Railroading in beautiful mountain scenery, I love it. I'd love to photograph some freight trains on that line. Great video too, the Blackmagic is a very good camera, and you can't beat good Canon L glass. :-)
Your magic for opening doors always works! Amazing! :) I noticed two things: your train have single sound horn (no more donkey) and when you switch lights off when exiting tunnel there's no opposite light so exit is visible nice.

@@RailCowGirl He should have done what everyone does in Los Angele's subway and light rail systems, put his foot between the doors as it close to force the doors to open again and causes the doors to reopen and reset itself and delay the train.
It's a derailer, which is there to prevent parked trains on sidings from making its way onto the main track if they by accident should start rolling. The this derailer works by lifting the first axle up from the rail head, before the angled bar on top pushes the axle away from the main track, thus derailing the train and stopping it safely. When a parked train is cleared to leave the siding the entire device will flip over on its side and clearing the rail. You can read more about such devices here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derail
A little dark, tinted window? You are right about the flood. Was it just heavy rain or was it a late snow melt as well? Is there an oerational reason for the high beam headlights to illuminate the tunnel roof rather then the track? Seen on earlier commuter train vids on this line also. When trains cross at smaller stations with a central limited access platform on one side of the train, are the train doors of the later train remaining closed untill the earlier train departs?
Not tinted windows, and it was just as dark as it looks. This is early morning and the with a pretty thick layer of clouds. Welcome to the autumn on the west coast :p Hehe There is no reason for it, other than the tunnel roof being pretty low, and that the bottom part is pretty wet due to water being dragged in and fall off the train. So the ballast and tunnel wall gets darker and does not reflect that much light. We can block individual doors in each carriage on the train, and every stop has pre-determined blockage of doors. As long as we stop correctly, the right doors will be operational. Information on the monitors in the train will guide passengers to the right part of the train.
I haven't commented much lately. I just like to watch, with the train running on my 2nd 42" monitor as calming background, while I do my work on my 1st 42"monitor. But at the beginning of THIS trip, I watched in amazement as the train pulled out of the VOSS station going the wrong way...... not towards Bergen, as stated. BUT THEN, RCG switched ends of the consist to the OTHER engine ...... and proceeded to go in the correct direction ...... so all is well. Coffee time for my RCG mug (formerly HCG mug). Good morning.
@@RailCowGirl , yes indeed, hiding out, staying safe, wearing my mask when out, no gatherings, no parties, no groups, only grocery shop once every two weeks, then, when they first open, (first in, nearly first out), etc, etc. Not venturing about at ALL until I have The Vaccine. Those lines leading into the mountain are just the tracks they transport the generators on :) When they need to service a generator, it's transported there and the track gets connected. A switch point would just mean another switch needed to be put into the safety structure of the station etc etc etc. So it's simple to just move the track when needed. Behind the two gates are two generators that powers this section of the catenary :D
@@RailCowGirl Thank you for explaining :). It has always been a curiosity to me when you pass thru Dale! I love the Bergen line in general but my favorite parts are the sections between Voss and Arna and Myrdal and Flåm! Hypothetically speaking, if you would grant me one wish I would ask you to make a video of the Nordland line. Indeed, there are many good videos of the Nordland line available now on RUclips but they lack your attention to detail :).
Stanghelle - Vaksdal is my favourite part between Dale and Bergen and the stretch between Voss and Evanger :D I wish I could grant you that wish, because it would have been my wish as well. Sadly that line is no longer in our company as the whole passenger traffic system has been privatised by the current conservative government. They've split up the network in to 5 packages. North, West, South and two packages for East. Vy is running Franchise 3 (Bergen line), GoAhead is running Franchise 1 (South Line), and SJ is operating Franchise 2 (Dovre line, Nordland Line, Meråker Line, etc etc) If this was a good idea? No.... the whole New Public Management scheme does not work on closed systems... everything has become extremely rigid and no one is cooperating.
@@RailCowGirl I'm sorry to hear that. Curious decision by the Norwegian govt to go the way of privatization considering the flop it was for the British. On the other hand, as I understand, Norway being a member of the EEA is the govt obliged to adopt this new operating model because of EU regulations? If this is true, in a way it's like losing control of your own rail network :S. Hopefully some kind of exit clause will have been negotiated to soften the blow so to speak if this idea also turns out to be a.. flåp (mind my Norglish!).
Longest tunnel Oslo - Bergen is the Finse tunnel, 10.300m long, and is located on the mountain pass at Finse. The longest railway tunnel in Norway is 14.580m long and is located on the Gardermo Line between Oslo and Lillestrøm (north corridor). The new tunnel between Oslo and Sku (east corridor) will become the longest railway tunnel when it opens for operation... 19.000m long. The pneumatic brakes can be heard two times on the trip, but it's only used to checked to make sure it works. The main brake system on the train is electrodynamic. Which means that we produce energy when we brake.
I finally saw the deer RCG. I kept looking in the trees for the "Flock" of deer but finally saw them when I looked for a herd of deer on the ground !!! lol
@@RailCowGirl , yeah, ya know, this specialized plural wording drives me nuts. Why not just put an "s" on the end like we do for every inanimate object? Deers is a whole lot easier to remember than "a herd of deer"....... but, you would still need The Herd as in "RCG Herd". One example that bothers me though, who ever heard of a "murder" of crows? Who ever came up with that? And since the plural of mouse is mice, shouldn't the plural of moose be miice? There is no rhyme or reason to any of it. Just none. RCG, in NORWEGIAN, what is one deer called, and what is a group of several deer called?
@@aaronb7631 , I'm still confused. here's another one for you...... only yesterday did I learn that the "proper" plural of "brother" is "brethren", and for "sister" it's "sistren". No such "proper' words and "brothers" and "sisters". Yeah..... TRY to change me on that. I have brothers AND sisters. And further, I draw water from a "cistern" with a bucket on a rope. I'm done. ....... this thread is supposed to be about trains and "deers".
Some thing very creepy about walking through a bunch empty train cars, reminds me of that Steven King Langoliers movie. Oh and very nice camera and lens selection.
@@RailCowGirl Ya the least they could do would be to park the train close so you don't have to walk so far. Or at least provide a concierge service for you.
LOL! It's not far at all :) And walking the distance is no problem... as well as being good for our health. Imagine not walking at all. LOL! That would have been challenging for our health.. especially when you add the fact that we work crazy hours and have irregular sleep and eating patterns.

@@RailCowGirl He should have done what everyone does in Los Angele's subway and light rail systems, put his foot between the doors as it close to force the doors to open again and causes the doors to reopen and reset itself and delay the train.
@@Maxi3D In this case he never reached the train, but that behaviour you're talking about is very common on commuter trains in Oslo ;)
Congrats @railcowgirl on your 100K subscribers. You deserve it, lots of hard work!! Keep up all the great work and don't get discouraged.
Thank you so much! ❤️
28:59 Yes river is very high!
Indeed it is. :)
Great Video Again.
Glad you enjoyed it ❤️
I noticed the "balloons" on the overhead cable at 19:55 and wondered if that is for the benefit of low-flying aircraft or gliders?
all spans between valleys are required to have these as markers for helicopters or aeroplanes.
Thank you for showing us the cab Miss RCG. What is the device attached to the track at the 1:00 mark?
It's a derailer, which is there to prevent parked trains on sidings from making its way onto the main track if they by accident should start rolling. The this derailer works by lifting the first axle up from the rail head, before the angled bar on top pushes the axle away from the main track, thus derailing the train and stopping it safely. When a parked train is cleared to leave the siding the entire device will flip over on its side and clearing the rail. You can read more about such devices here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derail
@Bruce Mann what @MAB said :)
MAB Thank you.
Wonderful 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Så vackert!
Tack så mycket :D
A little dark, tinted window? You are right about the flood. Was it just heavy rain or was it a late snow melt as well?
Is there an oerational reason for the high beam headlights to illuminate the tunnel roof rather then the track? Seen on earlier commuter train vids on this line also.
When trains cross at smaller stations with a central limited access platform on one side of the train, are the train doors of the later train remaining closed untill the earlier train departs?
Not tinted windows, and it was just as dark as it looks. This is early morning and the with a pretty thick layer of clouds. Welcome to the autumn on the west coast :p Hehe
There is no reason for it, other than the tunnel roof being pretty low, and that the bottom part is pretty wet due to water being dragged in and fall off the train.
52:09 - Hahaha!!! Thank you for the giggles!
Hahaha! :D
RCG:::::::: @7:30, that snow on the far peaks...... is that remaining from last winter, or is it new from this "Fall"?
@Bruce B That snow is from last winter :)
@@RailCowGirl , Thank you. I thought too early for this "Fall".
So now I have to watch THIS vid a 4th time ........ since I can "probably" stay awake for the whole mesmerizing trip ....... 8-)
Thank you so much for watching!
Love it, Bruce :D I love it :D ❤️❤️❤️ I hope you're staying safe and healthy ❤️
@@RailCowGirl , yes indeed, hiding out, staying safe, wearing my mask when out, no gatherings, no parties, no groups, only grocery shop once every two weeks, then, when they first open, (first in, nearly first out), etc, etc. Not venturing about at ALL until I have The Vaccine. I am a Believer !! Usually I would drive my truck about 5,000 miles in 6 months. But this past 6 months due to CV19, it is less than 1,000. ( I now put preservative in the gasoline ~=! 8-) ). I have my R*C*G *** M*O*V*I*E*S and coffee !!!!... don't need much else. Truly. YOU stay safe Driver. YOU are a World Force !!!
Yeah! Going for another trip, what shall we see today...
Woohooo!! :D
Wow I love trains - where have you been all my life???? I am now subscribed and look forward to more videos and travels - I am speechless,,,,,
Welcome aboard! ❤️
Flerken crossing @ 37:11 :). Also those disused lines leading into the mountain @ 37:51, is that an abandoned facility of some kind?
Those lines leading into the mountain are just the tracks they transport the generators on :)
When they need to service a generator, it's transported there and the track gets connected.
Stanghelle - Vaksdal is my favourite part between Dale and Bergen and the stretch between Voss and Evanger :D
I wish I could grant you that wish, because it would have been my wish as well. Sadly that line is no longer in our company as the whole passenger traffic system has been privatised by the current conservative government. They've split up the network in to 5 packages. North, West, South and two packages for East.
Vy is running Franchise 3 (Bergen line), GoAhead is running Franchise 1 (South Line), and SJ is operating Franchise 2 (Dovre line, Nordland Line, Meråker Line, etc etc)
If this was a good idea? No.... the whole New Public Management scheme does not work on closed systems... everything has become extremely rigid and no one is cooperating.
1:10:00 Why do they string lights inside some tunnels and not others?
Nice video.
Thanks!
Very pleasant.
Why aren't air brakes audible?
What's the longest tunnel along this rout? In the entire system?
Thanks!
On 16:52 right of the track you can see 2 old rails for a few seconds. Is it part of old line?
Ooh, are the two rails there? or are those just tree trunks? I need to investigate :D
@@RailCowGirl I see it when the train are coming out of tunnel. 2 maybe 3 seconds. Just because you make the old line mark before tunnel.
What is that goblin-like thing on the Voss platform at 6:09?
It's a troll. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll
Amazing video! Like!
Thank you very much!
Hello from Colorado
Hello there :D
I finally saw the deer RCG. I kept looking in the trees for the "Flock" of deer but finally saw them when I looked for a herd of deer on the ground !!! lol
LOL! Thanks will remember that it is not a flock, but a herd for next time ;) hehehehe
@@bruceb3786 Same with moose to meese, like goose and geese. English is confusing. LOL
Now that it's fall, you can imagine how this feel when it's really foggy and dead quiet outside :D
Coulda been worse. Could've been the midnight meat train.
Excellent ... That was a great trip now I'm relaxed ! :) Time to go to bed zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :):):)
Glad you enjoyed it 😃😃😃😃❤️
