
How much would you charge to do a smaller scale build like this in my van?
What kind of axles are those? 3500?
Awesome!
Awesome! But where do you keep the kapex
You have to watch the video again as it was clearly shown😎🤙
