How many squares do you need for a baby blanket?? Please

    • @crochetbits
      @crochetbits  4 месяца назад +1

One square is 10 cm approximately . The smallest blanket is 90x60 or by 70cm. About 60 ppc

I'm 6 strawberries deep in my project and let me tell you the instructions for the granny square are great I had no issue making 6 of them but then comes the leaves part. I almost cried and gave up on the entire project why tf is it so difficult to make tiny stupid leaves???? The instructions suddenly sounded super vague and confusing but that may have been my frustration influencing my perception of it. I've done one without a pattern and freestyled it (doesn't look great), I went on tiktok to find other instructions (all their strawberries are tiny so I have a medium strawberry with malnourished leaves) and here I am, desperate to add leaves to my lonely strawberries who shake in terror as they witness their comrades get picked one by one to suffer by my hand and end up with a green bald patch. I am desperate. Screaming crying begging for help. Will I lose sleep over my scared and scarred strawberries?? Possibly

Update!🍓 After many tiktoks about crochet strawberries and another RUclips tutorial for strawberry granny square, I have finally finished my little pink fruits. The other RUclips tutorial helped me a bit as it had pretty similar instructions to this one but clearer, but in the end it didn't matter because the result was still bad. Which left me with one solution : do it myself without a pattern (while learning from my mistakes with the first freestyled leaves).
What worked for me was to pull the green yearn in the first free loop of the top of the strawberry (by free I mean without a white double crochet on top of it). Then I chained one, put a single and maybe a half double in there, slip stitched in the same stitch then moved on to the next, sometimes by slip stitch sometimes by a single crochet. Then double crochet, one or two, maybe a half double, slip stitch in the same, move on. For the bigger leaves in the middle I put triple crochets in there, sometimes chained 1 or 2 or 3 after the triple and did the slip stitch down the chain thing (sometimes I did single crochet instead of slip stitch to make it bigger), and a slip stitch again in the same. Basically I alternated between double triple and half double here and there, judging by what I wanted the leaves to look like, I tried the "chain 5 then slip stitch down the chain" thing but it looked way too thin for my taste. Now I have irregular but fluffy leaves on top of all my strawberries!!
I wrote the instructions down so I wouldn't have to watch the video every time I made another square, I'll post them in another comment (as always if the original creator wants me to delete them I will so if you're looking for them but can't find the comment I may have deleted it)
Good luck to you all I hope your little strawberries turn out great!🍓🌟🩷

    🍓 Strawberry 🍓
[Use double yarn, two strands at the same time]
    Magic ring
    Chain 2
11 double crochet in the middle of the ring
    Pull to close the ring
Slip stitch in the first double crochet (I eyeballed it)
    Chain 1
1 single crochet in the same stitch (under the chain)
1 half double in the same stitch
3 double crochet in the next
    2 double in the next
2 half double in the next
2 half double in the next
3 half double crochet in the next
2 half double in the next
2 half double in the next
3 double crochet in the next
1 half double in the next
    1 single in the same
Slip stitch in the first single crochet (eyeballed it again)
    Chain 1
1 single crochet in the same (under chain)
    2 single in the next
    2 single in the next
    2 single in the next
1 single in the next 8 stitches
1 half double in the next 3 stitches
1 single in the next 8 stitches
    2 single in the next
    2 single in the next
1 single in the next (it should be the last available stitch but sometimes I already had reached the end by that point so I just put one single in the same as the previous ones, that way the next row will have the correct amount of stitches)
Slip stitch in the first single crochet (you guessed it)
Cut yarn and pull (I always do a chain 1 to secure the yarn before cutting)
"Invisible join" (pulling the yarn through a stitch on the other side, then again on the other side where it came from. I didn't find this part crucial so if you don't get it dont panic just move on)
    .
    .
⬜ Square around the strawberry 🍓
[everything that follows is supposed to be done in the back loop of the stitches]
Pull the new yarn through the middle of the 3 half double crochets of the point of the strawberry (back loop. Also, if you can, mark this third stitch when doing it but if you didn't and are not sure where it is, try to pick the most central one and rock with it)
    Chain 1
    3 single in same stitch
Chain 1 and skip the next 3 stitches
3 triple crochet (in the back loop of the fourth stitch from where you were since you skipped 3)
    Chain 2
    3 triple in the same
Chain 1 and skip next 2 stitches
3 half double in that third stitch
Chain 1 and and skip next 3 stitches
    3 double
    Chain 2
    3 double in same
Chain 1 and skip next 4 stitches
1 double in the next 2 stitches
    Chain 1 and skip 4
    3 double
    Chain 2
    3 double in same
    Chain 1 and skip 3
    3 half double
    Chain 1 and skip 2
    3 triple
    Chain 2
    3 triple in same
    Chain 1
Slip stitch in first single (eeeyyyeballed it)
Slip stitch in next 2 single crochets
Slip stitch in chain space (the gap)
    Chain 3
    3 double in same space
    Chain 1
    3 double in corner
    Chain 2
    3 double in same corner
    Chain 1
Same pattern for the rest until you reach the end : 3 dc in a space, if it's a corner chain 2, and before moving on to the next space you chain 1. 3 dc, chain 1, 3 dc.
Once you reach the final space and finish your 3 dc, chain 1 and slip stitch in top of beginning
Personally added a chain 1 before cutting and pulling the yarn
Invisible join again (I just hid the yarn away as I do with my other projects, do what works best for you)
Done!! Well almost because now starts the hardest part (surprising, I know) : the leaves 🌿
That part almost made me cry and throw me away the whole project (I had 6 strawberries done by that point). I can't write the instructions for that part as I couldn't follow them, I didn't understand and ended up with half the top of a strawberry. I made another comment about the leaves situation and replied with what worked for me (freestyle). There aren't too many comments so you should be available to find it easily if you want to! Good luck to all and may your strawberries turn out wonderfully ❤🍓
[I'll reply to this comment with a plain granny square pattern I use when making various projects, in case you want to make something checkered]

      🧓Granny square🌷
      .
      .
      Chain 4
Slip stitch in first loop of chain
      Chain 3
3 double in middle of chain (not a stitch)
      Chain 2
      4 double in middle
      Chain 2
      4 double in middle
      Chain 2
      4 double in middle
      Chain 2
Slip stitch in 3rd loop of beginning chain (I can never seem to find this bad boy so I just..... yes you said it I eyeball it)
      Chain 3
2 double in corner we're in / above
Double crochet in every stitch until next corner (I always count how many I can put in this section but also in the next one because there's always more space in the first line than the others, so usually 3 stitches for the first row, 7 for the next and 11 for the next. The other lines tend to make you work harder to make even the three, seven and eleven stitches fit, while the first tricks you by offering a fourth, eighth and twelfth stitch available. Don't be fooled)
      2 double in corner
      Chain 2
      2 double in corner
Double in every stitch until next corner
      2 double in corner
      Chain 2
      2 double in corner
      Etc until last corner
      2 double in last corner
      Chain 2
Slip stitch in top of beginning
      Repeat for the next rows
And here you go you can make checkered granny square projects (I did a car seat "mat" / "cover" by alternating strawberry granny squares and plain white ones, before joining all of them with pink yarn surrounding each squares and the whole rectangle. Looks very cute! Also recommend doing a seatbelt protection thing so it doesn't cut / burn / irritate your skin in summer, I did heart granny square and red granny square, joined the four of them and joined the final side around the seatbelt. It should look great with the strawberries too!)
