    Raising a family of 6 and not a pro carpenter... I finally had time to use my first ever template for my sawhorses. Man, the effort to slowly cut through each one, then sanding them down... But they are all exactly the same, thanks to the ingenious template concept. It’s a slow go, but I’m really looking forward to completing this workbench... and now that you have the drop in miter slot... yay! Thanks Ron!

    I built my Paulk Total Station and Workbench II almost 4 years ago using standard Baltic birch plywood. I've been watching your videos this year thinking that maybe it's time to build a replacement with lighter weight plywood. I hoped this new version was coming soon. Thanks for producing a PSB like upgrade to the total station! I look forward to the build videos.

    I have watched most of your videos several times, trying to make up my mind on which bench I like. I have very limited space to work in! In one video you used 1/2" or 15mm plywood, in another you used 3/4" or 18mm plywood, and still another you used the 15mm for the base and back and the 18mm for the top. You also mention that the horses or bases that you build work better if they are 18mm, less flex. Since weight of the tops is a major consideration, I have lost a lot of strength due to a medical issue, so I would like them as light as is practical.
    Thanks for your great videos,
    GR
    Your advice is welcome.

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  4 года назад +2

      The SS was moved to the right further than I place it in the standard position, it works on the back edge of the router tables behind the router fences and the back of the miter saw. It is a great set up as I don't have to remove the router fences or fight the miter saw. I have pleanty of ripping since I do all of my wide rips with a track saw.

    If the flip stops had 96mm of screw adjustment, you wouldn't need to have the miter strips. Just put the flip stop in two 20mm holes perpendicular to the work, so there is no rotation. Would be a bit slower to use as the screw adjustment would take time, but could be use anywhere, on any of the benches. The tape measure would still be the same. Not sure if better, just different.

  • @rs2343-o4e
    @rs2343-o4e 3 года назад

    Ron, what are your thoughts on when using the parf guide to increase the number of 20mm holes to 48 mm centers instead of the 96mm? It would reduce the weight

  • @danielbuckner2167

  • @josephlarsen

    Ron, can you do a video to go into more details about the stop and how to install the tape? I get the idea of how to stick it in, but it's not 100% obvious how you pick where to place them and how they relate to the stops. It seems like it's not accurate to the blade but accurate somehow to the stops themselves is that true? If so, what part of the stops, it sounds like you did it off the body of the stop somehow. It'd be cool to see a video showing a zoomed in version of the stop to show exactly how you measure (hopefully this is a quick video request :))

    400mm??? Just call it 40cm (please!) It's industry standard. Like 1mtr 50 or 1 MTR 20.
    When I ask my colleague for a 400mm, chances at a noisy jobsite are they show up with a 4mtr piece. Because the words millimetre and centimetre are to much alike.
    4,00 is 4 meter in the industry in Asia, Europe and Africa. Australia I'm not sure, never worked there.
    Indications of mm are only used when very precious measurements are needed. Like installation of medical equipment in hospitals. USA and CAN still don't understand how Asia, Australia, Africa and Europe work. If you use the metric system, at least educate yourself and learn to use it right. Please. Thanks in advance

      Opposite in most shops down here in Australia, If you asked for something at 40 long your going to get 40mm long. All sites i have ever worked in or shops exclusively use mm and M, avoid cms due to the mistakes it makes.
      So whilst it might be 'Industry Standard' in your locality. It isnt everywhere.
