Love this medley, but i don't have a vr headset and my computer keeps glitching so i can't enjoy the video :(
I don't have a VR headset and watching it isn't pleasant but I made sure to give it a like

settings adjust 1080 or higher if your computer can take it ... if you watch some videos at lower it carries over on youtube

Everyone... Google "GoPro VR Player", which is a free download that will play this on a PC. You'll have to download the vid from RUclips, but there's tons of free apps to do that. (Gassan... I've got to tack this on to your "Top" comment or it will get buried. Hope you don't mind).
Couple tips: In Preferences, under "Input Stereoscopy", choose the 4th option (horizontal Top/Bottom sides A/B). Also, go under "Input Types" and play around with the three options there. They make the video a lot sharper, but adds some funky stuff around the edges. Good luck.

I hope you are releasing another version of this that you don't need VR to watch. I understand VR being the best way to watch something but this was rendered unwatchable any other way.
No, VR isn't the best way to watch this. This video was not designed with VR in mind. There is no action off camera and too many cuts for this to be a viable VR video. Sam is a good musician but this was literally the worst use of VR video ever. The video suffered for it in quality and frustration. You need to know when and not when to use the tools available to you.
Amen to that. Whilst this 'might' have been a half decent video shot in single point of view, filming it in 360 was a waste of time. All too often there was nothing that a narrow field of action that a single "traditional" camera would not have captured superbly. I kept looking around to see what else there was that made filming it in 360 worthwhile and sadly there was little to catch the eye.
Filming in 360 requires the director to go back to basics and reimagine their craft not just for a 110, 90, 60 degree view but for the entire space. Not having action occurring around the camera and very carefully (and subtly) leading the viewers eye from scene to scene means that the technology isn't being used to its best advantage.

I love La La Land, so I had high expectations for this since I know Sam's one of the most talented RUclips singers. It was alright, but it was nowhere near La La Land's quality. Sam definitely held up his end of the performance, but I don't think Megan was the right person to sing this.
Megan's voice isn't clear or subtle enough to sing those light and fast songs. Her voice is more suited for louder pop songs with slurred deliveries. Musical numbers tend to have LOTS of syllables as well as clearly enunciated-lyrics, so Megan's voice sounds pretty distracting even when singing in a group of people. Her voice isn't bad, but it's not the right fit for La La Land. Someone like Alex G or Kina Grannis would have been a more suitable fit.
I liked a lot of the video, but personally, I think "City of Stars" here was a letdown. Ryan Gosling may not be a great singer, but he definitely got the tone of the song. Sam and Megan tried too hard and didn't sound relaxed at the end.
Overall, this is a 6/10. It's good enough, but it's not worth watching multiple times.

I see what you mean in that "analysis". I read it through, and my immediate reaction was hate (because of the amount of work they did in the video), but then I tried to be open minded and read it again. Yes, I did notice the lack of Sam's ability towards the end of the medley, but I also see it this way: it was Amazing. I really liked the connection between songs were fluent. Another point which I have seen in the comments is the presence of Megan's voice and how it wasn't suitable for the preformance. I get your point on syllables and Megan's pitch/tone. Yes the preformance would be amazing (maybe better with Alex G and Kina Grannis). But when a group of people gather around to do preformance like this, it requires time, organization and rehearsal, mainly availability. So maybe Alex G and Kinna Grannis and other singers weren't available to preform. Also at the end of the day, this is a medley, and meldeys aren't supposed to be the same to the original work. Lastly going back to Sam's preformance towards the end of the preformance or him trying to hard, I see it this way: no everyone is perfect and people do make mistakes. Yes his videos are amazing and he is talented , but he is also a human being that makes mistakes sometime. Conclusion I thought Sam and Megan were amazing. *Seriously I don't hate you just putting my opinion, the same way you did. If this offended you or anyone, I am so sorry, it wasn't my intention, I totally get your comment*

I actually really liked megans voice in combination with that song.. And sam also did great...
But you see, everyone has a different taste so let's not argue about that
yeah what about the majority of people who do not own a VR headset because 1. expensive 2. rather useless tool
David PT It's hardly useless! It can be used for art and design, practice for medical procedures, in schools for demonstrations too dangerous for real life, etc etc
So as you proved, useless for most people... unless you're super into drawing and can afford it, no way buying a VR headset is worth it
Plus, RUclips has made, (what I regard) as the mistake of catering to the mobile implementations as opposed to the desktop implementations. They're equally impractical, yes, but I just feel like if you're going to try and break into such an eclectic market, you need to cast as wide a net as possible, at least for right now.
To answer your question, watch all the other videos on sam's channel and youtube that aren't vr or just listen to the singing.
Expensive ? You can get some for like 10$ you know ?

What really bothers me is all the complaining, sure the video was a little blurry but it wasn't so blurry to the point that it was unwatchable like a lot of you said. I feel like people are over exaggerating. Can we all just appreciate the music? I think they did very well with this and they sound amazing! They made an effort to change the video up so you could see it in a different perspective, so i think that all this hate is unnecessary :/
Definitely most ambitious 360 video I've seen! Keep it up guys! Mabye cut back on the quick edits a bit, but definitely interesting stuff.

My gosh.. magical screen i love it
Song is fine, but I'm sorry to say this was a poor use of 360 video. Too many cuts and all the action was focused front and center, no need to look around. It was actually more frustrating watching it cause just when you start to look around it just cuts. Just cause the technology exists doesn't mean you need to use it.

I applaud you for trying out 360 but you have to keep 360 in mind when shooting this stuff. You cant approach a 360 video the same way as you do a regular 16:9 video.

Very amazing cover but very bad VR... Everything happens in front of you anyway, there's nothing to see at the other angles, and there's too many cuts... VR exists to let the viewer decide what he wants to see, but now you're directing too much...

I didn't get it! Why 360 if you're gonna use 180 and editing? It would be so much better if it was all in one long 360 shot.

I Love this cover and the VR is a really cool idea
I honestly was disappointed by this. I used to like Megan, but I think I grew out of it. Her voice is just so sweet sounding and high that I didn't really hear any of the emotion Emma Stone portrayed. As for Sam, he was okay, but neither of them are amazing. Obviously Ryan and Emma are going to top most covers, but I found this one completely lacking the emotion and especially the ways the songs should be sung. The changes didn't fit, including the lyric changes and when they would skip lines, but especially when they would speed up songs that should definitely be slower ("A Lovely Night", for example, should definitely not be sung that fast). Overall it wasn't great.
Why the quality is so bad?
Don't know if it's just me, but the video doesn't work properly on laptop, I get the whole 360 view as a plane view twice (one window stacked on top of another) and it was a pain to watch! The medley definitely deserved a thumbs up though, LOVE the soundtrack :)

We have the PlayStation VR and its trippy to play games..some of it I can't do because of motion sickness. This was very cool! Clearly, I need to get into LaLa Land. ❤

This was AMAZING in VR! It really showed what the potential is when you combine good choreography with clever editing. Most shots had something happening all around, if not the next shot had something that you could see. Either it was people running into a shot or out of a shot. And then when you were looking at the focus area, very often the next shot would make you want to move just slightly, creating a sense of both interaction and direction in a way that you don't notice.
And I found this amazing all watching on desktop, with Anaglyph glasses for the 3D!
Great video and music arrangements. But I think I would've preferred to see the dancing with a proper camera along with some cinematography. But good nonetheless.
It's a bit a shame you didn't really use VR, this technology can be interesting especially to cover multiple angles of view, if you always put only one action in each scene, and then edit the whole thing, it's just a normal video where you can see the street behind. I don't know if I'm making myself clear, what I mean is that, maybe for the next time, try to move the action behind the camera or to place different actions at the same time in different places so the viewer can actually become actor of the screening, and choose what he wanna watch. :)
I wanted to like this medley, but no. La La Land's soundtrack is so beautiful because it's so natural, and singing it in this pop-refined way makes me cringe. I think it kind of ruins the music for me.
People complaining about the VR spoil this. I don't have a VR set but I had so much fun tilting my phone around and enjoying the amazing music.

actually i like the vr, i dont really understand why nobody else likes it. i dont have vr and even then i still love if because it feels 3d somehow. it's fun to move the phone around too. you should try it before commenting. the video quality is ✔ i love it. dont be discouraged sam!

I really loved La La Land and overall I liked the video, but I think the City of Stars section could have been better. It should have been smoother and more natural sounding. It sounded too forced and I liked how in the movie it had a nice calm sound to it.
