I highly recommend the EX series. I purchased a Sport and I love it. Added on a Riva ride plate and a EXR intake grate. I’m seeing around 53.5 mph. It carves hard and hooks up really good. Reminds of the old school days. It’s light enough to toss around and jump waves not feeling like a huge couch like all the big skis.
The EXR is still one of our favorites. Super fun skis!
Where can I buy intake and riva ride plate?
@@jasonjacobs2095 I went right to my dealer and ordered and EXR intake grate. Other companies make them but they’re triple the price and they do the same. Riva makes the ride plate. They are located I believe in Pompano Beach Florida. They are a dealership as well as performance company. They are all about Yamaha racing. Let me know how you make out once you do the install. Cheap mods and great all around gains.
Great review Kevin, thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching! Please share with your friends!
WOW! Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video as always. Strange how this is the only limited model in all of Yamaha’s Waverunner line up that we get in Canada. Great value but I think I would still take the EXR over the limited model.
Interesting!
Thanks for the review I’m thinking about getting one of these. Just to make sure though, the standard $9,599 package gets you the tube, tow rope, speakers, etc?
That is correct
@@watercraftjournal thanks! And do you have to buy a trailer separately?
@@landrydorf9249 yes. Trailers are sold separately.
Good day, I have a 2013VXR. Looking at a new VXHO, with the 13, I get sprayed in the face in waves over 12”, is the newer model better for that?? Thanks for your time
Yes, it is.
I never had a waverunner type craft.. I have a 20' boat which seems like too much work for me..
I'm older but healthy and am wondering if they beat on you?.. or if I would get along with one.
It depends on the size of the PWC you're looking at (obviously, the larger the PWC the more forgiving it is). Equally, it depends on where you're looking to ride. These smaller runabouts will not absorb the bumps like a larger unit.
does this ski come with the storage bag on the stern?
Yes, as we explicitly detail in the article linked in the description.
Great video as usual.
P.S. went back through your videos and “liked” them for ya.
Hope that helps.
You rock!
@@watercraftjournal Same here Kevin! 'Like, comment and share!'
Keep up the great work and love the sunday live sessions, even if i don't catch it 'live'. Awesome straight forward no BS no Agenda reveiws and info!
Thank you!
Great video. Yamaha website states this comes with 4 pull up cleats but it appears it comes with 2, is this correct?
Does it come with only the dry storage bag, or do they also include the hard storage tray in addition to the bag?
Website also states it comes with a matching cover. Is this a matching cover for the ski, or the tow tube?
TIA for any help, much appreciated. Also, a video on the 21’ exr would be kickass.
There's only 2 on the EX, I believe the FX has 4 cleats. What's the "hard storage tray?" I don't even see that listed in the accessories catalog. Never in my life have I seen a cover for an inflatable innertube. It's OBVIOUSLY for the ski. ;)
Okie dokie then. Hard tray is what comes in all other models. Dry bag is an upgrade option. I was just curious if they included the dry tray in addition to the bag. There are LOTS of tubes that are sold with covers as it’s easier and less expensive to replace or repair the tube vs. buying new
We've seen carry-along canvas bags sold with inflatable towables, but not covers.
Saw this in person today. To confirm...only two cleats. Kind of bummed, but bought two of these babies.
Just preordered a 2022 model for daughter to have her own ski. Went with this over Sea Doo Spark. Hopefully made right choice
It's a lot easier to reboard and maintain.
@@watercraftjournal Thanks that's also what dealer told me in addition to the plastic hull on Spark being cheaper.
My main complaint with the EX is the plastic trim pieces on the sides cut into you leg when aggressively riding and jumping waves, if the molded fiberglass came up higher it would not be a problem. For the price point I'd go VX most of the time . If all EX came with factory trim control and possibly an extended jet nozzle; it would be a tougher decision
The deck extension over the engine compartment? Interesting.
@@watercraftjournal right, I rented one and did high speed turns in light chop and was only 1.5hrs but felt it after and more so next day. I decided not to buy one. Another time we road maybe 3.5 hours and got some massive air. Holding the seat with your legs and aggressive marsh S turn riding the pain was annoying, least for me
I just got a 2021 EX-r. I cannot believe it does not have any security feature (i.e a key!). Seems really strange
It's got a lanyard, right? (Yamaha did away with the key fob a little while ago.)
@@watercraftjournal correct. The end result is you cannot really leave this ski anywhere without keeping an eye on it. One could use a (for example) a shoe lace to hold up the kill switch. Just seems totally stupid. Yamaha could have a special order option for say $300 for a proper key.
Where are you riding where you can't leave your ski alone long enough to have lunch? South Central Detroit?
@@watercraftjournal - I live outside of NYC on large lake many people and some not so honest.
Keep in mind, many $50K construction machines and tractors use ALL the same key.
Is it worth installing these sponsons on my EX deluxe? Will it make it more stable?
No. And sponsons don't make a ski stable.
@@watercraftjournal Can you explain? At 3:00 mark on the video it says "features slightly widened sponsons for increased static and dynamic stability. Change was made because this model was expected to be operated with multiple passengers."
It all comes down to understanding what sponsons actually do. Stable and "dynamic stability" are not the same thing. When people say "stable" they think "It doesn't rock back and forth" but never think at what speed. Dynamic stability means "at speed." That's it. This little guy will roll over on you if you're sitting still no matter the sponsons you've got on it. But at speed, the blades dig in and keep the ski firmly planted in the water. -K
Very. Well. Spoken. Man. Would love. To. Hear. About. Salt. Water. Use. ???? Thanks. Very. Much
In what regards? How to clean off a ski after riding in salt? Proper maintenance? We're working on a post-salt water clean up video in the coming months.
It sure has a retro look to it
Red-and-white is pretty classic!
Nah, not enough power..and it looks dated, retro.
I feel I would regret buying this after one weekend. I know it cost more, but I am looking at the 1800 cc model.
It's a small Rec Lite ski. It is exactly what it's supposed to be.
@@watercraftjournal
It’s a small Rec. lite ski?
Funny you didn’t sell as such 😆
