  • #AussieAquatic #CO2 Pressurized CO2 makes Aquarium Plants grow really thick and fast, so I stopped using it when my Aquarium was Full of Java ferns, but I still want the water Nitrate levels to drop even lower, so with Seachem de*nitrate filter media AND restarting my Pressurized CO2 system, they should work even better together at lowering the NO3 in this tank.

Good point about gassing your fish as this happened to me when I first started using CO2 in my planted Cichlid tank. Remember it also lowers the PH. Luckily I saw what was happening, but not before I killed a couple of beautiful Cichlids. Now I have a PH meter permanently in my tank and I watch the PH levels when I use CO2. When it goes down to 7PH I turn off the CO2.
I did check the PH when I gassed them and it was 5.6 - ops! Very quick water change and moving the remaining fish to my grow-in tank saved the day.
I never thought that it could maybe lower Nitrates

The nitrate lowering is really just from turbo charging the rate of plant growth, and yes, the gassing is from personal experience. It's tragic if not monitored closely!!

How long will your bottle last? I have a regulator for a Bossweld disposable cylinder. I am reliably informed that one of those should last around 9 months. I have never played with co2 but intend to give it a go in the future.

@@Gilsfishroom I've used this system on and off for over 8 years, with great results, each bottle lasts me on average 3 months, with 8 hours use per day.

Thanks for referring your followers to my video. I believe my success with low nitrates is also attributable to not having bottom substrate. Substrate is a dirt "magnet" and fish feces are 40% protein matter (dry weight). My filters remove these feces so I can remove them from the system by rinsing the media. Are you on FB Messenger? We can trade discussions, updates and photos/videos?

My swords have to be trimmed by 1/3 every couple weeks or so. They replace the leaves very, very fast in a couple of weeks. This rapid production of plant biomass explains why my nitrates are nearly zero and why I have to now add nitrogen' otherwise the start to have brown leaves

Thanks for subscribing to my channel mate! I just found you this way, I tried this a couple of years ago to save some money my self but found it turned out more costly, I don't know if I was unlucky but I found there wasn't much C02 in those bottles and they didn't last very long, it will be interesting to see how it goes for you, I found it much easier to swap and go the home brew shop bottles now, costs a bit more initially but better in the long run, but like I said I could of been unlucky back when I tried I was only able to get them from the big retailers and found they seemed pretty light for what I paid, let us know if it goes well Subbed 🙂

There's no question that pressurized CO2 turbo-charges plant growth and density, but finding a reasonably priced system is the big obstacle. In my case I don't run a fish room, this is only one 140 litre tank and manually dosing, I get around 3 months for $19 so that is OK for me. The Keg King home brew bottles are always an option not to forget.
The RUclips channel thing is getting more and more interesting with a bit of an Aussie club forming :)

Try to Aqua Medic solenoid valve, It’s $150 AUD and is definitely a good quality solenoid. You install it below the bubble counter with a check valve inbetween the two. Don’t risk it getting a cheap one because they can get stuck open and gas your fish. Also it’s best to have the co2 come on an hour before the lights turn on so they can start up taking the co2 straight away and an hour before the lights go off so let the co2 levels come back down to a normal level.

Hi Abdul, you can put 1 teaspoon per gal, one time and keep the temperature at 30C for 3 days, then do 30% water change and lower temperature again.
      Repeat after 1 week.
