I like how they purposefully made the video blurry so that Opera users can switch the lucid mode on and it makes it high quality.
So amazing
I like how this dumb sharpening+color boost/saturation filter looks awfully, even on this video they made blurry purposefully for the user to try it...
the funny thing about this to me is that i've never met a person in my life that thinks low qualilty is less funny
but anyways thank you opera for making this i love it!
I know right. Corporate ads are so unrelateable in my opinion.
@@vezenik6059 lol yeah at least there uhm the hearts not purple is a term i like to use
At first I thought it was a stupid marketing gimmick but after using it for over a week on RUclips I feel robbed by creators when I have it off. The visual clarity is a game changer.
robbed ? omg

Please add the ability to disable Lucid Mode.
It is annoying that every time I touch a video, a popup appears and when I scroll further, a weird line stays on the screen all the time.
thanks for the feedback. We will look at how to tune it and provide some more settings to toggle the button on/off.
@@Opera Thanks.
Hopefully this will be remedied soon.
@@Opera how can you make a new feature without letting the users to disable it ??
@@tonymax13 there is an option settings -> lucid mode -> 'Show button on videos'
@@zoljah i have it activated but i don't see it, it seems lucid don't activate too, i don't know why but that's i wanted ^^
I don't really like it, looks weird but I guess it's better to have something to use than not having anything.
Edit:
After a week of testing I can say that it works best when the video is a little blurry and desaturated.
When the video is already sharp or has a high amount of contrast it starts to introduce more noise and some details like small text becomes unreadable.
It would be nice to also have a less aggressive version of this video sharpener tool.
Yeah, it's great, but it falls off heavily when watching an already well produced video with clear and sharp fonts. Makes text look a lot worse right now.
like candy its not meant for every occasion. use when necessary.
I think it was made for old videos like what that old ancient man was showing his cousin.
If the video is already well produced with clear and sharp fonts, why would you want to turn it on in the first place? That's like trying to paint a house that's already painted.@@minimushrom
Omg, Opera never dissapoint me)) Thnx!!!
Hey just try out the features, wow the videos from early years of RUclips until early 2010s looks good with lucid mode. Thanks Opera!
The problem with this Lucid Mode feature is that there doesn't seem to be a way to "adjust" the sharpness like all other sharpening filters have.
I find that it way over sharpens RUclips videos to the point of a herring bone affect that is common when over sharpening is happening.
I can reproduce this exact same thing with an image in GIMP by over sharpening.
There needs to be a slider so people can adjust the sharpness from very little to the max that is already there.
This On or Off is not good.
I just turn it off because of the garbage in any image/video being enhanced.
Please add an adjustment or if there is one already there, please make is widely known.
I think that lucid mode for videos at least should probably be hidden when hardware acceleration is off, it gives a negative first impression when the framerate suddenly drops.
Hi! Thanks for the suggestion. We are working on refinements now and will consider this.
@@Opera I would like to second @Explicious because I too use software acceleration (for my own reasons, as i have had compatibility issues with Discord streaming, and if you have hardware acceleration disabled, lucid mode tanks my FPS down to like 15.
I downloaded Opera last year and I haven't looked back. Much better browser and I love the sidebar and different workspaces.
Low image quality on old videos has never bothered me but the framedrops with lucid mode bothers me a lot
This is actually great. Generally, I'm not a fan of too many features in a browser, but I can get behind this.
Just beautiful
The guy that introduces Lucid appeared in Grammarly ads.
Thank you opera,
Noticeable clearer video with this turned on after using it for a day on youtube, I can't use really high quality because of my internet so this actually was a pretty nice improvement. I don't track development of Opera so it was a nice surprise, good work! Personally I don't mind the dropdown feature but is there an option to turn the dropdown off/on while keeping the app itself running?
Opera and Opera GX are the best browsers
I hope u will develop the new voice assistant for Opera too :)
It will be fantastic 🤩👍👍
Enabling this feature does just add sharpening to anything but it also grinds the video down to like 15fps so...
Hey. That shouldn't happen! Can you let us know what your OS and hardware is?
@@Opera windows 10 on a high end Ryzen 9 cpu and 3080 gpu, shouldn’t be a hardware issue. Does it require “hardware acceleration” to be turned on perhaps?
I have this exact issue.
Intel core i7-8700
RTX 2080 Super.
Hardware shouldn't be an issue and there's plenty of resources left for Opera to use.
In fact, Opera doesn't seem to use any more resources than normal, when I enable Lucid mode.
@emes I had a 660ti and 3900K the last time I posted something 6 years ago if that makes you feel any better buddy.
Best actors ever
maybe make the button appear only when the content is below 1080p
Thanks for the suggestion! In our testing we found it useful also for quite high definition videos, but we will consider it!
OMG, my old CRT TV had a sharpness button that did the same!
This is so cool!
the button keep shows up on the top of the screen when video gets buffer. but if you are on fullscreen mode, it doesnt.
Will this be added to Opera GX also?
☹
Stay tuned. GX is getting a custom version soon!
gx has its own "ray tracing" technology, lol: RGX
Hey step cousin, what are you doing?!
its good, and quite a difference especially when watching low quality videos
looks cool, but there is an issue - a white border appears around the top of the video when i enable it. its very distracting, tho if u fix that it'd be great
Hi! Thanks for the feedback! Can you let us know a specific video you see this on and what OS+hardware your using? thanks!
@@Opera
Windows 10, Opera browser (not GX), appears on all videos,
my GPU is NVidia GTX 1660 Super,
my CPU is Intel Core i5-10400F
it makes it look like vhs where things were sharpened so much in order for it to look more high quality
Can't find this on Opera Developer Mode version 95.0.4632.0 😕
And here I thought "Developer Mode" was suppose to have new features enabled and tested first. 👀👀
I have the same problem 😭
Amazing feature, tried it today on a 240p video
How can you hide this button for all users in background video on websites I manage. I can't figure out how to target the button to hide it.
Honestly I prefer Opera than Chrome because it doesn't make my PC hot during long and heavy use of the browser. Plus it has a built-in VPN.. And I love the Speed Dials format on the homescreen.
It actually works fairly well, but it can sometimes be a bit too much.
I wish they would add a slider to the strength of the filter. It also has this weird light edge around the video. Doesn't matter much, but i wish it wasn't there.
Because of the above, I don't think i will be using Lucid very often, but It´s an appreciated feature.
Yes i would not use it for typical videos (maybe to enhance a still tho) but at some specific footage like long range zoomed it does really help me to see details depending on lightning conditions (sometimes its just way too much as u said).
@@zoljah yeah it works. But the filter is kinds much. I just wish it wasn't so strong.
Marry Christmas btw
How about adding frame rate interpolation feature up to 60 fps? That would make Opera everyone's favorite
I love it!
I disable lucid mode as the icon annoy me and it does absolutely nothing... It even show a split screen demo to show how fantastic it is and the 2 half`s is 100% identical on my 55" TV I use as computer monitor at 1,2m viewing distance...
Tested it out on Numa Numa Guy and I can confirm it didn't change the quality at all.
Please make the button available when Fullscreen, thanks!
what is the link to SW Kid 3.0 video? can't find it 😞
please share
Gostei! Ficou bom demais!
The narrators voice and intonation, sound very much like Jon Tron
The showing your "cousin" a video on your laptop setup is waaaaaaay too familiar for my liking.
It works fine. Its just basic video sharpening but with the convenience of a simple button on your browser. RUclips should offer something similar in the future.
It looks like opera did made their videos little bit blurrier (when compared to brave) but lucid mode is definitely cool, using it makes all videos look better than any other browser
Hi. Happy you like it! Just note that we have not made any changes to videos when you are not using Lucid Mode
@@Opera you did changed it, I see the difference
@@Opera i can see the changes im not and idiot
fascinating. anyway, how can i disable it from popping up? :D
Yo that's actually crazy. I tried this on another 1080p video and you can see such a huge difference, unless opera just puts a slightly blurry filter on videos when it's actually off...
Hi - Great you like it! And of course, we do not make videos blurry when Lucid Mode is off
imagine that afro-ninja guy from the original, was the host of this commercial... it's what the world needs
i havent watched this video but it loos weird af idk what you guys are up to but you should be fixing the force dark pages cause i want soundcloud dark mode but it isnt working thx
Hey opera team, can you please make this work on video offline video (videosa that I saved on my pc)?
Can't wait to watch "Edgar se cae" in full Ultra HD 8k nano-led resolution. All my latino brothers will be thrilled.
After using the lucid mode , my quality decreased even more . 8K video was like 480P. I could clearly see the pixels.
1) Спасибо разработчикам за Оперу, она хороша, но
2) почему после каждого обновления Опера открепляется от панели задач?
Una vez que pruebas Opera es imposible volver a usar otros navegadores, tiene muy buenas funciones.
Awesome! Yet another feature I have to learn how to disable - thanks Opera!
Glad we can deliver then. It’s in advanced settings >> lucid mode
good guys lucid mode is aperitiable!!
I love this feature! not gonna misuse it though!
why not :3
@@sharanpaulsinku9866 because it looks trash and worthless in normal videos :)
incredible, i tried to watch a video on opera and i saw that, how do i get it in chrome?
Maybe a little bit to sharp, but looks good
How is Opera free ? You do not show ads so how do you keep the development going ? Just curious.
Thank you!
Great browser, but the ads are back on RUclips and I can't get ride of them in the settings as it was possible before! The BRAVE browser is a good alternative! I use both.
Videos weren't blurry before this update, now they are until I turn it on and it just skyrockets the sharpness of the video to the moon. It's absolutely horrible. If it wasn't for the speed dial I wouldn't use this horrible browser.
Hi. This is wrong. We made no changes to how videos or images are shown when lucid mode is off.
@@Opera Lies, there is a constant blurry filter on until Lucid mode is turned on. 4k videos are blurry until I turn your sharpness filter on and then they look even worse. After nearly 10 years of using Opera I'll be changing browsers.
It is not possible to switch on/off in full screen mode.
The Mode is nice. But pls make on option that you can disable the toggle on/off button as an overlay. Pretty annoying after some time. For now i blocked it via filter. If i want to toggle lucid mode on, i go into my settings, but every time / every video watching this button to appear and disappear is just... u know...
i use opera gx btw.
Thank you for the feedback - Great to hear you like it! We will add more configuration options soon!
@@Opera I think it's great that you also respond to critical feedback. I've been using Opera GX for a while and have always been very satisfied. Hope you all have a peaceful Christmas season and wish you a Happy New Year. Treat yourself to a few days of rest.
Get Adblock Plus and add ###detach-button-host as a custom filter, it will remove the popup.
@@BongoTheClown thanks but read my comment again^^
@@EV3NT830 yes? I posted it perhaps not for your sake but for others who go looking for an answer, and is annoyed that you said you got rid of it, but not how.
I literally used Lucid Mode with the exact video they're showing here and it looks nothing like it lmao
hold up did they re-record the video and lied that it's the original classic video?
ok. Now how do I remove the lucid mode button from hovering every video and keep it turned off?
In Opera settings?
@vonhartge4335 there's only to activate or deactivate the feature for images (which looks very ugly) and for video (which doesn't seem to make much of a difference). The option for video lucid mode found in settings does the same thing as the lucid mode button hovering the videos.
Now if they made this for the TV ...
Most TVs already have this built in. It's called the Sharpness control.
Also, there's HDR and depending on the model of TV, a lot of other individual controls to tightly control the produced image/video.
Sadly, this "Lucid" thing is either on or off. There's no personalization controls.
Hopefully, the Devs will realize this and add some controls for sharpness and other elements so each person could personalize it.
In fact, it would be easy enough to also add a way to save different profiles of personal settings.
Go big or go home, I say.
can I use Lucid Mode for iPhone or iPad?
Excelente opción. Me encanta
I expected some CSI-tier "enhance those 3 pixels into a full HD image" magic, but I guess this works well enough :) Thumbs up. 👍
so will it work on those videos?
@@sharanpaulsinku9866 it may improve quality but can also reduce quality, it depends on source compression, lightning and other things
Disagree
To be completely happy, I still lack a mode that smoothes the movement in old movies and a mode that eliminates shaking in handheld movies. Also add a flag that improves the visibility of fonts as it is in Microsoft Edge.
does this also work in those videos??, you know :3
can you change the name? i have not even smoked pot since that feature but still when i read "lucid mode on" im uncertain wether or not im trapped in a dream. realy try to remember not to go on youtube if i ever be high. feature is good. name lil unsettling tho. thanks for your consideration
bro looks like the awooga awooga meme irl 💀💀💀
If you had low internet connection and only can use below 480p resolution, this mode is for you. it totally use full
Is it by default lucid mode is turned on? I don't seem to find the settings.
Hey! You might need to upgrade to the latest version first. By default you will get a button hovering the videos you watch, next to video pop-out. There is also a global setting to enable Lucid Mode for video and images.
good feature. from which verion it will be avaible
v93. Update today and you will get it!
@@Opera Yes I updated and got it. The feature is beyond my expection, the sharpness level, color correction is best.😍
i dont think I'll use it, BUT I looooove opera browser, so yeah, good shot!
erm
how do i say this
i dont have lucid node i only found rgx
is that the same thing?
Hi. Yes, it’s named RGX in Opera GX
@@Opera oh okay
Im wondering if this feature will be added to opera gx
Hi. Yes. It’s available as “RGX mode” in the latest version
Lucid mode does not play ball with some of my extensions -- or perhaps the fact I use software acceleration - resulting in just lots and lots of lag. I feel like it's one of these features nobody really asked for, but for those it works for, I hope you find use for it. It appears to apply tons of sharpening and boosts contrast and saturation slightly.
They should limit this option to hardware acceleration as it is using the gpu. If you use software acceleration this will certainly take you back to the 90s
У меня ощущение, что качество видео стало хуже. Резкость в FullHD хуже стала. Я в начале думал, что настройки сбились на 720 или 478.
The button design is really not good. The button is huge, the colors are unnecessary, and why does it need both text and an icon? The button pops into the video window randomly every few seconds even when the mouse is not moving/hovering over the video window, which is very distracting. Please, please, please - make it possible to remove this thing completely via flags or something. New features are great but long-time users want to have control over whether they want to use them or not, especially if they intrude into website content like this.
Thank you for the detailed feedback! We will look into how to optimize it further and whether to give some more options.
i have opera but i dont see lucid mode
working well
does it work for the OperaGX one?
Yes. We chose to name it RGX for GX
@@Opera ok
Dear Opera, we beg you. Please make it possible to make changes to the design of site bookmarks, for example, using "night tab". With a huge number of folders and porridge from sites inside them, it's very hard to work with your favorite browser😫😭🙏🙏🙏
I like it except when it comes to reading text onscreen, then it gets pixelated and ugly and in some instances difficult to read.
What are you showing, step bro?
Not really for me. On most videos it looks like someone encoded a video without knowing how to properly setup a sharpening filter. It produces alot of grain and noticable double contours on edges. To make it look good, you would need to finetune the settings depending on each individual video.
But like the video suggests, the feature may be useful for people, who are used to HD graphics since they were born and may have issues watching old blurry LQ footage.
Please remove the hovering button, I already know it’s on and intend to keep it that way..
Best !!
I’m trying to enable lucid mode on my iPhone 📲 but I can’t seem to do it
Hi. Currently it’s supported for PC and Mac only
please give me the option to make the pop up disappear forever, it's so extremely annoying, why would you do this without the option to make it go away
you can disable it @ settings -> lucid mode -> show button on videos
@@zoljah THANK YOU
I like and I use it.
'So blurry, it's like giving me anxiety'
This is so zoomer-like, bingo 🤣
Where is the option in Opera GX?
It’s named RGX in GX. Upgrade to latest version and you will find it
Really good. Like it.
I'm sure we can read somewhere : "By using Lucid Mode, you agree : 1) to give all your datas and all you do with your computer to Opera Software. 2) to give us all right to sell or give freely this datas to all our partners" ........
By the way, how can you make a video less blurry ??? I mean, except if we increase the resolution, I don't see how... and i made this "improvements"' directly from the menu of my monitor, so it's pointless for me. Maybe it's better only on old laptops.
I hate new useless things from Opera more and more... I want a "Opera Light version" so much on PC.
it is a css filter using your gpu to enhance the video quality - it will actually make your computer draw more power for the extra calculations but for me its worth for some streams/clips, it does not improve all sources tho and may even reduce quality for some content (depending on compression/lightning/other); i do appreciate it
Interesting innovation, but I'll admit I definitely still prefer it off. When I tried it out, it felt like the glare is turned up. I doubt it is actually glare setting you use, but I'm guessing Chromatic Abherration is.
If so, that explains it.
я вот только не до конца понял как они это сделали. Видимо у нвидии подсмотрело ее фишки.
