What are your favourite horror movies of the 60s?
Roman Polanski's Repulsion (1965)
I think it is one of the best example of how "show, dont tell" visual storytelling was done
@@marathonman2050 Yes! Great piece of dread and tension. It just keeps building and building its sense of foreboding until the final reel. I recently watched it again and it never disappoints. I believe the first time I watched it was on a PBS broadcast on a weekend night when I was a teen. It seemed like the greatest art film, and so chilling. I would rank it with Eraserhead as extraordinary psychological horror.
Psycho, The Haunting, Repulsion, Scream of Fear, Night of the Living Dead, The Birds, The Devil Rides Out, Rosemary's Baby, Paranoiac, Carnival of Souls, The Abominable Snowman, Eyes Without a Face.
I think the one I'm thinking of is actually from the 70's...
"What ever happened to baby Jane", "Psycho", "The birds", "Rosemary baby". The ending of "Night of the living dead" upset me.
most underrated film channel for sure
Nooooo. Most underrated is Red Coat Black Coat.
Oh I really hope you will cover all decades. I find it so interesting to see themes of movies change, influenced by the shift of society and politics!
I hope the 70s video talks about Black Christmas, that one truly created the slasher genre
"World war Z ...the book not the movie." SAME!!!
Yes! Thank you! Looking forward to the ‘70’s!
I feel the exact same way about zombie films. Never been a fan, yet I recently watched Night of the Living Dead and it was one of the most effective horror films I've ever seen.
Excellent choices - both parts 1 and 2. :)
Love horror movies great video love the channel ❤️❤️❤️
Just watched "the innocents" (1961): and i believe that it's one of the best horror movie with an amazing cinematography, can't really label it as most influential... but i guess most of the haunted house movies nowadays tends to immitate it even tho none of em are close to this masterpiece (btw "the others" 2001 which kinda have similar theme and possibly influenced by this was a good one)
Really appreciate all work you are doing on this channel 🔥 2:34 sounds like Tool - Lateralus, as soon as you said "(...) pushed the envelope" I've continued "watch it bend" 😊
Great video! Please do a video essay solely on Rosemary's Baby, my all-time favorite horror movie.
Love this! Thank you!
I haven't watched the other two films yet(well, I actually watched psycho, but didn't finish it, I will explain later) but Night of the living dead is one of my favorite horror movies ever.
The reason for that is that it still holds up today, it can be a little silly for today's standards, but that's also how it manages to break the expectations of modern audiences, the first time I watched it I wasn't sure why I liked it so much, but a while later I was spending time with a friend and I decided that we should watch psycho since I hadn't watched it yet, and I really liked it but she wasn't the kind of person who watches older movies, so after the iconic shower scene she insisted that we should watch something else because it was boring, she wanted to see something more recent but I managed to convince her to watch night of the living dead.
At first she was bored but after a while the atmosphere was truly starting to scare her, she was expecting a silly low budget movie with bad acting, and it does have a few moments like that, but once the second half starts you truly feel the tension between the characters and the feeling of isolation gets to you, and I think that's why it holds up so well, because the horror comes from the inevitability of the situation rather than the zombies themselves, practical effects can look really outdated if done with a low budget and even modern cgi will look bad in a few decades, but death slowly approaching and your only options to survive being lost due to your inability to get along with other people even in moments of crisis is a timeless kind of fear
Wish you`d done more than mentioned The Innocents mate. It`s the bomb
I love Night of the Living Dead but Barbara gets my vote for the most unlikable character in the history of film.
Peeping Tom and Psycho were not really horror movies.
One day, everyone will quit riding Hereditary's d like it's the best thing to ever happen to horror. It's got to be the most over hyped and over-rated movie of this decade.
What makes u think so
Everyone has different tastes and opinions in movies, nothing wrong with enjoying a movie
@radicalmallard No enjoying the movie is fine. Quoting it in every video essay as the gold standard of what a horror movie is the issue. Hell Midsommar is even better than Hereditary, and to your point, there also isn't anything wrong with disliking a movie. It just sucks to get beat over the head with its fans' admiration. Anytime you want to learn anything about horror.
@Masroor Ahmad its a suprise cult movie. Cult movies are becoming the new zombie boom. It has good moments and good build-up, but it shits the bed when she decides to dog paddle through the air. It has a great depiction of sorrow and what it's like to go through grief, but that doesn't give it a pass to be hailed in every freaking discussion of the horror subject. I have no problem with people liking the movie "I see why... But COME ON GUYS. It's constantly, and I mean constantly brought up and talked about. That's what overated means, people rating it higher than it should be. I see this movie as good even just ok. Cinematography is good, but shit thats not a rare item at this point. It has a great way of relating the characters emotion to you: "That's ari aster's greatest strength." But the characters aren't much more than lifetime movie characters with better acting. The music is great, but again, that isn't something that numerous other movies of greater caliber aren't offering.Thats my view on it ,that's the level of why I feel the movie rating is overhyped. Its substance, in my opinion, doesn't justify the amount of credit it gets for being "inflential...groundbreaking or whatever other buzzword you wanna throw on this thing.
@@Krillinjustchillin pretty much agree on ur take. Btw what are ur fav horror films (jst curious )
