- I know a lot of people out there have been looking for the "real" version of this tune and not a recording of some small band plodding along to the tune at funeral speed. So here's the version heard in "Rudy", a.k.a. the version that the ND marching band plays at home games. Jigging along with your friends is optional, but definitely recommended. GO IRISH!

A terrific piece of music and very inspiring. I play it every morning when I get out of bed. It is almost like needing a fix but the tune does wonders for my spirit. I could listen to it for hours and often do, playing it over and over.....and, again, this is Fred, not Linda.
At Church for Veterans Day, we wanted to honor all our military veterans. We asked them walk to the front so we could recognize and pray for them. When they each stood to walk forward, we played this great marching song. To my amazement the congregation started clapping to the drumbeat as they went forward. It brought some wonderful smiles of appreciation to all our vets!

Song is for champions we used to play this tailgating at 49ers games in 1989 which is the best team ever. Watching montana and rice live was like watching babe ruth and lou gerig the best of the best on 1 field.

Thank you so much for playing one of my favorite NOTRE DAME fight song. Interestingly, this song is played very slowly throughout the famous John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara movie, "The Quiet Man". The music is played more up tempo during the great fight scene between John Wayne and Victor McGlaucklin.
I am a die hard Michigan fan till the day I die. But this song gives me goosebumps. I love ND. I don't root for the Irish, but ND is college football. Getting into ND stadium on a fall Saturday afternoon is #1 on my bucket list with a bullet.
Just did it this year, it was awesome, humbling, fun, surreal. Definitely worth it.

@dfloodhive..it's a fairly new tune to Notre Dame. By new, I mean within the past 10 years. It was written by the current conductor, Ken Dye and it's called "The Celtic Chant". One of my favorites. My son was in the band in 2003 and it will be a year I will never forget.
@jpsartrean the Imperial march is used on big plays, in conjunction with shouting "Kill" repeatedly, while doing somewhat of a overhand stabbing motion, typically led by the student section

Does Notre Dame still play the Imperial March (Star Wars) during games? I always thought that this was a much better/inspiring tune - they should play it regularly.

@goblue122394 oh I will, but what kind of example is Denard Robinson is setting for todays kindergartner. They are going to say," look mommy the heisman winner dosen't tie his shoes, why should we?" But in all seriousness that was a hell of a game between two evenly matched teams and Michigan (MEATCHICKEN) was the better team that day. And that is all that counts. NEXT TIME! (SHAKES FIST IN THE AIR)
"Frankly Speaking", just an FYI, we're not all Catholics here in South Bend, and we still love the Irish. In fact, being Catholic should probably have nothing to do with your judgement of the football program or University, unless of course you go to Mass and listen to the game on your portable radio. Case in point, in 2009 President Barack Obama, who last time I checked was not Catholic, delivered the commencement address much to the chagrin of some "staunch" Catholics who came from out of state (primarily Texas, imagine that) to South Bend to set up protests only to be kicked off campus.
I'd venture to say that within the football team itself, based on racial diversity, there is probably a strong majority of non-catholics. Not that anyone should have a problem with that, nor is there any implication of inferiority based on religious affiliation. However, if you're interested in a team that is made up of a single-minded group of kids in terms of religious affiliation, my recommendation would be to look at BYU and send your support their way.
Actually, as a practicing Roman Catholic, Of course I'm going to support institutions of higher learning that are in fact nurtured under the guidance of Holy Father, leader of our faith, The Vicar of Rome and the Leader of the Holy See.. Mind you again The University of Notre Dame is a Roman Catholic University regardless of the political views of someone who gives commencement addresses. If I choose to chant Here Come The Catholics! or waive a Vatican City flag at a ND game..Thats my choice..
+Tyler Iams I know exactly what you are talking about. I am a protestant pastor in Northern Indiana and have a lot of ND fans in my church. It would be the same in Utah for those who are fans of BYU, yet are not mormon.

What is this adulterated crap? I play Rakes of Mallow on bagpipes and sounds nothing like this.
